I fucking love the final cutscene, it's so funny to me watching Deogracias hold the Penitent One's foot while Crisanta literally carries the rest of the body; like go, king, give us nothing
Its also indicates they gain power by prayer. So the entity tiself may have been a manifeststion of human mental nature. Gaining a directive when the twisted one wish for penitance. Thus then begining a circle of pain and guilt. Not much diferent than before really, just more bizzare.
honestly the people who made this really know how to make a good story. truly is a shame that im not equally as good at trying to find it through gameplay.
Yeah, man. It's really difficult to keep track of what the description and lore page of each item says. Then when you add some throwaway dialogue said by a character that you've forgotten about (Like, for example, Deogracias saying that Esdras could hear Perpetua after she died - I nearly forgot about that and nearly put another clip in that part of the video instead), it gets even worse. Honestly though, I would take story telling like this over something like Dead Cells where it's completely random. Trying to understand the lore of that game suuuuuucks. I could play for an hour and get absolutely none of the background I need to understand things cause the game didn't give me the lore room or level blurb that explains things. Plus, since it's all random, it always feels like there's something I'm missing... Lol Anyways, thanks for watching, man. I appreciate it! :)
The story of the game is based on the blood story surrounding Spanish Catholicism Asking a very controversial question regarding beliefs, why would a god who loves us force us to shed blood in his name? certainly fascinating themes and narrative
The Twisted One: "Maaaannn, I feel really shitty that I have all this guilt in me, but can't really suffer enough to make up for it. I wish there was a way where even I masochistic idiot would feel like I suffered enough." The High Wills: "Hey man, we might be able to help. See, we are some sadistic fucks who really like to see people eternily suffer for our enjoyment. So if ya need suffering, we will give it to you. Hell, we'll give it to everyone who begs us hard enough for it. We may just let you believers then march forever towards a non-existent heaven in this grey ass wasteland when you die just for the fun of it. Sounds good? The Fourth Visage: "Hold a minute, ok?! What the fuck? Seriously?! What the hell is wrong with all of you?! Someone really needs to see and stop this shit!"
laudes: damn. that twisted one is such a G. and sexy too. i want him so bad but i don't wanna look like a thirst trap. so i'll created these 4 hot chicks to serve as his guards while he is being painful and awesome. high wills: wait a tick. do you love this twisted dude more than us? laudes: yes. high wills: BANISH THAT BITCH TO THE SHADOW REALM!
You know I kept on asking myself why the high wills made it so that the penitent one would absorb all the guilt in the world and temporally end the cycle of penience only to make Crisanta restart the cycle, beyond just continuing penitence and then an idea hit me while I was literally in the shower, and that was because the suffering was no longer true suffering. As time went on the shock and pain that initially came with the start of the cycle of penience faded, people grew used to the pain and suffering and because they knew nothing else they didn't suffer the same way they did at the start, they began seeing it as holy not horrific, common not cruel. Life, living, and death became synonymous with pain, penience, and suffering, and because of this the pain and suffering the high wills received was not true suffering and the high wills found that if something was not done to reinvigorate the pain they wouldn't be able to feed on it, so how do you make people who knew only pain and suffering feel true suffering once again? Simple, you give them hope of something more, and thus they created the Penitent One, a champion who would take all the guilt and pain of the world and take it upon himself and save everyone, giving them a taste of life beyond the cycle of penience. Then they allowed that hope and relief to spread to let people feel freedom, then when they felt enough time for hope and relief to take root had occurred, they ordered Crisanta to reignite the cycle of penience, and the people, after a feeling of respite, felt true pain and suffering once again, along with horror and despair. This would create true suffering that the high wills could feed off of and as time wore on and that hope was forgotten, they would choose another to rekindle it. The best part for the high wills is that the miracle wouldn't be blamed, after all it was by the will of the miracle that the cycle was ended by a chosen penitent one, but after a time there would always come a "heretic" or "heathen" who would defy the will of the miracle and restart the cycle thus insuring that penience was eternal.
Yea it makes so much sense. Like the poem: Had I not seen the Sun I could have borne the shade But Light a newer Wilderness My Wilderness has made- Emily Dickinson
So, maybe, in the true ending of the base game, Crisanta removes the sword from the Penitent One's chest because the plan of the Miracle was to separate them, since the sword was probably the only way for someone to oppose it. Since Crisanta was still under the visage, she was still being controlled by the Miracle and now that it's only oppositor sealed himeself on the throne, the Miracle was able to get rid of the only tool capable of killing it, giving it to someone completely under it's control...
