In my opinion, instead of making the salad, use big chunks of crab to put in the egg so it sticks out than put the ingredients of the salad on top. I think it’s looks better and tastes AMAZING 🤩.
And we certainly have needed some smiles this past year! No politics, and some really useful recipes presented with humor. I don't even like to cook or entertain, but I love Chef John's videos.
Chef John - you are a treasure and a savior! During this quarantine I have been binge watching your channel and I have to tell you; you sir, have been keeping me both sane and excited to try new and unique dishes - from Tortaflette to Chicken Fried Steak to Dumplings to Crab Stuffed Deviled Eggs. From the bottom of my heart I say, 'Thank You'. Your combined knowledge of cooking and your dry humor are perfection. You really truly are a pleasure to watch, and I have learned an incredible amount from your channel. If you are interested, I have two family recipe's - the first which my grandmother developed, and the second which my mother created, which are both amazing comfort dishes, and I'd be honored to share them with you so that others can enjoy their simplicity and succulence during these hard pressed times. Totally your call; after all, you are the maker of dishes, from food wishes. God bless you, sir! Keep doing what you do!
I usually boil eggs for 7 minutes (with the heat going on) and they come out perfect everytime. No green/blue rings. Can't wait to try this recipe out!
true story: On my phone looking up different types of crab meat, heard "eggs start to twerk", looked up very quickly, paused the video, busted out laughing. Chef John *shakes head slowly* you funny funny man.
How cool, I just made deviled eggs for the first time yesterday! I'm definitely trying this recipe today...my mom just loved the ones I made yesterday, she's been asking me to make more all morning!
It’s a Meyer lemon - a cross breed of a citron and a mandarin , originated in China ... the most delicate and fragrant of all citruses... It’s being sold all over the USA , even , in rural places , you can place an order on-line through the Walmart... However, a few drops of blended juices of a lemon/orange or a grapefruit/clementine will get you a necessary flavors ‼️ 🍋🌳🍊
You have a great voice for this line of work! I was thoroughly entertained throughout this video! i will definitely be watching more and trying some of the recipes! (Just not this one... Husband is allergic to shellfish... ) But the 17 minute method WILL be used when I boils eggs next!
great idea. I use to cook them boild them 3 min. cover and let stand for 7 or 8 min. cover w/ cold water drain, then peel them under cold water. I like your recipe. Thank you.
Wow a nice add to deviled eggs, gotta try this recipe, like the idea of making with cavier, lobster, nice white fish like flounder with the Dungeness Crab.
When i was young, my grandma made a version of deviled eggs topped with shrimp. I really like most food and i expected to love this...I decided to eat an entire half, I happened to eat one right in front of her. I have never had such a gag reflex triggered by food, something just did NOT work! From that day on, i swore off seafood with deviled eggs. That is until i saw this, Looks amazing!
Hands down my fav foodie to go to. Yer an amazing chef but lets face it they are a dime a dozen on youtube these days. But you are funny as shiitake and i love your style of humor. Its why I only watch your channel.... well now and then Ramsey and Laura in the Kitchen. Your dry wit is awesomesauce.
this looks absolutely amazing...and I am not a deviled egg fan at all. This recipe has inspired me to try them once again...I am intrigued ...wondering how blackened OLD BAY would work?
There are so many great ways to make crab in an appetizer or snack :) We just made a cream cheese and crab snack that's amazing! Cannot wait to try this recipe
I like your videos they're informative with a hint of entertainment. The only problem I have is I get so damn hungry watching these. BTW I'm trying your prime rib technique on xmas. I've never cooked a prime rib but after watching your video I have the confidence I won't mess it up too much LOL. Anyhow have a great holiday...
I have not boiled eggs on the stove in years. I bake them, in the oven. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Place x-number of eggs in muffin pan, and bake at 350 degrees, for 30 minutes. Remove from muffin pan, and place, (for 10 minutes), in an ice bath. Perfect hard "boiled" eggs each and every time. The eggs, may have light, brown spots on the shell, but this disappears in the ice bath. I have also found, the eggs are very easy to peal, using the oven method.
Love this video and the presentation and CRAB!! Who doesn't love crab? Well, except those who may be allergic to shellfish. This was amazing and I love your enthusiasm! New subscriber and this is a must try =)
I use the 12 minute method these days. Bring the water to a full rolling boil, while covered, then remove from the heat and let sit for 12 minutes. Works perfectly every time. ;)
I learned the 17 minute method in my senior year of high school (cooking class). I've even converted several of my friends who had been hard boiling for over 30 minutes! They couldn't believe that eggs cooked 17 minutes came out perfectly every time
the green ring that illuminates around the yolk comes from the gases. usually you can take a safety pin or a small teenie pin poke a hole in the egg on one end and boil them and you'll never have a green ring! the other tip is boil the eggs for 2 minutes while it's boiling vigorously, not too hard then cover remove from the Heat let it stand for 8 minutes exactly rinse them just as you did and they come out perfect 17 minutes is a long time.😀😎 Thanx-a-Bunch
This is going to sound weird, but if I have one regret in my life, it's the fact that I never said hello to you, Chef John. I was visiting San Francisco last summer with a few of my friends, and when we were walking near the Coit Tower, I saw you sitting there. We made eye contact, but I was so shocked to see you that I never said hello. Anyways, now you know, haha.
This is year two trying this recipe. I didn't have Tarragon last year and I used the wrong canned crab, so they did not turn out well. This year, they were amazing! The tarragon was a tiche overpowering, so next year I will cut that in half, but these eggs were the first thing to vanish off the table! :D
I believe, It is possible to do this same recipe and have runny yolks. What do you think John? With the proper preparation and timing, a person could substitute the hardboiled yolk with a carefully planned runny yolk, and apply the same crab topping. Any takers? Opinions? TII

