Currently have a 22" Blackstone. Looking to get something bigger so this helps. I will say for Blackstone support I had a problem with my griddle top being severely warped and they sent me out a new top. Just took a single email to support, they asked for pictures and to register my blackstone, they looked at the pictures and sent out a replacement top right away. So in Dec 2020 their support was really good.

I guess I'm about to find out if their support is still good. My brand new Blackstone 22" On The Go 1967 with Hood has something crazy going on with the burners and the top is warped so that the center is domed with a 1/4" lower difference at the sides when cold and 1/2" difference when hot. At a medium temp setting, it gets up around 650 degrees in the weird hot spot, but two or three inches away, it's 90 - 100 degrees cooler.

SEE PART 2 OF THIS VIDEO HERE: Blackstone Griddle Vs. Camp Chef FTG 600 | NEW Flat Top Outdoor Griddle Comparison | Everyday BBQ
    ua-cam.com/video/LTDW2-TjN4Q/v-deo.html
PLEASE READ THROUGH THE COMMENTS BELOW AS THERE ARE GOOD POINTS OF DISCUSSION IN ADDITION TO THINGS I COVERED IN THE VIDEO. I WILL ADD A COUPLE IMPORTANT ITEMS HERE:
    1) The Camp Chef “Pre-Seasoned”: although this is true, the Camp Chef STILL needs a little seasoning for it to truly be slick enough for things like smash burgers for example. I tested it by making those for the first cook and they did stick a little. So, I cooked a pound of thick bacon on it and it’s good to go. So this is partially true.
    2) The Camp Chef allows you to light separate burners individually: Yes this is indeed true and gives you some additional versatility.
    3) TYPICALLY, the Camp Chef is $100 more. This does vary though depending on where you’re buying each one and on sales etc.. I did not cover this in the video but realize I should have.
Here’s a copy of my full video description:
This video is a comparison of the Blackstone 36" Griddle and the Camp Chef FTG 600 Griddle. Both these Flat Top Griddle's are outdoor griddles and I truly love them both. I did this video to provide a comparison between the brands for any prospective buyers in the market considering both. I hope this video provides information to help you make your decision! You really can't go wrong with either! I hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching and supporting Everyday BBQ!

after watching this video a few of months ago, I really wanted a Camp Chef griddle. I was totally bummed by the grease collection system on the Blackstone. After checking prices, I realized that as THAT moment, I didn't want to spend that much on either one. BUT then, about two months ago, I was at Walmart and saw a Blackstone 28", three burner griddle with a deep fryer accessory and two stove top type burners on the side. It was way more than either of the two being compared here, but here's what grabbed me. The grease collection system is an indentation at the back center of the griddle! No more messy dripping! And, when you add the other burners, I was sold! Well, it was a couple hundred bux more than either of these, but it sits proudly on my back deck even as I write this comment. Oh, one more thing: It comes with a hinged cover with enough room under it for a fairly tall (6-7") pot to fit inside. Your video review is greatly appreciated. Subscribed the first time I watched this video. Keep up your great vids!!

I have a 5 yr old Blackstone 36 in., after cooking and cleaning the griddle top I lightly oil it and cover my griddle with a sheet of marine grade vinyl ( used for boat seat cushions ) I use some spring clamps to hold it to the shelves it works great. I recently bought an adjustable propane regulator it goes to 30 psi. I will never go that high but it gives me just a few more BTU's for cooking in the winter here in Pennsylvania. I also have the wrap around shelf kit, that is nice. I love my Blackstone, cook on it year round.

Considered Blackstone several months back, but after several video reviews I decided on Camp Chef. Since my purchase, I have used it so many times and love every aspect of my flat top 600. I do not see the cover issue as an issue with me at least. If I ever did get a drip, it would drop onto a grill mat that I have under it in the event I spill or splash something on the floor. I did have to contact Camp Chef with a question and have to say I was surprised as to how fast they responded and then eve followed up to see if what they said worked. I do like the lid idea which I don't have. Great job.

GREAT comparison!!! I've had my CC for about 7 or 8 months now. My only complaint is I don't use it enough. I definitely just ordered that hard cover for mine as well, When I did my shopping for the griddle it came down to these very same units. I too found that the CC had a little bit more to offer so that is why I went that route. It's HILARIOUS to me with the number of people in the "BS Cult" (see what I did there???) that praise that product yet they knock the CC just because, even though the CC has better qualities. At the end of the day they both do what they are designed to do so just cook on them and quit that "BLACKSTONERS for life and Camp Poop sucks." So glad to see a great video outline the differences and present it for all of us to see. GREAT JOB!!!

