- Here's Rod Canion and (most of) the original senior VPs for Compaq Computer Corporation, rapping(!) and acting goofy for the cameras in a music video, circa 1990.
Why this "Beat Big Blue" video seemed necessary to make is known only to those who participated (if even they can recall). It was a very different time for Compaq back then... Streams of seemingly endless cash flowed like wine through department budgets. Indeed, at this point in history those at the helm of Compaq felt that they could do no fiscal wrong and, for a while, they were right.
So, for your musical enjoyment(?), here's Rod and his home boys layin' down some bling bling, fat-cat style, big cigars and all!
EDITOR NOTE: I had originally labeled this clip as containing the Cpq Board of Directors... that was, of course, erroneous. It finally dawned on me that I was, in fact, seeing the senior VPs - aka Top Brass - that actually ran the place at the time. So, please pardon the incorrect titling in the beginning and end of the video. These things happen. I'm getting old and I had a senior (VP) moment.

Compaq may have had great PCs for their era, but the audio and graphics for this video were almost definitely done on a Commodore Amiga!

Bill is reeeeeally creeping me out. This makes the superbowl shuffle look like a Drake song. It's a shame this video isn't more well known, it cracks me up every time. Tim and Eric couldn't make a fake song half this bad.

This is what happens when businesses don't recognize an ethnically and gender ("women" real ones) divers board of directors. Obviously Compaq demise was a result of living to much in the present because in their shortsightedness someone thought making this video was a great idea and they all agreed with it probably having just returned from the 19 Hole's two martini lunch to commemorate the six figure bonuses they just received.Well must remember not to hate the player, but to hate the game.

Arthur3835 This was not a "team building" exercise. Compaq could do no wrong for several years and these dorks just wanted to make a "rap" video. A bad, very bad, video. Oh, and yes, only in the USA. Where else on earth could three guys create the fastest growing company in history at the time? Duh. Be proud of these possibilities! Or move to some 3rd world country and whine about the American Dream from there.

The original was something of a proto-meme song: it charted in the hot 100, was parodied or pastiched by a lot of different businesses at the time and even inspired the much later Sex Offender Shuffle viral video
