You introduced me to amazing music amazing films. I miss you so much. It took me hours to find this song but it was on the tip of my tongue and the whole time I thought of you.
Many years ago this was my favorite song from AILD. And I used to be able to play 90% of this song except parts of the guitar solo, I would play it hundreds of time in my room while messing with my amp settings to get different sounds and distortions and I loved it. It is a very intense and challenging song (at least for me it was), but lots of fun to play!
This is my comfort riff lol one of the first things I tried to learn on guitar, after way more basic stuff. Took months, was so proud. This song is such a legend now.
Welcome back as I lay dying!!!! My neck and ears aren't ready! I can't wait to be trapped in your legendary music again. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. Sorry metalcore music. .your gods have just returned!

Roberto Bratti Yeah, that doesn't change the fact that the guy tried to hire someone to kill his wife. Talent shouldn't give you a free pass on being a psycho.
somanytakennames the fact is we dont know shit about Megan. Maybe she wanted to take his kids and money away? Desparate people tend to do desparate things.. I am not ofc saying it was okay, just I dont have the whole picture of things so I cant judge.
Guys this is Christian, can you not tell? "We have followed what we wanted to hear"? Totally humanity. All we do is want to hear stuff only we want to hear and never let God's Word into us and influence us. I'm sorry if I'm preaching, but it's just what I believe. May metal never die.
There is a sort of duality with all their lyrics, and it's kind of genius. But I think that Lambesis was progressively becoming less of a christian and more of an atheist very early in As I Lay Dying's history, and it really shows in their lyrics. Even by this album, I think he had totally let go of christianity and embraced atheism."For what use is there in praying, If you will only hear what you want to hear?". It's even more apparent if you look at the bands that they toured with; Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth, Opeth, Slayer. Christian bands usually stick together and stay away from bands like the ones I mentioned. It's worth mentioning that Lambesis was the main lyricist in the band, and so the other guys may have maintained their faith where as Tim completely let it go. Being an atheist myself, I went through the entire roster of christian metal when I was young; culminated by attending cornerstone in '06, and I still enjoy some of the not so preachy christian bands today. I've experienced their shows on both sides of the spectrum; early in their career with christian bands like Haste the Day, August Burns Red and Demon Hunter, and later with the death metal bands like Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth and Opeth. I do believe I can be objective in the argument and I have watched As I Lay Dying from the very beginning of their career, and I have always felt they didn't belong in the genre of christian metal.
Garrett Thomas BTW "We have followed what we wanted to hear" is a diss to Christianity, not the opposite. That's why religion is popular. Because people want to hear it, and even though it's false, people will follow it just because it sounds nice.
Wow, can't believe that I said that so long ago. I apologize for being so ignorant. I should have looked online for the lyrics and done my research before making this comment. For the longest time I thought it was Christian due to the fact that my brother showed it to me when he was going through his Christian metal phase, and I thought that that was what it was. I know that is no excuse, but I just want to say I'm sorry. And if there is a small chance that the band is reading this, I would also like to apologize for twisting your song's message to fit my own personal agenda. It was wrong and there is no excuse for it.
