  • Ray Comfort talks with three different people, all who were raised in Mormonism. One of them, a practicing Mormon, says that he hopes he'll go to Heaven based on God evaluating the things he's done. But is this biblical? Do we just do good works and hope it's enough? Listen to what Ray Comfort says in this evangelism clip.

For anyone willing to read a bit of an essay, this is worth your time on some of what is mentioned in Ray's video. (I LOVE Ray,-- by the way--and cheered him on while watching "The Fool" documentary a while ago.)
I have done a LOT of personal study about the infamous verse found in the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 25:23) _“For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.”_
When I hear others misinterpret this verse, I hear Inigo Montoya’s voice in my head... _“You keep quoting that verse... I do not think it means what you think it means.”_
In his talk titled, "The Gift of Grace," Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf - one of the 12 Apostles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - said the following about the verse that Ray quoted in this video:
"The prophet Nephi made an important contribution to our understanding of God’s grace when he declared, 'We labor diligently … to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that _it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.'_
However, I wonder if sometimes we misinterpret the phrase 'after all we can do.' We must understand that 'after' does not equal 'because.' We are not saved 'because' of all that we can do. Have any of us done all that we can do? Does God wait until we’ve expended every effort before He will intervene in our lives with His saving grace? Many people feel discouraged because they constantly fall short. They know firsthand that 'the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.' They raise their voices with Nephi in proclaiming, 'My soul grieveth because of mine iniquities.'
I am certain Nephi knew that the Savior's grace allows and enables us to overcome sin. This is why Nephi labored so diligently to persuade his children and brethren 'to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God.' After all, _that_ is what we can do! And that is our task in mortality!"
QUESTION: Do the following scripture verses demonstrate that the “Faith and Good Works” question can’t all be solved by just quoting Ephesians 2:8?
As an exercise, let's compare a couple of Latter-day Saint verses to several Bible scripture, as follows:
#1 *Alma tells his son about being "born again."* - from the Book of Mormon
    (Alma 36:16-23)
Alma is in a state of shock and in a near coma, unable to speak or move his limbs, following an encounter with an angel who confronted him about his wickedness. After 3 days of being racked with torment, he described his experience: “while I was harrowed up by the memory of my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world. Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried within my heart: _'O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me, who am in the gall of bitterness, and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death.'_ And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memory of my sins no more. And oh, what joy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain! Yea, ...there could be nothing so exquisite and so bitter as were my pains. Yea, and again I say unto you, ...that on the other hand, there can be nothing so exquisite and sweet as was my joy. ... behold, my limbs did receive their strength again, and I stood upon my feet, and did manifest unto the people that I HAD BEEN *BORN OF GOD.*"
Another version of this story says that after “the limbs of Alma received their strength, and he stood up and began to speak unto them, bidding them to be of good comfort: ‘For,’ said he, ‘I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed of the Lord; behold *I am born of the Spirit.’* “
What “work” could Alma have possibly done while in a near coma, unable to speak, or move his limbs? He was as Saul-rebellious against Jesus-when he was overcome, and yet he wakes up and is “redeemed of the Lord” and is “born again.” How is that done other than by Alma's sincere repentance in his heart and mind, and by the Grace of Jesus and that alone? There was not any amount of “good works” that Alma could have done under those circumstances, and yet, he was saved. *Saved by Grace alone.*

