Hi John ! Sweet tones (as always). I'd say B is the real amp and A is the line 6. Both sounded good and valid in a mix though, but I hear/feel a difference is in the low end here I think. I don't hear much of a fizz difference, which is impressive.
A is the tube amp on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and B is the tube amp on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Sundays are dealer’s choice so that the worship players get to choose how much to carry to church. I’ll see myself out! Please tip your wait staff.
My thoughts are: it doesn't really matter which one is which, the differences are insignificant...in the 1-2% range . If you'd have to listen to this song half of it with A and the other half with B, but not knowing the idea behind it, you wouldn't hear a difference, no suspicion would jump at you. It would be just a good sounding song.
Yes!! Excited for this 😎I remember when I first got Native that I was a little bummed there weren't more options for Orange amplifiers. One of your videos actually helped nudge me to get my OR15 awhile back. What a great little amplifier. Cheers man!
In the full mix A sounds more defined and B sounds a little more forward in the mix which makes B sound like the modeler to my ears. But honestly, they're SO close sounding.
Digital, tubes, whatever. I find myself blending both all the time! We are so lucky to have so many good tools at our fingertips. It's truly a golden age of guitar gear. Love these blind comparisons!
Both amazing. And great playing. A = Tube Amp (just because I feel the sound is a little bit less "perfect", it "moves" a little bit more randomly, naturally... B = Helix
The difference are so minimal it doesnt matter so i’ll take a wild guess. A: Helix B: Amp As always, great video, great sounds, great presentation! You rock :)
A is Helix, B is Orange. A has more high end, which mostly is the way I can tell a difference. The day someone puts a high cut then I don't stand a chance telling the difference.
I’m Helix user and I hadn’t time to dial in new Rockerverb model yet and as always you nailed that tone, great comparison, today I’m gonna have fun with this one
I'm feeling like A is the Rockerverb and B is the modelling, it just has a touch more brightness and openness. But WOW has line 6 ever come light years since the days I was a teenager playing a Spider on insane mode in guitar stores! Can't go wrong with either one (though I am thirsty for a proper rockerverb)
I preferred A in the full mix, I found B a bit muddy there. Loved both tones when solo'd. I honestly think that they're close enough that it barely matters which is which. A tiny bit of post-EQ would get them even closer or have them sitting in the mix either way. The amp that Line 6 used as an example to model from would have had different tubes or biasing to the real amp from this example, which would also cause a slight variance in the sound.. They both have the Rockerverb character, I've heard 2 of the same amp compared before and heard the same kind of difference, so it may not even be a digital vs analog thing that we're hearing. Either way, great job by Line 6.
In the mix I liked A better, isolated I liked B better. Wasn’t expecting that. I don’t care which is which because it was damn near identical and I’m sure with a minor tweak that gap could be closed. Kudos line 6
A - Helix B - Orange would be my guess. I prefer A though, the extra mids make it sound more articulate and a slight mid cut would make it sound almost identical to B. No matter the result, both sound great so good stuff Line 6!
I'm wondering how this would translate when using the Orange & 4x12 and the Helix through solid state amp and the same 4x12. I had the Helix a while ago and I could tell the difference immediately. The real amp i more open, has insane push in the low frequencies which could not be replicated with the Helix. But in the mix, the difference is very minor, we're using a low and high cut anyways, which erases this major difference completely.
i feel real amps have a more compact tone than modellers. when i had a modeller, i had to cut the bottom and top to make if feel/sound more realistic. however, this demo was so well done on the helix, i feel A is wider and the helix, sounded killer though.
Wow, those are really close! I think B is the real amp just because there was a little more high-end content on the A clip but they both could easily be EQd to sound the same. I hope you'll share your Helix settings!
I'd guess that A is the real amp, I felt it had a little more variation in how the gain responded to the playing dynamics while B pretty much constantly sat at the same level of gain. B had a little less top end which I'd normally be surprised about from a modelling platform (as they often have that extra added digital high end) but this is an orange amp we're talking about and they can get pretty shrill sometimes!
I said to a friend of mine that I like to play these games, trying to know who is who and he answered that who cares if the riffs/songs are good!!! These days those small differences only concern to us because we are a freaks!! And as a freak I´d say that A is the real amp...but I wouldn´t bet my money!!
Nice video! Like all of yours. My ears tells me that probably the A sample is the tube amp and the B one is the Helix. Don't know if I'm right, but surely Helix did it very very well!
Would guess B is the real amp. To my ear its slightly darker sounding and some of the other models in helix are slightly brighter than their amp counterparts on the same settings. Both sound killer though and I've been having a lot of fun with this model since the firmware came out
A is the amp.. there is some nice low mid which is subtle but can be listened to, when the notes are being changed. The B sounds a little digitalley for that 500ms when that note switch is happening. Unless obviously if the EQs were messed with to make the modeler remove some highs..
Agree with the other two guesses. A) amp, B) plug. Due to the slight compression differences. However B seems a tad brighter which can also be a sign of a real amp in comparisons, so it’s hard to tell. The lower mids on A are plug-in-like. So either it’s A) amp, B) plug, and the real amp has the top rolled back a bit, or A) plug, and B) real, and the sim has lots of natural sounding compression. Either way they’re both close enough to use on a recording in place of each other.
I'm guessing B is the helix. They both sound basically the same though. I'm wondering how much mixing and editing you had to do to get them this close? Or is the cab/ ir having more impact on the frequencies?
I own the mk3 100w and my guess is B is the real amp. B seems to have the right attack. A sounds more squishy. I have never played the 50w mk3 though so this will be interesting to see the results.
the difference i hear is that A has slightly more high frequencies, which could either be because of tube saturation / overtones or just because it was EQed differently ever so slightly. So, my bet would be on A just because of that difference, but i d be happy to have either tone available to me :D
I’m not sure. What I do know is I like the more compressed, slightly off the top tone of B best. A has a high end sparkle sizzle that is almost a hair too much. As it’s usually modelers that have that fizzy high I would say A is the Helix but I’m fully prepared to be wrong. For the mix/song, I like B slightly better, whatever it is.
I prefer A in the mix, but listening to the soloed guitars, I'm not sure which is which. B has a touch more mud that makes it sound flatter in the mix. I'd be surprised though if A is the Helix.
If you look away from your phone or close your eyes so you can't see the A B, it just sounds like you're playing guitar.. it really doesn't matter which one you use live or recording, they both sound practically identical, and won't matter in a mix. No one is going to question whether it's a real amp or not.