Ultimate wills: "You will be cursed forever, for this act you are about to commit is the ultimate sin and all the people on the world will hates you for it." Penitent one: "jokes on you, this is a homicide-suicide, bitches!"
Me neither! Very excited to see what they have in store. I'm not even going to guess at what they're going to try and do. All I know is that it's going to be crazy. Lol. Thanks for watching!
I'm just hoping they tone down some of the dialog and the melodrama. They had to rewrite the dialog twice because they just kind of lay it on a bit thick sometimes. If you didn't play back in 1.0 you have no idea how ridiculous it was. It was straight up overwhelming.
"You know what? Since the last martyr turned out soooo well, let's make another to kill himself and act like that made it so people stop suffering. Maybe we'll just wait a few years and start up the suffering again." *One action packed adventure later, said Martyr is figuratively kicking down their door with the power of friendship.* *Cue the Old Spice jingle.*
Crisanta: This ends now Penitent One, I'm tasked with defending the Father what says you? Penitent One: ... Crisanta: You are truly a brother of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrows Penitent One talking to himself internally: A girl is talking to me! What do I do?! She's so pretty! Apparently there is something up above the place where you fight High Wills. Even these things can't look at it, their eyes bleed gold from just glancing at it. So... The thing from even higher than path of procession is doing something. Hell, maybe it's Custodia's version of Idea of Evil
Hooo boy, just imagine that. Crisanta, as a result of her actions, ends up being pushed to the absolute breaking point, only to discover that a crimson bead on her rosery is a Beherit. Not sure what she'd sacrafice, but the results would be...impressive?
@@marcusreading3783 If i'm not mistaken, here actually is an item in the game that is described as being a Behelith, as a way of honoring Kentaro Miura. The description of it is "Thank you for everything, Master".
the high wills "well y'see, now that you know we're just some sick fucks, we can't let you walk away unscathed. " the pentient one who breaks his vow of silence: "that's okay, i plan on dragging you three stooges down to hell with me."
Crisanta drawing her sword as she steps in next to him: "The task may be steep but you have my sword on your side." Deogracias: "And my ropes." Gimli: "And my axe!" All others, including the High Wills: "WHAT THE FU-?!!"
Wasn’t the reason for the High Will’s golden tears was the fact that there is an even higher entity above them, who’s glory and power was so great that it made their eyes bleed gold?
@@arbiter1er The Miracle IS their voice, they said so. What they also say is that the Eternal Procession is even older than them, and that the pale light of the realm where they exist is what hurts their eyes.
Seeing happy endings in souls-like games is... Just so jarring after having fought so much and felt so much pain through the levels- But it makes things feel worth it.
Honestly, I prefer how Soulslike games nowadays are providing endings like this. I spent countless hours bashing my head against a wall, the reward had better be more worthwhile than choosing whether or not to maintain the status quo (or on rare occasions simply screwing off with nothing to show for it)
I had such trouble understanding the plot of this game, and the motivations of the characters, but luckily I found my way to this channel. Merciful be the heart, Penitent One.
Because its based on religion. If nothing is 100% original cause everything takes parts from other things then the only original story and the source every story takes parts from is the Bible.
I just recently completed the game and absolutely loved it! But here's my take on the end credits scene of Wounds of Eventide. I don't think that was the penitent one reborn. With the footage that you showed again, the heart and the person looked absolutely massive when compared to the city below them on my perspective. I think this was a last ditch effort of the High Wills to take back control of Custodia by making another holy avatar of some kind and raze the City just to force the people of worship again. And with another presence of a higher being, this could wake the Penitent one from his slumber since, if his purpose is truly done, his body would have been dust like the Twisted one. Meaning he is merely slumbering from that coffin...until the land needs to be freed once again from the control of the High Wills. Sorry this was a long one, but this is just a theory, fantastic video explanation dude!
Well it looks like you were right. It seems the penitent one has made a pact of some sort. Wherever the miracle goes. He goes to stop it. Even though in doing so he slumbers and dies again
Practice makes perfect, I guess. I think I could still use a lot more work though. Trying my best to get better! Thank you for the compliment though! I really appreciate it! And Thanks for watching!
They do. "Penitent One, does not the pale, still light of this vast horizon hurt your eyes? Of this procession, *more ancient than us*, that extends out before you without end nor beginning?" Maybe something else lives there. Maybe we'll see that in Blasphemous II
@@SquatchGamingChannel if i had to guess that place spawns higher beings naturally. And the heart egg man is latests incarnation But will need to wait and see
Its said "God are born from human heart, humans needs and human minds, when needed they would surge forward, but as children of human themselves would only perpetuet the aspect that give it birth". Basicly, human cause pain, so a god of pain surge forward, now a heart surge in the sky. Could be kidness, release and/or love of finally ending the pain of the miracle that give birth to this entity? Could be the will of just 1 penitent person have done it?