And yet... how do we reconcile being “Saved by Grace alone” in comparison to these teachings from Jesus (and James)... are they all talking to non-believers? If they are talking to *believers*, then there seems to be a consequence to not following these teachings:
#2 from the Lord’s Prayer *“...forgive us our debts, AS we also have forgiven our debtors...”*
What is the experience of a believing, saved, born again, Christian who is unforgiving of others? I believe he or she is still Saved, but has much learning to do on the other side to progress through a process of forgiving others that will be harder to do than if they would have learned to forgive while here on earth. There will be some pain to suffer through for those who are not forgiving).
#3 *The Parable of the 10 Virgins*
All are believers and invited to the wedding feast, yet 5 are turned away at the door for the lack of “works”- being more prepared with oil in their lamps to receive the Bridegroom. Where was the “Saved by grace alone” for these believing Christians? What works does it take to keep oil in the lamps of the believers?
    #4 *John 6:53-54*
“Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” (referencing the symbolic, physical ordinance performed at Last Supper, and the ordinance of the Sacrament offered every week in Latter-day Saint churches).
    #5 *Baptism*
Jesus answered, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
    #6 *Repentance*
In an article from John Piper - [Founder & Teacher, desiring God org and chancellor of Bethlehem College & Seminary. For 33 years, he served as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota.], Pastor Piper quotes many of Jesus’ teachings about repentance, and then adds this commentary: _“No one is excluded from Jesus’ demand to repent. ... All need repentance. Just as all need to be born anew because 'that which is born of the flesh is [merely] flesh' (John 3:6), so all must repent because all are sinners.... ...the demand of Jesus to repent goes to all the nations. It comes to us, whoever we are and wherever we are, and lays claim on us. This is the demand of Jesus to every soul: Repent. Be changed deep within. Replace all God-dishonoring, Christ-belittling perceptions and dispositions and purposes with God-treasuring, Christ-exalting ones.”
That sounds like Jesus continues to call Born-Again BELIEVERS to repentance. Believers can sin because they can engage in God-dishonoring acts, even after their born-again experience.
So, for someone who comes to Christ (is Born Again) at age 16 and lives to age 99, based on reading John Piper’s article, is the opinion that they DON’T need to repent after age 16? And wouldn't repentance be considered *"all they can do"* ? I would say that the Latter-day Saint teachings on the matter line up well to that of John Piper and others teaching about Christ’s meaning of repentance as a 'work' that is required of all of us.
    #7 James 2: 13-18
"For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, 'Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled'; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, 'Thou hast faith, and I have works': shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."
Thank you for considering these ideas!

P.S. I found these comments, addressing the question: _“Usually James 2:14-26 is used to respond to the Protestant belief in faith alone. When a Protestant is shown these verses, what does he or she usually say? What are their common arguments?”_
These answers, (which I believe are from Protestants) align very well with Latter-day Saint beliefs when trying to understand the Grace/Faith Plus Works/Good Fruit question:
grace_singh: “I would respond that works can not save you, or reconcile you to God, as nothing we do can bridge that gap -- only Jesus can, and it is by faith and His grace we are saved, and reconciled to our Father. Yet that is not the end of it.... one doesn’t just 'believe' and then sit like a rock one’s entire life, though it seems many Protestants assume one can do this. After one has been saved and grafted onto Christ, He expects us to bear fruits as His disciples. These fruits are our works, our deeds, our attitudes, our love for others and for God in Christ’s Name. So faith without works is dead. Works can not initially save or help you, but Jesus expects them as a result of being alive in Him, and in obedience to His commandments. And He warns also that any tree which does not bear fruit will be cast into the fire. Faith without works, without discipleship, is dead. One would question whether or not that person who has 'faith' with no fruits is truly grafted onto Christ. Intellectual faith in Jesus or conceptual agreement with a creed does not equal a living, personal, dynamic faith in and relationship with Christ Jesus.”
RedBurt: “James is discussing hypocrisy: God does not want a faith that is empty and hypocritical. James 2 is talking about those who 'say' that they have faith but have no works. Therefore, people cannot tell if they are true believers or not, because there is no fruit. That kind of a faith is useless and is not a saving faith. True faith results in true works. In Matthew 19:16-17, Jesus was speaking to a Lawyer who was self-righteous since he wanted to put Jesus to the test (Luke 10:25). He asked what he must do in order to obtain eternal life and Jesus responded with the requirements of keeping the commandments. If a person keeps all of the commandments, it would seem that they could obtain eternal life. However, nobody can keep all of the commandments. Therefore, Jesus’ comments to this man show this man that justification can only be by faith since no one can keep all of the commandments. This is why it says in Eph. 2:8 that we are saved by grace through faith. Also, Romans 3:20,28 and Galatians 2:16 tells us that no one is justified in the sight of God by the law; that is, by the works that he can do. There is no contradiction at all when we examine the contexts. We are justified by faith but that faith must be alive (James 2). The Law cannot save us because we are incapable of keeping it (Matthew 19:16-17). Therefore, salvation is by grace through faith.”

