Matt, I really appreciate the tips you put out. It's always the juice and it's free. I'm 81 and still love to go but can't get out like I used to. I use Horney Toads and Rabbits a lot and will soon have the Gambler nose cones. Thanks again for your bassin knowledge.
really cool nose cone weight tip. When i finally work in the toad, i will pick those up. I like the ability to cover water as you discussed. Great stuff Matt
Excellent content! Many thanks for taking the time to create and share your videos. I like to use a weighted hook with the Horny Toad. Even more casting distance and it works very well when you reel up to a piece of cover and then kill it. I get many strikes as the toad sinks. Toads are also good swimbait trailers to keep a heavier jig high in the water column. You have an outstanding, informative channel. I have been subscribed for a while now. Please keep up the good work.
And as always, more great info. Fishing is just one of MANY interests of mine. So I watch a lot of different informational videos. And since I watch so many I have to budget my time. Matt's videos are pretty much the only ones I watch. Thnx again Matt
I have a lot of fun fishing toads around flooded Buck Brush and willows. During may fly hatches on KY and Barkley Lake, it can really be a hot bite regardless of the weather
I just started making these on a marling baits epic mold (epic ribbit) and they are getting huge blow up. Its a fat frog/toad but 5/0 hook gets the job done. If you know anyone that makes baits ask them to make you some and give them a try. I used super soft plastic but they obviously got torn up after 2-3 hits. the next batch will be a harder plastic. Good luck. This is also a Pay Matt comment.
Im that guy thats making a mistake, I love throwing the hollow bellies and often overlook toads, thanks for sharing with me the importance of using these baits!
I love fishing toads in the summer! When my cousin started bass fishing, I set him up with a horny toad and instead of fishing it like me, steady retrieve on the surface, he started fishing it slow letting it fall in the pockets between the lily's.I had 4 fish and told him, you have to keep those legs kicking and buzz it along. I wanted him to catch a fish. Well not to long after my pep talk, he starts killing it in the holes and all the sudden he hooks a monster for Massachusetts anyway that weighed 6 9oz ! I shut up after that! Lol I also like the Stanley Ribbit, and Strike king Rage tail over the horny toad if there's more chop and wind, but the horny toad when it's calm. It's a little more subtile. Great content!
Check out the Halo fishing coneheads. It's pretty much an oversized bobber stop. Works like the hallow point but you don't have to bust up the front of the toad with the screw in.
Today I was fishing with a wacky worm in one of my usual ponds. I found out that any time I switch color / length / shape I get a couple of bites immediately, then things get slower, i change again and here we go a few more bites. Most of the people including you, suggest us to not change too often and get confident although I’m pretty positive that after 20 casts (or so) with the same worm they get bored / scared. It’s incredible, I wonder if it’s because it’s a very small pond…
Run toads as well the two types of frogs. Would have used a toad today but, five of my six lakes were closed to launching boats. The ramps were under water. We started rolling at 6:00am and finally found a lake and launched at 10:40am. A week of rain that ended on Thursday with 4" of rain on that day. What a bust! And now my shoulder needs ice ! Too bad I can't send some of it to Lake Mead.
You Toad um ! let's see if they use um. Gotta be one of the most fun bites and greatest plastic search baits on flats i Love um ........Great vid Matt sir
Hi Matt, I have a question about the toads as a buzzbait trailer. Do you mostly use the more streamlined toads as trailers, or are there times that you do use one of the floating toads as a trailer at times? Mark from Boston
I'm curious, you make all these tip videos and presentation videos. But what would you say are the main presentations or lures you use. Obviously the area your fishing, type of bass, confidence, ect play into that but i just wonder what you throw more than anything else. Mine are the chatterbait and Texas rigged senko/stick bait. My wife is the drop shot.
I just notice TW , Berkley came out with a 3.9 size solid rubber buzz toad , going to order through your channel got to get me some , been using the ribbit but I want one a lil bigger , never saw that cone before I’m getting them there too , cause the bead ribbit used to give did not help
A great top water bait is the Zman goat toadz. They actually float, so when you stop the retrieve the bait does not sink and you can retrieve them at a slower rate. Caught a lot of fish on them.
The regular Goat is good too. Also they have a popping frog with legs same floating deal and the hard leg frog. I found them a few months ago. Tough and works great in the pads.
Matt: Topwater toads and frogs are a great way to catch fish! Even a beginning angler can do it! Me: 😭 I just bought a new boat (no, I didn't get rid of the Bass Buggy. I will *never* get rid of the Bass Buggy!) and I'm taking it to a lake I have only fished twice before. I'm gonna force myself to throw nothing but topwater.
I’d love to buy a bass boat so I could set up a tent on it and camp out when my wife gets mad at me for spending so much money on a bass boat. 😉 Seriously, I hope you’re having a great time. 👍
Well if it means anything I uploaded my video on toad fishing on June 29th well before tactical bassin published their video. I can assure you i dont make videos based on what other people make. there are limited topics so it happens all the time when one video comes out before or after another content creators videos. I make daily videos and timing can be a bummer sometimes. if i had known tactical bassins video came out before mine i would have pushed mine back. Probably not the best idea to follow the powerhouse in the fishing world if your trying to get views. Sometimes its good to know the facts before commenting.
There's flaws and upsides to everything. For instance, hollow body frogs can have rattle put in easily....and the can pound the mats. In the open, no need for a frog unless you don't know how to fish. On the thick stuff, this Toad is not the only solution. Experience is individualized. Was watching a violinist called out a fake. She said she's spent tons of money and sweated to horn her skills. That's why she called him out. I feel like her. I mean I can see why you would throw a frog, but I cannot see it thrown in the open or thrown with double hooks. JS.

