So, I got mine yesterday... by far the best overdrive pedal I've ever owned... the sound out of it is just unreal good!... still can't play like Andy though :-D
Sounds great. Love the small footprint. Fat Sound. I have dealt with Brian Meader at Guitar Sanctuary. He really knows his gear. I think this is one of the best distortion pedal demos I have seen.
I just got mine in the mail today! My first JHS pedal! This OD/ Distrotion is killer. It’s so thick and meaty. I play through a joyo 20watt hybrid amp, through a 1x12 with a v30 in it. This pedal makes my little rig sound full, and way bigger than it should! Maybe not 4x12 big but way way way larger than it should sound. Well done Andy, and the fine folks at JHS 10/10
I totally feel the same about it. I have a JHS Angry Charlie V3, which is where the core of the @ tone lies, and it hasn’t left my pedalboard since I first tried it. I also have a JHS Bonsai, which I run into the AC, and THAT combo is friggin incredible! And yeah man, to my ear It does a great job emulating/replicating a hot-rodded JCM800!
I’ll AB it with my JCM 800 50 watt And see .. but I’m guessing from what I’m hearing that it’s not exactly the same I think Josh said he modeled it after the JCM 800 particularly.. not sure though It certainly has way way more gain than my 800 One response to your question is yes , but a hot rodded JCM 800 And that’s definitely right if indeed it is designed as a JCM 800 But just having a independent boost makes it a very versified pedal And like Andy says being able to use it with a strat neck pickup sets it apart from other Marshall dirt boxes
I just love Andy (T) !!!!! I'm going to purchase this pedal...I may even call JHS and ask if I can get one signed by Josh...I don't care what it would cost (within reason) but that would be a awesome if so...: )
Brian Meader... sold me my first PRS DGT when he was still in Maryland... 2008. Cool to hear him mentioned. :-) I have been using this pedal since it came out... still love it. I actually use it at lower gain settings, works great there also.
Searching for a od/boost pedal. Seen this one on ebay. Came here to UA-cam to check it out. Timmons pops up in the search. Mind=BLOWN. That little bit of guitar work he did on the end of the video made my ears and soul experience some things...but that AT+ pedal is expensive af.
Just get one of the earlier versions they have the core tone as the AT+ and some of them may even be better because I think these are surface mount components and his first couple versions were hand wired components, meaning they sound a little more open possibly I’ll have to get a few of the earlier versions and AB them Though I think there may be some UA-cam comparisons already
I have been through so many overdrives, but this is a keeper. Running it at 18v in the 50watt setting. I found that putting a TC Spark Boost in front of it (sorry!!!) gave me an even more perfect staged overdriven tone that pops the mids just to where I want them
got this pedal and is so inspiring, juicy and rich with lots of sustain. BUT I really wish the boost challel would also give some post distortion volume boost.
I was recently roaming the mean streets of Bend, Oregon when a bearded young man wearing tight fitting trousers approached me and said “Hey Bro, have you heard the new AT from JHS has a boost? It’s fantastic!” I looked at him, smiled and said “Little man, I have no idea what any of that means but thank you for your passion.” And went about my day.
I'm new to electric guitar and have never used any pedals. I only have a MIM Strat with a Fender Champion 40. Can I use this as my only pedal or is it supposed to be an add on to something else? I would love to achieve even something close to that awesome tone.
Did anyone notice that just before turning on the pedal, the trail of the clean guitar is boosted and fattened? I'm a great great fan of AT and of this pedal, but that is not it's tone in the clean channel heard 5 seconds before. There is something else...
Im very late but I think I found your answer. It's a GNI chorus in front of the distortion pedal. You can see it at 3:35 in this video : ua-cam.com/video/rJmyYkyav0A/v-deo.html
Hmm could this be the angry Charlie to finally kick my Pinnacle delux off my board? I always play the Pinnacle on the modern setting for a real ccdeville tone. I bet the 100 watt mode with the tighter boost channel on could get real close yet have better dynamics.
Didn't he just release a signature BB Preamp with Xotic? This is the first time I've seen an artist have signature drive pedals with two different brands.
lexist7 Yes, he did. It can actually be seen in this video at 2:05. They are two different pedals, though. The JHS is more of a lead distortion where the Xotic is more of a medium to low gain OD.