You need to start at the beginning.
When you worship an 'exalted man' from another planet, you are an idolater and will not be allowed into heaven. God is not Santa Claus. God will not be mocked.
The true and living God spoke the universe into existence. God is the first, uncaused cause of everything you see. No one created God. God is eternal. God has always existed.
You will be judged on your works.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Justification, unlike sanctification, is a one time event, as in Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus. Did Paul ever sin after being born again? Of course. We know that God forgives all sin including adultery and murder.
      I John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Christ requires perfection to get into heaven.
You need the righteousness of God.
When Christ shed his blood on the cross, died and rose again, he did the one work that was necessary to reconcile us to God. Christ said, "It is finished." Our sin debt was paid in full. By simply repenting and putting my faith in Christ alone, Christ gave me his righteousness, which is the righteousness of God. God now sees me as perfected. I can walk out of God's court room free.
I Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness:
II Cor. 5:21 For God hath made Jesus to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
      Salvation is quite simple.
      Luke 18
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

When the people of Israel offered sacrifices to God, he considered the quality of the lamb which is to be offered whatever their sins are everything was forgiven. Jesus died for our sins. God considered his quality but not us. So we don't need to do anything please him. He was pleased in the beginning that we are believers now. It is only his grace. Jesus did not came here to make a religion. Salvation is for all. Religion is the big wall between God and us. Christianity is not a religion it is the fellowship with God and each other who are in christ. Jesus became poor so that we can be rich. Here poverty is the absence of the basis necessities of life that is water food clothes etc. It is God's love for us that he send his own son to save us. We hurted him so much but in turn he loved us.

      Pleasing is not loving.
God loves us all, but is not pleased with us all. We all, also Christians, have to do more than just believe.
For example: He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” -Mark 16:15

@@BenedictPetrina @AppelInNeus Yes pleasing is not loving. He is not pleased with us. But through believing in christ he looks into the christ in us . Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world - 1 John 4:4. There is none another than God who is greater in this world. So he abides in us. God is not pleased with our flesh but christ in me. I meant we do not have to do anything in our flesh. It will be out of love for our dear God. We will not be able to sit still we have so many duties to perform as we live in this world. You will not be able to do every commands of god. That's why he gave us holyspirit as his substitute. Only with him we can discover the meaning of his words. Because he is the author. The life after the birth of the inner man is the most tough one. But with christ who strengthens us it is all possible. The life in this world is a war between the flesh and the spirit. With faith in his words and the guidance of holyspirit we can win over the flesh. The decision here is only ours. Which path we will take. If we have rights we have duties also. Our God is supernatural . Do not limit him. If he can feed 5000 people and raise himself from the dead how powerful you think he is. Ofcourse he can do miracles like that in this Era too. The decision is yours . If you believe it will happen. And Christianity is not a life of poverty. We are the children hiers of the king of kings. Do you think he is going to let you live in poverty. God is going enlarge you. If God blessed Abraham we are much more than that. We are children of him. And how many times will he bless us.God lift up Joseph in front of his brothers who abandoned him. And he is going to lift you up and say this is my child. I am not saying you are wrong but this is my perspective. Hope you understood😊 and may God bless you

We do not believe we are already saved, we know the graveness of sin and the importance of repentance and the saints who are faithful HAVE taken upon them the name of Christ. We love our Savior and we believe that God’s plan is so much more than we understand, and he is much more merciful. That doesn’t mean we don’t think we need to repent and we know our good works don’t save us. But there ARE covenants and ordinances that we do need to keep and works we need to do, since God has commanded it of us. Our works only, cannot save us, but it does and is growing and strengthening the kingdom of our Father in heaven.