@@MattStefanFishing Will do! Thanks again.
That Berkley toad is my favorite buzzbait trailer
I use that green color you have and the white leopard frog
its a good one!
Have used the Stanley toad for years, good one
its a good one

Thanks. I hope to catch one on it one of these days.
Good luck!
I finally got double hooks for the Stanley Ribit and they work great.
yes they do!

thanks for watching!
Great tips on toad fishing, I didn’t really know when to use them over a frog!
Glad I could help!
Good stuff as always Matt! I have been using the Zoom and Strike King toads, I will check out the other ones you mentioned 🎣
go for it!

toads can be great underwater
I love throwing my Toad’s. I’ve got some nice fish on them.
Same here!
Been waiting on this 1 . Thanks for the tips. Gttn the screw lock
awesome!
Love the toads, the zoom toad is a tough bait.
it works great!
Nice video with excellent information……. Thank you Matt!!! 👍🎣
thanks!
Toads are great fun. For a bit more noise check out the Rage line of toads.
i will

This comment was meant to be on a different video, sorry guys 😔
@@lucapelati If color preference changes that quickly, it could apply to all types of lures. Good to know. Thanks.
i suggest changing often if your casting the same water over and over. the fish 100% get accustomed to a bait quickly

We’ll take some of that water in the central Sierras. At the lake near me, it’s a half mile hike from the bottom of my favorite ramp to the water.
thats a bunch of rain!

And I had such high expectations for this year. Snow up to the first part of May and rain into July.
I caught some large mouth bass on a fluke today it was awesome!!
Sounds great!
You Toad um ! let's see if they use um. Gotta be one of the most fun bites and greatest plastic search baits on flats i Love um ........Great vid Matt sir
You got that right!
Hey Matt, are you using a different hook than the screw in swimbait hook when you use the plastic nosecone? Thanks.
Show us the rigging with the hollow point
yes the nosecone is meant for using with an ewg hook. i should have been more clear
Great Video Matt !! Thanks so much !!!
Glad you liked it!
Hey Matt 👋 can you do a video on wake baits ?
will do!
Thank you
I've been playing around with the Yum toads.
havent used them much...my dad loves them!

i dont have one bait i fall back on. ide say i have about 10 primary confidence baits
Had to go there!
haha

Great video but a little confusing. How do you put hook & the plastic nose cone together? Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
you just thread the bait on the hook further
Great information 👍
Glad it was helpful!
How can you have a screw lock hook screwed into the nose of your toad and then screw in a Hollow point into the nose?
Wondering the same thing.
Yes me to. Pleese show for us Mr. Mat. Ok by.
i should have been more clear the nosecone replaces the need for a screwlock and allows yu to use an EWG giving the hook full gap room
Was that a 7/0 size? That's massive lol
Is that the size to run?
no i believe it was the 5/0 off the top of my head
How do you use that screw in bullet on the nose when you are using a screw in hook?
You can’t
Pleese show for us how to put it the nos cone and hook . Thamk you Mr.mat. Ok by.
will do
Is that a 4/0 or a 5/0 fusion hook for the top toad?
5/0
When I use the Fusion hooks with the spring a lot of time my Horny Toad turns up side down on the retrieve
Any way to prevent this??
hmmm i havent had that issue
Everytime I fish a horny toad , I can never get it to run right side up. I runs upside down. Any body have any suggestions?
hmmm not off the top of my head
I picked up a scum frog little big foot. It’s like a horny toad and hollow belly frog made a baby
i like the scum frogs!

Also the bubble trail is killer.
I usually dig in the mark down bins but even at about $1 a piece these things work and last.
they are good baits!
Let's Go!
love'em!

lots of bass get caught in open water on frogs...just saying
