- Welcome to the second episode of Good Job. Our new show where we look at the well known, and not so well known jobs in the video game and film industry.
Today we're talking to Nateon Ajello from Mixamo, where magical things happen in the world of animation and motion capture. Nateon happens to be a student at a martial arts studio run by the original body actor for 1997's Tekken 3's capoeira master, Eddy Gordo. So we got the two together to make magical motion capture things happen, marking the 15th anniversary of Marcelo's video game debut.

Eddy Gordo got me into capoeira...so thank you...Motion Capture.
rkv same
Me too. now I'm in love with Capoeira
I was so lucky to have even a workshop with Mestre Marcelo in CT, such a wonderful person, teacher and role model! Great video! I told Mestre whenever he wants, I'll play him in Tekken, lol! Just to not get mad if I kick butt for once, mwahaha....
Nice! It was an honor to meet Mestre Marcelo, and to attend one of his workshops in the east coast. I told him I'll play him as Eddie Gordo any day he wants to play Tekken! lol...
Who mocapd Jin??? Do a video on jin please!
This is a cool video. Because of the Eddy Gordo character, I actually did capoeira for a while to teach me flexibility and body awareness, for pro wrestling. It worked. I did things I never had confidence to try.
OMG i took some classes from marcelo. I need to get my ass back to his academy this was fun!
Very nice video. I loved the analogy between Capoeira and photography, specifically that these arts change the way we view the world. The Eddy Gordo mo-cap animations are so fluid and stylish that I hope we continue to see this technique used in future video games and other graphic mediums.
From Pit Fighter to Tekken Tag Tournament 2, it's amazing how we still use a lot of the same technology, and we've just gotten better with it. This, LA Noire... I'm simply astounded. Eddy Gordo was a great choice to show this off with, since he has more animations than probably any other character. I've always been aware of MoCapping, but this was a lot of fun to watch. Thanks for the upload!
I'm so glad to see they still hire Mestre Caveirinha to perform motion capture after all these years. Hope they are paying him a lot better than in the first.
My source is from Larry Leong 's (Escovinha) Bill510 geocities page way back in 1999.
Great episode. Lots of really interesting information. Hope you guys continue this series.
Great video. I like how they talk about the realistic cost, struggle and time involved.
This is marvelous.
I'm still floored by LA Noire's "making of" videos. The facial expression capture is amazing. Thanks for watching! - Mauricio
LOVE THIS. I used to be a music editor so this will naturally be an episode in the future :) In the meantime you should check out the first episode on sound design. We touched on a composer for a sec on that one.
Great stuff. Few years back I downloaded a monster pack with hundreds of game soundtracks, dating up to 20 years back. Lots of fun going through all of them. Some of them are real masterpieces.
whata cool show, love the idea and the execution is great too.
simply amazing c: their arent enough insightful videos of the gameing industry, good job indeed. Do a game programming one~
I used to habitually make video game scores for my own amusement, often catering towards fighting games. I'm in love with gaming soundtracks, because they always seem to have the full emotional power that a movie score excels in, but with the fact that this it becomes a personal experience for the player, because they're involved in the next few moments. Every time I hear a game soundtrack, I'm taken somewhere, where I first remember hearing it, and that song never leaves me.
More more more, very good show!
very good show, keep up the good work guys :)
Excellent 🔥
I would like to see the Tekken's characters motion pictures,Lili,Zafina....
in the shots of the monitor? that appears to be motion builder but since they're using a PhaseSpace system i'd assume they are also using PhaseSpace Master and/or Recap2.
Nice work, Nateon and thanks for the advice. So hard to find valuable sources of information from someone actually working in the Motion Capture industry.
This was a great video. It's a shame there aren't more episodes. Maybe in a future episode you can talk about the animation process? How characters and environments go from 2D to 3D.
I love the idea of focusing on programming. It's a tough subject to shoot though. What specifically interests you about it? - Mauricio
YEEEESS!! WE WANT TO KNOW!!
Great video : )
Eddy is my favourite character since the beginning
:D
If possible, I'd love to see videos about the world of gaming soundtracks. How do companies choose composers? How do they decide what goes and stays? What influences them and what makes a soundtrack or song "iconic"? What about long term composers like Nobuo Uematsu who scores Final Fantasy, and how important it is to keep that sort of name-brand recognition? As always, thanks for the videos guys and gals!
Awesome ! :D
AWESOME
So cool seeing all the behind the scenes work arguably the most interesting Tekken character.
Truly, Tekken is best animated.
this is an awesome video~ I really enjoyed this.. subscribed~
What program is really common for motion capturing and 3D design if i may ask
I've always wondered how they did motion capture looks amazing how they do it thxz for the video havent seen one that explains it this well
I really like the two Good Job episodes - and so do my students. Do you plan on releasing any more?
Pretty good
the motion capture software?
great video good job rev3games
Can we get more shows like this?
common sense says, even before I heard of motion capture, that there's no way Eddie Gordo's move set could be made without human inspiration
Good day! Sir/Maam, I'm an animator too. just wanna ask what do u call those red marks on the body actors??
Good ol Tekken :)
Quem mais veio pelo Nostalgia dos games?
never heard or knew wth capoeira was before playing tekken, so thanks playstation :p
videogames are a new art .The best thing is that its an art that anybody can interact with it in a different way that music does for example.
with cinema, painting, licterature and sculpting you react to it with your imagination
with music you react with imagination and body, dancing.but the music will not change by your moves.
with videogame you react with imagination ,body and you can change the direction of the art finale, you feel like the artist with movement more then with your mind
I didn't even know there was a first episode! Not having video show titles keeps confusing me...
the intro is so 90's its embarrassing a shame as the video is cool and interesting
como vc fez isso?? kero conhecer o eddy
im interested in gameplay programming, a game's strategy, implementation of the game's mechanics and logic, and the "feel" of a game. and also really curious about AI programming, since its such an prominent feature c: thats all~ lol
What is the program?!
Where can I get a job in motion capture? Is it possible to make it into a career?
Who did Lili and Asuka
Do a video for a dragunov
huh?
Lei Wulong mo-cap artist please!
i hate youtube commercials
I had over 20 unsolicited videos from UA-cam in my new videos from those I subscribe to. I do not believe you personally spammed me but UA-cam might have to increase their ad sales.
I wish someone could teach me how to do that...
just back 1 , 4 lol
thats from tekken 2 and it wasnt mo capped, only mocapped characters in tekken 2 were leiwulong and jun kazama from what i recall. alot of the animations in tekken are still not mocapped
just two comments huh
2nd
tekken 3 Hwoarang
No, not high. I don't think you personally spammed that video to my subscriber base. I do think UA-cam is spamming videos to increase ad sales. I had 20 unsolicited videos in the new video section for those I subscribe to. I don't play video games so I know I didn't subscribe, besides, it asked me to subscribe.
everyone it just a little kid asking for atention just ignore
2:53 lol that dude looks like some 45 yr old alcoholic
Why is everyone so upset? I received this video without asking for it -- is that not spam? First time I've had to deal with nintindo-heads not very pleasant nor intelligent people.
Are you high?
i hurt my brain reading this comment
I did not subscribe to this. I consider this video spam and have reported it as such.