The term “born again” is one of the most used phrases among present-day Christians. Yet, if asked what the term born again means, most church members could not give a clear explanation. The importance of this subject is shown in what Jesus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). Jesus is saying that to be born again is to be saved. Being born again is the plan of salvation that Jesus authored at Calvary. It is imperative that we understand what is required for us to be born again!
All agree that when Jesus went to the cross, He brought in the means of salvation for everyone who will accept it. But what really happened at Calvary? What can it do for me? How do I accept what was done there in my own personal life?
At Calvary, there were three steps to the work of Christ: death, burial, and resurrection (I Corinthians 15:1-4). It is very easy to see that these three steps make up the act of being born again spoken of by Jesus (John 3:1-5); to die, to be buried, and to rise again-that is to be born again. So we see that Jesus, through His death, burial, and resurrection, bought for us the plan of being born again spoken of in John 3:3, whereby we receive salvation.
The fact that Jesus purchased a plan of salvation for us is the greatest news the world has ever received. The thing we must understand is that not only was it necessary for Jesus to do something, but also it is absolutely essential for us to act upon what He did. Jesus told Nicodemus, “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7).
Now the astonishing thing is that Nicodemus was a religious leader of his day; yet, he had no concept of what it meant to be born again! We find that the very same thing is true in the day in which we live. Many men and women who fill positions of spiritual leadership in our world have no real understanding of the born again experience. Nicodemus inquired of Jesus in John 3:4, “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”
Jesus answered, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” You can’t be born again of a woman. The second birth is a spiritual birth.
Notice that Jesus said without being born again we cannot see or enter the kingdom of God. In other words, we cannot be saved. On the day of Pentecost when Peter preached the first message after Calvary, the men cried out, “What must we do?”
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). Peter was giving them the plan of salvation: repentance, baptism, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost. If being born again is to be saved, Peter was evidently talking to them about being saved.
Remember, there were three steps to Calvary: death, burial, and resurrection. The way to accept Calvary in our individual life is to accept the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. We don’t have to literally die, be buried, and rise again. Jesus was our substitute and did this for us. All we must do is accept what He did by spiritually dying, symbolically being buried, and spiritually rising again.
      Repentance
We take on His death by repentance, which is spiritual death. When a person truly repents, he dies out to his own will, renounces it forever, and vows to live from that time on according to the will of Jesus Christ.
      Baptism
We take on His burial by baptism in water, by immersion into His name. Romans 6:4 says, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism”. Baptism must be done by immersion; for something cannot be buried by sprinkling a little dirt on top of it. That burial, after a few days, would certainly prove to be insufficient! Furthermore, every baptism of which we have biblical record was administered by immersion. That alone should determine our course of action on this matter.
      Infilling of the Holy Ghost
Finally, we partake of the resurrection of Jesus Christ by the infilling of the Holy Ghost. This is the new life that enables us to live as a Christian should.
We see then that being born again means to spiritually die-repent; symbolically be buried-baptism; and spiritually rise again-receive the Holy Ghost. Thus, in plain language an individual must repent of his sins, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ by immersion, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. It says in I John 5:8, “And there are three that bear witness in the earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.” What is the one thing in which the spirit, water, and blood agree? Is it not the new birth? Blood covers our sins at repentance; the waters of baptism wash them away, thus making us clean for the Spirit to come into our lives to dwell. When the Roman soldiers thrust the spear into Jesus’ side after He died, the scripture tells us that there came forth blood and water (John 19:34). This was for cleansing of the nations. It takes blood and water to eradicate sin. Blood is the cleansing agent, and water is the flushing agent. When a jar is washed for canning, soap AND water are necessary to cleanse that jar so that it might be filled with good fruit. Likewise, blood and water are necessary to cleanse the human soul so that it may receive the Spirit of Christ, which is the Holy Ghost. This teaching was verified by Peter when he said, “Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). Repentance and baptism are both absolutely essential for the remission of sins!
Paul taught that the three steps of Calvary is the gospel that we should preach. In I Corinthians 15:1-4 he tells us, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I have preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” Paul went on to say in II Thessalonians 1:7-8, “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Paul told us that the gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. How can we obey the death, burial, and resurrection? We obey by repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost as we have previously explained. Notice that the Lord Jesus is to appear “in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel.” It is absolutely necessary for every human being to obey the gospel by being born again. Jesus told Nicodemus, “Ye must be born again.” (John 3:7).