Great test ; I would say B = real amp ; but what's the point... If we hesitate, it proves Line6 does a good job ; could you share your helix preset ? is it on the custom tone ? thank you.
A = Tube B = Helix But it’s so close at this point it doesn’t matter and I’m not even confident in my selection haha. Something about the harmonics in A makes me think it might be the tube amp.
They sound reaaaaaally similar. It’s just that A sounds a bit tighter than B. B has more low mids so it sounds a bit muddier in the mix compared to A, really subtle tho.
For me, listening on studio monitors, A has a sparkle & shimmer about it that is lively and engaging, B has more bottom end but the sound is disappointingly flat by direct comparison , I watched myself smile during the A sections and stop during the B sections, so it's quite notable. If A turns out to be the helix I'll be mightily impressed.
A does sound a bit tighter and more "perfect" around the edges so I'm guessing it's a Helix, so B is the real one imo, both sound good if you like that type of tone
I like A in the mix because of the low end definition, but like B because it sounds more like the real amp, especially when isolated. I’ve gone from real amps to modelers (specially line6) and now back to real amps, but I still have the Helix Native and HX Stomp), so I’ve spent a lot of time in both worlds. I’m guessing B is the real amp, but both sound incredible!
A sounds slightly more brash than b to my ears, and therefore I prefer b. I can't decide which one the helix is but I'll assume B. But I can guarantee whichever I picked will be wrong
Man, is there any chance you could offer these presets in the Helix on your webstore? They sound SO good, and I'd love to purchase them with the IR combo you've shown here! :)
do you pass on your patches? i've gone back to my mesa and soon a torpedo x for certain reasons of quiet playing needed live or recording. and, i love real valve tone and feel. still, you do an incredible job with these units.
A is the real amp. the typical orange mids are more present. the modeler is pretty good and close though, it has that characteristic presence in the highs
This really blown my mind!!!! I believe A is the real thing cause, to my ears sounds a bit more rounded and a tad less fizzy. But it's ridiculous how close it actually sounds. Great video, thank you :)
A is Helix. B is the amp. I can only describe A as very clinical and precise. Has a bit more of the chugg, as Ola would say. B is a bit more compressed and notes don’t ring out. I’d also say B is muddy and I prefer the clarity in A. Though I prefer some of th fizz that’s rolled off in B Regardless it’s so close, that they are nearly identical and if I didn’t listen to them next to each other, I never would have guessed.
I had a Rockerverb MK1 that I really loved except for the effects loop and reverb. I am not gelling with the Line 6 version just yet. I haven't spent much time with it tho I must admit. Love the new reverbs. Looking forward to hearing this vid of yours.
The only time I could clearly hear a difference is starting at 5:10 through 5:15 mark. Same for in the mix but same deal. A is clearer and B is warmer on that hanging note. That is the ONLY thing I can distinctly pick up as a difference overall. I have no clue what to think of what is what but lets just go with A Real and B Helix. I have no clue. Glad to own a Helix is all I can conclude definitively haha. Added bonus through that new Rat model on there and have some fun, I've been loving this update overall.
I have no clue. Through my Mackie HR824s the differences, especially in the mix are so small. A is a little tighter, but you really have to lean in for it. I like A better but no clue which is which. Amazing.
They sound really close. I prefer A, sounds more articulate to me. It would be very interesting seeing how you dial the tone on the helix to emulate the real amp. Cheers
Well s**t. No idea. On couple of occasions I heard some warble on B that I'm not a fan of, so I'm gonna say B is Helix, even though it could very well be the amp :D
WOW, the difference between the two is so small the difference is not significant enough--both sounded incredible. My guess is that B in the Helix. I own a helix floor, and I think I may have heard some reverb artifacts in B that I am used to hearing. I prefer A but as I said the difference is so little. I kinda hope I am wrong on my guess. Great video and demo. Bravo. I have not played with the new orange amp yet that is part of Helix 3.1
A has a bit more top-end. This could be because modelers like to hype the highs a bit.. but it could also be a 2% difference in the treble knob :P. Little edit/add: I think if you bought a 2nd or 3rd Rockerverb and do the same shootout, they will have the same differences. Small variations / tolerances in the components is enough to present these kind of differences in sound. In otherwords, no 5 of these amps will sound exactly the same, so how can you expect a modeler to sound exactly the same :).
A helix B orange, helix tends to have a slight mid honk in a lot of amps, thus i just imagine its the same with the rockerverb... I love it nonetheless... its hard to pick out. maybe they feel different to play but from just listening: i take any of them , sound equally good to me :)
I've got a Stomp and I'm already seeing it as a pedal killer......now it looks like being an amp killer too 😆 There was hardly any discernable difference between the 2 tracks, so, going on a hunch alone, I'm going to say that A was the Helix and B was the real amp, but I wouldn't put money on it....but I don't reckon anybody else would either 😎
Really love your point of view. Tube amps & modelers should just stand side by side. Both are great and have their ups and downs. Edit: Shit, I can‘t decide what‘s A or B 😂 It‘s so hard, but I would guess A is the real amp.
I guess A Helix B Orange B sounded a tad crisper to me with slightly more defined transients or sth. but let's be real, they are so close that it almost doesn't matter. Maybe the difference becomes more noticable with a cose to breakup sound.
Makes no sense to me. Everyone seens to be able to hear the diference between those 2 sounds, which sounds similar but are not the same, and thats the point. Telling which one is which depends if you know or not how the real amp sound like. For me, sounds like A has more depth than B, especially in mid and high end, which tells me that A is the real deal, but I have no idea how the real orange sounds like.
I think B was the real amp, but I like A just a touch more cause the top end was a little more clear. But I think that could've been addressed with some EQing either way. Regardless, this amp is just so incredible.
A seems to have a tighter low end, which would ordinarily make me think it was the real amp, but the latest firmware update seems to have really tightened up the low end on the helix amp models, so I'm not sure!
I'm with you. Prior to v3.10 I would've been more confident in B being Helix, but at this point I wouldn't bet anything on it. We really are reaching a convergence where, at least for recorded tones, even the most experienced ears can't reliably choose real vs. model.
A: Helix. B: real amp. I think I can hear more harmonics and a more complex granular overdrive in the mid-lows of B, while A has more, maybe, strange highs. Anyways, both in a mix and isolated, it's very hard to differentiate them. You make me get wishes of buying an HX Stomp, hahaha.
So, which one is which guys?? GUESS!! (insert evil laughter....)
Hi John ! Sweet tones (as always). I'd say B is the real amp and A is the line 6. Both sounded good and valid in a mix though, but I hear/feel a difference is in the low end here I think. I don't hear much of a fizz difference, which is impressive.
B-real
don't know, but A sound better. so that's that haha
Trick question they're both the insane channel on a Line 6 Spyder. You can't fool me
Great job Line 6!!! To me A is real amp, B is the Helix