@@ericquiabazza2608 i would guess that that place is where a strong will manifests, and once manifested they can make a feedback loop manifesting their powers in the realm of the living. If this is true that new being in the beating heart is a new god born from the will of the people of Cvstodia in the image of the penitent one, this fulfiling that last curse the High Wills placed upon the Penitent, if this new Will is as fickle and pridefull as the last 3wills, he will cause havoc trough new mircles thus gaining the hate from the Cvstodians
I don't think it's the dying throughout the game which means The Penitent One ends up dying at the end, as it still happens if you do an ironman run. Cvstodia kills him in the prequel comic, and thus he was dead at the start of the game technically.
a perfect narration of this masterpiece!! congratulations!!! It really made me appreciate the game to a new level.. thinking of getting a Blasphemous tattoo now
This is easily my favorite metroidvania and 2d game of all time. I was looking forward to this video cause I was still a little dumbfounded by a few elements of this update. Great video and end to the story. Can’t wait to see you again if or when you cover Blasphemous II.
Yeah, there's some stuff that's vague regarding the background (some good examples being whether Crisanta was given the Fourth Wound before or after the Fourth Visage's banishment and the contradictory nature of her penance), but I think I was able to straighten it out. Even if it's not 100% accurate, I think it's mostly accurate. Lol. Happy to hear you enjoyed it though, man, and thanks for watching! I will definitely be covering Blasphemous II when it comes out (unless something happens that makes me have to stop making videos), so you can expect more videos then! :)
This is an excellent and incredibly detailed summary! Thank you for making this! It must’ve taken a lot of effort to consolidate all the lore sprinkled throughout the game in such an easy to follow format.
Thank you very much! It wasn't so bad this time around since I already had an understanding of things and the DLC didn't add too much, but the first time around (summarizing the original story) was pretty difficult and I honestly struggled to get my head wrapped around everything. I even had that happen with this one a bit. Lol. But happy to hear it's easy to understand everything! Thanks for watching!
Blasphemous is the most complicated, interesting lore to a game I think I've ever come across. Something like 40k or Elder Scrolls obviously has more in-depth or lengthy lore but this random indie game has a narrative so spiritual and psychologically thoughtful it transcends its genre and form.
I found this game on a whim when PlayStation dropped their new game pass service. Man I’m so glad I tried it. I’ve been OBSESSED. it’s not reinventing the wheel or anything, but it’s pretty much a perfect game by every measure. I wish I could play games like this for the rest of my life. So much time and love went into this project, and you can really feel it when you’re absorbed into the games story.
came here before the launch of Blasphemous 2 to give myself a recap of the events from the first game. Now that everything is clear, I'll enjoy the game, which launches in roughly 30 minutes from now, on a much deeper level thanks to you. Great video and happy Penance to all!
I've watched part 1, your video is the clearest and easiest to understand the story in this game, thank you for your hard work in assembling each part of the story into one complete whole
This was just AMAZING!! Very well written, voiced, and edited together video!! I really Enjoyed this short Documentary of Blasphemous!! I was dissapointed when it ended!
Thank you very much! Unfortunately, I think this will be it for the game until Blasphemous II comes out, but rest assured that there will be something made on that! :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks to the yt algorithm, I would’ve never found out about this game. It was nice to watch multiple videos that explained and explored the story of Blasphemous, the cutscenes and gameplay. I may never have the chance to play this game, but i enjoyed the story nonetheless, something not seen (often) in games since before 2000. The writing and the story behind this game is brilliant, to say the least.
Oh damnit I just finished the game and now realizing that I have to get the golden eyes again on a higher difficulty in ng+. Was wondering why they have no use. These two battles were hard enough as they are. It was my first playthrough so I had now idea about all that. Kinda sucks that you can mess up an ending, which is confusing in a metroidvania game where free exploration is part of the fun. Anyway best video I've seen so far on this topic. Keep it up!