Mormons claim to be Christian, but they just aren't. I was raised stick Mormon and lived it for 22 years .
They believe that God was once a man and became God by "exaltation" by working his way to God hood. They also believe that you too can become a God someday by following all the Mormon commandments and going to the temple . (Which is all freemasons and Freemons worship satan, their are freemasons signs on the temples and garments, even a satanic pentagram on some earlier temples ) , they also believe that Jesus is Lucifers brother not his creator. They say Jesus is "another God " but not God incarnet . They deny the trinity as laid out in the Bible.
They believe that God is a polygamist and in order to become a God you too must be a polygamist.
They use the book of Mormon which is added scripture and in that it states you are saved "after all you can do" their 3rd article of faith states "you are saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gosple" which is in complete contradiction to Ephesians 2:8-9 " you are saved by Grace through Faith not of your works lest any man should boast"
Their is soooo much more , but to cover the basic and most important, they have a different God, different Jesus and different way to salvation than is lined out in the Bible. This is why they say they need the book of Mormon because things got changed and it just not true. God's word is TRUE and unchanging. The other thing that alarms me so much with them is the belief that they will become gods one day and have their own planet to be god over.
Now one doesn't have to think very hard to recall where we heard these same things before, It was satan in the garden. Even I am moved by every person who decides that right now is the moment for them to accept the Gospel! It is awesome to see. It must be even greater to experience it first hand.
The important thing to understand is though... once you accept the gospel you can't go back... It is meant to be a permanent change... Of course we are still in the flesh and the flesh has it's filthy desires etc... But through the gospel our spirits are renewed and thus we are able to put down the desires of the flesh! This becomes a daily and conscious task that we need to be cognizant about! Something a proper christian church or congregation of believers can help with... Because on our own we are being setup for failure... again...! Going to church helps to remind us about who we are in the flesh and what Christ has done for us... I find that when we skip church often, especially when it becomes a habit of skipping church, we begin to fall into the clutches of the devil, again! Of course, there are churches and churches, many of them preaching straight up apostasies, so it can be difficult to find a genuine christian church. I wonder if Pastor Ray could point out some good denominations that are genuine...

I don't know if maybe these people in the video didn't think about it or if if was cut out, I really don't know. Our church for a few years has had this thing called "Come Follow Me" where it is more of a home centered teaching deal to have with Church, then you can have actual in person Church, then things like seminary and institute. This year, our church is focusing in a lot on the old testament. You should maybe check through our lessons and see what we're learning right now. I noticed a lot of things you said about stuff like the 10 commandments is stuff that we believe in. I really really do and try to live by it, yet you used some stuff like that to put down the LDS Church which I really don't understand.

Just to clarify, we are not a cult. We love our Father, our Savior Jesus Christ, and we love the BIBLE as well. God never said he was finished. He said nothing could be added to the BIBLE, but God had other people record their history. Please read the Book of Mormon, even if it is for the purpose to try and prove us wrong. I know that book is a true record and that it is another testament of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please at least pray about it? When you read it, you will then understand why we do the things we do, and say the things we say.
Remember that we are not wiser than God and we cannot fit him into a box that we don’t even fully understand or can comprehend. His plan for us is SO much more than we, with our limited understanding, could ever imagine. I don’t know who you are, but I love you and I’ll pray for you. Please, please read it. If you read it all, with an open and prayerful heart, it WILL change your life. I promise you that.

