- One of our followers asked us to make a video on how to secure a motorcycle on a trailer. So while working on getting my Indian Springfield to the dyno shop I figured, why not!

Good video. I don't leave the kickstand down. If you hit a bad dip in the road or bump, when your bike suspension compresses, it can bend or weaken your kick stand. ;)
The bike is straight up and down so the kick stand is hovering an inch or two above the ground.
Thanks Brian, I don't ratchet the bike down on its side stand " the bike upright" I'm thinking about getting the custom tie down brackets, or just ride it, you two stay safe.
Hey Brian, you know how you can tell you're getting good at this? When you can take a fairly mundane subject like tying down motorcycles to haul, and make an interesting and entertaining video out of it. Now not to diminish the subject matter, as this is important, but the excitement level is somewhere up there with watching grass grow, and you did a real good job with it. Keep up the great work.
It’s a public service, not much entertainment value for sure but hopefully someone will get some useful information out of it.

I catch crap from people on this video all the time LOL, “do it this way or that way” but this works for us. Sadly though wrapping the straps around the fork boogers up the cheap chrome strips on Barbara’s front fender.
Looks good. I would suggest added a block of wood 6x6 under the frame whatever fits your bike with 1/2 inch clearance and ratchet the frame down then retighten all the straps again. That keeps the suspension from moving and any straps from loosing. Also no fatigue on the suspension parts.

Great video Brian, but I have one concern. It seems all 4 straps are just pulling the bike into the wheel chock. In the event of a sudden or panic stop, you have nothing holding the rear of the bike tightly to the floor of the trailer, or to keep it moving from side to side. That is a lot of weight being held by the chock only. I would imagine this would work for short distance, but not cross country. Just an observation.

when I started researching for my own knowledge i figured id have straps going in opposite directions, same as you are suggesting. But everyone I;ve talked to says to pull the bike into the chock, it is not going to jump it no matter what. I've trailered those bikes to the Black hills and CO from FL with no issues.

Thanks for replying. If it works, don't fix it. I have seen so many different methods, that it's hard to know what works the best.
Nice wk B.. but i always think it puts to much pressure on the stand plus bouncing on it etc.. as i have had 2 stands need replacing..
How much of a difference after the dyno? My local dealer actually says not worth it. Any feed back is greatly appreciated. Awesome bikes you have.
Still no Dyno run yet. Argh. This week!

Great job buddy, Good info if I ever have to haul the my bike. I see I made mistakes in where to tie down and how to tied down, but that was with my other bike. Now, I know, but the video is missing one very important part. The cameo of the Beautiful Ms Barb. ;-)

I keep hearing about people busting their fork seals by ratcheting on the handle bars, but I trailered my bike from the east coast to the west coast & back, with no issues. I worry about damaging the fender securing it the way displayed in the video. Wondering if anyone's ever hurt their fender this way before ?

It’s funny you mention that about the strap covers because YES they are actually critical in protecting the finish on the chrome. I know this because when I don’t adjust them properly the straps do rub and scratch the chrome. I got those on Amazon for about $75 for a set of four straps with a handy carry bag.

I would add a third chock in the center for the times I carrying one bike. But that's just me.

Never had an issue. It’s either that or compress the Springs. 🤷🏻♂️ can’t use the highway bars because the straps can slip. I don’t have all the answers, it’s just what I do.

Where we live? We live in Central Florida, a lot of big oak trees around here.
Do you let the bike rest on the kick stand as you travel? Or do you stand the bike straight up, but with the kick stand down, in case it leans over to the left?

Question 4 u, for long cross country hauls, which im planning, do u think putting something on the bike to protect the paint would be a good idea? Like what? Im worried debris of little rocks might scratch up my bike.. Thanks!
i mean it doesnt hurt but Ive never done it. Ive trailered those bikes over 12k miles and never had any real damage that i can point to. i hate that they get dirty as hell back there on the trailer but i dont want an enclosed trailer. I think you;ll be fine either way.

I wouldn't put anything on it because if the wind loosens your cover it will rub back and forth on your paint and it will rub off the paint.
How do you secure the front end of you don’t have a wheel chock?
It has a wheel chock but it’s not a locking wheel chock. I just ride it up in there put the KS down and start ratcheting the straps.
Is that trailer max out on the weight with two bike on it.
Pretty sure the max weight on that thing is 2500lbs so we're just under that. FWIW we bought it used on CL for $1500 and have put about 10k miles on it, not all by us. All we've done to it is replace the bearings and add the center tie down points.

Question do you get a tappet sound from your engine. The Indian dealer here said it's a common complaint but it's normal.
They do make a little bit of valve or lifter noise, I think it’s pretty much a known quantity.
what's the size of your trailer? I know the Springfield is just over 8 feet (mine has the valenced front fender which adds a few inches to the overall length) and I'm wondering if I need to get the 10ft trailer or if the 8 foot will work.
Hey Andrew, it’s 8ft long and 6.5 wide (between the wheel wells). The bike hangs over the back by an inch or two but the angle of the ramp allows easily.

Brian, do you put the kickstand up after tying the bike down? If not, doesn’t it wear on the trailer?
@@jameszee7585 I have accidentally left it down but SOP is to raise it after the bike strapped. I do put it down before I unstrap it then i loosen the straps just a tiny bit on the KS side to reduce the tension. Then i slowly undo the straps on the opposite side and the straps pull the bike gently towards the KS and it settles down easliy
