    He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". It was written simply and you can jump from chapter to chapter to review anything as needed.

    The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

      Thanks for asking! Any dogs can be trained on the system. However, it's important to mention that some dogs may take a little longer to understand and recognize their new boundaries, while others may take to it right away. Every dog is different, but patience is key!

    I'm not using this as a replacement for a fence. I'm using this for an area that is simply can't be fenced. My backyard is fenced on 3 sides but the rear side is up against a bayou that is increasingly drying up and allowing the dog to swim/walk around the fencing when the mud bottom becomes exposed.

      @@jimnummerdor9687 I’m still figuring the unit settings out but that’s what I’ve read as well. I haven’t used the collar much so far. I liberally used yellow marking flags and trained him (on long 15 foot lead) to avoid them with verbal commands and reward him with praise. It took about 30 minutes for him to associate the flags as a barrier…..so much to the point that I accidentally dropped the leash and he never left the boundary. I’m going make sure he understands the yellow flags = boundary concept a couple more times and then transition to the collar. BTW he can clearly recognize the yellow flags MUCH better than the original white ones (which were left over on the property). It’s important he knows the boundaries because where I live a lost animal might as well be a dead one.

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  3 роки тому

      Thank you for this question, Tiffani! If your dog is responding reliably on the level the collar is at, we would not recommend increasing it. We would only ever recommend increasing the level of the collar if your dog completely disregards it.
      It is important to mention that the only fencing collar that has vibration is the stubborn dog collar. If you have any other model of collar, it does not have vibration, but instead has a tone only mode, and then varying levels of static correction.

    What do you do or how do you get your dog to the containment area, if your dog wants to go inside and won't budge toward the containment area? I'm trying to start day 1 of training, right now it is difficult to get him to walk outside. Would different times of the day be a good idea?

    • @petsafebrand

      Thank you for your question! If your dog doesn't currently have any interest being in the yard, then it would be beneficial to try different times of the day when he is more excited to be outside. It can also help to engage with a little bit of play in the yard or work on some basic commands to help engage his brain prior to beginning your training.

      Thank you for this question. In the first phase of training, with full control of your pet on a leash, walk to the flags. As your pet enters the Static Correction Zone, the Receiver Collar will begin to beep. Allow your pet to stay in the Static Correction Zone for up to 2 seconds then gently help him back into the Pet Area. Immediately praise and offer your pet a treat as he enters the Pet Area, even if you have helped with the leash. I'm a bit frustrated. I spent several hours moving the transmitter around the house trying to find the best location and power setting. The best place is basically right in front of our patio door.
    The biggest issue is we're not getting a decent circle on our property. There's a 20ft wide "hole" in the wireless perimeter right at our boulevard that would allow our pet to completely cross the street. I turn down the power, but then he can barely move about our backyard.
    There must be interference somewhere in our neighborhood causing issues in the wireless perimeter.
    Our property is pretty narrow, which also doesn't help.
    I'll have to check if I can return the product after cutting to collar, per the instructions.

      Thank you for your question! While the system can often work with a metal roof, there are also instances where the metal roof can cause interference issues. The best way to determine if the system will be suitable for use with a home with a metal roof is to set it up and see if it responds at the appropriate distance on a consistent basis.

    Is there a way to turn up the sound on the collar? It isn’t loud enough

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for this question, Tammy. Our containment collars do not have any volume adjustment options. The tone used with most of our products is on a high pitched frequency that is really meant more for the dogs to hear than us. Many adults are unable to hear it at all which is normal. This is why we include the test light tool so that you can see a visual representation of where the collar begins to react so that you can set up your flags. It is perfectly normal for it to sound faint to human ears but do not worry, the pet will definitely be able to hear it.
      Now, that being said, it is important to remember that the tone is not an uncomfortable sound for the dogs. You will not always see a strong reaction to the tone from them in the beginning. You must teach them what it means by following the training guide included in your original manual. Should you need any product assistance, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-732-2677.

