Truly one of their best. Massively underrated. Listen three times and be converted for all time. Enjoy...
Simon Jenkins Completely agree. It took me more than three listens though to truly appreciate the beauty of this album.
Simon Jenkins, I first heard Trespass in November 1974, when I was 14. After three hearings I was so in love with it, and have been ever since!
It is my favourite album. And I adore the other 1970 recordings from Genesis, included on Genesis Archives, 1967-1975!
""A realm of wonderful beauty and ancient revelation, indeed!""

yeah, I've liked it for a long time now, some songs stand the test of time better than others, though
White Mountain is one of my favorite Genesis songs, its just such a strong, atmospheric and moody piece...actually, they rarely captured such a strong feeling again.
Genesis 2nd album. Definitely worth listening to.
Trespass is really a masterpiece. The music, the lyrics, the songs, the atmosphere, the balance. My favorite album, too. Not to forget, it was made in 1970. Unbelievable!
Anthony Philips seems a lovely man by the sounds of him, They all do in this interview actually.
Anthony Phillips-THE most underrated musician, perhaps of all time.
... glad Anthony Banks mentioned one of my fav bands Procol Harum as a strong band that inspired them ....
Also-Family/Traffic and King Crimson in the style and dramatic power! X
@@howardamess452 Fairport Convention get a couple of mentions too
My fave album of Genesis. Masterpiece. Shame that it didn't happen to become double.
Probably my favorite album by them. The debut is quite good, too - sort of like a Bee Gees meets Moody Blues as interpreted by Genesis.
I love this record....stunning such young musicians could affect me so deeply.
SpoonWood Gennaro these guys were 18 and 19 year olds at the time. I need to pinch myself every time I realise this, youngsters used to be so much mature back in the day, guys that age now are trying to create noise for pre pubescent schoolgirls.
These guys were 18/19 yrs old at the time, just think about that for a moment
I have....
Life did what did but for me they are always GENESIS
I missed early and middle Genesis, coming to them in '83 via Phil Collin's solo work, then the "Mama" (Genesis) album. When I learned they'd been around a while I went back to their early stuff and "Trespass" was the first "oldie" I listened to and was hooked immediately. I love every song on this album and most everything they did through "Wind & Wuthering." I like most of their later stuff, but not so inclusively.
Once your grabbed by the earlier Genesis music it never leaves you, I love nearly all Genesis except their last two studio albums but Genesis from 70s-1980 is just mind blowing and out of this world musically. My absolute favourite being selling England by the pound.
@@Eleventhearlofmars Firth of fifth
Erwin Rommel masterpiece, as is the whole album.
I happened to pass by this documentary today. And yes: It was the same experience for me, as it was for you. I think maybe Nursery Cryme was first, but nevertheless: all the old albums are all so mindblowing that probably no other band came close.
I love "Stagnation" and "The Knife", but I almost might say I consider "White Mountain" and "Dusk" to be the best tracks on the album. "White Mountain" has some beautiful melodies, lovely organ work and great lyrics. "Dusk" is just beautiful, and sounds like it came from Middle Earth.
+thewallofsleep I disagree. I consider White mountain and Dusk as their weakest songs on the album. Still good but Looking for someone-Stagnation-The Knife are the standards for this album.
Note that Tony in the interview calls Dusk almost a B side song.
+Pink Sheep to each his own. Taste is subjective.
I agree with Dusk. I love that song
I also agree with thewallofsleep. "Dusk" has always been probably my favorite moment on the album. I guess I'm in the minority in saying "Stagnation" is just ok, probably my least favorite on the album. Kind of long-winded.
I am almost always the only one who thinks " Voices of Angels " ai one of the most outstanding ones from Trespass , for his detailed sounds and arrangements well into the future .
Why does everyone one here forget " Voices of Angels " , immortal song , light years ahead of its times for arrangements and details.
LOVE Visions of Angels!
