The film series is twofold: GB1 & 2 are the classics and GB3 & 4 are for the new generation and legacy fans. The remake was an unwanted failure and the sooner we all stop talking about it, the better. The video games, cartoons, and comics all make for a great expanded universe. The franchise could have been very different in the 90's if Murray hadn't stalled things with his feud with Ramis and his Andy Kaufman inspired Murray Myth bullshit. Going forward, we should let the movies rest and hope for a new animated series the encapsulates the series the way RGB did but with on point character likenesses, well rounded stories, and the unique humor that made Ghostbusters unique.

    Ghostbusters Afterlife - 5/10
    Ghostbusters Frozen Empire - 3/10
Ghostbusters is a great movie but as a franchise it's poor. This property has been terribly managed. A series of lackluster sequels which have got progressively worse, decades of inactivity in which nothing was produced and a dire remake which should never have been greenlit in the first place. Ghostbusters is an amazing concept, full of potential but the studio don't seem to have a clue what they're doing.

I think at this point in time, animation would serve Ghostbusters better than live action. The best thing about Ghostbusters was the characters. It was those four guys. You can't just put anyone in a jumpsuit and expect it to work, and in my opinion it hasn't worked. I just don't care for any of these new characters. They pale in comparison to the original team. They're very bland characters. They don't have the personality, charisma or chemistry that the originals had. By creating an animated film you can set the story in the past and reintroduce the original team in their prime. With the right style of animation and some good voice acting I think it could be great. One of the great things about animation is that the characters never have to age, so the studio could just keep making sequels starring the original team and there would be no need to replace them.
