The "stolen ML55" and the "V12 for 4500 USD" videos is what got me into your channel. Can't believe it's been that long. Here's to many, many more years with a lot of Hoopties!
@@MrMaxyield honestly the repairs on it are going to be mostly cosmetic, the car mechanically is fine except for the power steering, tie rods, diff mounts, and some small leaks (oil cooler leaks are incredibly common on these cars anyways so that's expected) so given the popularity and fame of this car, it's a worthwhile investment in my eyes
@@juki6377 Honestly I think Hoovie loves the ML55 too much to get rid of it. Even if he doesn't make too many more videos on it, he will probably still keep it as his workhorse vehicle like with his Chevy conversion van.
I can't really believe how much this channel has changed since that video. The ml55 stolen and 911 v8 swap are where I started watching, pretty insane when you see some of the cars hoovie owns now
Tyler, the reason for the holes drilled in the body may have been for bullet hits. When I used to work on movies and TV we would drill holes, place squibs and bondo over the holes so that they would look like bullet hits when the squibs would go off. If it was a production vehicle it's likely that they body work was supposed to look fine on camera from a distance, which would explain the shoddy paint. Cool history of it.
You both have been introduced to what us folks down south call "mud daubers", they are a type of wasp that catch and sting spiders to paralyze them, and then put them into long tubes made of mud, where they lay eggs, they install these mud tubes under vehicles, decks, basically anywhere they can get to that seems like a safe spot. If they're fresh and you crack one open, you might find live spiders that have been sealed in and have become un-paralyzed. Great fun.
They're also the most chill of wasps. I was putting on my "home driving" boots at work one day and felt a pinch on my palm. Lo and behold, a dauber was politely letting me know that she was already there and didn't appreciate my hand in that location.
Very familiar with mud daubers as I grew up in mid Missouri, but I didn't know they sealed spiders in their tubes. That's twice the reason not to like them!!!
The W163s are absolute tanks! I bought an 02 ML55 earlier this year in decent shape for $500 and after a few hundred bucks its been my work vehicle all year. 363k og miles and still going strong!
I used to live outside Boston and every time I'd see one of these they were all clapped out... Usually had some ugly aftermarket wheels on them, and the body always looked like it was in a demolition derby. They had a hard life, but they're great cars. I got to drive a non AMG version and it felt like a tank, very smooth and SOLID.
A blast from the past, hard to believe I have been watching fo that long, Hoovie has just gone from strength to strength. I remember thinking he's just a guy doing what I'd love to do but he has the guts to just get out there and do it. Thanks Tyler fo all the entertainment!
It’s had a hard life, but the cool factor is way up there, and oh, the stories it could tell… so yeah, it will be nice to see it brought back to good health and enjoyed for what it is, a seasoned AMG with character. Love the vids!
So nice to see this back! This was the car/story that first got me into Hoovies Garage! Can you please restore this car, such an important Hoovies car and it deserves some love.

Love your videos! Bought my 2003 ML55 AMG in 2017 for $3500 with a 'transmission leak' ; replacing the seal of the electrical connector to the transmission took care of the leak. Also replaced the engine mounts, tires and headlights. It's a fun car to drive in winter... in summer I enjoy my 2004 S600 AMG
I still remember this story. Amazing how time flies and that it is five years in the past now. I follow your channel since you bought that NSX. Unbeliviable that it is almost six years back from now. Keep it up Hoovie!

Probably 5 years in now with Hoovie and 6 with Father Douglas? Damn.
Hey Hoovie, I am glad you got the car back from when it was stolen. Also you kept mentioning CSI New Orleans and it was actually NCIS New Orleans. I enjoy your videos, keep it up.
The stolen Mercedes was literally the first video I ever seen from hoovie. And it was around 2 weeks after it aired because I didn't want to watch cuz I thought the channel would be stupid but UA-cam kept suggesting it and I guess they eventually got me. Pretty sure I've been subscribed ever since!
I'm about 30 minutes in the video. If somebody hasn't already mentioned this wizard might already know this but try flushing and replacing the power steering fluid. I had a similar issue with a 2009 Caravan and it would go away after a few minutes and the vehicle warming up at first it was like you had no power steering at all and then after it warm up it would go away. I ended up having a line break which caused it to dump all its fluid and after I replace the line and new fluid the problem immediately went away so it might be a problem with the fluid
laughed at the dirt (mud) dauber falling on the wizards head. A staple of the south. Leave something around for a few mins and these wasps take up residency
That was your highest grossing vehicle once upon a time, with the attention it got from being stolen, fix 'er up, do the rear main seal, bring it back to glory.
I also found your channel thanks to the videos about this car. I'm not sure what made me subscribe, but I'd guess it was your attitude in the recovery video. It just seemed pleasant, despite the bad situation you found yourself in. It's crazy to see how much your fleet evolved!

this was a good honest throw back and its good to see the car get saved, hopfully he does the cosmetics also. I like seeing the paint work.
Gotta see Leonard at the Wichita Pay n Spray
I'm about 30 minutes in the video. If somebody hasn't already mentioned this wizard might already know this but try flushing and replacing the power steering fluid. I had a similar issue with a 2009 Caravan and it would go away after a few minutes and the vehicle warming up at first it was like you had no power steering at all and then after it warm up it would go away. I ended up having a line break which caused it to dump all its fluid and after I replace the line and new fluid the problem immediately went away so it might be a problem with the fluid
My favorite hooptie fleet vehicle of all times. Extremely happy to see it come back.
The OG video was the 1st video I ever watched on this channel.
I'm glad I stuck around, Tyler.
The original "My ML55 AMG was stolen" video was my first experience with Hoovie's Garage. Been watching ever since.
I remember when this happened.... man I've been watching your channel for a long time.
The stolen mercedes video was the first video of yours I ever watched Hoovie, it got me hooked! This is truly a blast from the past!
The recoverie of the car was the first video I watched on this channel. Loved it...
laughed at the dirt (mud) dauber falling on the wizards head.

16:30 yes, that dirt dobber nest is typical Louisiana. As a native, its so funny to see y’all’s reaction to it.
