On Jokers notepad: "The worst part about having a mental illness is that people expect you to behave as if you don't"
Film looks amazing already
Wow that is deep great eye
And it's on a list of jokes... I don't think that one will get many laughs.
@@arwyss Well it is funny. It's funny how fucking retarded our society is in handling these. We through drugs at everything when some people can fight it by pure support and we don't give drugs to those that need them because we suspend belief. It's hilarious how much we want to claim normalcy but fail so miserably at tackling the odd.Our definition of normal and peaceful itself is cloaked in contradiction. Peaceful society not at war yet the people within it are out for self and have no patience for others. Humanity is one big joke of contradictions.
Fariko Wishless You need commas and periods.
This film is gonna be fucking deep
I’m loving the creepy tone. The darkness. The strangeness. This looks awesome man.
You think it's Bruce's parents that the joker kills in the subway? Because his life sucked so he took his aggression out on a rich family? Yea, I think they told us the whole story in that trailer. You heard it here 1st.
@@3576alan maybe that scenario happens in the movie but Thomas Wayne is probably gonna be the antagonist so it wouldn't be some attack on a random family
@@Spongebrain97 That's correct. It will be deliberate and intentional. I never ment to imply randomness regarding the incident that's (in my opinion) sure to occur.

Wasn’t expecting much from it but man this looks like it could be contending for an Oscar. Definitely looking forward to it now!
If Logan didn't win anything there is no way in hell this well either.
The trailer doesn't make me excited but it does make me want to go see it - which I guess is the point. I like DC when they're not trying to do massive universe films, doing sporadic and well thought through films like this and trying not to do what Marvel does will be better for them if they go that route I think.
It was nominated for Oscars in the '70s when it was called Taxi Driver!
Killua zoldyck you act like the Suicide squad joker doesn’t exist lol
@Killua zoldyck Your opinion
This trailer has me thrilled and has me rooting for the villain. That scene where he's running under the tunnel and in the bathroom in front of the mirror gave me goosebumps.
I was hesitant but now I'm so pumped for this movie.
I guess I'm different. I don't root for villains but I can simultaneously appreciate the talent at the same time. Joaquin is one of the most underrated actors of all time and he'll kill it.
Not in the bathroom but in the backstage.. practicing how to laugh
To me was the very last part when he enters the hallway plus the background music 2:54 *goossebumps*
I like the idea of us sympathising with Arthur at the beginning (like with the scenes of him being attacked and mocked).
I think the movie will use it to show that Gotham created the Joker and Gotham got what it deserved when he eventually turns into the Joker.
So excited for this movie!!!
I want them to really go for the sympathetic shot and then pull the chair from under the audience. Lull us into a false sense of security.
Blackman Whitesuit I think that's what they're going to do because at least for me the vat of acid was always more humanising because it was out of his control and until then he was a good person who just wanted to make people smile
@@TheJjcczz well, we only see him trying to be a good person before the chemicals in one storyline. There's no other narrative out there that has shown the joker to be good before then.
Doc what do you mean by good person? Do you mean good or normal?

“All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day.”
And then it turned out that the message of the movie was basically the opposite of The Killing Joke's: A lifetime of bad days will eventually push anyone over the edge if society does not have systems in place to catch them should they stumble and fall.
This movie clearly has no time to fit anyone's narrative. Masterpiece loading
Onechi Lwenje That’s a fact, well put!

