Hey, lovely howthis one turned out, did y know that blokking acrylic yarn is quick and easy, just position your peace on a flat surface, with this one it but difficult, but hold your blowdryer just above one spot of a couple of inches en pres and turn on your crocheted peace and flattend it like this with your hand, just let it cool down and take the next peace, and so on, really easy, i am Dutch so its a bit difficult to write the proper way, sorry for that.
I think this could be blocked ironing it in a very low heat, you can also use a cloth on top to make sure is not too hot. Since its acrilic its quite easy
I'm 66 years old and learned to knit and crochet as a child. Until this year, the only "blocking materials" I've ever used were my ironing board, iron, straight pins, a flower sack kitchen towel and a spray bottle. After a 10 year hiatus from doing any knitting or crocheting, I was stunned to see all the shiny gadgets and tools being marketed as "must haves." Almost done with this pattern in a fingering weight angora acrylic blend -- I absolutely love it but then I'm a sucker for vintage patterns and fine crochet. Great channel!!
Ah nice! I found my great grannies and grannies lace making equipment and have been working up to use her 100 thread ..I'm using some 20 now and 10 ..100 is very fine but smoother than actual sewing thread it's amazing. I just pin to my bed!
I always blocked on my bed as well. I just put a pile of old towels in the bed. My grandmother taught me to wash the work by hand in the sink or tub, very gently agitating, then roll it in layers of toweling, then spread it out and block it on the bed. It takes a while to dry, and I recommend checking on it periodically to make sure it's not curling. Weights made of towels will keep the edges flat. No need to buy gadgets, imo. My grandma always called crochet the poor man's knitting. Our ancestors were very frugal, we should practice their example. 😊
The drape of Premier Bamboo Fair is so amazing with this cape!!! Truly-it’s a #3 also, 273 yards/100 grams/3.5 oz. TRULY TRULY TRULY MUST DO using this yarn-it’s amazingly beautiful.
Lovely! I can make/use this as a beautiful “bed jacket”! I’m so happy to have found you and after begging you to tell ‘your story’ I like your channel even more. Thank you so much! Xxoo
This is so beautiful! I made a 1950-something pineapple doily where the outer pineapples were finished individually, and I've seen a few others that do the same, so I think that may have been a common way of making pineapple items in the 50s? 🤷🏻♀️ It was a little tedious, but the finished look made it all worth it. For blocking, in general, an old yoga mat and some cardboard makes a plenty sufficient blocking board, especially for something that's long, like this capelet. And any sewing pins will work, they don't have to be T pins, they just have to hold. When blocking acrylic, if you pin it out, then steam it with an iron by holding the iron above the yarn and pressing the steam button - DO NOT iron on the acrylic yarn (or a garment steamer if you have one) it is better than wet blocking. It also happens to be much faster, as well, since you don't have to wait a couple days for everything to dry.
My goodness girl…..vintage crochet diva! I love the way you are teaching I totally suck at reading patterns…seeing what you are doing helps me a lot. Hope and your family are doing well. BTW I think I saw a furbaby
I made 3 - the 1st was in cotton it was beautiful the pattern was so clear. the next 2-- I made in wool, it was not as pretty, the pattern didn't show up as well. This pattern is quick and easy. Yes its the pineapple stitch as the cotton one shows it very well.
yes definitely the cutest project I have seen you do so far! LOVE IT!!! ( I cannot crochet having been a knitter for 50 years but really if I was going to be able to learn to, it would only be because you are an amazing motivator, teacher and videographer! I am sure there's viewers who are seasoned crocheters who are loving this just as much as I am! Can't wait to see it finished!!!
So good to see you again. Sorry for all the struggles. Praying for you all. And congratulations on the new house and new pregnancy. Take your time and be gentle with yourself. 💐
@Pammy YOLO A Bridal Cape....that is marvelous! I really can't think of a better gift. I do hope it turns out as beautiful as this one. Good luck, and thank you for the inspiration!
I definitey have tp make this because one big reason.....This pattern came out the year I was born! On top of that it is very beautiful. I can imagine a beautiful 1950's cocktail dress that it is worn with. But it would make a wonderful bedjacket for when it gets a little chill in rhe room.