Very informative interviews of a Great album in the medieval type sense by one of my favorite Groups Genesis.I especially enjoyed Ant commenting on the making of Trespass. Wish John Mayhew could have been interviewed.Great songs on this 1st true Genesis album.
I love that album
Trespass is still one of my favourite albums by them. So good .
Este disco me hace volar
This album is so good. 😍
So true. At that time music was very segregated. We cannot underestimate what these guys, particularly Gabriel, have done to blow the doors open on what music in the world can mean.
Much appreciated!
I agree, would love to see this also !
I think Mayhew has a very personal style on drums, so overwhelming and heavy...the rhythm of bass drums and cymbals were particularly energetic, out of jazz and more attached to pop and heavy rock. I don´t think had been the same with Collins or SIlver. John was a great drummer indeed. RIP
Thanks for this
Magnificent!
OMG Mick Rutherford has turned in to Christopher Lee
Tony B also thinks Stagnation is the best song on Trespass. He has good taste ! Very intersting to listen to these interviews by the way. THANKS oquatwo !
Yes that's Phillips. he really hasn't changed in about 25+ years now oddly....
Genesis on Trespass Complete Interview 1 of 3
Love the "pretty indifferent" riff comment.
It is a dream/goal of mine 2 start an ensemble (of 5 or 6 musicians) w/a legacy as large as Genesis (either Peter or Phil era) or any other classic rock/prog rock group. I guess until then I can learn & practice the bass guitar & lead vocals simultaneously in a decent indie band that hasn't yet formulated. That would be totally choice!
Tony Banks says that Trespass was the first proper Genesis album. I think it was their best album ever. Funny that the first, From Genesis to Revelation is a total disaster. I bought it some 30-35 years ago just after having been an early Genesis fan around 1971-1973, and it sounded completely different und nonintersting. That makes their fantastic metamorphosis even greater to Trespass, Nursery Cryme etc.
@Nelson Robert Willis I like some of it.
Sadly, John Mayhew wasn't part of this interview.
Sorry Guys, but I, too, have always regarded this as their first album... but anyway, love this album as well
It IS their first proper album. GtR was more a collection of demo tapes put together by King and published by Decca, selling not more than 600 hundres copies :)

4:29 "it" is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Times
I know how you feel....
love how mike Rutherford says its first album they played live without first releasing it and that they would never do again lol...well mike you guys did do same thing 4 yrs later with The lamb album lolol
It was ok this album..some good songs but they got better later!Visions of Angels stands out to me!
Mayhem died 2009 and was virtually missing for 30 years before that.
Spanish subtitles, pleaseeee 😭
And early Floyd (Piper At The Gates),
Pre-Gilmour Pink Floyd is even more overrated than pre-Hackett/Collins Genesis. Both bands were instantly and completely transformed by the new members. I don't think Waters and Banks fully appreciate that fact.
From 2:31 Ant is talking about songs like Musical box which was present on ua-cam.com/video/S95rE5vkJP8/v-deo.html
Is that Anthony Phillips there after the 2 minute mark?
Boz Ajanovic yes talking about odious yolk for some reason lol
No it isn't ! .....it's Rodney Trotter 🤓
i get if you dont like genesis thats fine but whats the point of giving this a dislike lol
What's Jonathan King doing now ?
Time probably.
sorry but when was this released?
+67marlins 1970
thanks.
the sheperd should have been on Trespass
Please!, someone help us, spanish speakers, with spanish subtitles!!!
Is "very dificult" (As said Carlitos Tevez) follow the speachs in english.
Looking for some one!!!!!
Szkoda tego Phillipsa, że tak się stracił. Zagrać takie solo jak w "The Knife" i zniknąć bez śladu. Tego nie rozumiem.
Odious yolk?
Odious *yoke*.
indy_go_blue60 I thought he was referring to the centre of an egg lol, yoke has several meanings some biblical
