Another Carly sponsorship, another day for me to remind people that as useful as it may be, Carly is a subscription service with a scanner attached, not just an OBD scanner.
If you want a name brand one that can actually be used without the subscription, get a Carista instead. Does all the same coding stuff that you get with Carly, but the adaptor is still able to be used with other OBD apps. And it's high enough quality to work properly with apps like Hybrid Assistant or Dr Prius
Ok as an owner of several….prop shaft will need upgrading £800 , boot lid struts £120, brake pedal strut £10, window regulators £20 each, and brake sensors £19 …keep the drains clear that’s vital to stop electrical issues. But they’re really strong and great fun straight piped!!
DO NOT BUY A CARLY READER!! I did and regret it. It stopped working after a couple of months - I contacted support - they asked me some troubleshooting questions and then completely ghosted me. Multiple emails ignored - then they just closed the ticket. Pointless.
@@richardnicholls9569 I believe that carly here doesn't really was at fault her. Most of those devices are made to work mainly on canbus readings, and some of those oldy cars, can still use K-lines, which cannot be read properly by just the modern canbus reader. I have chinese xentry with openport, It has zero problems with cars newer than 2007/2008 but it can fail at the older ones, just because my open port reads only canbus data, and not k-line stuff. (Which of course, the original hardware, does read perfectly fine, but thats another thing)
Carly is slightly misleading - its a subscription-based service and if you didn't know that you might think that you're paying a one-time fee for the OBD reader and program. Only until you add the item to your cart and ready to pay do you find out you'll be paying yearly.
I'd replace "slightly misleading" to "slightly scammy" - I paid for the coding subscription for my Lexus - it never worked - then 3 months into my subscription they disabled it because they "couldn't support Lexus anymore" - I had 9 months left, but they refused to refund me for something that never worked and they withdrew. Basically theft in my opinion - but they are based in Germany & have a no refund policy in their T&C's so I have no recourse. More fool me I guess, but I'll be bitter about it to my grave so every time I see some UA-camr shilling for them, I'll tell my story.
The idea behind this video is actually genius, it seems boring, but we've unknowingly needed a video just like this for years; buy an old car, take it to the manufacturer and ask for it's health, what kind of problems did the car develop since first factory sale?
Matt how cool is’ Lewis’. What a personality. Love this format. He’s so unassuming yet some cool throw aways re the mileage (re winding it back) etc. great vibe👍
Also, carly costs 65$/ year to do the same as something you would otherwise pay 100 for lifetime, if you buy the "good ones", or 20$ if you buy a mediocre one. That being said, I love carly's marketing
If you clear the codes and the issue is still there it wont just disappear. He literally showed that the two error codes were still there after clearing them because the problem is still there.
Had one of these (first generation, bought for always nothing) 3 years old, low mileage, in Florida and re-imported it to Germany. Has been a realiable towing donkey for many years. Sold it with nearly 200.000miles on the odo, still working w/o problems. Only had to replace the propeller shaft once (at more than 115.000 mils) and replaced the old satnav with an Android one. One of the best cars I've ever owned. Beware of the case of the ICUs in the engine compartment (sometimes the develop cracks on the underside that let humidity in) and have an eye on the coolant tubes in the V of the engine. Original they had been plastic (and had a tendency to fail), the late models got those made of aluminum. But good value for money, congrats Mat!
This type of video is so much more watchable and interesting than the usual ‘I bought a new cayenne thats 150k’, nobody gives a shit about the new stuff, it’s all quite boring. I’ve owned one of these Grate car, can be run fairly economically if you are willing to self maintain the car, like servicing and moderate repairs. But the only issue my one had was the cruise control would not work. But never let me down. At the moment I’m running a Saab 95 2007 that’s done around 200,000 miles and still going strong. But am in the market this year to get a much newer car and probably going for something like a bmw x5 d30
