Please remember that The Olde 5000, doesn't have all the advancements of the more modern units. In fact, a Higher Frequency Mine Lab , should be heaps better than our older 5000s. I'm amazed at the great finds with the 5000.

Great presentation! Really enjoy how you explain what you are doing and why. Being a 4500 owner I’ll have to watch the earlier videos with the un-modded 5k.
The important thing youve done here that i havent seen anyone else do on these tests is walk around on the ground and check that you dont have excessive ground noise. Ive seen so many pretennders do tests tuned to the exact spot the target is which is a waste of time when theres no way you could ordinarilly walk around like that. Yours is a good test. As previously said run the standard 5000. Try the standard patch setting even with your 18 inch coils.
Great testing I would like to see the Coiltec 14x9 coil on the 6000 as its so much better than the 11 inch as I'm getting deeper bigger gold that I missed with the 11 inch and it was just so clear
I use to have a "woody" fully modded 5000 and the 18 "Advantage" was the best match I found even though I had around 10 coils. I once found a brass boot tack at near on 24 inches deep at Heatcote. The only thing I didn't like was the spoke design collected sticks and the 5000 took a little learning on all the other optional settings. I think it was more that you felt overwhelmed with how they were set out. But with the mod it was more of a set and forget with just the one control to worry about. P.S. It found me a 25g nugget that was around 14 inches deep but I first got the signal from the inside of the bank which was 30 inches away. At first I thought it was ground noise as I kept digging and digging thinking "will this ever end"....
Good idea, only thing is it can become like a scoop - like a 7000 with the 19inch and full cover NF skid plate. Sure I could reverse it and cut it to fit the top? @@JohnWilson-cs7iq
From one Maurice to the other. Excellent video. I learnt a lot from your comprehensive demonstration. It was very interesting. I really would have liked to see the response on the 7000 with normal instead of difficult especially on the NF 17x13. Bookmarked for future reference viewing again.
I don’t do the mods that is detectronics Australia I just detect. I’m never been a fan of mods but I do a lot of testing .let’s put it this way . I have a 7000 with all coils and a 6000 with all coils . But I’m using a 5000 with the 18 inch round . I found that to be the best . See the other video where I dug a small nugget out . That ground has been gridded and re gridded and I found that and tested other stuff .that convinced me .I’m not saying it’s for everyone as it’s hard work but I’m chasing an edge to follow the previous guy . I have tried and tried to use normal on the 7000 and even the 6000 . But the ground is to hot . I’ve even tried shutting the machine down . Still too hot you will dig ground noises all day . I know tryhard uses normal .but I bet the ground he’s on would be very mild ,good luck to him I would love to use normal . As I said on the video which machine you decide . I can only share what I’m doing and my responses .I’m not preaching I’m just sharing my info ( right or wrong ) not many people share info . I’m always open for suggestions as you never stop learning . I’ve been detecting since 1980 and still learning . I hope that explains what I do . I thought I would video everything now as I’m getting older .I should have videoed years ago when nuggets were plentiful .need an edge these days . The mainstream manufacturers have to grind, invest, scale-up and deliver on so many levels to bring a product to market like a GPZ, and while they sure need to deliver on performance for users in order to gain market share and maintain a leading position in the industry, they (big brand detectors) represent the central chunk of the industry bell-curve only. Then there are also the little guys; unrelenting 'mad keen scientist' types who are, from their man caves, then able to laser-target specific areas to develop 'specialist' products and 'boutique' services that _can_ turn a regular GPX5k into a hot rod on the cutting edge. Those small businesses would not still be in business if their products could not deliver. Two reasons they (the solitary modder dude) are not out cleaning up on gold field that I can think of are: 1. Lifestyle choice. The modder is more