    • @prettiestleogurl30
      @prettiestleogurl30 10 років тому

      You can use fondant but it will take longer to set up. Maybe 2-3 days ahead of time is best to leave it out. Gumpaste will set up in bout 12 hours or less depending on thickness, how much tylose used etc.

    Going to attempt this tomorrow. Can I just confirm that fondant with Tylose will not hold? If so, I am going to try Sainsburys flower paste as I'm on a budget!

    • @CakesbyLynz
      @CakesbyLynz  8 років тому

      +Katie Hardy Hi Katie, I haven't actually tried this with tylose added to fondant. The flower paste should be absolutely fine. I have used the Sainsbury's version in the past and from my experience it is a little softer and takes a little longer to harden than the Squires flower paste I used i this video, but it will work the same. I hope this helps.

    • @tulipmae9737
      @tulipmae9737 8 років тому

      +CakesbyLynz Can I say a massive thankyou for your advice. I used the sainsburys flowerpaste and it worked great. I made sure they hardened for 4 days and assembled night before. Another useful decoration for celebration cakes x

    When letting the bows dry, do you leave them out in room temp or put on fridge? Does a fondant cake ever go in the fridge?

    • @CakesbyLynz
      @CakesbyLynz  10 років тому +1

      Hi Christina, I'm really glad you like the cake. If you are using gumpaste you will need to use glue, because as it dries the water will not hold it together . I hope this helps.

    This is lovely.. What make of gum paste did you use? Also the letters and number you made.. which cutters do 6ou use? I have some but I find it difficult to get the icing out to create a neat letter

    • @CakesbyLynz
      @CakesbyLynz  7 років тому

      Hi Laura, The gumpaste that I used was by Squires. Also the cutters for the letters on the finished cake were the Windsor Clickstic block letters, they come in upper case and lower case. I hope this helps.

    Hello again...I did in fact make this cake and it came out beautiful. I prepared my bow loops 5 days in advance and they had dried nicely. The next morning the bow had flattened and the curly cues drooped and some broke. Any advice would be appreciated.

    • @BethanyFaithXO
      @BethanyFaithXO 9 років тому

      Did you happen to assemble to bow on the cake and refrigerate it and the drooping possibly happen after the cake was taken back out of the refrigerator? If that is the case, I would assume that the reason for this was the drastic temperature change would cause the gumpaste to condensate and soften the gumpaste. If that was not the situation, I would suggest adding tylose powder to your gumpaste as an extra drying agent. I've been working with fondant and gumpaste everyday for over a year now so I am not sure any other reason for the drooping to occur

    • @janfrost8704
      @janfrost8704 9 років тому

      I only used fondant...my first try...but I will try again. Should I do half and half? Gumpaste/fondant

    • @BethanyFaithXO
      @BethanyFaithXO 9 років тому +1

      I would use 100% gumpaste and use fondant for the ball in the center to hold everything together

    • @janfrost8704
      @janfrost8704 9 років тому

      Thanks so much for all your help and advice. I will try it again with the gumpaste. And, another thing I did that probably was wrong. I stuck the tips of the bow into a center of buttercream frosting...I thought the fondant would be too hard to poke them into it...all learning curves, right?

    Hi Lynz, i love this cake! Where do you buy gum paste from? I tried to do it last week but i used fondant and tylose instead of gum paste. I didnt let the fondant set for long enough so my bows didnt stay up for long. Just wondering where you get yours and how long it takes to dry completely. Thanks!

      +Afia Noire Hi Afia, I am so glad you like the cake. The gumpaste I use in this video is the Squires Floral Paste, I get it from my local cake supply shop and leave the bows over night until they are completely solid. I hope this helps.

      Hi WithLoveSuuzle, It does set quite hard, it is still technically edible, but I usually remove the bows the same as you would gumpaste flowers when it comes to cutting the cake.