It only took 30 seconds into your video for me to say to myself, "Why didn't I think of that?!". You have finally helped me figure out how to get my neighbor to mow his lawn. LOL. All joking aside (well, maybe not all) as an owner and fan of the Blackstone, I appreciate your honest comparison. It made me a subscriber after one video, despite the fact we are supposed to be sworn enemies (I'm a Cardinals Fan and you're obviously Cubs fan) LOL. I have had my 36 inch stainless steel Blackstone with the rear grease trap for a little over a year and my family and I absolutely love it. I just made beef stir-fry with fried rice on it tonight and it turned out great. When I purchased it, I was contemplating getting a gas grill for those occasions when I just didn't have time to do the charcoal grill. I went with the gas griddle instead, and never looked back. Whether one goes with a Blackstone or Camp Chef, you can't beat the versatility of a gas griddle. And for those thinking about getting either, definitely get a 'hard-cover' for it. They may seem a bit spendy ($80 on up) but you will be happy you have one.
I am hopeful that come July we will both be able to griddle while once again listening to our favorite baseball teams. God Bless and GO CARDS!

Good video. As I was trying to decide between these two griddles I did a ton of research online and pretty much found the same information between the two. I was set on getting a Camp Chef and then realized I couldn't find it anywhere within about 200 miles of where I live and people were having trouble with damaged ones when the were shipped. I just happened to be at a Walmart 45 minutes from the small town I live in and they had everything Blackstone. So ultimately that is what I decided to buy and have really enjoyed it. But I am with you, I am pretty sure both products will do a heck of a job! I sometimes cook for a lot of people so I am happy with my Blackstone decision. Thanks for another good video.

I bought my camp chef from an outdoor store here in Arkansas called Atwood's for 299.99 and for me it was great deal because I needed a grill and so now I can grill Ribeyes and burgers and Sunday morning I can make sausage and bacon with any style egg's for the adults and blueberrie pancakes for the kid's, do as far as I'm concerned the camp chef wins hand's down for versatility and value for the how it looks on the front porch! It has made all my friends on Facebook jealous from salmon steak's to breakfast on Sunday with three pounds of bacon and southern style fried potatoes! Absolutely love my Camp Chef🔥

I just got the Blackstone 36 Stainless for $249. I absolutely love it. I really don’t see the value in paying the extra money for the Camp chef. I really don’t think you can go wrong for either grill both are both grills are well built. The big point of making a purchase like this is USE THEM. And use them often. That also will keep your cooking surfaces well oiled and looking great.

Hey Mike, very thorough review. I have the Camp Chef and love it. Thanks for the 'spot' supporting Backyard Life Gear and their covers. Just ordered one. Finally, I can get rid of the empty juice jugs that I use under my grill fabric cover to create a slant for rainwater to shed off the grill. If you don't do that, or have a metal cover, you'll find a rust spot on your nice seasoned grill if you let water pool on the fabric cover which it tends to do since there's the side rims to the griddle.
One thing about my Camp Chef though - not sure if other people have had this issue. My griddle is warped! Don't know exactly how this happened but I have an 3/8" or so warp. If I press down hard the grill will teeter-todder. Normally not a problem unless I want to press that burger hard on the right front corner that's sits high. I 'suspect' that the warp formed when we used the grill with one or two burners on high to get a good braise without lighting the other burners - perhaps it cooled rapidly and set the warp in.
Curious - did I miss an unwritten rule for griddle cooking?!?

    • @EverydayBBQ

I appreciate your support! You’ll love the hardcover as it really protects the griddle top. My griddle hasn’t warped. I’m not sure if it matters, but in cold weather (which I get a lot of) I always warm it on low and gradually increase temps as the top heats.

When I was younger, every time I left town and my husband cooked, he warped my kitchen, 2 burner, cast iron griddle. 🤬🤣🤣 So I'd have to get a new griddle. Lover boy even caught my kitchen on fire once. Can't turn any cast iron to Max Blast out the gate. Start out on low or medium so the cast iron can catch up with the temp. Then increase it. Doesn't take long. #35YearsLater 🤗

Mike, I didn't hear you mention something I have heard about the 2. The Blackstone only has one igniter, you have to light the main burner to light them all as it daisy chains to the next burner.. The Campchef has independent igniters for each burner.. I totally agree with you on how they both treat creators.. Blackstone would not even talk to me and Campchef treats me great! Great video!

