Great channel, just found it via the Christmas day episode. Always been a gamer, but it was only during lockdown that I started to appreciate repair videos, but I've now moved on from the zen fantasy repairs that used to fill youtube, and I now enjoy channels like yourself that give a true reflection of the repairs process and how things don't always go to plan!
I used to love your switch videos but these ps5 are my new favourite. You are turning into the master of fixes now too, its very rare you have no fixes! Think your my favourite repair channel now! Thanks for the great content!
Your name has come up with the public finally becoming aware of potential issues with the liquid metal in PS5’s. It’s always nice for the casuals to see what internal repairs look like. Btw, happy new year Coder
@@marcbilaszewski3521 if you had watched the explanation or understood it, your statement is not true, however as he has updated, it's not a widespread issue, its just to make people aware
@@microgamingrepairs1981 it is true lol that seal doesn’t just break and leak unless it’s been tampered or damaged with . It’s either that or a heating issue and in that case then people need to stop leaving them inside cabinets
I would say it was likely that the original ssd controller had a micro fracture on one of the bga balls, probably a data line to the actual ssd chips. A reflow may have proven that and if so, then you could reball the original and refit. I have a ps5 with an odd situation whereby it will take a factory reinstall and reinstall of firmware from usb stick, but when navigating the system menu, it will simply reset/restart - have you experienced this before? Keep up the great work, it's been fascinating to watch you learn and improve your skills throughout the year and your bga rework skills make me jealous. 😀
Hey, just wondering how much you charge to fix a couple of light issues on an old ps2? I stripped and tried fixing myself but doing so i broke a ribbon connector.
Very nice job. A lot of people are going paying attention to this. For the SSD's, 660GB free out of 1TB. Honestly don't know either if that's normal as it could be part of the OS and have 300gb or more in partitions i.e recovery, diagnostics etc. so it may be safer to leave it alone. Then again if it's fubared one of the SSD chips only half the free storage could be showing but then it wouldn't boot at all if I'm going by previous vids
As long as the SSD NAND chips are exactly the same I can't see there being an issue swapping them over. At the end of the day all they're only NAND flash chips to store 1's & 0's on, it's the controller chip that would have any kind of security on them and be an issue and you've proved that not to be an issue so as long as the NAND flash chips are the same or ones known to work with that exact controller I can't see it not working!
Yeah I agree mate. From what I can tell these things run in some sort of striped RAID0 (or maybe a custom similar method). I did replace one on this same stream (part two coming soon) and after a reinstall it worked fine
@@TheCod3r I thought that'd be the case. The only issue you're going to get is that the controller doesn't know what's what and where on the new NAND flash & will look corrupted to it so it'll prompt to re-install the firmware due to SSD corruption which is then simple, mostly!
Awesome job, man! What made you change the SSD controller instead of the SSD chips themselves? And if you changed, the SSD chips themselves do you think it would have accepted it or is an SSD married to it's board?
It’s always the same the ssd controller die prematurely…..but the SSD CHIPS ARE OK. Sony should take in account that issue for next model, and I think is for the overheating the controller, I think that’s need more cooler
Rs pro lead free solder is a good option if you don't want to buy kester expensive stuff. Seem to work ok. Still not as good as kester buy works for me quite well.
Hi Phil, thanks for ur good work as always cos you’ve really shared a lot with the community. Av got this exact problem on a ps4 fat edition and don’t know wat could be the cause..can you shed more light on that for ps4?
awesome ... this is a breakthrough... cool that you even can change one ssd ic. hopefully microsoft will provide in future a possibility to change the ssd. i think that will come. currently most of the ssd are working if more and more ssd start to fail maybe ms will update the os... good job ;)

Those stencils work great, no faffing around with them moving on you. Certainly a great investment for your business.
Indeed mate, certainly a time saver
Nice work phil as usual sharing/spreading knowledge thanks mate!
Cheers mate
I would replace the NAND chips purely for research purposes.
I'm kinda surprised the SSD controller isn't locked to the SoC/Motherboard of each unit.
Seeing that paste go from a “paste” to melted solder balls was rather satisfying to say the least 😅
Nice to see someone else cut the wick in to little bits instead of using it whilst it's still on the roll
