BMW M - My pleasure. I’ve owned every m3 model, except the e30 M3. I currently drive the F80. I’m sure the ZF transmission is quick and fuel efficient, but doesn’t offer the same sense of control or as sporty a feel as a DCT allows. In my humble opinion.
Serg MD There is a reason why BMW ditched the dual clutch on the new M5, I think, 1. To prove that an underpowered M5 that pulls on an automatic can outrun a 4matic+ Benz, it's called a classic act of engineering to show engineering prowess. 2. The expensive dual clutch system issues have redirected the development of the less issue automatic transmission which can be as competent or even better than dual clutch when done properly, we aught to take our hats off for BMW innovation..
Serg MD BMW DCT’s torque is limited to 700nm. I also prefer DCT, but the combination of Xdrive, the huge power delivery of the M5 are reasons to drop the DCT. Not forget the ZF has one gear more why the rpm drops en the car use less fuel.
@@DC-88 I don't care about 1-3km/L less fuel efficiency if I can get that visceral feel of mechanically clutched upshifts and crisp downshifts. As always, BMW doesn't seem to realize its strengths and always misses the mark with enthusiasts.
I know this is old but I love how the concept of creeping and low speed is handled, making the car need throttle input is more engaging and safer then simulating a torque convertor imo
I like a M DCT it shift really fast it can lauch very well and easy to use for daily drive but i hope M division still keep a manual because M car should have manual option for people who love engaged gear by it self
I know! I’ll really miss the DCTs in the 3 series range. I’m not as upset about it leaving the M5 as people said it wasn’t really fitting in a vehicle that large, but the M3/M4 was the perfect car to put it in (besides maybe the M2 and M2C). I’m still praying that they’ll surprise us last minute with one 🙏🏻
The main design flaw is that PARK can only be initiated when car is Turned OFF. If the car is ON and I want to get out for 1sec, there is no way to put it in PARK......I do put in Neutral and then use the Hand brake.
It's very simple. Step on the brakes, press on/off button, let off the brakes, press on/off button again. The transmission automatically is positioned in P. The dash will also show that the trans is in P position. BTW, if you don't let off the brakes and pushed the on/off button again, the engine will start again. You can apply the hand brakes before, during, or after you do all these. I recommend applying the hand brakes before. The regular automatic is actually more complicated. I discovered this when I had my M2C serviced and they gave me a 340i with auto transmission as a loaner.
arniebarb123 I believe if you actually hit the start/stop button twice it will go into park. From my knowledge the F8x’s do this. If you shut it off in neutral, you’ll get the warning about the vehicle rolling, but if you click the start/stop button once more, it should go into Park. Try it and let me know. I think it’s easier to just leave it in gear when shutting the car off, but I’m interested to know if this works on the F1x generation.
@@jordanbanko5347 On my 2018 M2, I find the system somewhat confusing. If you shut off in neutral by pressing the start/stop twice, you would have to lift off the brake pedal on the second press, or else the engine will turn back on. So you would need to apply parking brake, lift off brake pedal, then press for a second time. Easier to leave in D or R and just press start/stop once, but I think you would still need to apply parking brake first (at least that's how I've always done it). The silly part is once it P, the Homelink remote buttons are disabled, so you would have to either close your garage door while the engine is running, or turn off engine in N, close the garage door, and then press start/stop again to put in P. I just think they've made it more complicated than need be.
@@H1delta Well, if you applied the parking brake after, the car may start rolling, if it is on an incline. Also, I believe if the parking brake is applied first, then only one press of the start/stop is needed to put into P.
This is why i like DTC on M car. It doesn’t move if we don’t acceleration and if we full acceleration it could jump out like a beast !! I used to drive M4 as a rental car in Germany and i love it .. yeah i’m a bimmer fan
just wondering if the 2016-2019 bmw 340i models have the DCT transmission using the center console shifter? While already having the regular automatic transmission.
What if I come to a stop, wana get out and leave the car to idle? Yes it will not move unless the accelerator is pressed but if I leave the car to idle and someone gets in to maybe sit in it and accidentally presses the accelerator? Don't get me wrong I love the M4 and the DCT, which is why I want to buy one....just curious.
When I was in Spain, I rented an M2, and the first time I went to park it at a restaurant, I realized I didn't know how to get it to P! The owner's manual was in German, so I had to send a message to the group chat of the BMW M club back home for someone to tell me the trick 😂
How can I tag @NickMurray in this..? :) He’s made videos complaining about this exactly.. (could also be him, his 911 also rolls of his drive, fun to watch though...)
How do I use the low speed assist and get on the throttle the right way? Sometimes when I’am in first gear and hit the gas it gets jerky and I’m so nervous I’m braking something
Hi. Let’s assume car is in 1st gear, foot on brake and stationary. When you release brake the car will remain stationary. Now just lightly tap the accelererator pedal briefly and take the foot off the pedal and you will see the car will now “crawl” slowly. From here you can brake to make it slower, when for example parking the car. You can also accelerate faster from this “crawl” speed, if for example out of a car park. This is how I drive off most of the time, from a traffic light for example. I almost never stop and just press the accelerator once, almost always the soft tap first and then the normal acceleration thereafter. Hope this helps
How do you put it in park while you have the engine on and just want to get out of the car for a minute ? Or you just get out and you simply hope that the car would not start to roll away. ...
Paul CCraciun Really are you a moron !! This is not a automatic transmission it works just like a manual : put it in neutral put the emergency brake on just like a manual get out of the car it will not roll just like a Manuel do what you need to do get back in the car take off the E-brake put it in gear and drive. Wichtig hierbei natürlich das beim zweiten druck auf den Start Knopf der Fuß nicht auf der Bremse stehen darf da sonst der Motor wieder gestartet wird ;)
Only thing that sucks is when my m4 is in Sports plus mode, gently pressing the accelerater , the car is too sensitive and jerks so hard😭😭 looks so stupid
I love the BMW Dct. The quickest accelerating transmission I've ever driven. It's not as difficult as people think. Can be a little jerky at low speeds but worth it when the going gets going. DCT is a must option on an M car and will never buy an M car without it.
Thats not how you park the DCT. You should first go into neutral and pull the parking brake, then shut the car off to switch into park. If youre on an incline/decline, you dont want your transmission holding all the weight so its better to rest it on your parking brake first.
When you parking using Reverse(R), then put your DCT into neutral and turn off the car - you wont be able to leave it, as it wont close until you turn car on again, engage gear and turn car off. Not very intuitive, E-series works much better with DCT than F, it will just allow you to close your car and turn off ignition and engage P. Handbreak always used, btw. Why this was changed in F-series - no idea, but now owning both E and F M3/M2 and F-series makes me cry because of that change.
What if i stop to get something out of the trunk ? I have to shitch off the engine just so the car doesn't roll back. That's stupid. Furthermore the next gen M4 won't have a DCT anyway, so why even bother with the video.
how would you know, I own the car and I have never has any issue parking it. Push the knob to Neutral and apply the parking. There is nothing to hard about it

When you parking using Reverse(R), then put your DCT into neutral and turn off the car - you wont be able to leave it, as it wont close until you turn car on again, engage gear and turn car off. Why this was changed in F-series - no idea, but now owning both E and F M3/M2 and F-series makes me cry because of that change.
Park in reverse and simply turn off the car, it's even easier and very intuitive. I don't get what you struggle with ?
