In Magic: the Gathering, Persist is a mechanic that allows your creature to come back after the first time it dies. It not only gives you some extra value, it has some serious combo potential! In this video, I look at the 10 Persist cards that have left the biggest impact on competitive Magic.

by the way, putrid goblins is seeing play in a pauper combo deck called MoggWarts that makes infinite mana with him
Sees play in Historic monoblack persist, that gets infinite mana / infinite mill with the altars
i want nizzahon to know that i had a dream last night, that he made a video where he rapped the whole top 10. like had rhymes and everything for each card
Bots are Persistent
and Undying XD
They definitly undying, since every time you feel like you got rid of them, they come back stronger
Are y’all talking about Helldivers?
Best feeling in the world back in the day was using Gavony Township to put a +1/+1 counter on a persisted Kitchen Finks or two.
I play Murderous Redcap in EDH in a Wort, Boggart Auntie deck. W/o access to Ivy Lane Denizen I use Metallic Mimic to make my persist goblin go infinite w/Sling-Gang Lieutenant. I forgot about Putrid Goblin and will probably add that in soon.
Please stop playing infinites in commander
I was literally just brewing this keyword this afternoon. You have the most impeccable timing.
50 points to 182 points. Pretty stacked.
Cauldron of Souls was the first thing that came to mind
I love using the persist mechanic in commander format. Depending on the deck, you can make some pretty broken combos, and people just don't seem to play instant speed graveyard removal or much graveyard hate at all, which isn't a great thing against my Alesha Reanimator deck. I wonder if I can make use of the undying mechanic in commander as easily as persist.
Any plans on making a video on the undying mechanic, or do you already already have one?
Ppl say my Mikaeus, the Unhollowed deck is degenerate. It tries to take advantage of that undying mechanic.... and combo stuff
Does the card Persist itself have any points? Could have been cute to shout it out but I'm not actually sure if went on to see any play.
As many of you will know, I've been very persistent in trying to get "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)", and today marks no exception. After celebrating Eid, it's good to also get a nice NIzzahon video to relax after feasting and praying. I really am surprised that #2 isn't #1 and that #1 isn't #2 though.
Please do so with undying
"Trow" is pronounced with a long Oh (rhymes with "glow" and "row"). It's supposed to evoke the word "Troll"
???, what's the difference between Persist and Undying?
with persist the creature returns with a -1/-1 counter on it; with undying it returns with a +1/+1 counter on it
Persist is downside (except in edge cases/combos) comes back with -1/-1 counter ,
Undying is upside comes back with +1/+1 counter.
Also recent Magic is not so down with -1/-1 counters anymore so that's also a thing to consider.
@@wolfdwarfeasier to go infinite with persist, since there's a plethora of options to put +1/+1 counters on etb, not so much with -1/-1
@@439801RS True! Since +1 and -1 cancel out :)
Please Top 10 Basic Lands.
Why?
@@JasonOshinko I'm curious what the numbers are. You do realize your question applies to every top 10 right? The answer is always the same, some number of people will find it interesting. Also selling it as "the best color in magic" would be sure to get a lot of comments.
I wonder how WOTC feels that the main legacy of this mechanic is it being on several combo pieces.
Highly doubt they care
I wonder why so many people pronounce it "ark-mage" instead of "arch-mage".
Archangel, architect, arachnid, english is a stupid language with lots of inconsistent sound and letter pairings from word to word. I personally prefer arch-mage too but it's not surprising people have different interpretations for fantasy terms like this and depending on the setting ark-mage is sometimes canonically correct.
Kitchen Finks?
Edit:
Infinite Life OP, who knew?
Eh, beat me to it.
You'd think infinite damage to the face would generally beat being at infinite life
@@439801RS The Finks is cheaper too. That counts.
