Sorry about the long black tunnel at the end! It should be removed once UA-cam finishes processing the edit! Edit: Should be all fixed! Beware of long tunnels!
After looking at the new Microsoft Flight Simulator over the last few days, I'm wondering how possible would it be to have a train game that has the entirety of the UK as a playable area. Or the entire US. All these train tracks have to be stored in some sort of database for the IRL train companies to use. Kinda like how MSFS 2024 uses real world data to place cargo ships in their real-time locations.
Not possible. Unlike MSFS, you are up close and personal with the details of the track and terrain for the entirety of the journey. It's a lot of manual crafting and placing of asserts. And while information like signal spacing, track length, gradient etc is stored, that's only the most basic information required to put a route together. Then there's the dispatching, timetable etc...
I would love to see something like this but the Requirements would be massive considering MSFS is a expense game to buy if you was to start from the ground up for the specs. another point as well although MSFS is kinda to real-life scale it isn't compared to a Driving game such as a new truck or train simulator that could model the entire UK and too scale so it would but also wouldn't be possible. The closest to this for Train simulator would probably be the Just Trains Western Mainlines route which the longest possible distance on one scenario would be London Paddington to Penzance. I think there is also a another example of a route long this that is London to Edinburgh. hope this helps.
@@blueb0g It's very possible, it's just a major, expensive undertaking and unlike MSFS, it doesn't have the player base to justify the investment of either time or money. I hope to see a digital tourist simulator eventually that would allow users to visit anywhere in the world using virtual modes of transportation as well as walking, eg; take a plane to London, hop on a train to Paris and rent a car to visit the Eiffel Tower and walk around it. - all virtually.
@@blueb0g It's possible. In fact, MSTS 2 was planned to have World of Rails - the entire railway network of the world! And that was in 2009! DTG doesn't want to do it because they want to sell routes that take 30 mins on average to travel end-to-end.
"You can do it in photoshop in post...", Made me chuckle, that's heavy criticism right there! The casual gamer isn't going to have a 250 dollar subscription to Photoshop! 😃
Euston wasn't realistic, needed an option to not give any information and show advertisments instead. Then announce the platforms late and have a slow and laborious ticket check while shouting at Passengers and ignoring those with disabilities even though they have told you in advance.
Euston is like an airport. I've literally never been to any other station where you're not even allowed on to the platform until your train is "boarding". It's a mad scrum, there's a dangerous crush at the gates, no queuing... hate it. And you only have ten minutes before it all shuts down again.
I kinda wish that they start with a sim, then lay endless amounts of track, add locomotives, freight and pax scenarios and connect the entire world in one single game and with an updated graphics engine
Not possible on a technical level and computers and consoles would start melting. They also don't have the tech or ai to build endlessly. They don't have every single license either

He's right. The features we were promised in this release such as track shadow fixes and conductor mode only apply to the new routes. Add to that the existing reported bugs that aren't fixed plus the new bugs introduced, it's not worth it.
One of my favourites so far, if you load up a scenario where its snowing then open the camera the snow vanishes and it turns to a clear sunny day. Noticed on E2G the Class 385 stopping half way along the platform so the rear doors are off the platform. Noticed on WCML a class 710 stopped inside the buffers. Just feels like an excuse to release a new game rather than update what we ready have and fix the bugs we complained about.
Many years ago I was joing to my friends about someone making a train simulator. It seemed like such a silly thing to do. What's to simulate about mode of transport which can only stop or go... lol. Oh well here we are! At least now we can be a conductor and check the peeps on the train. I wonder if it'll start complaining if you, say, only check the black peeps :) The stations look pretty cool I have to say.. I hope that one day there will be a sim in which you can drive trains, cars, bikes, trucks, fly planes and everything else in something that looks as good as MSFS 2024.. I could go for that! Especially multiplayer could be fun in such a multisim :) btw the pax aren't very realistic. In reality, all they watch from the start to the finish of their journey is their phone.