Yesterday, I got the Blackstone griddle from Walmart. It was a pretty good deal at $297 for the 36" with the lid. Unfortunately, it was missing the hardware for the paper towel holder, and it came with 4 right side brackets for the shelves, no left facing, so I couldn't even hang the shelves. The griddle also has 2 rust spots. I am just going to return it and now get the Camp Chef one, unless WalMart can work something out with me. I wrote Blackstone, but they still haven't responded yet. Thanks for this video! Very informative.

I would just like to say that I have been debating for several months over buying a Blackstone and have came very close several times. I have seen several of the camp chef adds and am seriously considering the camp chef tahoe. I accidentally stumbled across your video comparing the two and am pretty well convinced now to purchase the camp chef. I really liked your honesty and telling it like it is between the two and have to admit that was what helped make my decision towards the camp chef. I am not your everyday grill master and for the most part not even a dedicated weekend one either. North Carolina gets a lot of snow and bad winters up here in the western end of the state and lots of times the power goes out and I am wanting something that is going to be good enough to grill things from bacon, eggs hamburgers and so on but at the same time can flip the griddle part off and be able to have the eyes to deep fry fish and fries as well. I don't really know the difference between the camp chef pro series and the tahoe but feel as though either one is a good candidate for what i need. Your view point appreciated but Thank You for a great video important view points on both units. donnie in N.C.

My only concern with the Camp Chef was on how low the heat can go for a keep warm zone for example. Maybe it's the same as the BS, but I heard a few times that the lowest burner setting may be too hot.
I do really like both griddles, especially the CC lowering shelves.

    • @EverydayBBQ

This is really a great point and another thing I forgot to cover. On my Blackstone, I keep my far right burner set to low As a keep warm zone. And the camp chef, I just keep that far right burner off. There is enough he generated from the other three burners to keep that area warm without the burner being lit.

@@EverydayBBQ Agreed, most pre-seasoning on these griddles and modern cast iron products is more of a liability than a benefit. I followed Cowboy Kent Rollins advice on how to smooth out rough pre-seasoned cast iron (60-80 grit sandpaper in an orbital sander) on my Blackstone 28" griddle and it made for a much smoother and slicker surface after re-seasoning.

    • @dkidl2000
      @dkidl2000 5 років тому

@@TheYuppiejr Hi. Sorry it took so long to get back, I don't have my notifications on lol. I'm not disagreeing with you but I just do things a little different. I told Mike this but I don't think I told anybody else, but I got paralyzed when I was 18 and I've been on my own since then. When I got my first place on my own when I was 18 after I got paralyzed, one of the first things my mom gave me was her cast iron skillet. I love that thing and still have it today! I don't wash it and I season it all the time after I use it!
I love cast iron and I've been buying a lot more of it ever since then. I now have another cast iron skillet, and then another one with grills on the bottom, cast iron Pizza Pan, one of those big cast iron plates with a griddle on one side and grills on the other. A cast iron griddle, and a couple other small things at their cast iron.
Now all of them that I bought came preseason. Now I'm not like Kent Rollins, I didn't sand any of them down when I got them, I do however rub them all down with grapeseed oil, put the oven on 400, and then put them in the oven to re-season them.
Everytime after I use them I never use soap on them. I wash them with water, scrape them with wooden spatula if needed, are a sponge with some salt needed, and put some grapeseed oil on after I make sure it's dry, out some grapeseed oil oil in them and let that soak i. Every six months I put them in the oven and reseason again.. I've never had trouble with anything sticking this way and I've never had to sand anything down that's new that came preseason?
About five years ago I bought an infrared grill. That's what stainless steel. Instructions said to season that up before use. I've treaded that the same way as I did with any cast iron that I own. So far it works great!

Super video! A few questions for you (I scrolled through many comments and didn't see these addressed): 1. Do the units emit so much heat from the sides that the side table are effectively unusable during a cook? 2. Do you have a preference which one is easier to clean, holds the seasoning better and resist rust? 3. Do they rust in between use? 4. To the degree they're interchangeable (using griddle and/or grates), A. does Blackstone have this option? B. Is there an option that you can use grates on half and griddle on half and do you have an opinion on this? Thanks so much.

