This game is criminally underrated and I played it every day as a kid. Dodgeball was by FAR my favorite and I'm sad that there's never been anything like it since.
Honestly I'd go as far to say that Sports Mix is one of the most underrated Mario Spin offs, I used to play this so much as a kid, it was always basketball and hockey that were my favourite sports. They were so fun, and still are.
I freaking loved this game as a kid. Dodgeball and Volleyball were my go to whenever I played. And despite not knowing of FF or DQ at the time, I loved playing Cactuar
Ah it was a demo, was it? I remember playing one of those at Toys R Us. At the time I remember playing Super Mario Strikers. Idk if some stores still allow us play demos these days since I haven't seen them in forever.
I'm normally not a fan of the mario sports spin-offs. but mario sports mix holds up really well in my opinion, as it's quite fun in small intervals. it's a shame it's so overlooked.
I'd argue that Mario Sports Superstars for 3DS is truly the most forgotten about Mario Sports game but this one admittedly doesn't get much discussion either. Great coverage of each of the sports and modes to this game, particularly comparing your thoughts on 2v2 to 3v3. Really cool to see the awesome stage variety of this game and I do love the Square Enix guest inclusions. It adds a little more spice to the roster and I wish more of the Mario Sports games either took characters from the wider pool of the Mario universe or other games that developers made.
This is my favorite Mario Sports it’s extremely fun!!! I’m kinda sad it’s forgotten but it’s cool!!!! AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!! And it’s really cool that you made a video on this game!!!!!! Thank you for making this!!!!!! GREAT VIDEO!!!!
I've had this game for almost 10 years now, and I never even knew there was a boss until you mentioned it. To be honest, my siblings and I just used the cheat code that immediately unlocked all of the game's content, so I guess there was never a reason to touch the single-player mode, haha. But great video; I really like these more in-depth retrospectives!
personally, it's so odd to hear that this game is forgotten to most people! growing up it was my favourite game on the wii, and the amount of hours i must've spent on it i couldn't even tell you. even to this day, i still love it, so much so that i remember watching the commercial for it on TV over a decade ago!!!😅 i'd personally say it's very underrated; it's just a nice, simple game to boot up when you feel like it. I simply do not understand how this game is so overlooked, i have so much fun playing Hockey and Dodgeball with my brother, and it makes me a bit sad that nobody talks about it
Also, about dodgeball, a lot of people might not know this, but the reason that there’s only one ball and there’s a part of the court dedicated to players that are out is because it is based on the way that dodgeball is played Asia. In Asia, there is only one ball, and people who are out can get back in by hitting someone who is still in on the opposing team. This is a game made by a Japanese company, after all, so of course they would model dodgeball after the way it is played in Japan!
Not only is this the most underrated Mario game but also my favorite game of all time. I played it a lot as a kid and I love everything about this game (gameplay of the sports, the sports variety, characters, maps, tournament, minigames and music) This is the game for me which has the biggest replay value of all games and because of this this is my favorite game of all time. This game needs more relevance and also love.
I feel like being too impatient made you feel some unnecessary frustration toward the game, expert difficulty eventually becomes doable and then the game just becomes that more fun and mechanical, the bossfight is a blast too !

That was actually one of my very first Mario game is funny enough and when I heard that not many people know about it it’s actually very much hurt my feelings I even went looking for in several game stops back when wii Games was still being Made
I played this game to death as a kid. My favorite moment that I still remember today is at the final tournament when you beat it you get a final boss. I was blown away that this sports game had a boss battle and you beat the boss with sports items was mind blowing to me since I thought final bosses needed swords or guns or punches. This game is so underrated.
Awesome vid as always. My "tier list" of the sports is actually opposite of your's, though one thing I forgot about was how awesome the music was in this game. Mario's arena music was always my favourite, and I'm glad that it was used a ton in this vid.
Sports Mix was made by the same team who made Mario Hoops 3-on-3 for the DS. That's why the basketball is the most mechanically sound, because it's almost a direct port of that that game's gameplay.
Mario sports games are my least favorite Mario spin-off games but after watching this video I'm wiping the dust of my Wii to give this game another shot. I truly wish you review more of the obscure Italian plumber's games.
Fun Fact about Square Enix making this game, is that they actually developed Mario Hoops 3 on 3 for the DS. Really weird how they make sports games for Nintendo
Thank God someone is talking about this, legit one of my favourite Wii games and by far and away my favourite Mario Sports game, so much nostalgia. The soundtrack, the design of the courses, the party games and the Sports Mix was fantastic. As a kid I didn’t even know what Final Fantasy was but the inclusion of Moogle, Ninja, Black Mage and white Mage was pretty cool. The ship was also really badass, and fighting Behemoth was also really cool, the integration of all the sports in one boss battle was good. My favourite stage is Walugi’s Pinball and out of the four sports I’d put them in order best to “worst” (they were all pretty fun.) : Dodgeball Hockey Volleyball Basketball. God I remember playing Bowser Jr’s Blvd and just getting stupid bonuses and having like over 100-point games or charging up the hockey stick with that Z button and just whacking people, missing on Volleyballs on DK Dock and Ghoulish Galleon was something else. Man, what a game. Can’t wait to watch the video. Edit: After watching the video, maybe I’m quite a bit biased, but playing the game again a week ago, I had the same enjoyment I did with it years ago. It was a good watch, well put together and I agree with most of what was said, just to a lesser extent.
As a kid this was one of my favourite games on the Wii, it's way too underrated imo so thanks for bringing attention to it!! The Bowser Jr bingo volleyball stage had a frickin' banging ost 🔥🔥 Also I used to think that all the square enix characters were just, like, really obscure mario characters 💀
The comments are absolutely right. This game is so fun. When I was 7 and in an apartment waiting for our 2nd house to get done, I played this game all the time. One of my favorite childhood games. LOVE IT. I wish this was still active though.
Before Smash, this game along with Fortune Street were the only reason I knew about Dragon Quest. And now that Hero is in the game I got into the franchise. Great video btw. Question: Can you make a video about Fortune Street (Mario and Dragon Quest crossover)? That game is so underrated and would love to see you cover it.

