Your video was great and super easy to follow. I got my carb rebuilt today and it seems to be working like it should. I have been doing the mother's polish with a q tip in a drill to clean the needle seat and it works everytime to keep the carb from overflowing.
Make sure to keep posting videos they are super helpful and you really know what your doing!

Great Video! BUT! I have never rebuilt a carb before and this video was perfect, except there is one critical step that this video and almost every other Honda Trail CT-90 video left off. HOW DO YOU GET THE CARBURATOR DETACHED FROM THE THROTTLE CABLE? After watching hours of different videos I finally
saw one from a trail 70 that showed you simply unscrewed the cap and pulled the cable and the plastic slide right out! Of course I had already tried that 10 times but mine would not budge. But that was enough for me to realize that after only 46 years of ownership and not running for 40 years that mine must be stuck! It was simple to push out free from the inside of the carb, clean, and now it works like new again!
Before I saw your video I was about to hire an experienced mechanic. Thanks to your video I think I did a much better job that they would have done! THANKS!

By the way; rockymountainatv.com did not have the carb rebuild kit but I got mine from bikebandit.com Their website is also much better showing the bikes from the 70's with the diagrams and what parts are available.
@@raypollok6417 Bike bandit is good as well. Also partzilla is a great source for seeing all the vehicles a part fits, so when you're looking for used parts you'll have multiple vehicles to search for.
How do you remove the choke on 110 honda carb?
Any ideas where to get the OEM for the 1979 Honda CT90? I see several OEM but they stop at 1977 and state it won't work for the 1979? Is there a best aftermarket kit?
fyi, if you have a really bad carb in rough shape with a lot of corrosion, or you want it done fast, use a wire wheel cleaner concentrate, and mix it a little hot, five minutes you have really clean parts! been doing all types of carbs for decades,and that method has saved me countless hours! jets, and emulsifier tubes, come out clean on the inside! and the passage ways as well, regular mag wheel cleaner will suffice in a pinch! you can discolor some aluminum, so ya kinda have to watch it.
Yes that wire wheel.cleaner works awesome, I use it for aluminum frame cleaning.
@@TepcoCycleRepair one thing, you didn't cover the slide, and I forgot how the cable retainer clip went in, lol! this ain't no holley dominator! lol!
If I remember correctly, it's the W shaped clip. Drop the needle in the slide, put the clip in the top of the slide with the center/valley of the W towards the cable slot, put the spring under the cap, compress the spring, hook the cable into the slide, let the spring go into the top of the slide, it will hold the clip down, done!
@@TepcoCycleRepair thanks dude! it's been laying there for six months! aftermarket carbs never seem to have the correct throttle cable tube into the slide cap, never seem to have fuel shut off valves on them, and rarely fit the air filter correctly! you might have a better manufacturer, that I need to know!

You didn't do a float adjustment. Should that be measured with just the weight of the floats on the [spring loaded} needle or do you compress the needle's spring [until it the float just bottoms out against the spring] then make your measurement? Otherwise great video!! Thanks
So this was running good until it sat so that's why I didn't do a float adjustment. To adjust, you measure without the spring being compressed. Just when the needle rests on the seat. Thanks for watching!
The bowl drain on my 70 ct90 won’t seal anymore. I hated to do it but had to put a rubber cap over the outlet tube. It doesn’t leak now but it’s a hassle when I want to drain the carb.
Like the screw is corroded and won't seal? I would polish the inside with valve compound on a q-tip then polish the drain screw. If you plug that drain the overflow can't drain either and can flood the bike if it tips over or if the fuel cock doesn't seal it could fill your craink case with fuel.
@@TepcoCycleRepairI guess it’s corroded or damaged in some way. I thought perhaps there was a rubber seat of some sort that’s missing. I was watching your video to see if anything other than a shaft seal was included in a rebuild, apparently not. I’m pretty sure installing one of those Chinese knock offs will lead to problems.
@@jatoav8or You could get the knock off and just use the bowl, I have done that before.

I'm guessing you mean the circle with the holes in it, it can only go in one way.

Thanks for the video BIG help. What is this hot Pine-sol? A replacement for a bucket of carb cleaner? Just got a '70 CT90 and can't get it to idle.
It's just household name brand pinesol diluted 3 to one part water. It's better than the carb cleaner because you can drop the whole carb in, plastic and all.
try my method, and it's fast!
What about the choke assembly? My ST90 has choke with plastic knob. I am only curious because I will need to soak mine to clean it. Also, can you explain your warm Pine Sol cleaning method?
The pinesol I use in regular brand name pinesol and i soak it in a pot over an electric smoker angle burner for about 15 min. It won't mess up any plastic or rubber. I'll usually pull it out after 10min and brush it with a toothbrush. Then pull it out after 15 min and see how it looks. If good, rinse it really good with water then spray it down with carb cleaner and disassemble.
On the non-choke side, there's a black 'pin' sticking out. Is this a plug? I don't have anything in that orifice and fuel is coming out of it.
The pin I think you're talking about is a vent and no gas should be coming out of it. If it is, your bowl is overflowing.

@@anthonybarranti1701 Sure thing and to be clear, it's a vent tube for the bowl. The overflow tube actually comes out of the bottom of the bowl.
Hi, I've just noticed my needle seat washer is missing. I'm guessing a previous owner failed to replace it.
The bike runs fine without it. What's its purpose? Any ideas?
Yes, it stops fuel from getting around the needle seat. So when the float it all the way up and cuts off the fuel to the bowl, it can still work it's way down the threads and past where the washer is and overflow the bowl. On this particular carburetor the needle seat is brass and maybe sealing it pretty well. Think of the washer like a drain plug washer it's soft so it can crush and seal.

Your description says "dont waste your money on a garbage aftermarket carburetor " but than 1 month after this video , you replaced it with a cheap china carburetor. What happened? This kit did not fix your OEM carburetor ?
THATS what I'm afraid is gonna happen to me. Waste money on this kit and still have issues.
All said and done, what do you recommend.... this rebuild kit or a new china carburetor?

They were 2 different CT90's this one I rebuilt, the other wasn't repairable. I did a lot of research on carbs for this and the one I picked was the best aftermarket. If your carb body is clean and not pitted, rebuild it. If the body is toast, look for an aftermarket. Both of the CT's I repaired run great. If the one on Amazon is sold out search for another that looks the same. Look at the top cap, the cheaper ones use a different cap.

a lot of aftermarket carbs don't have the fuel shut off valve, and the slide cap is always wrong, had to use the origional slide cap too many times!
@@chrishuss10 Then it's the wrong carb for your application. The one I found in another one of my videos for another CT90 has the best aftermarket carb I have found.
