I'm seriously expecting a mopey, minor key, vocal fry laden cover of "Shiny Happy People", "Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows", or Ren & Stimpy's "Happy Happy Joy Joy" song in a trailer once of these days, if it hasn't already happened. I absolutely abhor that trope in trailers. It's like nails on a chalkboard every time (all due respect to the artist who did the "You Spin Me Round" cover in this video).

This trailer is the change. Before the 2000's trailers were not like this or like a lot of modern ones. Trailers did change, but unfortunately the change made them go from artsy and mysterious and original to cookie cutter templates or have every major plot point ruined or even the ending in it.

1. Upbeat music.
2. Introduce characters and what they're doing in their lives.
3. Upbeat music quickly stops.

5. Music starts up again.

Ok so I saw the movie Stockholm’s trailer and it’s very basic. Upbeat music introduce the bank robber then boom music stops and he’s doing something funny while talking about the person on the ground and then the musics back

And then after they’ve shown when it comes out, etc, then another clip of one of the characters making some funny remark that’s probably the best you’ll get in the movie.

The Rock won't appear until the sequel. While FILM TITLE performs well enough internationally to get a sequel greenlit, the producers will take no chances, adding him to the cast of FILM TITLE: VAGUE & WEAK SEQUEL SUBTITLE. They'll need him since both ACTOR and A-LIST ACTOR aren't returning.

Movies didn't always do that BWAA thing constantly. It really got started with Inception. And it's a misunderstanding: in Inception the reason you kept hearing the BWAA was because the music playing beside the character's bodies was slowed down with each dream-layer they descended. By the time you get down a few layers, a couple notes and rests will take up an entire scene and sound like a giant BWAA instead of like music. But now in movies it's just the sound that plays when "big VFX happen". Like the call of a red-tailed hawk when looking up or down a long outdoor drop.

if I ran a movie studio, I'd have this format for every one of my trailers. Same shots for actors, same VFX scenes (i'll reuse them; not making a new shot just for the movie) and the same font
the reason is that even though this has become a trope, if I did that, it would become super memeable. You'd only need somebody with a few minutes of time and adobe photobucket to make a "scene by scene" comparison and lots of people will trend my movie in exchange for feeling smug about making fun of it.
And the movie itself will be just as formulaic because formulas work and make profits.