Do you know if I could do it in a bigger scale with larger yarn and needles. I have this lovely yarn I only have 3 balls of its a shiny ombre brown red ..so nice but I haven't done anything with it so far. I do have tiny crotchet yarn but it's like not very pleasant for against skin.
Hellooo, If you want to block it? You can take carboard and a beach towel to make a blocking board. Take large black paperclips to hold your towel to the cardboard, then just lay your garment out and pin 😉👍. (Yes, you can block Acrylic..) I think this Cape is so pretty, thank you Corinna for all your time in this project.❣
Hi Carinna from the Uk Thank goodness for your channel, I love watching all your videos,The mistaries, and the projects.you're always funny and cheerful.I love your tutorials.I just love everything. @justvintagecrochet thank you so much Corrina ☺️ I watched your mistary pattern last night. It's so beautiful, I think I will try and make a few to hang around the Christmas tree 🎄. Wishing you all the best, see you on vintage and " it's not knitting. I have come across this channel, but didn't look into it. Shame, now I know what I've been missing. I am your regular viewer. Thanks again Corinna. :-)
I’m used to crocheting w/heavier yarns and a bigger hook size so this will be a challenge. I’m sad because our nanny used to crochet doilies and fine, fingerling weight items. How I wish I would have asked her to teach me! She was so wonderful I know she would have but I was too busy being a Tom boy. Oh- 4.5 hook I use those and 3 weight yarn as well. Getting used to the smaller hook will be my challenge but I’ve been wanting to try. At 64- let’s teach this old dog a new trick! 😉
So happy I've "discovered " your channel as I just love everything vintage/antique!! Definitely going to use your patterns, thank you for sharing crochet-history!! Love from South Africa 🇿🇦
BRAVO! Nutella is totally adorable❤ Vintage/antique crochet is my jam. Through most of 1800s, plain crochet = sc in back loop, double crochet = sc through both loops. The use of double crochet being a method v a stitch is very confusing & can result in vastly different end piece. Victorian patterns rarely follow using the hook/yarn size rules of today. Skinny yarn BIG hook Love watching you. Thank you for keeping needlearts alive❤❤
Loved this one! I probably won't make it but I watched every minute of you making it because it's beautiful and you did an amazing job with it! Thanks for making these vintage beauties for us!❤️🧶
I never blocked years ago but I started knitting and learned that blocking makes a huge difference in both crochet and knitting. Please give it a try you will never not block again
You don't need fancy blocking stuff. I use a large piece of cardboard, like from a washer box, and straight pins. I cover the cardboard with a couple of sheets of plastic wrap large enough to accommodate the item being blocked. I do put a little starch in the soaking water. It does help repel dirt and dust so that your item doesn't need to be washed every time its used. Especially good for doilies. To remove dust I place the items in the dryer with a damp washcloth. Works great for draperies as well.
I love how you show pattern instructions and then perform the stitch. I have a hard time transcribing the pattern into production. It really takes more than knowing what the abbreviations mean.
I have never found a pineapple pattern that I didn't love. I love this one also and yes i found out early about having to start and finish each pineapple separately but always worth it. This is on my summer list to do as soon as I finish my current afghan. Thanks for all these vintage tutorials.
This is SOOOOOO pretty!!! Love, love, love pineapples! I've asked my baby sister if she would like one, but elbow or wrist length. Waiting for her answer! Thank you so much for showing us how to make this beauty. If i do make it, I'll spend the $1.99 & buy the pattern from your etsy store! And i'd use DK weight yarn. I've blocked my shawls on my bed! I just shape & pin them, then spray with water & let them dry. You have me intrigued with your next itsnotknit turorial! ❤
Ohh, I never thought to do that on the bed!! thanks for that tip! I think you're gonna love what I have for the other channel, I saw something made on Pinterest , but it was made with canvas or burlap that was starched and painted I just knew I could make it with crochet so I started brainstorming I will have that video out in probably about 10 days as I have to wait for more thread to come int he mail :)
@@justvintagecrochet How cool that I was able to give you a useful tip! This old dog has learned lots of good tips from you! Since I can no longer get down on my knees, my only option for blocking was my bed! Can be a problem if the piece doesn't dry by the end of the day! What a tease! You're gonna make us wait 10 whole days for your new creation!!?!? The thought processes behind creating and perfecting a pattern amaze me! So I guess I'll wait! 😭
I love it too. I agree it doesn't need blocking. I think I like the one pointed pineapple in front. I can't wait to see your project on the other channel. 😊
Just saved video to my crochet play list. This is definitely a must try and might have worked its way to the top of my to do list. Thank you for your videos. I have some health issues and when I can't I love watching others crochet. So glad I stumbled upon this channel.
