I just lost my Brother yesterday to severe alcoholism we were Huge Lizzy fans long before they became popular, we saw Lizzy in Buffalo 81 I think "Chinatown" tour, Phil was looking rough and playing rough not many in the club, he played this song with a smirk on his face and I said to my brother man I wish he would give it up, today I'm wishing my brother had given it up also, still a great song with a message that rings true to many. My Brother had the Black Rose tattooed on his arm since the album came out ..may they both RIP
Poignant...Just going back memory lane today digging up his music...this one stands out today ... at 0:40 he jokes about the things that sadly eventually took him down ... such a talented guy . May he and your brother rest in peace
Once you had seen this band , you were hooked Lynott had such an aura, a wizard casting his spell over an audience that he would have in the palm of his hand.. A legend a king of rock n roll a lost soul nos at peace Rip Philip Lynott Thanks for the memories
A eulogy of a man, to his mam ,wife and kids, who has realised he is loosening the battle, now his demons are winning.😪 If he was living now Thin lizzy would be bigger than the stones.
This is my "supergroup" of amazing rockers we have sadly lost. Phil lynott, cozy powell on drums and guitar duo of Steve Clark and Randy Rhoads. They would kick so much ass!! RIP all.
I saw this tour at the Warehouse in New Orleans and it's exactly the same set list and performance! You can't go by the audio sound of this DVD as it is not good mix and Snowy's guitar is not mixed well and goes in and out but the is a good concert of Thin Lizzy from 80's but I prefer if you can still find it the Renegade tour which I have bootleg DVD sounds excellent!
This is insane... Such personal text... And such great performance.. Phil always got that smile om his face, even when he was as deep down you can´t imagine..always a smile.. He delivered the goods till the day he died.. Drugs, alcohol.. whatever.... he never stoped loving his mission.. That is a true Rock Star. R.I.P
Well said my friend , you can also hear he is begging to get rid of that stuff . Sadly enough , he couldnt get enough . Pardon my bad english Please . Greetings from belgium
At one critical moment, Thin Lizzy were the biggest, baddest, ballsiest band on the planet....Zeppelin were fading into significance as Phil rode the wave with the hottest gig in town..anywhere in the world...Mercy+
Such a cry for help, in a time when everyone knew he had a drug addiction & was getting worse & also an innocent time as well. As he sang “onto the heavy stuff” people might’ve interpreted that as onto more whiskeys than pints. But we know now it was moving onto heroin & “I’m young & growing old” yeh he was a young man & was getting older but he possibly means the drugs were ageing him more. It’s so unfortunate that he didn’t help himself. So many talent was lost during this era of music world would be different if they still lived on
What are you talking about you fool. Phil lynott never wrote this song for a cry of help. It’s a fact of life written in the third person. You kids on UA-cam are brainless trolls trying to poison a legends legacy that we grew up with when Rock n roll was not analysed by a nobody on the interne p.s. the noobs that like your pointless comments also are sheep that were never there and a part of a great scene that’s now sadly gone.
How am I being a troll? I’m far from one. How long where you scrolling to find this comment. I grew up with rock & roll as well. Philo is a legend & will always be a legend if it weren’t for him & Thin Lizzy we would of had slash or guns n roses or Metallica his legacy fuel many musicians. Without him or Thin Lizzy the world would be a different place musically.
Best wishes and hope you do give it up mate cause I know exactly what you are going through,iv been fighting with heroin since the 1990s and trust me I know how hard it is all I can say is keep on fighting and don't ever give up as it will come right for you 💯🙏🇮🇪☘️
They were evolving into a great havy metal band with John Sykes when drugs put an end to it all....Opium Trail another great song saying the same thing...they could have even bigger...tragic
Gary's hands are lightning! Anyone else seen the version of Emerald on One Night In Dublin w/Robbo? WTF? 1st thing I noticed was Moores hands just flying...lol
Don’t know what it is about Snowy White. Any time I listen to him live either with PF (during the Animals tour), TL or RW, he just seems out of tune. This band was a true guitar army when it was Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham trading leads.
Yeah…I so wish he did give it all up. But he gave out so much of his soul to the world, and thank God he did. So much more than almost all of us. He wasn’t perfect and it’s so sad he didn’t last longer…but in the end (funny he just sang that line as I was writing this) he made and shared so much beauty.
Sat and cried the whole way through this. What a sadness. This song breaks the heart of any and everyone. Not just for Phil… I’m crying for every mom, dad, family member, or friend who’ve felt the ‘living’ loss of someone they love. Those who - even now are experiencing the torture Phil is singing about, the enslavement by drugs and alcohol. It’s so hard to overcome. My heart wishes you some kind of comfort, Peace.
Loved this gorgeous front Man and bass player ... Stay in my Heart forever Phil lynott you were so underrated and a genius in your job . Listened to you when i was 16 but still today at 52 . Hope your soul found peace wherever you are i Hope you rock with my brother Phil who should have joined you on march 17,2018. Rip both if you .coco.💔💔💔💔
had the good fortune to see LIzzy play live four times as a youth. Seen a million bands since then. never saw a better front man than Phil. Great band. RIP
Such a strong cry for help. The words in this song say all about how his life had spiralled out of control. Simply the greatest front man with the greatest band of that time. Loved them then love them now. Rip Phil.😥
Thin Lizzy is more relevant today than at any point - Phil Lynott wrote about drug/alcohol abuse from his own experience just as Freddie Mercury wrote about being gay from his. I love the personal plea and call out at a time when no-one was there to help. It's 2019, Phil - we still have a problem. As an artist, you did all you could to avoid it.
I’m sorry to hear about your brother. Alcoholism is a terrible disease. Phil was singing about what he knew. I hope your brother is at peace now.
Sorry for your loss.
It’s not relevant, drugs , alcohol, sex. What do you give up. Life? Trolling UA-cam for sympathy. Listen to the music for fucks sake. Get a grip
Sorry to hear. Cherish all the good times you had together.
Poignant...Just going back memory lane today digging up his music...this one stands out today ... at 0:40 he jokes about the things that sadly eventually took him down ... such a talented guy . May he and your brother rest in peace
Such a wonderful song, yet so sad. Poor Phil, his own worst enemy, yet a wonderful gift to all of us.
Scott Gorham may be the most underrated rock guitarist of all time
💯
hard to pick 4 me scott Gorham whitey snow or gary moore all fabulous and underrated in own right add phil it's lighting in bottle
One of the all time best bands, hands down.
The greatest classic rock band there ever was. America never got to experience it
I did. Thanks to my Canadian friend
Once you had seen this band , you were hooked

