I must say I didn't realize that it was equipped with an impulse magneto (which also retards the timing for start). Nevertheless, one extra rotation before compression makes it quite a bit easier to start engines of this sort. It certainly helps old folk and people who lack arm strength. Clean air always helps, especially after a failed start attempt. Everyone has their own pet method, I suppose. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your comment. I should take some more video of it starting up. I enjoyed watch you 'start up' procedure. Q. the little handle you wind- is that a fuel priming pump? I have never seen that before. Cheers, C
These engines are designed to just tick over the compression stroke in order to start. The ignition system is designed to make an impulse as the piston reaches TDC. This function is disengaged as the engine starts because of the centrifugal weights inside the magnet. Gaining speed on the flywheel in order to start is therefore obsolete. As far as I know cleansing the air inside the combustion chamber will in no way aid starting. Cheers anyway ;)
I'm sure my technique could be improved, because these engines should be easier to start than what is evident in this video. Unfortunatly, this old work horse is again hospitalized because of faulty carborator and the paintjob giving way to the relentless raw climate of the Norwegian west coast where I live. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the video.
@TormodS76 Takk for kommentaren =).
Try backing the engine up until compression is felt, that way you get a cleansing stroke and a chance to get more speed of rotation because of the extra turn you gain.
@animatedsteel This engine is equiped with the "Bauer-Nilsen" lubricator. It was a stadard for virtually all norwegian engines in the past century. Before start-up I wind the handle to activate the internal pumps and prime the engine with oil in three specific areas. When running, these pumps are driven by the motion of the water pump-eccentric. Thx for your comment. CHEERS! :)
I have been offered to buy an old wooden boat from my neighbour. Perhaps if I have some extra money to spare I'll buy it and install this engine onboard. Only downside is the monumental gasoline consuption this engine has, 4l/h at idle speed.
Little need for extra ballast with this baby on board :) Thanks for watching. Someday I'll be posting a new video where I've installed the original carburettor on the engine.
Ja bym na początek spróbował zmielony pieprz i odrobinę majeranku zmieszał z keczupem i musztardą a potem to wszystko wciepał do środka i zakręcił ;) Może coś lepiej ruszy ;)
Alexander Kvale Mange takk.
wow! I guess these old brutts acted as a keel ballast at the same time.

Nice job there is nothing like the sound of an old low ram engine when it idles

Just showed up in my recommended videos.
I would love to have an old engine like that in a boat to cruise the rivers with.
Hi mate. This would be an excellent choice for that application. Nothing calms down the heartbeat like the sound of this at low RPM.
Cheers
Very nice, lovely oiler, running good.
Beautiful Engine
@Reece Gilbert The carb is indeed way more modern than the rest of the engine. I have obtained a more suitable carb that is under maintenance.
Thanks for your comment. I should take some more video of it starting up.

VERY nice!! Nice old tractor in the garage, by the way
fourforty RoadRunner Thank you, I'll make sure to relay your comment to my father. BTW, It's a Massey Fergusson 35, 1960-model.

Looking great mate run nice
+Cornish Engines Thanks bud :)
@gengnepal 4 stroke, the valvelifters are visible at 3:31

Utrulig fint restaurert.
To urządzenie potrzebuje ulepszeń :)
They built them solid back then.
With proper care, it'll last several lifetimes :)
bonito motor, le queda bien el verde
nice engine:)
runs nice
@37Flat Thank you :D
Excellent!
My favourite colour!
looks like you making coffee in the beginning
6 hp. / 600 lbs. The way things should be.

Najpierw trzeba zmielić troche pieprzu, potem dolać keczupu, potem zakręcic wielkim kołem a na końcu powinna wyskoczyć kanapka... coś tu nie działa :(
Ja bym na początek spróbował zmielony pieprz i odrobinę majeranku zmieszał z keczupem i musztardą a potem to wszystko wciepał do środka i zakręcił ;) Może coś lepiej ruszy ;)
4 stroke or 2 stroke?
Thanks :D
Hell yeah :D
Gracias ;)
Nice...
I call it the "BB" Back Breaker xD
Hay
Flott klenodium :)

swidish??....
lars gullqvist Nope, pure Norwegian :)
superiormusic ok Nice man i lov norweigan pepol. ..
Norge rocks.... xb
vakkert
fiffig!
Is it just me, but i see a modern carb. on that. what a cheater xD