I learned to crochet during the '60's. This pattern is one year younger than me. I remember doing the pineapple pattern. I used cotton as doilies were the "crochet hot item". Crochet garment patterns were very rare. Ive been learning knitting on YT the last 2 years. Looking for a shoulder cowl for my spaghetti strap summer dresses. Might have to do this vintage pattern by a vintage person. 😊 Thanks for sharing. Great AV. This is a keeper
I instantly fell in love with this and had pulled out some yarn and was stitching away before I was even a quarter of the way through the video lol. It is coming along beautifully! Your videos are well done and easy to follow. Thank you for introducing me to the wonders of vintage crochet!
Really llove this as a bed jacket. I ekill make it fot a new member of the family(through marriage) as a welcome to the family gift. Thanks for the how-to lesson. Wonderful videos!
This has been super helpful. I am just winging it to make myself a bed coat using up scrap yarn and decided that this pattern would be great for my sleeves. Once I am done with my sleeves I want to go ahead and come back to do the whole pattern. 😊
I hope you are lucky to sell these lovely items. If you’re the lady that made the beautiful dress with pink ribbons, fantastic job. I knit but not crochet. Now, old mean arthritis is in my fingers so not doing so much anymore.
I have an old steel hook, brand name Boyle on it. I think I got it from my grandmothers things when she passed. I’ve been using it since early 1990’s. It’s marked 15 cents.
Finally, i finished watching. Lol. Been working on my crochet plant. I do like the last suggestion of making the point better. It is super cute❣ i must consider downsizing this ond as well. 🤔🥰
I have blocking items so I may , I have also done that pattern, however I have moved ,thus thanks I have enjoyed your ever ya call follow . I am checking my moved stash planin' to ,do one with another pineapple within. For drape. Bye.
Hi crocheting girl! I absolutely love your channel and crocheting along with you. I do have a request! A wedding veil, if possible. I'm sure that you will come out with something spectacular! Love from Portugal
Hi there- so I’ve been working on another project using a heavier yarn. However- it is HOT here in The San Joaquin Valley Ca. So. Here I am. I’m going to give this a go. I’ve never used this small yarn/hook but I received some bamboo thread/yarn awhile a go. I’m going to try! Thanks to you! I cannot believe how tiny the chains/stitches are! But it feels good in my hands and so far…so good! I’m doing it. Thanks again. Xo
I love this! So pretty, you did a great job. This makes me want to get my thread out again, as I had a phase where I was making a ton of doilies. Pineapples are addicting.
Oh man! That is so beautiful! Oh, You are going to finish it good! I was hoping you would. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. What is a “community post”? I’m glad I washed this video before starting it. Not that I can do it now, I’m still working on that blanket, but I’ve found it’s always best to watch first. Anyway, I love making shawls and this is a great variation of a shawl. Thanks for sharing, I’m definitely going to make this in the future.
UA-cam allows up to leave a " Facebook" style post here on youtube now ( only for creators) , but it allows me to communicate with you all outside of videos , I can leave links that way too, if you go to my channel page, at the top you will see many options , just click the one called " community" and you will see the posts I have left , that is a good place to see what I have going on :)
As far as blocking goes effusive carpet pieces you put together like a puzzle flipping ovary perfect blocking board and they're not expensive I paid $8 for about 6 and they work great
I just pin things to the mattress in my spare room and let them dry ..sometimes I go back after they're a bit drier and adjust things if it's lace or cotton especially.
Oh my gosh this is so pretty ❤️ i agree it does not need to be blocked. I loved watching you makes this. And the extra step added at the end. To create the point of the pineapple, is perfect. Thanks for this video
I “block” acrylic with a wet cloth and an iron (proper setting for acrylic). It might get rid of your fuzziness. I do it on an ironing board with a towel and safety pins.