Google search the definition of cult and it says "a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object" and "a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing". You still meet once a week in remembrance of the resurrection of Christ, you still partake of communion in remembrance of his flesh and blood. All you did was leave one cult for another cult. All Christian denominations are cults.
The Catholics claim to have gotten their priesthood from Peter and passed on till today. The Protestants were excommunicated from them and would therefore have lost their priesthood authority. So the question is where then do they get their priesthood authority from then? Do they have any? If not you are not saved.
Latter day saints claim Peter James and John were sent back as resurrected angels and ordained Oliver and Joseph as Apostles. So literally the only churches that have an argument are Catholics or latter day saints. You've been deceived.

@The Last Decade 2020-29 The Book of Mormon claims to contain "the fullness of the everlasting gospel", but what it ACTUALLY contains is a confusing pretzel. It says if you worship Christ with all your mind, might, and strength, and your whole soul--do this so you will not be cast out. But then it adds that you should ALSO keep the commandments & ordinances of the Mosaic law. Then it says some people are marked & cursed forever...unless they repent. And others will be blessed and their seed forever...unless their seed turns away. (Forever...unless? So...NOT forever.) And tens of thousands of souls were sent (by the edge of the sword) into the eternal world where they would reap their rewards according to their works. So, not faith in the work of Christ, but their own works. According to the Apostle Paul, "By the deeds of the law shall NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED in [God's] sight...for ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God." -Romans 3:20,23 So everybody went to hell then?
Additionally, you cannot be saved when you have yielded yourself to become subjects of the devil, and you are not found guiltless if you have any envy at all in your heart, or if you mock or persecute your fellowman. Unless you repent...but then you also have to bring forth works of righteousness to avoid being thrown into the fire.
The conditions to be saved are claimed to be very simply explained beyond all questioning, and they pointedly include at least these 5 things: (1) receiving God's image in your countenance, (2) having a mighty change in your heart, (3) exercising faith in the redemption of the creator, (4) look forward to the day you are raised up into immortality to make an account to God, and (5) have exercised works of righteousness upon the face of the earth. However, this leaves me (personally) with LOTS of questions, such as: if the Only Begotten of the Father has come to take away the sins of the world, why are my sins still being held against me--I steadfastly believe on his name...of course, what this actually entails is not mentioned... And why do my righteous works need to be figured into the equation, if the prophet Isaiah was correct when he said: "All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags." Why would God be interested in my filthiness? Also, can ANY Mormon truly claim that their heart has been stripped of ALL ENVY? Or that they NEVER MOCK their fellowman? Mormons I have talked to are so quick to give themselves (as a gesture of grace to all of mankind) a pass by saying: "Well, nobody is perfect--I don't claim to be perfect." But it would seem this is the WORST thing they could say. Their Mormon Gospel explicitly, repeatedly calls for 100% perfection in order to ensure salvation. Without it, their blue book is clear: "YOU CANNOT BE SAVED." If your soul is filled with guilt, remorse, and a remembrance of your wickedness, "Ye will know at that day that ye cannot be saved." So, guilt & remorse = bad. (But isn't that what brings us to true repentance?)
Next up: those who commit whoredoms shall be thrust down to hell. How many Mormon guys are addicted to porn? How many of them (especially in singles wards) are lusting after the ladies in their churches? Didn't Jesus teach that to look upon a woman with lust was the same as committing adultery with her in your heart?
The pretzel continues... You are saved by grace, but that's AFTER all you do all you can do. God doesn't work among men unless they have faith, but isn't faith a gift from God? (Look, if God is not going to be the initiator, then he has/will NEVER work among men, because we can't muster up faith to get him going.) Also, entering in at the "narrow gate" of salvation doesn't mean you have salvation. You are relying wholly upon his merits, but not really, because then you have to stay on the narrow path by doing at least 6 things: (1) remaining steadfast in Christ (whatever that means, because apparently it doesn't mean...), (2) having a perfect brightness of hope, (3) a love of God, (4) a love of all men, (5) feasting upon the Word of Christ (but not really, because it is a lesser testament, right?), and (6) enduring to the end. Nephi told his congregants that they were to feast on the Word of Christ, but since Christ would not actually come for another (almost) 600 years, they might have been in trouble.
Moreover, you are a fool if you think you have all of God's Word on any given subject (this must include salvation). Even though God never changes, apparently in his explanation of how spiritual things work he reserves the right to tell us in small doses. Although God always spoke through his ancient covenant people the Jews, ultimately he plans to speak portions of his word to all nations of the earth, and they will share it around to the rest. I guess you'll just have to wait on knowing God and whether your salvation is secure until every nation gets a Prophet. (Since 100% of the Mormon Prophets have been American so far, this may take a while.) That's okay, you can try praying that God will consecrate the works you do toward the welfare of your soul. Even though he saves people based on faith, not works, in all of his historical dealings with people, you should pray anyway. Neither Jews nor Gentiles have any hope unless they: (1) are reconciled to Christ, (2) enter into the narrow gate, (3) walk in the straight path, and (4) continue in the path until the end. This is purported to be a very plain, simple process (by the writers of the Book of Mormon) that you should easily understand...but is anybody else totally bewildered? Silly us to fall prey to such a "common misconception" that Mormons believe that their works save them, right? "Eternal life comes to those who keep the commandments after baptism." That is VERY PLAIN indeed. How could we misconstrue or misapprehend something so plain as that to mean: "We obtain salvation by our good works"? Silly us.
As for the gospel that Jesus taught: it is much more succinct and clear than all of that:
I am the way, the truth, and the light. No man cometh unto the Father but by me. (John 14:6)
These [signs that Jesus did] are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31)
Repent ye, and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:15b)
Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:3b)
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (John 10:9)
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28)