likely a 'geeky' type than an outdoorsy adventurer, and he/she values that experience more than that of roving far and wide on a quest to find nuggets in the bush. 2. Single-factor results of a solitary coil track in one day (the pen track on paper 'ground cover' scenario) Vs scaling a business that can replicate a tangible product many times over. I have used the battery pack, speaker and EMF filters from woody (detectormods) on a 4500 and was very happy it took out the noise that would sometimes render my 17x13 Evo unusable. I think Maurice does a fantastic job here showcasing the end case results of these technologies. His approach is very clear and methodical. Crazy that it all comes down to hearing the sound from a 40mm speaker.
@@beergold yea I use the 25 in dd coil and set the 5000 in normal that seems to work good but you do sacrifice some smaller gold .works well when in extreme hot ground.
With the 7000 i would like to see response to ground & target in Normal and lower sensitivity too of 9 or less - yes i know ground is hot but i do such to rule out hot rocks - Thanks
Great Test Mate! Proving new isn’t always better ! I’m still armed with my trusty 4500 and a variety of DD & Mono coils from Coiltek Elite to Detech also (a 20” Scarb dual winding mono coil) its good to have an assortment for what ever the Terrain dictates! Also a XP machine. ! Cheers Gerard
Paul, I’m not a fan of the 6000 for exactly the same reasons that were displayed clearly in the video. Additionally The larger ML coil on the 7000 is not what it is all cracked up to be either. THE BIG PICTURE; The need to constantly keep selling new products is all about cash flow & marketing to keep the stock holders happy…and unfortunately is less about true advancements in Technology. The GPX-4500 set up correctly is a wonderful tool to use to listen to the ground talking to you! [The key being] > If the 4500 is setup correctly for the Ground you are in & is fitted with the correct coil … If it is…. then…you’re in luck!!! You aren’t going to miss the gold that the 6000 missed and also what the 7000 misses too. Understand there is a pattern going on here… It is called marketing: the next progression will begin….when the 8000 & 10,000 are being released !!! You will see they will be saying all the same old and moldy spin about the 7000 & 6000 compared with the latest & greatest flagship Superduper Gold finding machines they are pushing out the door next… Because that is how big business operates!!! It is all about cash flow & marketing and keeping the stock holders happy !!! Unfortunately it’s less about actual true advancements in Technology. Appreciate your time for the reply. I agree mate, marketing and turning the till over is the corporate objective. All four detectors are fantastic in the right hands. The test video has been done on a 21 gram target. How often do we stumble across nuggets like that these days. I've done this awhile now and all I'm saying is I've never enjoyed my prospecting as much with my GPX 6000. I just got fed up with the harness and connecting batteries to detectors. And what works best the terrain and geology you are using it in… All areas have individual pluses and minuses with every detector… I have worked with and around all types of Detectors… The Real test is use in the area you are in… Like in the video some detectors perform well in certain areas… and not so good in others > In my opinion…that is where the rubber meets the road. So far the gear I have been using now continues to work well and in some cases much better that the 6000 and also the 7000 (in my area.) What I have Discovered is that there is no one detector that works better in all geological areas!!!! But through the years with the 4500 & 5000 there are many years of private development and 100X more variables that you can Taylor the detector with a multitude of coils that can be targeted to certain jobs for many different geological configurations… To put that into perspective “The 4500 & 5000 are not just one machine“ they are many Machines !!!! with all those coils. Where as the 6000 & 7000 you only have a few, internal tweeks and two coils… Geology is very complex and one size doesn’t fit all… and neither does one or two detectors with only a few configurations. With that said…. I will continue to use what works best for me… proven to handle what ever area I am working in = the 4500. still going strong (when adjusted correctly) All the very Best Mate! Just checked. My 4500 starts with a serial number 100. Only just got it and have only used it on the beach so far. It goes down deep. I had another 4500 about 10 years ago and did ok around Kalgoorlie. Do you know if the 4500 like mine that starts with the serial number 100 is made in Australia or Malaysia ? Would love to know.