A=Helix
B=Orange
The tightness in the low end of A led me to believe that it was the Helix, but I could be wrong.
Same here G Man
It's official, I now have no excuses for sounding bad. Welp time to practise
@@JimmyWatfordGuitar yup. Mandela effect got um replacing ‘c’ with ‘s’ lol, jk
Yes!! Excited for this 😎I remember when I first got Native that I was a little bummed there weren't more options for Orange amplifiers. One of your videos actually helped nudge me to get my OR15 awhile back. What a great little amplifier. Cheers man!

Yes, that's also my thought. A is more defined. But I'm not sure if that makes B the modeler.
These are so close to one another. I'm gonna say A is the real Orange just for the heck of it.
Agreed
They are very close but I prefer the sound of amp A, it seemed a little more defined and controlled. Both sound awesome !
Digital, tubes, whatever. I find myself blending both all the time! We are so lucky to have so many good tools at our fingertips. It's truly a golden age of guitar gear.
Love these blind comparisons!
Preach!
Seriously this guy has the best videos
I'd be curious to see these put in and out of phase of each other just to see how close they actually are
Yes! That would be super interesting.
I am curious too!
Awesome idea!!
I'm guessing A is the Helix, and B is the amp. But damn, that sounded really close! Could be either of them
I can’t tell. They’re so close that it’s next to impossible.
Both amazing. And great playing.
A = Tube Amp (just because I feel the sound is a little bit less "perfect", it "moves" a little bit more randomly, naturally...
B = Helix
The difference are so minimal it doesnt matter so i’ll take a wild guess.
A: Helix

A real Rockerverb is a delight!