@@gregorjerman973 Thanks for your encouraging words! Really I was just setting out to make sure "Last Decade's" words were understood rightly. "The Gospel" presented in the Book of Mormon (as I have read it recently) was largely expressed in the 1st person by the writers of Alma & 2 Nephi. While it may mention Jesus, it wasn't a match with the Gospel preached *by* Jesus (about the kingdom & repentance), and it wasn't the Gospel preached *about* Jesus either (concerning belief & eternal life). It's just another re-skin of the same old snake: work your way to heaven. This time they were clever enough to make it "familial" in nature, so it has hung around longer.
It's important to me that the OP (and anyone who reads her comment) hear the truth that: while the Book of Mormon makes a claim to contain the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it does NOT in fact deliver on its promise. It is "another gospel" indeed. Believe whichever Gospel you choose, but at least observe the differences!
The other observation I made in my study was this: It's very easy to see that someone with a complete King James Bible had borrowed heavily from it--sort of copy/pasting phrases into it when writing the narrative of the Book of Mormon. (Not surprisingly, they still teach the Bible through a copy/paste approach which voids all context & original meaning.) It is an exact implementation of the phrase: "having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof." Like a stolen ancient artifact on display in a western museum, it is robbed of much of its impact, its message, and its relevance by being transported into another prefabricated context. (But that's plagiarism for you!)
I believe Mormonism still survives today for 4 reasons:
      1) Mainline Christianity is largely ignorant of what the Book of Mormon contains.
      2) Mormons are themsleves largely ignorant of what the Bible teaches.
      3) Mormonism is a religion that places no value on proof or substantiation. When you message Mormons on UA-cam they never answer your objections. Why is this, we wonder? Well, Mormons generally swallow things they know are not right--they find ways to believe it or explain it away or ignore it. They perfect this reflex through regular repetition, until it's normal to them. So when you come to them with: forged Egyptian papyri and proof of false prophecies and awareness of what a predator/pedophile Joseph Smith was, and genetic proof against "Jewish Native Americans", they just keep pitying you, swallowing the lie, looking the other way, making excuses for how it's probably all just a big misunderstanding... If they can manage to mentally pigeonhole you as "Anti-Mormon" their reflex will kick-in and they can ignore your points & hard evidence altogether.
Their spiritual blindness is inculcated into them--it's really "spiritual blinding" and they just sit there and let their leaders jab their sight out. (Romans 1:20-23) I have heard this now many times from people who leave the cult. They have to reprogram their thinking afterward to delete that reflex.
      4) Lastly, a true believer will NOT fall away from "the two-fold grip of grace" (in John 10: 27-29) by "converting" to a lie. So, God uses this "ISM" as a culling tool to demonstrate which believers are truly his.
      (See: II Timothy 2:19 & I John 2:18-19)