I didn’t have one at time of test I do now and find it good on large and small targets . Similar response to a 15 inch round evo . But it’s easier to poke in the bushes being elliptical
I use an old s bend from an old minelab always have . Drill a hole for the green button and put 3 o rings under it . Then drill a hole near machine for lead to come out . Feels a lot better angle for wrist
This is a very deceiving test. We all know most of the large nuggets have been swept up, Yes the odd one pops up every now and then, but most of the gold out there is small and there is lots of that still waiting to be found. Give me a GPX 6000 any day. If your happy constantly putting your harness on and connecting cables to heavy batteries and twiddling with knobs and switches to fine tune it, go for your life with the 5000. I had the 7000.....heavy, lots of fine tuning, no small coils, and again connecting to a harness. Ive gone over ground I thrashed with the 5000 and the 7000 and I am picking up sub gram nuggets all day long with my new best friend the GPX 6000. super light, literally switch on and go.... I'd rather be getting small nuggets and having fun all day than going hours,days, months waiting to walk over that big one. I could also do a test with the 6000 against the 5000 and the 7000 and put them both to shame too. I sold my 7000 and purchased the 6000 and a monster 1000. When I first went out with these two bad boys, the clouds parted and angles sang....When I've finished an area with the six and monster, I'll pull out my 5000, put a Nugget Finder 17x13 evolution on just in case there is a big one lurking. This video could put anyone in the market looking for a great 1st detector off the GPX 6000.......All three are sensational detectors, but if I had to choose one, give me the 6000 any day
The 6000 is a great machine don’t get me wrong .however I feel it is best suited for w.a . In vic I can go out and pick up 30 shot pellets to 6 or 7 bits of gold but at the end of the day the 7 bits might weigh 1 gram and that would be fantastic for a lot of people . I did that 30 years ago with the xt 17000 . I’m really looking for the deeper one now and happy to find nothing for the day but every now and then an ouncer pops out which is deep and out of range of a 6000 and that’s a lot of point ones . However it’s a game of staying motivated. Some people like to find a bit point 1 for the day and they are satisfied ,I say good on them and if they are happy to do that so be it . I feel the sound that most 6000 users are listening for now are the shotgun pellet sound , and they are getting conditioned for that sound, so when they do are large deep object which would be on a dip not rise they will put it down to ground noise ( unless banging then anything will get that ) . The hardest thing is going out day after day and not getting any gold . But when you do get one it’ll be a good one but that’s prospecting not crumb picking . You can go to Tibooburra and find over 100 pieces in a week for 5 grams,some will be over the moon with that and good luck to them . I’m only showing an alternative way . I would imagine in Vic most people will want to find (real gold ) after the novelty of finding stuff that doesn’t weigh much . Thanks for your comment and good luck with your prospecting 6000 users can still find a big one that no one has walked on yet so won’t be very deep . I hope for the same thing just I’m trying to get deeper where the 2200 got to in the old days .cheers
Some folks are in it to get rich and find that retirement nugget and good luck to them,others like myself love the camping, nature and finding nuggets all day. As I said I sweep up with the 6 and get the bigger ones with the 5 and the NF 17x13. The NF Xceed 15x10 will be out soon for the 6 which will pack a punch for those bigger nugs. Doc314 If it’s about specs of sand stay with your 6000,if you check a column of gold in soils of any kind the 6000 leaves behind gold!!!! All machines do.But at the end of the week check your scale.5000 will beat it every time.Weight is what 💰 pays.