I got sidetracked with my last comment I wanted to thank you for explaining the story of the base game and the dlc, I started watching another video but the way the person was explaining things just wasn't doing it for me, listening to you was like watching a movie and it was extremely easy to understand so that you so much because I have blasphemous 2 and was about to start playing and I didn't understand the starting cutscenes so I instantly quit and thankfully found your great content, subbing 100%
You're welcome, man! Happy I could help! I totally feel you with the language used making it hard to understand the story. I definitely expanded my vocabulary by making these. Lol. Thanks so much for watching! Also, I just released a video for Blasphemous 2, so after you beat the second game, you can come back around and watch my video on that, if you'd like! Thanks again for watching and thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Haha. Sorry about the wait! I'm only one guy and there was another video I wanted to get out first! Hope the wait was worth it! Thanks so much for being patient and thanks for watching! :)
Wow, before I thought the miracle was a messed up divine presence that reveled in suffering and pain, but now I see the truth... It’s a divine presence that revels and _strengthens_ in suffering and pain. ... and now, The Penitent One Murders God, the romantic comedy.
holy hell thanks dude i just got game and fell in love immediately and from the little i understood the story seemed so interesting. loved your hotline miami videos they were excellent.
I had a very similar experience! I saw the trailer to this game, and I knew I had to play it! I've never played another game with the setting and style like this one, and I'm so happy I played this. It's freakin great. Thanks so much for watching this and the Hotline Miami videos, man! I appreciate it! Happy to hear you enjoyed them! :)
Wooooo that was a fantastic story. Oh how i wish they had the funds to turn this into a even more horrifyingly beautiful series. The artwork and design of the levels to the enemy design is just amazing.
Maybe the penitent one was revived by the fourth visage or maybe we will see a plot twist and the fourth visage is the new miracle reborn. A lot of possibilities.
I had to kind of fill in the blanks for some of the background in the DLC/game (mainly Crisanta's new penance and the timing of the Traitor's actions), so this may not be 100% accurate, but it's mostly there. Lol. Hope that doesn't bother people too much if it's wrong! Also, I'm trying something new with the title for this one. Might use that format for the rest of the videos moving forward as I think it captures the spirit of what these videos are better than "Story Summary." Will probably do a poll in a few days asking people's opinion on the change. Lastly, since I'm American, I'm sure I butchered the pronunciation of some of the names (or even other words that aren't Spanish). Feel free to make fun of my pronunciation here. Thanks for watching!
I think the title works fine, not sure if it would be a good idea to change the old ones as well, half for old viewers coming back maybe struggling to find it, which is les important, mostly because its good to see where these videos started and how they evolved, if you did change the titles maybe you could leave a tidbit in their descriptions denoting the former title Whatever you do, I like the new titles, definitely feels more natural ^+^
What you mention is partly why I'm hesitant on making the change: it's a "Brand Change" if that makes sense. All my Story videos (at least the ones that focus on the main story of the game) have "Story Summary" in their title, so I feel like they're synonymous with that type of content, and I worry that a "Brand Change" would hurt the traffic to the videos and the Channel (even though it would probably help in the long run). Ultimately, I think I will make the change, but still want to hear people's voices on it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, man!
@@SquatchGamingChannel I prefer this new style of naming, it fits better and gives a less ”clinical” feel than the previous title. English is not my first language, so I hope my point was understandable. Loved the video and the previous ones! Btw, I loved this new DLC, a truly fitting ending to such a Dark and epic tale. This new ending was a much more fitting and satisfying ending. The true ending before felt as nothing but perpetuation of what I felt we were trying to stop and this dlc confirmed that!

@@orbitalbutt6757 It's all right, the pronunciation was not as bad as some other channels. Heard someone call it the 'apoplectic' heart of Mea Culpa. That's an angry sword, let me tell you.
What really makes games like Blasphemous work for me, is the very big heart they have beating under the gory and often dreadful surface. When the game presents this awful and cruel world that seems without hope, then gives you a chance to give the NPC small moments of joy. It tells you that even in the darkest places, there is light and that light doesn't have to be from the Miracle. As such, the ending serves as a culmination of all of the small acts of kindness the Penitent One has done. Yes, they will sacrifice themselves, yes they will die and be forever cursed? But the freedom of the people of Custodia is worth it.
The High Wills ultimate goal leads me to believe the man we see gestating was something they were trying to create, an ultimate servant to be the "Father" perhaps in case the penitent one failed. Something of a mortal manifestation of the High Wills. Perhaps the original "Good" ending implies the creature eventually is birthed regardless and Mia Culpa was needed to slay it.