DC makes the characters *so* real! That's why I love their movies. Also, freaking Joaquin Phoenix... Perfect choice!
B Rack Aquaman was good though?
@@SparaticSpartan It was below average in my opinion but definitely better than Suicide Squad and Justice League.
@K Parser Not the JL I've dreamed off and been waiting for years... not even the one showed on the first trailers - It drives me mad that WB did everything to f*ck up the entire DCEU
@K Parser Also can't grasp the taste of other audiencies... Aquaman was a "meh" for me; A CGI-fest; don't understand why it is held in a high regard
@@CJTamino10 Aquaman is better than many overrated mcu movies out there.
This is suppose to just show him slowly going into insanity, batman is there but it's just kid Bruce Wayne, it's a delve into the psychology of him as a person
And also great discussion!!
@kmh529 And Alfred
MiniWeni I'm willing to bet that scene between Arthur and Bruce happens at the end of the movie after Bruce's parents get killed.
If that's Bruce, then its an interesting reversal on the usual story, where Batman preceded Joker and in some versions inadvertently creates him. The only other version I can recall where Joker is much older, and met Bruce as a kid, is the Tim Burton Batman with Nicholson as the Joker (which also gave the Joker an origin).
@@Sam-vk8xd Disagree that Batman is insane. That just cheapens the character for the sake of being "edgy". For that matter, I don't think most versions of the Joker are insane, in the legal sense of the word (unable to tell right from wrong and therefore not legally responsible for their actions). Or at least I think you can make a case either way. Ledger Joker, for example, didn't seem insane to me. He wasn't delusional. Just a nihilist who hated the world and wanted to show everyone that the world was as ugly as he believed it to be. Killing Joke Joker (from which Ledger Joker clearly took some inspiration) always struck me as someone who knows deep down that he's a monster (hence his desperate need to validate himself by showing that everyone else is just as corruptable). He seems very deliberate, very self-aware, when he rejects Batman's offer of redemption at the end. He knows he's a monster, and he chooses to be because not giving a shit is easier than facing what's happened to him, and what he's become. Batman and the Joker both lose their meaning as characters if you simply say "they're insane". Batman and the Joker are opposites, but they have this in common: they both chose how they responded to the horrors of the world. Batman is a hero who tries to protect people and impose order, and the Joker is a villain who revels in nihilism and caring about nothing, because that's what they chose to be.
@@Sam-vk8xd No, insanity is not defined simply as "being mentally ill", certainly that is not the legal definition of insanity, and saying it is is both insulting to everyone who has a mental illness but is not insane, and misrepresenting legal and medical fact. Also, Batman being mentally ill is an interpretation of the character, not inarguable fact.
Knowing how this film turned out, i get goosebumps when i watch the trailer again.

I don't think the Joker should be made into a sympathetic character. It doesn't work for this character. That's why I'm not sold
but if you make a movie about a character and you don't like the character, it just doesn't work, you gotta have some kind of attachment to him/her/it @@mlgnerd13
I love how this was less of a superhero movie and it’s more a mental health depression understanding the villain type movie
Some people seem to confuse "reason" with "justification". This movie just explains how he descended into madness, it does not justify his criminal actions. If you think a tragic backstory is enough to make you sympathize with a mass murderer, that says a lot about you.
You were right in the first half of your comment but by the logic you presented in the first half that would men sympathy wouldn’t apply as trying to justify the man being a mass murderer, you can sympathize and still oppose someone’s actions.
I've watched it 10 times already. It's chilling and spectacular. Truly can't wait for October! If any villain can have their own movie I'm happy as hell it's the joker. Joaquin Phoenix is just perfect.

Honestly the last shot of him really brought me back to seeing Heath Ledger's performance for the first time. Complete chills.
I think the story they’re comprising here is pretty complex. One man takes it upon himself to try to bring joy and happiness to this messed up world. Of course he lost his damn mind 🤷🏽♂️. Life makes monsters.

This Joker is the only one I've seen that immediately made me think "That's Joker". Whereas with previous iterations, I always just saw the actor doing their interpretation of the character. A lot of it has to do with writing, no doubt, but man, Phoenix just got me hooked from the very first shot with his faint forced smile.
Javier Belmer dude what?!? Heath ledger is the only joker who did that for me
so.. have you watched the movie?
The shots of Joaquin Phoenix in the full suit and hair and makeup reminded me of the cartoon and honestly that's what sold me.