thank you for making this. this game is the definition of nostalgia for me idk why. i know you said you thought the random characters were weird, and I agree, but the memories of cactaur and black mage are like no other for me. i literally have no idea who they are outside of this game, i just loved using them all in there. good vid

I played this game with my friends, and i can say is this game extreme underrated, this game is excellent
I loved playing dodgeball as a kid unlocked all gold balls and characters/variants simply couldn’t get enough and wish it came to the switch it was amazing
I genuinely believe that this is a very underrated Mario Sports game, and judging by the comments here, I’m glad that I’m not the only one. It’s a real shame that Nintendo hasn’t really tried this again, the only time being Mario Sports Superstars, and that game was was like Mario Sports Mix but _worse._
Another super entertaining and well put together vid dude. Loved the editing and I can tell you put a ton of effort into getting all the gameplay and talking footage. Excited to see what you put out next!

This isn’t the first time Final Fantasy characters made an appearance in a Mario Game. They also appeared in Mario Hoops 3 on 3 too. I thought they kinda fit in nicely. And also this version of dodgeball is actually the version that’s played in Japan. Minus the health bar of course
I loved this game lol just remembered it I loved how much playability you had with the tournaments and such. Lots of progression to make, I actually miss this
I'll never forget this game, beat the Story Mode (basketball version, my team was Mario, Waluigi, and Bowser) in one take during a night at Best Buy. Wonderful memory...
Ah yes, Sports Mix was one the very few games to give my small channel some traction back in the day. Up until the end of the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection days, my favorite and best sport ended up being Basketball with the rest fading away from my interest. This game even has a cheat code to unlock everything. A rarity in games nowadays. I don't look at this game as fondly now as back then, but it's nice we are in an era where people are looking back at all these Mario Sports games from child/teenhood and giving them quite the modern attention.
I personally love the tournament mode. Not only it is fun to face different teams, you can take different paths after you beat a certain tournament and get collectables like new alts for the characters.
Wait, people DON'T remember Mario Sports Mix? THAT WAS THE BEST MARIO SPORTS GAME! I still play it to this day. I love playing Ninja, and my main is Dodgeball.
Fun fact in voleyball you can actually freely jump by pressing 1, the game doesn't tell you but that's why it felt amazing discovering it, I can surprise the cpus by sending the ball back in an instant! And it plays a bit into the mind-reading factor you talked about in dodgeball
15:05 There is one difficulty level over Expert mode if I remember right, and they are actually fair ! With some practice they even become pretty easy to win against ! I personally had to play on wifi at a certaint point to get some competition~
I can never forget this gem of a game, as it's a game I play on my own channel from time to time. Also, with my favorite character, Peach, rocking those pink shorts of hers, I definitely won't give up Mario Sports Mix. 👑💖
This was the Mario sports game I have the most fond memories from in my childhood just having all of my cousins playing and like screaming at each other
Remember being poor and getting a wii for a christmas. I played this game everyday just about. I loved doing the tournaments and wished I could relive playing this game
Mario sports mix is definitley underrated. I still have this game and its still amazing. My favourite sports were definitley basketball & dodgeball. Dodgeball was so epic and basketball too because it reminded me about how much i played mario hoops 3 on 3 and it also made me realise how similar those games were.
Honestly I think that’s why Tournament was my fav mode in sports mix. It was genuinely hard, and having that struggle/challenge was refreshing in a Mario sports game
I have played over 600 games in my lifetime so far and I still firmly believe that Mario Sports Mix is still the best game. I just haven't played it in so long because the Wii disc broke and later the Wii disc drive
Didn’t even know about this game until I saw someone here on UA-cam play it. The Wii U was out for two years at that point. I can see why this game had a blink and you miss it spotlight from Nintendo. Never got a chance to play it myself. Also I’m totally with you on wanting a Mario Hockey game. It NEEDS to happen
You can actually unlock everything for a single character in one tournament, and it is in the expert cup after you complete all tournament modes on each sport. Then, this cup appears after you beat behemoth for the first time and this cup lets you play all the sports in a random order throughout all 3 cups, but with expert difficulty. For example when you complete star road on star cup, an optional road, you unlock ninja on all 4 sports. I actually play this game quite often and it isn't that hard once you learn it
It's a shame not many people played this. This is one of my all time favorite Wii games! The sports themselves were also really detailed and fleshed out for a "sports compilation." And the fact you can play as Miis and Square Enix characters added a great deal of variety.
The Mario Sports Superstars on the 3DS was boring in comparison to this game! This was one of my favorite games. We need a sequel with more Sports added!
I recently bought this game again after like 6/7 years without owning it mainly due to the music but I luckily still had my old save file and hopped right back from where I last played and have to same the game holds up very well (at least in my opinion) I hope (but doubt) this game gets a port or sequel on the switch. It seems like a perfect multiplayer game to have on the switch’s library. Especially in table top mode.