Very good job with your fairness. I'm sure it had to be difficult to talk bad about either. I own a 22" and a 36" Blackstone. I love both (the 22" lives on the RV). The new rear drip grease trap is MUCH better than the one you have, and I use the disposable aluminum liners, making clean-up even EASIER. Also, on my newer model 36" the side trays DO fold down and they are mounted closer to the height of the griddle top, not lower like yours. The good is that things are easier to reach. The bad is that I have to be careful with plastic bottles, etc. as the shelf is closer to the burners and I fear plastic may melt.

Thank you for a great review/comparison video. You made several great points that were selling items for me when I compared the two. I liked the flexibility of being able to have an individual ignition on each burner, it just allows for better reliability; if one doesn’t work you still have 3 more. The other selling point for me was that if I want to cook with the flat top off there is a handle on the back of the griddle that allows you to remove and transport that heavy top whereas the black stone didn’t ( at least it didn’t 3 years ago). Great job, thanks again. CC gets my thumbs up.

It also has the individual ignition on each burner. I like this feature on all of my grills. Lastly the addition of the grill grates standard under the griddle. Thank you for the honest review. i watched another comparison video and they obviously had a favorite and the review was ridiculously one-sided. I appreciate you showing the good and bad in both. I have a 22" Blackstone which is my first griddle. I've had it about 2 months now. Have carried to camper and back to house a couple of times and have enjoyed it. Was looking at getting the 36" Blackstone and came across the Camp Chef and been looking at comparisons.
Since I have the smaller Blackstone i have thought about getting the Camp Chef so that I would have one of each. Would continue to use the Blackstone for travel. It has the grease cup in the back and it works well. My only problem is that sometimes while I'm scraping the grill I will bump the clip on the cup where it sits along the edge and it will slide and grease will hit the floor. Just have to be careful in that area; otherwise it's fine. Thank you again!!

It will melt cheese and heat up any container you put there(as in too hot to touch). Amazon has a relatively cheap cover that fits the Camp Chef with the shelves up. I have one and it works. You are in a covered porch so you don't have this problem, but make sure you use the bottom straps to tighten. The shelves create dead space under a cover. This makes it easy on windy days to have it fly off if you get lazy and not strap it.

Great Video Mike. I purchased the latest Blackstone with the rear grease trap shortly after it was released. I like it but it has a few drawbacks. I ordered the surround shelf at the same time I ordered the grill. I tried to install it but it was designed for the old style grease cup. It just didn't fit well and very flimsy. I called Blackstone and told me it would work but had to leave a couple support brackets off in order for it to work. I wish I was told this when I ordered my grill because I would not have ordered it. Still haven't
installed it. Second thing I don't like about rear grease trap is when taking the cover off and if your not careful it can catch the grease trap can and make a nice mess on your deck. Next thing, on my last few cooks, the top will wobble bad as if it warps when it gets hot. After it cools down it won't wobble. I haven't called Blackstone about this issue yet but am going to sometime next week. Other than those 3 things, I love my Blackstone. Cooks great. Once again, thank you for the video.

Don't apologize for being honest!! Great review. I just bought a combo griddle/fryer from Blackstone and can't wait to install it to start. All the pointers you made will be very helpful despite me already pulling the trigger on the Blackstone

what about the steel top surface? I heard that the camp chef top surface gets rust fairly easily. That was one reason why I bought a blackstone. I have no complains about mine.

I have the Camp Chef, and I can see that you use a cover which for me sucks because it is not waterproof but water-resistant, so water gets in and rust the griddle. I had a custom cover made and stopped the water intrusion, but I had to re-seasoning the griddle. Otherwise, I love it. Thank you for your video

I have the newer model Blackstone with the rear grease management, and I'll say I haven't had any issues with grease getting on my deck. I will say that getting the burners to light sometimes is a pain, but I have no regrets. I might need to pick up a camp chef next.

Somebody mentioned a must have is a outdoor carpet under grill so grease doesn't get on deck. They spray wash the carpet once a year.

Nice video, I have the 17" Blackstone grill for camping love it but flame was definitely a problem with wind. I ended up buying a propane hose adapter with adjustable regulator so I can turn that flame up !! Thanks