    We have one of the pet safe underground fence installed. I trained our dog on it for about 2 and half weeks. I have a 90 pound Boxer. Right now the correction level is set to 3. Today I was inside the house, but a lady told me our dog went after her and her dog this morning, but then he eventually returned to the safe area without harming anyone. My question if my dog is around 90 pounds would you recommend going to correction level 4?

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you for this question! It is critical to mention that response to static correction is not related in any way to weight or breed; we do apologize for any misunderstanding. As each dog is an individual, their response to the static is wholly dependent on their personality. If your dog is disregarding the correction on 3 when there are distractions, we would recommend increasing the correction level to 4, and going back to the stage of training where you work with your dog while there are distractions on the other side of the boundary. We would recommend working on this training with your dog until he has fully mastered it and turns back toward you consistently even when there are enticing distractions outside of the boundary.

      @petsafebrand  Рік тому

If you have difficulty locating this information, please get in touch with our Customer Care team directly; we'll be more than happy to help!
      It is important to mention, too, that it is normal for dogs to have no reaction to the beep initially. This is why these first training steps without the static are critical- through repeated positive reinforcement for turning around at the sound of the beep, they learn how to react when the beep occurs. Some dogs will learn this quite quickly, while others will take many training sessions. We would not recommend moving on to static until your dog has a solid understanding of how to react to the beep.

      My 40lb dog was very stubborn after having roamed our 1.5 acre yard for a long time without electric containment. During the training and off she would dart through the boundary, and then be afraid to come back into the yard knowing she would get zapped again. When this started, she placed immediately to her kennel for a time out. We purchased additional flags so that the boundary was more visible and then walked her around the yard on a leash several times a day and using treats. Finally, she got it in her head that this was her new boundary markers and learned the new layout of the yard without flags. I think initially we took the flags down to early and she was too tempted by things(cats and other dogs) on the other side.
      I also feel that after you take the flanges down, you need to go into the yard with your pet to show them that the new area is safe to walk around in just not the edges.
      Consistency was the key.

      They should be trained with just the tone for the first four days. Consistently going out with them on the leash and giving them treats after they hear the tone and turn around (when they reach the flag and you hear the tone turn them back towards the house and praise them and give them a treat. ) 10 minutes a couple times a day. even after they associate the tone with the flag you have to be out there with them for the first two weeks. It's labor intensive but well worth it. If they do that consistently and start charging the fence, you might need to adjust the shock to a higher level. If you have a long haired breed (I have a collie) you need longer prongs on the collar to get through the hair. Good Luck!

    • @petsafebrand
      @petsafebrand  8 місяців тому +1

      This is a great question, Rick! Since the beep is designed to be at a level that's best for our dogs to hear, this does mean it is quite high pitched and faint. This does unfortunately mean that many customers may not be able to hear this tone. We're so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
      For this reason, we do recommend setting your flags using the test light tool and the collar; this way you can be sure if your dog is at the flags, she is hearing the tone. It is normal for dogs not to respond to the tone at first as they have no association with it- rewarding her for turning back toward you when you know that she is hearing the tone will help to build that association over several training sessions.

    we have the petsafe Smart Dog Trainer collar for our dog (300-yard wireless leash) the link is here www.menards.com/main/pet-wildlife/dog-supplies/dog-training-behavior/petsafe-reg-300-yard-lite-remote-trainer/pdt00-16024/p-1528352993188-c-8311.htm.
    We are looking into this underground fence just to keep her in the yard and away from our chickens (we live in a spot where a lot of people live and she wants hugs and kisses from everyone). she is already trained on the collar, makes the same noise. (our friend has one for her dog) we put our dog on it and the tone is enough for our dog to stay away. She was a hand full when we started, she is a year old redbone who likes to run. Hond dogs are runners and we are pleased with the wireless /leash/collar, the fence would be nice also so when we're in the yard she can be with us and me not having to fumble for the remote when gardening or tending to other things. it would look way better than a fence that will just rust out or rot out. These are such a great idea.

    Good information, but I feel they shouldn’t use a dog that pulls on the leash for their demonstration. I think it negatively affects the image they want to portray and I found it distracting. It had me questioning her knowledge and authority on working with dogs because she couldn’t even teach her own dog to respect the leash.