Greatv tone with both. Cant complain about that whichever one is the Helix.
In the mix I liked A better, isolated I liked B better. Wasn’t expecting that. I don’t care which is which because it was damn near identical and I’m sure with a minor tweak that gap could be closed. Kudos line 6

i feel real amps have a more compact tone than modellers. when i had a modeller, i had to cut the bottom and top to make if feel/sound more realistic. however, this demo was so well done on the helix, i feel A is wider and the helix, sounded killer though.

Increbily close! My guess is A is the tube amp and B Helix, but I am not sure.
CAN you please share that Pach..! it sounds awesome ! I like the A sound the best so i hope it is da Mighty HELIX
The differences are so minute that it's just a 50/50 guess. I'll guess B was the Helix Native just because there was some slightly gainier treble.
I said to a friend of mine that I like to play these games, trying to know who is who and he answered that who cares if the riffs/songs are good!!! These days those small differences only concern to us because we are a freaks!! And as a freak I´d say that A is the real amp...but I wouldn´t bet my money!!

I guess that A is the real one. They're really close, and they both slay!
line 6 and orange! team work makes the dream work.
Much like yourself I'm an "Amp" guy. But I'm always amazed how good the Helix is. As for tones.... Couldn't tell. Awesome
Damn, no clue about which is which, great job. Now compare it with the same cab/mic as the IR.
I prefer A in the mix, but listening to the soloed guitars, I'm not sure which is which. B has a touch more mud that makes it sound flatter in the mix. I'd be surprised though if A is the Helix.
A is helix B is Orange. The orange has more depth and a warmer tone to it
You always have the hottest riffs and great comparison videos. How long did it take to get both sounding so close?
Thanks! About 10 minutes or so. The controls on the amp and model are very simple
If you look away from your phone or close your eyes so you can't see the A B, it just sounds like you're playing guitar.. it really doesn't matter which one you use live or recording, they both sound practically identical, and won't matter in a mix. I hear slightly more clarity in the top end on A, but they're incredibly similar. Since I slightly prefer A, I'm going to guess (hope) it's the Helix.
Awesome tones. I think "A" was the Helix, as it sounded a little clearer in the mix, and I preferred that.
They sound reaaaaaally similar. It’s just that A sounds a bit tighter than B. B has more low mids so it sounds a bit muddier in the mix compared to A, really subtle tho.

So close but I hear a bit more compression on the lower notes on B
A: Amp

I know I'm late to the party but I am going to say A is definitely the real deal. There is a pushed midrange and lack of air/bite in B.
They sound really close. I prefer A, sounds more articulate to me. It would be very interesting seeing how you dial the tone on the helix to emulate the real amp. Cheers
I think A is the real amp and B is the Helix, they are so close tho.. Thanks for the great comparison vid.
Well s**t.
I think A is the Helix and B is the amp, but hats off to Line 6 they are so close either way.
I think A is the Helix, and B is the real amp. B just has that natural low-end that a real amp seems to produce. But both are close.
I've got a Stomp and I'm already seeing it as a pedal killer......now it looks like being an amp killer too 😆
There was hardly any discernable difference between the 2 tracks, so, going on a hunch alone, I'm going to say that A was the Helix and B was the real amp, but I wouldn't put money on it....but I don't reckon anybody else would either 😎
Really love your point of view. Tube amps & modelers should just stand side by side. Both are great and have their ups and downs.
Edit: Shit, I can‘t decide what‘s A or B 😂 It‘s so hard, but I would guess A is the real amp.
I guess
A Helix
B Orange
B sounded a tad crisper to me with slightly more defined transients or sth.
but let's be real, they are so close that it almost doesn't matter.
I doesn't matter man, it just doesn't. The amp doubles as heating in the winter tho
We really are reaching a convergence where, at least for recorded tones, even the most experienced ears can't reliably choose real vs. model.
I think A sounded the best, more clear with more defenition. I hope it's the Orange amp but if i had to bet, i think A was the Helix.
Dunno which is which but I like B more
Where do I find the results / answer? I think B is the modeler
A sounds slightly better through my Soundmagic e11 earphones so that has to be the real amp right?