damn watching this video is sooo goshdarn good and amazing on how you figured it out the plot points of the wounds of eventide story dlc. and also the recap of the main game!!!, and I also cant wait for blasphemous 2 has in store for us fans T_T
Excellent storytelling! I can tell how hard it is to piece the lore of this DLC just from the sheer callbacks/points you made in this video.. so many aspects to refer back that might get lost in descriptions, etc. But you managed to make it cohesive! 👌 But i wonder, how do you feel about the wildly different feel the story takes in this DLC? i don't play the game but from what i gathered through your Blasphemous videos, the Penitent One feels very different in here. For a man so ruthlessly devoted to his faith as seen in the base game, and having that crazy devoted charm to him (dont judge, i like masked obsessed characters haha) Penitent One sure is awfully open to the "heretical voices" that urges him to go against his faith. I feel like he turns around too willingly and too quickly, he feels like a different character altogether. TL;DR The DLC's tone feels so different from the base game and i don't know how to feel about it haha
It's kind of a double edged sword for me personally. I really liked the DLC as a whole. The bosses were fun to fight against (except Isidora, ugh), and I feel like the Wounds of Eventide ending fits the "Blasphemous" title/theme more than the original one. Plus, since the story was told largely the same way as it was previously, it still felt like Blasphemous, and more Blasphemous is always good for me! But to say I'm 100% happy with it would be disingenuous. It feels like they weren't happy with the direction of the story they chose to go in originally and decided to pivot to this new one, but the pivot feels very much like a revamp, and in the rush to pivot/revamp, I feel like they stumbled quite a bit with the telling of the story (you've mentioned a few missteps and another commenter, Demiurgus, pointed out a few more). I wish they would have spent more time fleshing out the skeptical part of Custodia by showing other characters who had doubt in the Miracle or at least hinting at them in the Lore of some Items to make the Penitent One's decision less jarring. The way it is, it feels very out of place that anyone, much less the Miracle's Champion, would choose to stand against the Miracle/High Wills. Hopefully the developers are aware of these issues, and did what they could to mitigate them in the development of the DLC, and will also work harder to prevent this from coming up in Blasphemous II. Just my personal feelings about it! Thanks for asking! And Thanks for watching! :)
@@SquatchGamingChannel Take in accout they almost dont release the game due economic strains. They basically reached a point in time where they had to say "this is what we got, lets fix and polish it and that will be the game". Same happened with the spanish voices. Later, when they could afford it, they just made the game more fitting into their original vision of it
Loved this video. I'll admit I have not played as I have no time so thank you for the sum up, I love good tales. I will pick it up, not to play, but to support the creators. So, forgive my ignorance. I...have a bit of a fan theory. The Three Wills mentioned the had a finite "beginning" point. That, coupled with the fact no mention of prayer seems to be brought up before The Twisted One, I propose two possibilities. 1. "Prayer" created The Three Wills. 2. C.W.A. (Can't spell her name, sorry.) is the reason behind the cocoon. This does not address some plots I am aware of, such as how the Endless Procession has been in existence since prior to The Three Wills but this could be maybe be solved with those with more knowledge. Feel free to help me better understand if I am off.
That's last scene with the man in the cocoon, I'm a say that its the Penitent one reborn from the faith of those he saved (Custodia). Even though the High Wills were destroyed, how do we know that wasn't one form of them? They could have many forms, one more powerful than the other. What if there is an even greater power, above the High Wills? High Courage? High Wisdom? I mean, I'm just speculating but it's a very interesting story and I enjoyed every minute of it. Bring on "Blasphemous 2: Ashes of the Penitent One" :)
Escribar got resurrected in the next plain of existence but it is by the power of the Miracle. I guess there's always gotta be the Miracle overseeing Custodia and perhaps the Penitent One would replace it.
If I had to guess that last part. Maybe since the miracle had left Custodia, the people of the land attempted to direct their attention to possibly other deities. Just a thought, but the implications alone make you think 🤔
That is a good idea! After all, the High Wills imply that the Land of Endless Processions is older than them. Maybe something else lives there and has turned its eyes to Custodia. I've heard other people theorize that the person is the Miracle/High Wills manifested as a person. Maybe a sort of Anti-Christ, and it's up to Custodia's savior to fight them off. We'll have to see! Lol. Thanks for watching!