Applause, applause! I stopped using Caron Simply Soft because it is so splitty, and it can't hold a knot to save it's life. If the knots would hold I would have overlooked the splittiness, but being able to stay together when changing colors matters more. This is really lovely. Good job! Oh, for those of you don't have or can't afford blocking boards, at least invest in some rust-proof T-pins, and use flattened down cardboard boxes! I flatten out an old Amazon box, spritz or dampen the work with water, and pin into place. It works! Hugs
Absolutely gorgeous! ❤ For me as a lovely bedjacket. I only wouldn‘t use acrylic/polyester bc I got allergic to all artificial material. Love crocheting and love your historical projects. Thank you for inspiring us!
Another great video! I don't use any equipment to block my crochet. I just get it wet and press it in a towel to get most of the water out, then spread it over the back of my sofa or the arm of the sofa if it is just a small piece. Then I gently pull it into shape horizontally, letting it drape over the slope of the padded sofa so that gravity helps a bit to stretch it vertically. I fiddle a bit to shape all the little scallop edges etc...and make sure it is still stretched out along each direction. Depending what type of thread I use it might air dry in a couple of hours, or overnight. I don't find it necessary to pin it or anything but that is always an option, pinning it to the surface. I have also done this on my bed with the blankets I've made which needed more space. It always looks so much better after blocking.
I do the same on my spare mattress which is usually sideways to save space. It's very handy. I've only pinned lace at every scallop and every little picot to get them straight and that usually takes a while. I press it dry first then pin one side so it hangs then pin all around and then a while later when it's dry but still damp I will adjust it and stretch it out Coa it takes me a while to see where its kicking and it seems to not be too flexible when it's fully damp but as it dried it gets more able to stretch ..I keep finding my grandmother amaxing lace and some I think is my great grandmothers cos its so old. Amazing stuff. At first I just laid it flat but I am realising I need to pin it properly and also fluff some bits up which I realise are meant to stand out. That's harder and not sure how you're supposed to do it I just flip at it with my fingers. 😂
Hi 👋 😊. I don’t have blocking materials either. I use pine boards (4 inches by 2 feet) and pushpins. I’m not kidding lol. It works out. I shape them and then tack on my work. I either wet block or use a steam iron an inch over once it’s in shape. But I hate blocking so I rarely do. I know everything would look so much nicer though.
Hi Corinna, this is absolutely beautiful! I would wear this as a bed jacket. I have some Michael's Woollike yarn that may work for this. For blocking I bought some of those foam interlocking mats at Home Depot and use quilting T pins. You can steam block acrylic successfully.
I… this looks so difficult. I’m so impressed by how beautiful it is though. I definitely think I should start on smaller projects and use this video to motivate me to be good enough to give this a try. You are a lovely teacher.
Thank you so much, you may surprise yourself if you just give it a try , just work it one row at a time and don't think about the next row until you need too , next thing you know , you have finished it and that's when you step back and say , Oh wow, I can totally do this , I totally just did that It's easier than it looks :)
I love this pattern a lot! In Italy, one of my first works (I was very very young and in the 70s) was with the pineapple stitch. Fun fact: the name is due to how the stitch is made to look like a piece of pineapple (when you look at the skin with the pointy needles), and not the design of a pineapple. At least, that is how I was taught back then. I now want to go and dig out all the Italian patterns from my childhood and redo them! But, I'll save this cape pattern cause it is so gorgeous that I want to make my own. Thank you for sharing! By the way, which other channel do you have? I love watching you.

Cant wait till my exams are over and i can spend the summer crocheting!
Beautiful absolutely
Thanks!
Thank you !! 🤗🤗
You have honestly become my favorite crochet UA-camr. Thankyou for sharing.
thank you so much ! :)
That is so beautiful it might be my next project
I instantly fell in love with this and had pulled out some yarn and was stitching away before I was even a quarter of the way through the video lol. It is coming along beautifully! Your videos are well done and easy to follow. Thank you for introducing me to the wonders of vintage crochet!
I love this channel so so much. I get super excited every time I have seen you’ve uploaded a video. ❤ Thank you so much for doing vintage crochet.
