    The role that made Louise Brooks a star, and its easy to see why. She's introduced in the last third of the movie in what is basically a standalone segment. Here it is in its entirety.

    I can only imagine how much she must've stood out at the time, because she still manages to have a "modern" look nearly a century later.

    Nearly 90 years after this film, Louise Brooks' potent sex appeal is still off the scale!

    fantastic, it's all in the eyes with louise, and a dancers body. she was panned in her day for her laid back style of acting, but it was way ahead of it's time, so much more natural and realistic than her contemporaries. and it's no wonder louise was a goddess, completely comfortable with her body and sexuality, her camera presence was mesmerizing.

    Each and every time I'm able to view footage of this era I feel sooo homesick..
    I believe I'm alive at the wrong time..
    Or missing a past life.
    And she is one of the BEST

    I've never seen a Victor McLaglen silent before. he was in the silent version of lon chaney's The Unholy 3 which also starred harry earles as a thief disguised as a baby. and I thought that was Robert armsrtong from king kong and The Most Dangerous game. louise brooks? what else can I say that hasn't already been said. she had a history similar to francis farmer. they both said, screw this movie star crap if it means giving up my freedom! kudos to them both. thanks for the video.

    I notice Spike's friend "Bill" went on later to capture and exploit the heck out of King Kong. Louise was so beautiful, and here, like Sue Lyon in "Lolita," she affirms my bad feelings about women cheating and playing men for fools. I want never to be so vulnerable. Alas.

    So they go gay?

  • @sandrashevey8252
    @sandrashevey8252 10 років тому +3

    On the contrary, Louise Brooks should be what inspires to go back in time and kill Hitler and go forward in time and kill Hitler. Louise Brooks is every little Jewish girl given half a chance. She is impersonated by Claire Bloom who is still very much alive and carries on the Louise Brooks tradition. Kitty Carlisle looked like this in the Twenties but was encouraged to change her looks.

    • @thom6746
      @thom6746 4 роки тому +1

      Kitty Carlisle? A wanna-be with all the sex appeal, beauty, and talent of a mop. She was a climber who married gay Moss Hart in order to get ahead in New York society. Moss Hart left her nothing in his will, and she spent the rest of her life after his death working for peanuts on game shows and the lecture circuit so she could keep up the illusion of a society matron. Louise Brooks was an incredible beauty and sex icon. Kitty Carlisle was a nobody.

      @@thom6746 So true. So true. I would add that she spent her `remaining years` exploiting the legacy of Moss Hart. She had a facelift late in life that went wrong. But somehow and I hate to sound like a ghoul it seemed fitting.

      @@sandrashevey8252 I read her autobiography. She made no bones about being a social climber and marrying Moss Hart because he was the most prominent single male still available in the social circle she listed to join. That he was gay was irrelevant. That Hart left her nothing in his will speaks volumes.

    • @sandrashevey8252

      @@thom6746 Gessus..actually my comment about Kitty was ingenuous. I met her first when working as Barbara Walter`s PA. She was a guest on `Emphasis` when NBC radio was still live. I met her again years later when she performed at the Lincoln Centre Library (works by Moss Hart) I mentioned the resemblance as I recalled a photo I had once seen of Kitty when she was dating a Brazilian consul in Rome I think. Her hair was cut with fringe (later trademark of Brooks) For some reason religion was an issue and she was dumped by the consul. She ended up marrying a gay Jew. Sad I think. Very sad. Awful that he left her nothing. Why?

    • @thom6746
      @thom6746 3 роки тому +1

      @@sandrashevey8252 she wasn't even mentioned in his will which he redid a few months before he died. He left it all to the kids. He was in therapy for his issues 5 days a week. And she once demanded he start telling her what he talked about in therapy. He refused and things got chilly afterward. Supposedly, his gay theatre friends convinced him that she only married him for money and status and that she was too worldy not to know that he was gay when they married. There are also letters where Kitty heaped contempt on almost everyone she knew in nyc and pretended to be friends with.