Chef John has made me smile more than anyone during the last year! The best recipe he offers is a daily dose of his personality!
And we certainly have needed some smiles this past year! No politics, and some really useful recipes presented with humor. I don't even like to cook or entertain, but I love Chef John's videos.
"If you can't afford crab, you can always substitute with lobster or caviar." I spit out my drink!
HurricaneSalim I know right??!!!
😀😀😀😀
you realize lobster and caviar are cheaper than crab right ?
@@ThielTube Depends where you live.
Um, lobster crab and shrimp all cost about the same from the market, unless you're talking about whole live ones.

"...one more dusting with the cayenne,"
"I'm gonna use paprika."
*use paprika if you're weak*
WELL. Fair enough.
Seriously, has no one seen a Meyer lemon before?
Looks amazing!
after 2 years of watching please don't saw twerk....please?
Scottish Caramel Shortcakes soon maybe?

Lemonade tree, right? My Mother in-law has one and uses it for sodastream.

Good to see chef john making more single serving recipes
I am a lover of deviled egges.
I never thought of putting crab in them.
Talk about amazing!!!!
"If you can't afford crab you can certainly substitute with lobster or caviar" Chef John, you give me life
Ok 17 min egg has changed my life. I made the prettiest, and easy to peel eggs every today. Amazing!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing and my family did Enjoy
Food Wishes is my fail-safe,
go-to for the holiday season. Chef John is a lifesaver!
I love how he talks in his videos. I could watch his videos all day.
Finally admitting you're in the pocket of the Cayenne Pepper industrial-complex.
I just had some cayenne on my eggs, yum.
yum, where have you been all my life you little devils! glad i'm finding these older videos, really enjoying.
I thought I was the only person who makes my hard boiled eggs like this! I leave them in the water for 10 minutes instead. SO PERFECT.
I do less time for salads, etc. but like a little firmer for deviled eggs.
These are great! I substituted the mayo for tartar sauce and they were amazing! Thanks Chef John!
I usually boil eggs for 7 minutes (with the heat going on) and they come out perfect everytime. No green/blue rings. Can't wait to try this recipe out!
I love your videos and you!! I'm in MD so it's Blue crab all the way!
Don't eat fish but still watched the video anyway for your good humour and wit. Thank you sir!
I always push my hard yolks through a sieve to get them very smooth very easily. Perfect for piping.
I’m gonna do that.

That's got to be the most orange lemon I've ever seen.
Could be a Meyer ... they are more orange than regular lemons. And they are deliciously sweet!

These look absolutely delicious paired with my favorite kettle chips & beer. Great recipe, will definitely be making these gems.
Just made these. Amazing. Also, the egg cooking method was perfect! Although mine were still tough to peel :(
Wow a nice add to deviled eggs, gotta try this recipe, like the idea of making with cavier, lobster, nice white fish like flounder with the Dungeness Crab.

You truly are the Ron Burgundy of cooking shows on UA-cam.
Your narrating and suggestions are a hoot 😆
These look gorgeous and YUM!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Chef John!
You're seriously funny! And I love your recipes! They're so easy to follow!
Nice... When I was a chef at emerald Delmonico in my station. I stuffed them with the crab meat and topped with caviar it was the best.
Nice recipe. I have been doing this for years, except I add Lobster and finely diced baby shrimp. Seafood Devilled Eggs with Bay Seasoning :}
Great speaker! Very professional!TYVM!
if I can't find Dungeness crab can I use prisonness crab
this looks so good
I believe the answer you seek was mention in the video. I'm sure if you venture over to the printed version, this will also be noted as well.
Rexie R no it was a joke lol - DUNGENess (as in dungeon/jail) and PRISONness (as in prison/jail) - guess it was not a clever joke
@@jmarylastone four years later I got your joke!!😂
It was clever I got it don't sell yourself short 😂
"We're gonna take six cold eggs from the refrigerator..."
There's seven eggs in the pan.
I noticed that too.
Very observant, but when I make devilled eggs I always boil one or two extras, for insurance, just in case I break an egg white or two.
Great recipe and very useful tips... thanks Chef!
I use the 12 minute method these days. Bring the water to a full rolling boil, while covered, then remove from the heat and let sit for 12 minutes. Works perfectly every time. ;)

Boiling an egg for 30 mins, they must have been like rubber as it only takes around 7 mins to hard boil an egg.
I couldn't help but thinks of capers as a topping for these delicious looking nuggets.
Absolutely delicious
Lovely...def will try this one day
this is great! I was looking for a new deviled egg recipe!
Wow looks so delicious! May I know what can I substitute carb with something else?
this is so yummy...thank you chef
oh em gee! that is a beautiful recipe. Going to try in on our channel. Thank you Chef John. :)