Yea those deep holes are a bugger see my other video . The mod was done by detectronics in dunnolly
You could always fit a skid plate to avoid sticks. Bit like the coiltek UFO 24 x 12 back in the day.

Hipstick is by goldseekr as it’s adjustable and speakers are gme powered by an spo1 steel phase booster

Fp is at 12 . 3 o'clock is a quarter turn clockwise
Does the 17" coil on the 6000 punch any deeper than the 11" coil or is it used merely to cover more ground?
I think it does on 1 gram and up and more ground coverage less snotty pellets

Who's mod (how do I find them)? What does it cost? Why doesn't Minelab do that? Are they the only "modders"? Have you tried other ones?

what type of coil is the one that has the deepest grip?
19 inch evo goes pretty deep
The modded 5000 which i tested picks up way to much emi and ground noise
Yes it does pick up more emi .as for ground noise turn gain down and use an advantage coil. An evo is noisier but more sensitive.hope that helps

M, can you tell me what the shaft is on your 5000 and how you set up the green button? I hate the stock handle really messes with my wrist. Thank you.
I use an old s bend from an old minelab always have . Drill a hole for the green button and put 3 o rings under it . Then drill a hole near machine for lead to come out . Feels a lot better angle for wrist

I want to buy 5000
This is a very deceiving test. We all know most of the large nuggets have been swept up, Yes the odd one pops up every now and then, but most of the gold out there is small and there is lots of that still waiting to be found. Give me a GPX 6000 any day. If your happy constantly putting your harness on and connecting cables to heavy batteries and twiddling with knobs and switches to fine tune it, go for your life with the 5000. I had the 7000.....heavy, lots of fine tuning, no small coils, and again connecting to a harness. Ive gone over ground I thrashed with the 5000 and the 7000 and I am picking up sub gram nuggets all day long with my new best friend the GPX 6000. super light, literally switch on and go.... I'd rather be getting small nuggets and having fun all day than going hours,days, months waiting to walk over that big one. I could also do a test with the 6000 against the 5000 and the 7000 and put them both to shame too. I sold my 7000 and purchased the 6000 and a monster 1000. When I first went out with these two bad boys, the clouds parted and angles sang....When I've finished an area with the six and monster, I'll pull out my 5000, put a Nugget Finder 17x13 evolution on just in case there is a big one lurking. This video could put anyone in the market looking for a great 1st detector off the GPX 6000.......All three are sensational detectors, but if I had to choose one, give me the 6000 any day
The 6000 is a great machine don’t get me wrong .however I feel it is best suited for w.a . In vic I can go out and pick up 30 shot pellets to 6 or 7 bits of gold but at the end of the day the 7 bits might weigh 1 gram and that would be fantastic for a lot of people . I did that 30 years ago with the xt 17000 . I’m really looking for the deeper one now and happy to find nothing for the day but every now and then an ouncer pops out which is deep and out of range of a 6000 and that’s a lot of point ones . However it’s a game of staying motivated. Some people like to find a bit point 1 for the day and they are satisfied ,I say good on them and if they are happy to do that so be it . I feel the sound that most 6000 users are listening for now are the shotgun pellet sound , and they are getting conditioned for that sound, so when they do are large deep object which would be on a dip not rise they will put it down to ground noise ( unless banging then anything will get that ) . The hardest thing is going out day after day and not getting any gold . But when you do get one it’ll be a good one but that’s prospecting not crumb picking . You can go to Tibooburra and find over 100 pieces in a week for 5 grams,some will be over the moon with that and good luck to them . I’m only showing an alternative way . I would imagine in Vic most people will want to find (real gold ) after the novelty of finding stuff that doesn’t weigh much . Thanks for your comment and good luck with your prospecting 6000 users can still find a big one that no one has walked on yet so won’t be very deep . I hope for the same thing just I’m trying to get deeper where the 2200 got to in the old days .cheers
Some folks are in it to get rich and find that retirement nugget and good luck to them,others like myself love the camping, nature and finding nuggets all day. As I said I sweep up with the 6 and get the bigger ones with the 5 and the NF 17x13. The NF Xceed 15x10 will be out soon for the 6 which will pack a punch for those bigger nugs. Doc314 If it’s about specs of sand stay with your 6000,if you check a column of gold in soils of any kind the 6000 leaves behind gold!!!! All machines do.But at the end of the week check your scale.5000 will beat it every time.Weight is what 💰 pays.
@@guywood6574 The 6000 only gets specks of sand does it ? your not using it right if that's all your getting. I sweep up an area with the 6, then I use my 5000 with the nugget finder 17 x 13. I love my 6 and I love my 5, you'll miss nothing pairing the both of them. Read my 1st response again brother