No offense, but you guys need to see more older movies, especially 70s & 80s movies. This film looks less influenced by other comics than Scorsese's TAXI DRIVER & KING OF COMEDY (as well as gritty films like DEATH WISH, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, etc).
I totally agree
Facts
Love King of New York also! With Christopher Walken
The movie is influenced by "The Killing Joke" comic by Alan Moore, it's Joker's most famous origin story.
Complete Taxi Driver vibes
Oh my God Aaron is always the most critical one out of them and for no fucking reason, also he always seems the most one who seeks after action, and I noticed that from many reactions to many shows.
"Like Venom" - man, I couldn't disagree more with this statement. The narrative of venom was disappointing, unfortunately not unexpected. Heavily marketed with the villain narrative, at the climatic rocket scene I was unsure if I had watched a hero cloaked as an antihero, but a villain, definitely not. Judging by this trailer, Joker is obviously a cautionary tale, about a man that is consumed by the shadow archetype, leaving empathy behind - being a villain. If the joker is anything like venom, I am gonna give up on this genre. After more than a decade of half assed superhero movies - and seeing only "villains" 'finally doing something good" - I really want to see something new, someone that actually tells the story of an actual villain and what that might entail. Not a hero/antihero in a villain cloak.
Bro said im not sold
When the Joker stretched his mouth into a grin with his fingers, I couldn't help but think of who inspired his creation in the first place: Conrad Veidt as Gwynplaine in "The Man Who Laughs", a 1928 silent film adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel.
This looks great, I was already excited before but this definitely increases it for sure.
Joaquin is easily the most talented man to ever play the role.
This trailer is put together so well that I keep watching react videos to it, and then just watching the trailer again so I can enjoy it in all its glory. The juxtaposition of the tone with the song lyrics, the score, the lighting effects and the camera work...please let it actually be how the film is and not just an excellent push to get ticket sales.
In The Taxi Driver we side with Travis Bickle for 90% of the movie, you visibly see his decline into madness. By the end of the film, although labelled as a hero to many, we see him as a villain. The Joker feels like a very similar theme and one I cannot wait to experience.
This. While watching the trailer, I immediately thought of Taxi Driver. In a good way.
The Joker outfit really reminds me of the Cesar Romero Joker. He could be the first in the 3 Jokers line with Leto being the second and there being room for a third in future films.
the teaser gives me memories of 90s animated batman series show. this movie kinda have the same atmosphere
it looks brilliant.
The Charlie Chaplin references are rampant throughout the trailer. The song heard is Smile co-written by Chaplin. The double ads of Chaplin's masterpiece Modern Times which shows up at 2:25 (double ads as a metaphor for the two sides of Joker's sanity?). The closeup of the extended-like shoes at 2:20 which mimics Chaplin's own clown shoes. The miniature Chaplin bowler hat at 1:29. And the constant (sometimes comic) violence acted on Joker is parallel to Chaplin travails in his films, especially Modern Times. Is Joker a Modern Times Charlie Chaplin? Are the two great clowns somehow related? My heart beats deep on this one
Heath Ledger isolated himself in his living space for a month and slept up to 2 hours per day (an ongoing issue leading to his accidental overdose) to adopt the Joker's neurotic mentality.
Christian Bale emaciated himself down to 120 pounds for The Machinist, then beefed up to 190 pounds a year later for Batman Begins.
Jaoquinn Phoenix is yet another great method actor to grace the DCEU who always went the extra mile to transform himself for whatever role he's given. Gladiator, Walk the Line, The Master, or any role in his long career affirms that when he commits, he's all in. This will be a film to remember.
The dude is suffering from mental illness while taking care of his sick mom. This is the third reaction I've seen where the people say he has a weird relationship with his mother. Why? Because he has to help give her a bath. That's what happens if you don't have money people. You have to take on the full responsibility of taking care of your parent.
Apparently that kid is actually Bruce Wayne