Club Baby Seals No, it's not. It's the brand new reissue of the BB he just released. Here's a video of him introducing it that was uploaded in December. ua-cam.com/video/wKN4MJNIywY/v-deo.html
Can anyone tell me if this is inherently a noisy pedal or if it’s just my particular pedal that has an issue? With only the distortion engaged there’s some hum, which I suppose is common in distortion pedals, and it’s mostly manageable. But when I also engage the boost, it’s too much, even both noise gates I tried struggle to tell the difference between the excessive hum and the signal of my regular playing. The noise gates I have are the ISP Deci-mate (mini) and the TC Sentry, neither are slouches but they both struggled with this pedal.
@@eldyko mine was faulty, most people say theirs is quiet. I sent mine in to JHS to be repaired and it’s better now. It’s a great pedal and I recommend it
Mine isn’t very noisy Maybe it’s your power supply or your shielding in your guitar Yes any added gain will alway introduce noise but it shouldn’t be too bad
Is it just me or isn't there suppose to be a cruiser in the middle position on Andy's guitar? Looks like a normal single coil with the bottom 2 (b and high e) poles removed??? Or it look rather like the poles for the B and E are set super low.......
Anyone notice the extremely low pickup height--particularly the middle pickup? It's also slightly lower on the high E side which is pretty much opposite of what I normally do. I am more of an acoustic guitar player, but thought this was strange because you'd have to turn the gain up more to get enough volume with a low pickup height which would increase the noise. On the other hand, it sounded pretty clean.
My guess is that it is more about clean headroom. If you don't jam as much signal at the beginning you can get higher gain later without gross clipping. It's not always necessary but many times it is. So maybe he likes the sound of less signal going into his AT pedal. I am switching my fat 50's pickups in my MIA strat to 69' custom shop which are significantly lower output for just that reason. Also with single coils especially, depending on how you have your guitar wired, turning down the volume knob results in treble loss (no treble bleed on strats). So he may like less output but still keeping it at full volume. Instead of changing pickups like me which results in even more tone changes than just output (which I want) you can just lower pickup height which lowers output without changing tone too significantly. Also when you lower pickup height you gain some sustain (to a point) because the magnetic pull of the pickups isn't grabbing the strings as hard. Which when you can get all that volume back in other places can be an asset for dynamics. Just theories, could be any number of rational or irrational reasons.
Plus it gets in the way while picking, if you only soften up the bridge pickup with it it's nice like that. Same with the neck. I use a blender pot and it works amazing
Yes the pedal great good guitar playing also. But U also need a Kickass valve amp to put the iceing on the cake. Doze anyone no the amp and valves he was using thank u
@@rgr4929 Correct, from my understanding of the circuit the 25W mode uses schottky diodes which clip the signal VERY early giving the most distorted tone and allows only very low output volume. The 50W mode uses LEDs for clipping which clip significantly later and will be quite a bit less distorted and more touch sensitive while also allowing the pedal to be louder overall. Lastly the 100W mode removes all clipping diodes being the loudest and least distorted. But unless the gain is set to the , the opamp will still likely be configured to try to put out more gain it is capable of from a 9V supply which results in direct clipping from the opamp itself. Now I'm using the schematic from the pedalPCB version to pull this info and haven't seen an official trace of the actual JHS pedals...so I could be wrong on some of these details.
@@rgr4929 Also, since you asked about making this sound 'exactly as the Angry Charlie', keep in mind that these 2 pedals have different tone shaping options and is likely not to share much common ground. The AT version is designed for very careful tweaking of the treble frequencies while the current AC has a rather unique (and fascinating IMO) 3 band EQ.