Such a fabulous autobiographic song... RIP Phil, you're one of the GOAT!
OMG, even with all that addictions and stuff, such a genious and beautiful human being!
Best frontman, vocalist. Underrated. RIP Phil.
This is my "supergroup" of amazing rockers we have sadly lost. Phil lynott, cozy powell on drums and guitar duo of Steve Clark and Randy Rhoads. They would kick so much ass!! RIP all.
Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy rule forever and ever! ✌️❤️🎸

How very sad brilliant lyrics
Prophetic!
I'm listening to this song struggling to keep myself from taking another shot. I wanna give it up too.
Philo = Irish Rock God forever, RIP...

Great words you wrote here, Phil was a legend of a man that'll live on forever!!!
Well said my friend , you can also hear he is begging to get rid of that stuff . Sadly enough , he couldnt get enough . Pardon my bad english Please . Greetings from belgium
He had talk about alcoholic toothpaste, that was legendary.
Damn good song! Chords and solo and Phil just kicking it!
One of those concerts I never got to see... I lost out.
At one critical moment, Thin Lizzy were the biggest, baddest, ballsiest band on the planet....Zeppelin were fading into significance as Phil rode the wave with the hottest gig in town..anywhere in the world...Mercy+

This is immediately a catchy track. As always, Jon delivers music that is so classic but still new. Cheers Jon!!

Tremenda canción de thin Liz,y
Requiescat in pace, Philomena and her beloved son.
LIZZY FOREVER!
Unfortunately Philo didn't give it up, and messing with the heavy stuff cost him his life...
Rest in Pease to a legend
He did give it up... The damage was already done.. sad
Still listening tho! when my time comes no one will watch videos of me!!
Great Video :) !
He was pretty coherent for being in his condition. Sad though. What a great talent.
Snowy on fire here.
A great talent who died to soon!!
The worst thing Thin Lizzy ever did, was heroin. Phil was an absolute genius and left us far too soon. 💜🤘
SNOWY WHITE !!!!!!!!!
Too true brother
How much I need to give up that stuff
Best wishes and hope you do give it up mate cause I know exactly what you are going through,iv been fighting with heroin since the 1990s and trust me I know how hard it is all I can say is keep on fighting and don't ever give up as it will come right for you 💯🙏🇮🇪☘️

They were evolving into a great havy metal band with John Sykes when drugs put an end to it all....Opium Trail another great song saying the same thing...they could have even bigger...tragic
Better to live those years than be 96 selling apples. Although I like apples.
How dy'a like them apples?
I wish Philo was still alive
🙏🎸🔈🙏🎸🔉🙏🎸🔊
❤️❤️❤️
Does anyone Know what kind of bass Phil Lynott is playing in video?
looks like a Ibanez. would like to know the model number.
It looks like a Roadstar but doesn't sound like one, it might be modified or he's using a really good amp.
A red one.
I think he used a Phaser effects pedal with it too..
Junk dont get you far 🍀🍀
Awesome song
very very sorry to lose ur brother
The alcoholic toothpaste was not good for you Philip.
🤟🏻
I bet nobody else here is an addict
Anyone know what year this is and where??
Germany 1981 Rockpalast Lorelei
Eleven people had give up
I wish there was a good video with Gary instead of snowy. It just isn't the same.
It would have been great. Snowy White is no slouch either very underrated player.
SNOWY rules!
Yep. Gary's closing solo to this song is one of his best. This guy here just couldn't match the intensity at all.
Snowy is a great guitarist
Gary's hands are lightning! Anyone else seen the version of Emerald on One Night In Dublin w/Robbo? WTF? 1st thing I noticed was Moores hands just flying...lol

Sorry but those keyboards sound pants.
P
Give smack a chance
Damn , I wish I was there

its hard to watch this without tearing up, you could see its a desperate cry for help
Every time for me
Every single one
No joke man...that's exactly what it is

Phil was 3 sheets in the wind during this performance!

Amen. ❤️🙏
This song is more than the damn solo. It is about his life! The best confession song EVER! try to unseat it.
steven it can't be unseated
damn true
There's a number of cries for help throughout Phil's career,
it's tragic that they weren't really noticed at the time.
@@abegarfield3754 I think there were but quitting is up to addict himself.
Raw, it's like an open letter to his beloved Mom, Philomena..pure honesty .😥

My words and age.
Hello Corrine you there x
One of the best live performances caught on screen & one of the best songs ever about addiction.
Seen them live. Brilliant
@@dodgem6521 Looking forward to this new doc, which is supposed to drop pretty soon: lovin.ie/entertainment/music/phil-lynott-documentary-cinemas

Sad song as it was Phil's downfall pity what a sad loss.