@@SquatchGamingChannel Anytime! You do amazing work. But I'd like to guess if we see people discovering Gods more an ancient then that of the Miracle. @@SquatchGamingChannel Don´t mention it, in my experience, creators need the feedback to keep going, good or bad ^^ How did you start? How do you sift through, what must sometimes be 100s of pages of theory and piece it together? Blasphemous must´ve been a tough one; the story - it is vague at best D: Sorry for prying, but creators have a tendency to never respond, so this caught me a bit off guard xD
You're not prying at all! I love to talk about the channel and my journey through the years (I don't like to bore people with it in my personal life if they don't ask about it, so I don't get a lot of opportunities to talk about it), so I love your questions! I'll try to sum it all up quickly so I don't talking your ear off. Lol. I was originally inspired to start making videos after I started Achievement Hunter in 2012 when I was 18. Seeing them get attention, and best of all, PAID, to just get together, play video games, and have fun with their friends was like a dream come true, and this Channel was originally supposed to be an achievement/trophy guide/Let's Play channel like theirs (hence the dumb name). However, unlike the guys at Achievement Hunter, who had Geoff from RvB or Gavin from SlowMoGuys, I and my friends were nobodies (it wasn't just me that made videos for the channel originally), and generally speaking, people don't watch nobodies play games. Since that didn't work out, me and a friend of mine, Leo, experimented with a bunch of different video styles over the next couple years. I'd always enjoyed explaining things to people to help them understand stuff, so when Hotline Miami 2 came out, I had the idea to put the events of the game in Chronological order while I narrated the events. This was the main driver of traffic and interest in the channel for *months*, but stupid-me didn't recognize what made the video so popular (which was explaining the *story* of the game). Instead, inspired by The Game Theorists, I started explaining things about the *background* of games - things like their real life inspirations and how their mechanics would work in real life. This is the Game Connections series on the channel, and it did okay (especially for a small timer), but I still wasn't getting what I wanted out of the channel. Then, over a year after I originally posted it, someone so graciously clued me into the reason that so many people were watching the Hotline Miami 2 video, and said they'd love to hear me explain the story to the first game. I did, and when that generated traffic and interest, things finally clicked in my brain. After trying to do a story series for Destiny (which went nowhere), I posted a comment on the Hotline Miami 2 video asking people if they'd like to see videos on other topics of the game, and one of them said something along the lines of "Dude, I've been waiting for you to do this for a long time". That kicked off my series of videos on Hotline Miami, which led to me doing what I'm doing now. Hope that wasn't too long winded for you! And it's only just now that I'm realizing that you probably meant "How did you start the process of summarizing the story for these games?" Lmao. As for the making of these videos, yes, it is *quite* a process. Some of them are easier to make (Katana Zero and Hotline Miami are pretty straight forward) whereas others are much more difficult (Dead Cells because of the randomness and Blasphemous). I usually start by doing a recap of what we the player experience as the story, working backwards to establish character motivations and reason for why certain events happen and referring to lore and stuff as I need to to fill in the blanks. What is amazingly helpful is having some sort of repository of information that I can refer to to put the events of the story together in my brain. Easily, my most used resource is the fandom wiki pages for the various games (wouldn't have been able to do a lot of the games without them), but I use other things as well (other people's playthroughs of the games are super helpful and some games have some files in their config that are helpful, like The Tarnishing of Juxtia, which I'm working on now, has the dialogue of all its characters and item descriptions of all its items in files of the config of the game). I honestly try not to theorize too much because I want the video to be an accurate representation of the story as it's supposed to be which isn't always feasible and sometimes I have to theorize to fill in the blanks (which annoys me and some viewers sometimes), but I try to leave those spots open ended and vague enough that people watching recognize that it's not super clear what happened at those moments (Risk of Rain's story is a good example of this as well as the outcome of Jacket and Biker's fight in Hotline Miami). Then, when I've got it all together, it's just putting in the time and the work, and these take a long time and a lot of work. To give some perspective, I received a copy of The Tarnishing of Juxtia 3 weeks ago, and I'm still working on editing the video for it. My work on The Darkest Dungeon is even longer: I have over 100 hours in the game, and I still don't have all the shots I need to start working on the video, not to mention the amount of hours I've spent going over the lore and working on the script (which isn't even close to done yet), and I'm a one man team, so everything, from playing the game, to gathering the info, to writing the script, to capturing footage, to editing the video, is all done by me, and I still have real world responsibilities (wife, family, job, chores, etc), that makes it take even longer. Despite all this though, I love making these videos, and even though I now recognize it will never be a full time job for me, I'll still keep doing it because it's fun and I like helping people understand stuff. Thanks for taking the time to read all this (if you did), and if you didn't, hey, it's all good. Hope you've enjoyed watching the things you have and hope you come back some time in the future to see what else I've made! :)
I played it for the first time as the last dlc came out, and by luck and intensive search i got the New ending and all without help, im really proud,. What a good game i will Pick up the sequel as soon as it is out
Happy to hear it! There will be more, but since I'm a one man team, it might be a while. The next video might not be until February - maybe late January if everything goes perfect. I can promise that there will be more though! :) Thanks for watching!
im finished this game twice, bad and true ending. still an old english words and tailoring lore by lore from an item make me overwhelmed. thanks to your good work i finally got a good grasp about the game story.
