    For transparency, the Almond Cow itself costs $195. Then there’s a Almond Cow, jug, and brush bundle that’s $217. Then a bundle that comes with all that plus a bag of each of their nut options for $288. If you buy just the Almond Cow for $195, the bags they sell of nuts are around $20 each, but obviously you don’t have to source your nuts etc from them.
    Edit* While a bit expensive, the Almond Cow will pay for itself in about a year or less of not buying Almond/soy/coconut milks at the store, depending on what brand you use. For example, if you pay $3.49, it’ll pay for itself in about 55 weeks (if you’re buying one bottle of it a week). But the impact on the environment definitely adds worth to it. Unfortunately not everyone is able to pay $195 outright though. But if you are..it’s worth it.

    gonna be honest, my favorite bacon is the spicy bacon I get every now and then from the grocery store. Not often, but it gives a very nice different taste than your traditional smoked bacon. Of course, that's a meat product and I always look for non-meat options. I'm not vegan by any means, but always looking to add veggie substitutes whenever I can.
    I remember very vividly my aunt had a foreign family from India living in their downstairs apartment. The Indian mother came over to help take care of their newborn, and made us all vegetarian/vegan Indian food. As someone who isn't initially a veggie lover, it really opened my eyes at what good non-meat dishes can taste like, even if I have them as sides.

    when i made this for the first time this past weekend, i found it much easier to pre-soak WHOLE rice paper sheets under water to start them softening, before dunking the whole sheet in marinade (actually, i put it on my baking rack and painted the marinade on with a pastry brush). then, AFTER assembling and baking it the full large sheets, i cut them into strips when they had cooled. so much easier and less fiddly than messing with individual strips. i personally love his extra spicy marinade, but that's just me. oh, and i also baked them longer than the recipe states, because i like them crispy. the rice paper innovation is pretty great!

    • @Radjehuty
      @Radjehuty 2 роки тому +1

      I was just thinking the same thing when watching this process. Why cut the strips individually when you can just cook it as one huge "sandwich" and use a pizza cutter after it's done cooking? You don't have to look for direct substitutes. If you want flavored oils, Asian cuisine has lots of it. Onion oil, garlic oil, etc, and it's one step to make. Also, if you know some Asian grocery store, there's a chance they sell pork flavored stuff, and the better ones are really convincing.

    My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe! We liked it more than just plain rice paper bacon and the process went quickly and easily for us. Although, I may tweak the marinade a bit.
    Notes:
    - reduced the sriracha to half and cayenne to maybe a 1/4 tsp
    - made the full recipe, using only 3 oz of tofu, as the recipe states (I got 8 finished slices with leftover marinade)
    - added tiny tofu crumbles across the whole rice paper slice (not bothering to center it), topped with another slice, pressed firmly all over, and baked on a cooling rack placed over a sheet pan
    - baked for about 20 minutes without flipping, and then went ahead and flipped them, pressing them once again, and baking for an additional 5 mins or so. They did crisp up even more as they cooled outside the oven.