Really llove this as a bed jacket. I ekill make it fot a new member of the family(through marriage) as a welcome to the family gift. Thanks for the how-to lesson. Wonderful videos!
Its so nice to have some one to crochet with .😁
I really love your vintage crochet works it is fantastic an am avid fan of yours.
It's so pretty. I can imagine it teamed up with the little cuffs. Super cute. Thanks for sharing and the company. X
It has been wonderful knowing you, really! Iam loving every minute of your tutorial. Thankyou🙏🏾
Beautiful 🎉
Just started this cape in 4 shade milk acrylic in shades of pink and its looking fabulous xxxx
I have an old steel hook, brand name Boyle on it. I think I got it from my grandmothers things when she passed. I’ve been using it since early 1990’s. It’s marked 15 cents.
Wow!!! How exquisite is this?!? Love the look of this delicate beauty. Thanks so much for sharing with us♥️👏♥️
Finally, i finished watching. Lol. Been working on my crochet plant. I do like the last suggestion of making the point better. It is super cute❣ i must consider downsizing this ond as well. 🤔🥰
I love these! I keep saving so many of your videos to make and I’m backed up 10 patterns now. lol. I Will get to each!
I have blocking items so I may , I have also done that pattern, however I have moved ,thus thanks I have enjoyed your ever ya call follow . I am checking my moved stash planin' to ,do one with another pineapple within. For drape. Bye.
I love your channel and what you do, keeping the gorgeous vintage style alive! ❤
I got to try this one, the pineapple pattern has been a favorite of mine for many years 😊
It's beautiful but it take so much work.
It turned out being gorgeous of course ❤
Xo
This is so beautiful I think you are right when saying and tr pineapple ❤
I have been looking for a caplet exactly like this ine, forever. Thank you!!!
You’re very welcome 🤗🤗
I love this! So pretty, you did a great job. This makes me want to get my thread out again, as I had a phase where I was making a ton of doilies. Pineapples are addicting.
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.
@@justvintagecrochet Thanks I’ll check that out 😃
Oh my goodness 🙆🏼♀️
I have this pattern! So I’m now on this journey with you!!!
Thank you for inspiring me to just jump in and get it done👍
This cape is beautiful ❤️
so cute..!!!
Wow that is so gorgeous ❤ I am so glad I found this video and therefore your channel 😊
This turned out so cute! Thank you for sharing!❤
I am truly enjoying your channel and its content. I love these vintage patterns and I am so happy that you are sharing them. Thank you.
Thank you! 🤗
Thanks for this video
thank you :)
Absolutely gorgeous! I might try this one. Thanks for sharing
I “block” acrylic with a wet cloth and an iron (proper setting for acrylic). It might get rid of your fuzziness. I do it on an ironing board with a towel and safety pins.
Thank you so much for this video! Im loving this pattern! I'm using a brown/black cake yarn in fingering yarn 💗 I can't wait for the fall to wear it!!
It works! Hugs
thank you so much :)
I LOVE how this turned out!
this channel is a dream, i love it sm 💖
Truly beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful 🤩
Beautiful! Perfect to wear with dresses that show too much skin on top! Do you wear these things that you make?
Hi Corinna, this is absolutely beautiful! I would wear this as a bed jacket. I have some Michael's Woollike yarn that may work for this. For blocking I bought some of those foam interlocking mats at Home Depot and use quilting T pins. You can steam block acrylic successfully.
It'seems very nice; short
I… this looks so difficult. I’m so impressed by how beautiful it is though. I definitely think I should start on smaller projects and use this video to motivate me to be good enough to give this a try. You are a lovely teacher.
Thank you so much, you may surprise yourself if you just give it a try , just work it one row at a time and don't think about the next row until you need too , next thing you know , you have finished it and that's when you step back and say , Oh wow, I can totally do this , I totally just did that
It's easier than it looks :)
@@justvintagecrochet See, that’s what my roommate keeps telling me. Alright, two wise crafters must be right. I’m going to give it a shot.
@@RoseKoneko heck yes! 😁😁😁
Blocking can be done on an opened up cardboard box with a towel over it and sewing pins. All the special equipment is not necessary.