I'm guessing to get a bit more brightness in the 2 and 4 positions. Just a guess. I have the cruisers and they split well but I'm guessing to get some brightness. But what the hell do I know. lol
My AT gets a lot of noise with the gain over 2 o'clock. It sounds pretty good, but my Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe does the same as this pedal with no noise. Notice how fast he turns the volume down on the guitar. I just bought a Jetter pedal an it was like removing a blanket off the speaker. Pedal makers make pedals. The Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe makes noise too. Actually, more noise than the Angry Charlie AT pedal. I have both and returned the Wampler. Also, the Wampler Pinnacle deluxe doesn't sound as EVH as the earlier versions.
where this comes in is if someone doesn't have an at and a boost or extra od and wants to buy both at once for less money. you have an at already, if you want to boost it, go for it, but that total would run you close to $300 new, me buying this pedal new i get both of those options for $250. that's kinda neat. plus frees up room on a board.

This is so perfect. His phrasing is so masterful, as is his tone.
still blows my mind whenever i watch andy play
Andy is a tone master and the perfect blend of beautiful phrasing and technical guitar playing. You were lucky to have him endorse your product!
I got mine JHS AT+ yesterday. I'm so satisfied.
When Andy Timmons himself play more chords on a demo than most of the "pedal demo makers" out there.... Thanks Andy.
Sounds great. Love the small footprint. Fat Sound. I have dealt with Brian Meader at Guitar Sanctuary. He really knows his gear. I think this is one of the best distortion pedal demos I have seen.

I totally feel the same about it. I have a JHS Angry Charlie V3, which is where the core of the @ tone lies, and it hasn’t left my pedalboard since I first tried it.

And that’s definitely right if indeed it is designed as a JCM 800
But just having a independent boost makes it a very versified pedal
And like Andy says being able to use it with a strat neck pickup sets it apart from other Marshall dirt boxes
Amazing pedal, great to have one dedicated to this great guitarist. Now on my wish list
Love this pedal, I’ve had it one week and played one gig and it was a game changer. Thank you JHS and AT!!
Andy Timmons will make a rusty sauce can sound like pure gold :).
Awesome sound and demo. Thanks for the great guys at JHS for all their works.

I just got this pedal and it is amazing - right into my 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Not sure I need my Boogie Recto anymore. ;)
Wow! I have to get this pedal! These are exactly the sounds I want to have. Awesome!
Andy´s playing is unbelievable...what a talent!!
Andy Timmons is a truly fabulous guitar player.
Awesome playing Andy your definitely one of the greatest Guitarist in the Planet great Sounding Pedal and Rig.
Thanks! Was wondering what I’m missing out on with my original 4 knob AT@ which has plenty gain for me 👍🏼🎸
What a nice bouncy sounding tone.
absolutely amazing! best guitar player ever!!!
Best guitarist ever
Holy crap, why have I never heard of this guy before? That's up there with Vai and Satriani! 🤯
This pedal is amazing 👏
just ordered one, i play cleans amps and this sounds more than a drive pedal!
The best overdrive tone I've heard
Amazingly robust and versatile pedal. I love it, can easily replace 3 or 4 other gain pedals.
Just bought mine!
JHS At+ or Wampler SLOStortion? im stuck between the two!
Sold. Now, if I could just develop a fraction of his phrasing skill...
That tone is ear ecstacy
not xtacy??
Loving the AT tone!
Anyone else noticing the new AT BB-preamp in this video :)
got this pedal and is so inspiring, juicy and rich with lots of sustain. BUT I really wish the boost challel would also give some post distortion volume boost.
Just put a boost after it then
I’m glad Josh chose to put the boost first , better for gain staging / stacking
@@mrmatthew2443 yeah I know. but you never have enough 😉
Andy is AWESOME!
The god of guitar tone
Does JHS make a distortion like this but with a more American voicing? Would love a pedal that captures the vintage mode of a Dual Rec :)
Should I get this pedal if I already own a Marshall amp (DSL5CR to be exact)?
It could help with adding a bit of different spice to your tone. If it means overextending yourself financially, then no.
I was recently roaming the mean streets of Bend, Oregon when a bearded young man wearing tight fitting trousers approached me and said “Hey Bro, have you heard the new AT from JHS has a boost? Man that sound nice
Have mercy ! Sound of the GODS
What was that chorus/octave sound I hear at the end while he plays lead? Sounds stellar! Must have that! I already own the JHS @.
Mooer shit!
Right now, I think Andy has the best signature tone out there. Fat and chewy.
looks like he's not using a cruiser anymore in the middle position of his guitar. what is that?
