First of all; sorry for the poor video quality. It was the largest file sizes my system could handle
Second; I may upload a second video on the machining of other parts for this project. It's a slow process, between work and private life, but I'm confident this engine will be up and running (before the end of the decade!)

Tempo vs Sabb: difficult cold start

Two pieces of Norwegian engineering in beautiful harmony... I think. (Yes, I know I misspelled "Sabb" in the opening)
1940 Petter Lister 2 cylinder
Переглядів 7889 років тому
First successful start of a 1940 diesel engine for running a 7,5 KW / 110 Volt alternator. Still some problems with controlling the paralell adjustment of the injector pumps as is evident from the sound of the engine in the video. One cylinder cuts off before the other at idle speed.

1940 Marna B 6HP start & idle
Переглядів 286 тис.14 років тому
Starting up my Marna marine gasoline engine. It was unusually easy to start this time around, last time before winter hibernation. Before the restauration the engine had been sitting in a boathouse for the past 25 years or so. Lyckily the coolingwater jacket had been filled up with oil to prevent any corrotion for future repairs. It runs a little uneven due to a misadjusted carb.

lovely
Hello crime documentary enthusiast! New content is waiting for you. Watch it and share your thoughts. See you soon!
Just shows what a little imagination when you have limited tooling can do. Great job...
this is art What a treat to wake up to These videos are SO incredibly high quality and they just keep improving somehow, keep em coming hails from drauglur from germany
nice engine:)
Nice setup. I am a lathe machinist. Thank you
Thanks for the comment. I only wish I could upload the clips in higher definition
Nice job there is nothing like the sound of an old low ram engine when it idles
Ikke mange motorer som kan måle seg med en marna , må isåfall vere sabb
Where did you get the black waterhouse thing on the left side at 0:50? It isn’t the original i suppose.
Just an old gasoline hose I had laying around, works fine for hot water too
@@superiormusic No, i meant the whole silencer thing, hehe. Mine is almost rusted all the way through, so need a new one.
På tussøya?
runs nice
Excellent!
Just showed up in my recommended videos. I would love to have an old engine like that in a boat to cruise the rivers with.
Hi mate. This would be an excellent choice for that application. Nothing calms down the heartbeat like the sound of this at low RPM. Cheers
VERY nice!! Nice old tractor in the garage, by the way
fourforty RoadRunner Thank you, I'll make sure to relay your comment to my father. BTW, It's a Massey Fergusson 35, 1960-model.
6 hp. / 600 lbs. The way things should be.
Little need for extra ballast with this baby on board :) Thanks for watching. Someday I'll be posting a new video where I've installed the original carburettor on the engine.
They built them solid back then.
With proper care, it'll last several lifetimes :)
Hay
Looking great mate run nice
+Cornish Engines Thanks bud :)
👍👌👏
wow! I guess these old brutts acted as a keel ballast at the same time.

Flott klenodium :)
Alexander Kvale Mange takk. Jeg vurderer å male den opp igjen på en mer grundig måte en gang i fremtiden og sette tilbake den originale manifolden og forgasseren. Men nå for tiden er det andre prosjekter som tar opp tid.
swidish??....
lars gullqvist Nope, pure Norwegian :)
superiormusic ok Nice man i lov norweigan pepol. .. Norge rocks.... xb
Beautiful Engine
Nice...
@Reece Gilbert The carb is indeed way more modern than the rest of the engine. I have obtained a more suitable carb that is under maintenance.
Is it just me, but i see a modern carb. on that. what a cheater xD
Very nice, lovely oiler, running good.
i tried to count cycle; i obtain 200 rpm.
very nice restoration! check out my boat engine videos too!
Utrulig fint restaurert.Dette var tider der norge enda hadde industrie ;-)
They are indeed known for being reliable and solid machines that will last for generations :)
What a cutie that semi-diesel i wish i can have one. I am a fan of SABB G and 2G, own few of them.
I call it the "BB" Back Breaker xD
Ja bym na początek spróbował zmielony pieprz i odrobinę majeranku zmieszał z keczupem i musztardą a potem to wszystko wciepał do środka i zakręcił ;) Może coś lepiej ruszy ;)
To urządzenie potrzebuje ulepszeń :)
Najpierw trzeba zmielić troche pieprzu, potem dolać keczupu, potem zakręcic wielkim kołem a na końcu powinna wyskoczyć kanapka... coś tu nie działa :(
My favourite colour!
Gracias ;)
bonito motor, le queda bien el verde
Nice piece of engineering skill!
Indeed. I wish more boats sounded like this.
That is a very comforting sound!
I'm sure my technique could be improved, because these engines should be easier to start than what is evident in this video. Unfortunatly, this old work horse is again hospitalized because of faulty carborator and the paintjob giving way to the relentless raw climate of the Norwegian west coast where I live. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks :D
I must say I didn't realize that it was equipped with an impulse magneto (which also retards the timing for start). Nevertheless, one extra rotation before compression makes it quite a bit easier to start engines of this sort. It certainly helps old folk and people who lack arm strength. Clean air always helps, especially after a failed start attempt. Everyone has their own pet method, I suppose. Thanks for the video.
These engines are designed to just tick over the compression stroke in order to start. The ignition system is designed to make an impulse as the piston reaches TDC. This function is disengaged as the engine starts because of the centrifugal weights inside the magnet. Gaining speed on the flywheel in order to start is therefore obsolete. As far as I know cleansing the air inside the combustion chamber will in no way aid starting. Cheers anyway ;)