The differences between the initial printed version of 1830, to the 1964 edition, the Book of Mormon went through 3,913 more changes. In 1986, LDS President Ezra Taft Benson denied there were any Book of Mormon changes, when he claimed:
“Unlike the Bible, which passed through generations of copyists, translators, and corrupt religionists who tampered with the text, the Book of Mormon came from writer to reader in just one inspired step of translation.” (The Book of Mormon-Keystone of Our Religion, Ensign, Nov 1986, p. 4)
Changes were made to the Book of Mormon after Joseph Smith changed his doctrine from Monotheism to Polytheism.
Here are just a few examples:
1830 original and the edition1837 and subsequent editions:
    1830:
1 Nephi 11:18 And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin which thou seest is the mother (of God)after the manner of the flesh.
    1837
1 Nephi 11:18 And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of( the Son of God,) after the manner of the flesh.
also added the words “the Son of” to other verses in the 1837 version:
“… And I looked and beheld the Lamb of God, that he was taken by the people; yea, the Everlasting God, was judged of the world …” (I Nephi 11:32, 1830 edition)
    Became:
“… And I looked and beheld the Lamb of God, that he was taken by the people; yea, the son of the Everlasting God, was judged of the world …” (I Nephi 11:32, 1837 edition)
    And:
“… that the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father and the Saviour of the world …” (I Nephi 13:40, 1830 edition)
    Became:
“… that the Lamb of God is the son of the Eternal Father and the Saviour of the world …” (I Nephi 13:40, 1837 edition)
People reading the first edition of the Book of Mormon are led to believe that Jesus Christ is,
    “the Eternal Father”
    and,
    “the Everlasting God.”
Later versions, where the words, “the son of” were inserted before titles of God, clearly changed the meaning of those verses.
The church made changes to the Book of Mormon to soften its racism:
    1830 original edition 1981 edition
    1830:
2 Nephi 30:6 And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a(white) and a delightsome people.
    1981:
2 Nephi 30:6 And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a (pure) and a delightsome people.

The very last words of Our Lord while on the cross were: "Father in thy hands I commend My Spirit". The words of Jesus: "Consumatum est" ("It is finished") preceded the very last last.
"The Seven last words of Our Lord" is a Catholic Church meditation.
Our Lord's seven last words on the Cross:
    1. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” - Luke 23:34
    2. “Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise.” - Luke 23:43
    3. “Woman, behold thy son; son behold thy Mother” - John 19:26
    4. “My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” - Mark 15:34
    5. “I thirst.” - John 19:28
    6. “It is finished.” - John 19:30
    7. “Father, into Thy hands I commend My spirit.” - Luke 23:46

I think the gentleman in the suit was listening more sincerely, than the other two. I think the other two were 'no takers', but we can only hope they will change before judgement day.

I would appreciate it if you would stop calling out "Hey Mormons!!" We have names. Mine is Annie. We are not offended by being called Mormons. Mormon was a prophet. He wrote one of the books in the Book of Mormon. His son Moroni wrote the final book in the Book of Mormon. That is why we are called Mormons. We are Latter Day Saints (LDS). 😊😊