I feel like this DLC FIXES what was wrong with the game. The original plot was just kind of ridiculous. Your goal being to turn into a tree while sucking up to the obviously sadistic "miracle".
I actually liked the vagueness of the Miracle since it doesn't explain anything at all. It just gives you what you want in the most grotesque of ways. It isn't malicious nor benevolent so it's up to the person on how they will take it. It may seem that those at fault were the ones who abused it to gain power and influence over the people but now, it's revealed it is just some sadistic Great Ones who are evil because they can.
I fucking love the final cutscene, it's so funny to me watching Deogracias hold the Penitent One's foot while Crisanta literally carries the rest of the body; like go, king, give us nothing

How fitting that the higher powers that be turned out to be the most twisted characters in this game.

Lol
Anyways, thanks for watching, man. I appreciate it! :)

Always wanted to play this game it seems so bleak and morbid..whats scarry is that people feel that way about religion.
The other visages after seeing one of them banished: “You know what, fuck it we’re in”
hahahaha xD
Damn I never thought that
There something in that theory that reminds me a lot of Legacy of Kain.

The true ending becomes the actual bad ending in light of the DLC so that is pretty god damn neato

Seeing happy endings in souls-like games is... Just so jarring after having fought so much and felt so much pain through the levels- But it makes things feel worth it.
Well we don't know if its happy yet. Probably just bordering into bittersweet.
Well our protagonist is dead and there is huge beating heart in the sky with something inside. I don't think that's happy ending.
Why does this "random" game have better lore than most games, like this stuff is interesting as heck
Because its based on religion.
If nothing is 100% original cause everything takes parts from other things then the only original story and the source every story takes parts from is the Bible.
When you put it all together, it really hammers in how twisted the High Wills is.
Hehe… twisted… like the paths of the Miracle

I think the title works fine, not sure if it would be a good idea to change the old ones as well, half for old viewers coming back maybe struggling to find it, which is les important, mostly because its good to see where these videos started and how they evolved, if you did change the titles maybe you could leave a tidbit in their descriptions denoting the former title
Whatever you do, I like the new titles, definitely feels more natural ^+^
(slithers out of my filthy nest) I AM HERE TO TEDIOUSLY POINT OUT THAT IT’S NOT “MEE-A” CULPA ITS “MAY-A” CULPA, MAY AS IN MAY SOMEONE PLEASE SHOOT ME IN THE HEAD TO STOP ME FROM CONTINUING THIS MEWLING PEDANTRY PLEASE GOD JUST STOMP ON MY NECK
Been waiting so long for this! So glad it’s finally here :)))
Sorry about the wait! Hopefully the wait was worth it! :)
Thanks for watching!
Excelente narrative, i really enjoyed it! Thank you
The High Wills ultimate goal leads me to believe the man we see gestating was something they were trying to create, an ultimate servant to be the "Father" perhaps in case the penitent one failed.
Something of a mortal manifestation of the High Wills.
Perhaps the original "Good" ending implies the creature eventually is birthed regardless and Mia Culpa was needed to slay it.
Subbed. Thank you for this!
seeing this video was a mistake. now i have this little notification in the back of my mind telling me how much stuff i still need to do.
I was always interested in the story but never got a chance to play the actual game now I want to play the actual game.
This is wayy cooler when you're Sevillian and get all the references
Brahhhh I’m so pumped for this I have been waiting for a week
Sorry about the wait! Got to this as quickly as I could! Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! :)
@@SquatchGamingChannel please dont apologize all your lore videos take time because you put out 10/10 content i cant wait to see if you do the dead cells dlc coming out soon
Love it, can u make Videos for the bosses u not have done yet?
Like the Baby and the corpse
I knew this video was going to be good, great work my guy.
Thanks a lot, man! Happy to hear you enjoyed! :)
Youre up there with Vaatividya as someone who I get excited for every video they upload. You have such a fantastic speaking voice and explain things so well.
Huge fan, dude
Thanks a lot for the compliment, man, and for sharing how much you enjoy the videos. Really helps me stay motivated to keep making them, so I really appreciate it!
Don't really have an exact idea of what I want to do next, so it might be a while before the next video, but hopefully I can continue to make things you enjoy! :)
Thanks for watching!
@@SquatchGamingChannel yo do hollow knigh until blasphemous 2 comes out. It's coming next year in 2023.
Mossbag has Hollow Knight on lock. There's nothing of value I would add by talking about it (outside of possibly entertaining people that watched my videos) and I don't want me to become combative over the videos. Like I don't want people to attack me because I talked about a game their favorite UA-camr has already covered extensively. Maybe I'll do it sometime in the future, but I don't have anything planned for it right now.
