I woke up this morning to my air gap dislodged and water under my sink. My heart sunk. This video just made my day! I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do this myself. My husband is out of town until this weekend and but he'll be impressed when he gets back! Thank you for posting this!
Thank you for showing how to remove and reconnect the air gap! It doesn't look that hard at all. This is something I'd like to do at least every other year to keep the air gap clean!
This video helped me find and fix the issue in my son’s apartment. I really appreciate you providing this video. The apartment complex maintenance fixed the cosmetic issue with the water soaking the base of the under sink cabinet by covering up the cabinet base with ceramic tile. The drain hose from the garbage disposal to the air gap was completely plugged with rotting garbage as was the air gap. (Disgusting). We completed the repair in about 30 minutes and spent $10.00 in parts. Thank you!!
when your sink and counter tops are the exact same and you are wondering why some one snuck into your house and made a how to video. Thanks for the video btw very helpful!!
Thanks for the video. At one point you reference another of your videos that shows how to replace the drain hose from air gap to garbage disposal. It might be easier if you linked to that video in the description of this one.
If your drain hose that connects to the disposal is lower from the connection point, dirty water from your sink drain will enter and sit there growing bacteria until the next time you use the dishwasher. If you make sure the drain hose is elevated from the connection point, you won’t have a stinky odor coming from the drain.
Best video on a air gap I have seen so far. I broke mine accidentally when I changed the garbage disposal. I really never even knew what that thing was, did, or was called. Gonna grab one from Home Depot or Lowes in couple days
Great vid. My kitchen setup is just like yours with garbage disposal. Most likely my air gap is clogged and needs replacing. However, I don't use my dishwasher at all so feel its unnecessary atm to replace the air gap. With that said, my question is can a clogged air gap and hoses cause my sink to backup? Every night when I wash my dishes, the sink gets backed up. I plunge it and the water goes down slowly, but it'll be the same thing the next night.
Hey Sam! Quick question I’m having difficulty getting my old air gap off the hose that comes from the garbage disposal! Any recommendations on how to do it?
one more thing. The air gap hole should face the sink. I mean the plastic one and it should align with the cover hole. In case the pipe gets clogged, water will come back up and you want it to shoot into the sink and not spill out the back onto the counter.
Can you tell me the brand of this faucet I have the same one don't know the brand also the key I would use to change the aerator and what aerator to use.
That should be okay to just leave it connected, but if the disposal drain gets backed up, it could back up towards the gap. A better solution would be to disconnect the disposal from the air gap also, and then install a plug into the port on the disposal. Or, if your disposal is going to get replaced too, just buy a new disposal and don't remove the original plug from that port.
i came here looking for this exact information and you have the last comment, also no where to be found the size of the gasket anywhere , plumbers putty as well?

Thanks, bud! Thanks to you, I got my old air gap removed and was able to install a new filter!
Super helpful and clearly communicated. Thank you!
Good basic info. Confirmed my thoughts on proper installation. Thank you
That sink belongs in a Saw movie.
Thank You, off to buy a new air gap and hose and fix this problem!
Thanks Sam! Just saved my weekend! Great video.
Hey thanks for this video. Replaced my air gap with it!

Clear instructions 👍
Thank you Sam ! Explain very well and clearly
Thank you so much for sharing short but very effective video, you literally saved my day. It worked exactly how you explained.
Thank you.i sure needed that information.
Good explaination and tips
Does it matter if the dishwasher and drain hoses are reverse connected? The big connection to the dishwasher and the thinner one to the drain?
Super helpful. Thank you
Hey Sam! Quick question I’m having difficulty getting my old air gap off the hose that comes from the garbage disposal! Any recommendations on how to do it?
Interesting, was not aware that this was even a thing. How often is this used on a dishwasher?
this was awesome! thanks for the video!

Hi Sam, can you please share the link to the video to clean out the garbage disposal hose, thank you.
Nice video

is there a way to only have a garbage disposal connected to the air gap but not to dishwasher (not using it so planning to remove it)?

cant use chair tips to cover it?@@nigh_anxiety
What size hose/ clamps do you use?
The rubber washer is visible like that?
An installer put in a new dishwasher but failed to secure the air gap drains with clamps! You can just imagine how that went.
That's wrong that gasket goes on the bottom
i came here looking for this exact information and you have the last comment, also no where to be found the size of the gasket anywhere , plumbers putty as well?
The hose to the disposal is too long. It's sagging so it doesn't drain properly. You fixed the symptom, not the problem.
You have more room under you sink than I do. The garbage disposal is in the way and my air gap is on the right side?
What smells? How about cleaning your sink! lol
He is calling this an "air gap" but actually, this is a vent, not an air-gap.
not a vent , its called an air gap
