I dunno if this is normal, but giving your kids what you never got to have, even something as standard as a birthday party, helps to heal the old wounds from the past. So seeing stuff like this makes me cry, even when I do it for my own kids I have to take a moment to hide away and just let the pain out, but am so happy that they are having the time of their life in my stead. I guess bc my own family did a number on me as the nonbiological unfavorite child of the bunch. Kids should know they matter to you, kids matter period. And stuff like this, I think it lets them know. Actions speak louder than words. It's a painful sacrifice, giving what you were never given, but it's also the most endearing.