Thanks for the request though! And Thanks for watching!
@@SquatchGamingChannel Mossbag is fantastic, too!
I do admire that about your content creation. Not that you won't cover something if it's popular but if you don't have anything meaningful to explain or add.
I will admit I learned about, and played, K/0, Mother Russia Bleeds and Deadbolt from you, because no one else I had seen had explained it like you!
@@SquatchGamingChannel Big fan sir and you're right about mossbag but we need u to do these story videos on some other games. And I'll be waiting for your videos on Blasphemous 2.
Wow! That was fast! Like really, the dlc just came out! Great vid!
For me, yeah, but TheInhumanOne beat me to the punch. He had multiple videos out just days after the release of the DLC! Lol.
But really, the video editing process went phenomenally for this. I think I had it all done within 3 days or so which is not normal. Lol. Happy I could get it out this early though! Hopefully the quality hasn't suffered too much!
Thanks for watching, man! Appreciate your continued support! :)
I returned to the game just short of beating it thinking that it ended with the the original two endings, turns out that last dlc added a lot, which would explain all the inconsistencies in my old save. Thanks for the recap and explaining everything in not ye old language so us less lore attuned could understand it.
damn watching this video is sooo goshdarn good and amazing on how you figured it out the plot points of the wounds of eventide story dlc. and also the recap of the main game!!!, and I also cant wait for blasphemous 2 has in store for us fans T_T
Thank you very much! Happy to hear you enjoyed! :)
Yes, Blasphemous II should be a wild ride! I can't wait!
Excellent storytelling! I can tell how hard it is to piece the lore of this DLC just from the sheer callbacks/points you made in this video.. so many aspects to refer back that might get lost in descriptions, etc. But you managed to make it cohesive! 👌
But i wonder, how do you feel about the wildly different feel the story takes in this DLC? i don't play the game but from what i gathered through your Blasphemous videos, the Penitent One feels very different in here.
I think it's satan
Since the High Wills are an allusion to God, it makes me wonder if there would be a Devil-equivalent in the sequel!
Penitent One A man who will do anything to release everyone form suffer and he success...Now that's Truth Miracle work
Thank you very much, this was pleasure to watch and listen to!
Thanks for this. I 100%'d the game before WoT came out, and really didn't want to do an entire playthrough to see the new stuff.
Thanks for this video. I now understand story better
Cristanta is the gigaest of chads in this story in my opinion
This is the best game ever thanks for your vids keep making them
Yeah, it really is a great game! Never played anything like it! :)
Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it!
If I had to guess that last part. Maybe since the miracle had left Custodia, the people of the land attempted to direct their attention to possibly other deities. Just a thought, but the implications alone make you think 🤔
Maybe this time they'll make a better choice than "The worst thing we could possibly find."
Maybe somthing with more of a Pagan or Azetc influence. That giant heart could be a reference to a satanic figure. But if you think about the idea if blood and heart sacrifice from primitive civilization, it could be a reference to that!
@@SquatchGamingChannel What are the chances that the locked up Visage is lying about what it wants? He got the sword *and its heart* together, then tasked the Penitent one with collecting guilt for the sword. What if the sword/heart is actually an incubator for the mystery entity? The ultimate sin was blasphemy against the High Wills. A sin they said was eternally unforgivable. Eternal sins have eternal guilt. Mea Culpa EATS guilt and converts it to power.
An excellent summary. Thank you for your hard work in putting this together.
Can you do one day The Messenger, recently I completed the game and it's a truly amazing game.
Yepp...m halfway done messenger. Check out Slain and Valfaris too I am also playing Slain

All the best and take care!
Thanks a ton, man! Always nice to hear when people enjoy the videos, so I really appreciate you! :)

@@SquatchGamingChannel Don´t mention it, in my experience, creators need the feedback to keep going, good or bad ^^ How did you start? How do you sift through, what must sometimes be 100s of pages of theory and piece it together?
Blasphemous must´ve been a tough one; the story - it is vague at best D:
Sorry for prying, but creators have a tendency to never respond, so this caught me a bit off guard xD

I've been really loving your content , Looking forward to seeing more .
Happy to hear it! There will be more, but since I'm a one man team, it might be a while. The next video might not be until February - maybe late January if everything goes perfect. I can promise that there will be more though! :)
Thanks for watching!
im finished this game twice, bad and true ending. still an old english words and tailoring lore by lore from an item make me overwhelmed. thanks to your good work i finally got a good grasp about the game story.
Thank you for this amazing video