The second guy from the left started the trailer laughing and ended with his mouth wide open.
Arthur (pre-Joker) was a typical sane guy, but life gave him a very raw deal. But the way he dealt with that raw deal became demented, because all the crazy stuff was happening so quickly, one after another, with nothing to look forward to. What's more, the lives around him were quite bad and hypocritical too, but it seemed that Arthur was the only one who saw how bad things really are.
I'm certainly interested. It's a unique take, and the trailer makes me more excited than I was before
Eric understood the point of this movie
1:21 The guy with the pen laughing like a jerk thinking "oh God, I'm gonna make fun of this awful trailer" . 3:28 "I love it"
This was a teaser for the year 2020.
they wanted to do a kinda dark universe (but not really) and it failed.
But now... now they are doing a dark movie and it looks great *.*
The Shazam producer said it best: "The right tone for the right character".
Yeah because they are actually doing in a way that i'snt over the top melodramatic but instead a way that actually feels real.
@The After Dance Party True. I still pretty much love the Man of Steel and i still want a shared DC movie Universe, but his vision was not meant to be.One of BvS's issues was the fact that it tried to be too much too quick. It was a MoS sequel but also a Batman movie, but also a Justice League prequel, but also tried shoehorning storylines for the next 4 or 5 movies while also trying to be politically relevant. I think the important thing right now is to establish a solid foundation. Get these characters right and take time to introduce them to the audience.
Joaquin Phoenix deserves an oscar just for this teaser alone 😭🤡❤
Krystal Rodriguez hu
Yep
After watching the movie it’s so hard to comeback and watch this trailer and not want to cry man
I usually don't like these DC movies but this was flat out awesome
1:40 the top left street sign says "Jerome". This makes sense if you watch Gotham lol
That song “Smile” made this trailer amazing. Good to hear Charlie Chaplin Btw this movie will make you think about mental illness in a big way. It made me think about some friends I had in school who were innocent kids and were bullied, while dealing with their horrible home lives. Now they have horrible mental illness. If things went another way for them maybe things would’ve turned out differently. This trailer made me think of these kids and brought a tear or two to my eyes. The paths we take in life can lead to different out comes. The lesson here is never judge someone based on what you see. You don’t know what life they had and what horrible things happened to them.
The Joker always fascinated me because we never really saw his origin. So want to see this movie.
Oh this joker is way older than Batman, he is seen putting a smile on young Bruce in one scene
I love how these guys reacted to it. Didn’t talk loud during the trailer, made good points, and discussed why he didn’t like it which I respect his opinion
I can not believe an adult can't accept a movie like this. I'm sold 100%!
This Joker is for mature audiences. Ledger had the right idea, but this is going to be the masterpiece.
In coming through and re-watching Joker trailer reaction videos (perhaps the only movie I'm interested in going to the theater to see this year), I've learned that a group reaction this large can work! You guys aren't stumbling over each other and everyone's points are being made!
Eric and Aaron (obviously brothers, though I haven't looked into it) have some great managing skills for this group. That's why this works!
A lot of people making fun of the mother thing. It looks like he's clearly caring for his mother who has some sort of health issue. Since some people here are already mentioning depression and mental illness, we could maybe see that connection stemming from his mother.
Imagine if there’s a post credit scene where he kills Bruce’s parents
Most likely he will and bruce wayne will be watching
Maybe at 2:57 those Flowers are for Bruce's dead parents
Like a sick joke lol
That'd be awesome
jasiel delgado OMG😱
Why does he kept thinking a protagonist needs to be a good guy? he is just the main character that we follow on a story.
Good guy?? Really?? Joker is just a normal guy doing what needs to be done to live. He isn't special. He is an average kind of guy like us, but it's one bad day that makes him the psychopath we know and love. My take away is that they show him doing normal things to live and he looses it all and finally snaps to become who he has always meant to be.