this game is still deep in my heart it was so fun to play with a friend of mine
Thanks a lot for talking about this game tho ! It's much appreciated !
Oop Expert mode is actually the hardest.
The Sports Mix mode Says it is Expert Difficulty but is actually Higher than Expert Difficulty
Maybe that is what you meant?
@@ophilia That could be it !
@@sensey181 once you get used to it it won’t be too hard
I can never forget this gem of a game, as it's a game I play on my own channel from time to time. Also, with my favorite character, Peach, rocking those pink shorts of hers, I definitely won't give up Mario Sports Mix. 👑💖
I’m really fricking glad you talked about this. This game is so damn underrated, it’s astonishing. Wish it’d be recognized more than its credited for.
Mario Sports Mix was my childhood, and the first game I ever completed. It holds an incredibly special place in my heart.
sports mix is one of my most played games of all time
I grew up with this game as a kid. This is why I support game preservation so these timeless experiences are not destroyed by soulless companies.
This and hoops 3on3 are pure gold.
Mario Sports Mix is my favorite Mario Sports game
The only thing that would make the game better is that we could see their stats and how many points they scored and all that
Mario sports mix was one of the best Mario games I’ve played and I’ve played with my cousin 10 years ago
Mario Sports Mix is honestly my favorite Mario sports game
I remember getting this at GameStop and play it nonstop with my friends. Those were the good old days.
I actually play this game quite often and it isn't that hard once you learn it
This is my favorite Mario sports game, I'm actually trying to buy this game again because I never finished it.
This game was the GOAT as well.. still regret selling my Wii, now I can't listen to the theme song without tearing up. Miss this!!!!
It's a shame not many people played this. This is one of my all time favorite Wii games! The sports themselves were also really detailed and fleshed out for a "sports compilation." And the fact you can play as Miis and Square Enix characters added a great deal of variety.
Oh the memories! I remember playing Dodgeball and Hockey a TON!
Oh my god this game was amazing! Played this everyday and loved it!
This channel needs more subscribers
This game was part of my childhood, it really is a masterpiece.
FINALLY, A RECENT VIDEO ABOUT MY CHILDHOOD GAME!!!
I would never forget this game. It is one of my favourite game on the wii
Loved how you dressed differently for each sport
Keep up the good work!
12:31 You CAN actually jump and shoot it back earlier ! Just press the jump button right away, expert level cpus do it all the time.
I've always remembered Sports Mix. I still play it to this day!
I played that game all the time when i was a kid! I remember Dodgeball being my favorite and hating Volleyball with a passion 😂 sucks that this game is so underrated tho :(
I love how all my fav games were neglected.
Mario Sports Mix - Great game with friends
Pokemon B&W 2 - Masterpiece, GameFreak Peak
I join you with Basketball being the most complete and fun gameplay
This game is incredible. This game on the Nintendo Switch would be a blessing !
fr this game is one of the best mario sports games and it needs more praise and attention
I always loved this one, and always wondered why it isn’t talked about
There is a way to instsantly jump to hit the ball in volleyball. You don't need to do the two hit set up to shoot it on the other side.
Criminal how underrated this game is fr
