In my honest opinion Toni, right decision in the end. We've all been there but your a real grafter to put it all back and make such a good job. You have a beautiful home and a real eye for decor. I've just had my stairs paneled you will not believe the difference its going to make to your stairs lovely.
    Take care sharon

Oh Toni, I have done this type of painting mistake a couple of times, but I find had I not done it, I would always be wondering!! Crazy. However I have ploughed on like you hoping that I will eventually like it, but soooo wished I had not because it takes a lot of hard work to put it right lol. I even go against my husbands thoughts, thinking I know best. You are bringing colour into a beautifully bright white hallway in other ways, which will be perfect. You clearly have vision of what you want. From this sort of mistake usually leaves me rather unconfident but it all works out in the end. Can’t wait for your next video and thank you.

That was a real honest video and that's why I love and follow you. When it was black I thought mmmmmm and then when you changed it back to white I definitely thought you had made the right choice.
My whole banister was mahogany colour and I painted it all white as my hall is similar to yours. What a difference I love it.

Hi Toni thank you for sharing your experience. I had the exact same reaction when I did swatches on my hand rails lol. My theme color throughout my house is black and white as well. I was having a hard time making the choice in changing my all white massive stair case for years and finally decided to go for it. I loved the black it gave your stairs character. It was a nice transformation. I think you should have kept the banister white and the handrail a soft black. This look wouldn’t look so tense on the eyes and wouldn’t mind the little change going darker in color on your hand rails. I ended up going with this to my stairs and am pleased with how it turned out. I went with the paint color graphite in benjamin moore. I’m still in search for a good top coat or sealer 😅

    Hi Toni.
We have all been there in one way or another. I have a 'wallpaper graveyard' in our loft, that can vouch for how I have changed my mind once I can see it on a wall. 🤣
I have Dulux natural Hessian on my living room walls.
It gives a lovely warmth to a room. We have had many people ask what colour we have used.
Personally! In the lighting in our living room, there isn't a trace of a pink undertone. Paint certainly looks different tones in different lighting. 💕

I honestly love it black, so clean looking, the top of my bathroom walls is black 🖤, with the bottom half white tiles, I even went black on the back of the bathroom door... It worked because all the white didnt make the bathroom to dark...
I guess if your use to light colours on your woodwork, it can be a bit shock seeing the 🖤 black... Loved how real you edit your vblogs...

I did this in our previous home but only did the handrail (not the uprights) because I thought it would be too dark. It looked lovely and we had so many compliments on it. I appreciate it’s too late now, but maybe keeping the uprights white would have changed your whole opinion? ☺️

    Looks really nice 👍🏼
Your staircase is exactly the same as mine. I have oak doors and tried to match the banister but after several attempts of varnish nothing could match. Ive decided to do what your doing and paint the handrail black. To compliment it i will also paint the stair rail that runs from the carpet up black as well. I jist glossed my spindles and hope the handrail looks nice when its done. Wish me luck lol

It only looked monotone because you just did the banister, which wouldn’t look nice , you needed to do all the stairs/ spindles I did mine all over three years ago and the difference was incredible, but if you don’t like it I understand. Anyway you can always change your mind, it’s only paint, but it’s very time consuming.

You didn't show any prep Toni, Frenchic needs prep, maybe that's why you needed 4 coats, you did use too much paint on the first coat, that's why it's lovingly referred to as the WTF coat!!! Personally I wouldve paint all the spindles too, the thing that threw it off was the grey carpet xx

This is the frenchic lazy range paint Jane, no prep is needed however the perfectionist in me made me clean and sand before the black went on the banister. This is more of a think it through…. Than a how too 🥰

The house we bought had the railing painted and I just don't know what the appeal is. It's so hard to find anything made of actual wood and to cover it up with paint and hide the natural beauty of the wood doesn't make sense to me. I'm stripping our railing and staining it to match the stairs. It seems the realtors think this helps sell a house, but we sure didn't buy ours because of the railing. In fact, we almost didn't buy it because of the railing since we knew it would be a major project to fix it.
