Yeah, about ten years ago, my cousin was forced to give up anime, after being into it for a while and moving. This actually lead her to start smoking weed, and drinking in middle school, and not graduating high school. To top it off, it continued when they moved back, and her mom actually ripped pages from her Bleach manga, and rolled a joint, and smoked it to get her point across. The manga page, of course didn't light right, and she ended up throwing the whole book away. She explained to this to me when she was giving me her other mangas, and told me something along the lines of, "I hope you grow out of those stupid cartoons too." The irony is, that their son, her younger brother, REFUSED to give up anime, and reintroduced his dad into geekdom. Letting him know it was now more mainstream, and there were plenty of adults who collected comics. Now his dad has a comic book room full of old figures, comics, ect. And the mom is forced to accept it. So if she held on, she might have been allowed to be an otaku with me. She used to love it! Now, she still hasn't gotten her GED, and ironically her younger weeaboo brother, is the only one to graduate...
@@TSPH1992 Yeah. Their mom called anime a distraction. But he was allowed to watch it and be a fan as a kid through to adulthood. She isn't even the only FUNimation person to do this to dubs. Remember when Prison School's dub was changed to include a GAMERGATE reference of all things? I forget the dudes name, but he gloated about making that change too on twitter. He later cried on twitter when the line was redubbed following the controversy.
Really "weird" that these people of KickVic are the same ones attacking people and their opinions, or just mocking criticism in general, while telling us they care about people. They also seem to never get the anime they are dubbing, which is weird, as they should at least get the context right, before changing lines completely, be it for their agenda or just thinking it's the right context. As not knowing the context and then changing it, makes it bad or weird (or both) to those who actually DO care about anime!
Good comment and rant about how things were like for us when we were at School and often being belittled during our school years all because we liked Japanese Cartoons/Anime/Japanimation. Back in the 90s, we often had our anime censored not just in the dub translations but we also had visual censorship. Things are better now but what we got of Anime on early morning TV made anime look like something only kids would watch and how others would laugh at anime fans all because we liked Anime. Sure when it comes to more normal people at work and in society itself, it is still a negative stigma but it was worse in school when teasing and even physical bullying would happen. It still happens with the news media pointing at the gamers and try to label everyone who plays Video Games for more than 2 hours a day as some sort of addicted individual who has an addiction problem. When in reality a gamer may be trying to progress through a story, trying to figure out how to solve a problem in a level of a game, trying to grind to a higher level status to defeat the next boss, trying to perfect their moves in a fighting game or streaming in a shooting arena online game and some even take their e-sports seriously you need to practice. Same thing with anime and manga, most of us love to escape to a fictional world because normal people in the real world treat those who love fantasy in a really horrible way that some fans want to escape from the real world and be in a fantasy where they can enjoy what they love without being belittled by others who don't understand them. Also the industry it seems is so woke they stand up for LGBT community who faced real hardships in the past, yet they are acting like bullies to the nerds who have always been made fun of and sometimes get treated worse than what the LGBT community went through.
God willing, when the appeals come through, she will be as far from touching anime dubs to never again contaminate, and Japan picks up on this to revoke their privelege of further falsely portraying their IPs. When I talked a lot about anime in middle-school, a couple guys decided it'd be great to see if I could fit inside a locker. (I was really skinny) Turns out I can! Had to hammer on the door from the inside to get people to let me out. But to be positive about this planet, I actually came back to that middleschool a few years later, just because memories. And to my incredible surprise, *the janitor remembered me.* I hadn't spoken to him even once during my time there and I didn't even know his name. But when he saw me he was all happy, asked how I was doing, and went on about how those guys were such assholes and how glad he is that I found a new school. I'd convinced myself I really was just a loser, my hobbies were "wrong", etc. Yet this borderline-stranger comes up and supports me. That one conversation changed my entire life.
I don’t really watch new anime anymore I feel that most new shows are using the same basic plot as older shows if I really think about it the newest show I have recently watched is cells at work and the new fruits basket which doesn’t really count as it is a reboot of the 2000s show but more accurately following the manga more or less the only dubs I watch are those form the 1990s to the early 2000s nothing recent
the woman in the gif is The Evil queen after turning herself into an old woman in order to give snow white the poison apple. the tweet was obviously meant to be disturbing.
Okay, that’s pushing the boundary too far. Also, I’m too smart to know that not only Japanese phrases haven’t been translated accurately since I took Japanese class for a year, but Japan would NEVER mention or talk about pointless propaganda that is nothing but childish cancer to the anime community as if these SJW’s and Jamie Marchi were My Little Pony bronies and Sonic fans let on the loose and infect every normal feature they touch. Well, that’s another list to add in order to convince Toho to remove all anime rights from Funimation.
To them it's probably normal, right? Localisation is adaptation of a foreign script to fit the social context of a different culture, so this is literally how they think. Of course, I'm sure much of it is deliberate phrasing.
This is the main reason I trust VIZ dub over Funi dubs. And yeah, 10 - 15 years ago I kept quite about me watching anime because I didn't know who else to connect with. So when it came to things like Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, Digimon, and B-Daman. I simply had no one to talk to it about.
Dub is by default a heavy alternation and butchering. Dub will be never faithful to source. Changing voice actors is yet alone completely altering the personalities and characters.

What's she's doing could be considered vandalism on top of propaganda, misrepresenting and defacing the creator's original vision to further her own agenda. If she actually made her own anime series from the ground up as a mouthpiece for her ideology, I wouldn't be so disappointed in her, but instead she's hijacking the audience mangaka and animation studios like COOL Kyou Sinnjya and KyoAni worked hard/paid good money to foster and promote for. What she's doing is actively damaging the series' reputations with their target audiences, that's not just making a bad product, that's potentially burning bridges in the industry.
I go back further than 10 years. I was an anime fan in the early 90’s and we were treated like the scum of the earth. We were viewed as perverts, psychos, idiots, childish, etc. I was an outcast. I didn’t have a lot of friends. And what friends I did have, weren’t really into anime. Some were, but not all. I am glad that it’s viewed more positively than it was in the past, but now it seems it’s been hijacked in a way. I just want to watch an anime and not have a damn political agenda on full display. Especially if it wasn’t part of the original medium. Stick to the core script or don’t even attempt to bring it here.
So she made the claim of using propaganda tactics in the dub script changes to interject politics into the fandom, but then when she starts catching flak for it, she then claims she was kidding about it, first Jamie Marchi stupidly admits to turning anime dubs into propaganda to fit Funimation's agenda, then back peddles on it? This just goes to show that you can't trust anyone working for Funimation.
One thing I don't like with funimation is that they seem to try to force their dubs on you, I have it set to do subs by default but every time I pull up an episode it does the dub so I have to change it on every episode as they play. Then there's the fact that some of their catalog is dub only.
I tried emailing Funimation about the professionalism of one of their employees (the one mentioned in the video) and they basically sent out an automated reply saying they can't "find my subscription". Basically, you can't even provide criticism unless you're forking over money to them.
I was introduced to anime 24-25 years ago by my (now estranged) older brother, and again on my own 20-21 years ago (I'm currently 37 in age); the latter with OG DBZ and later anime such as OG Fist of the North Star, Curse of the Undead Yoma, Black Lion, Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll. I rarely brought it up when I was in high school for the same reasons you bring up here, but I was fortunate to have one close to my age who would watch anime with me back then. In today's times and also recently, a few of my colleagues bring up varying anime films/shows my direction to look into and in a twist of fate, it made me feel SO much better about liking anime (even RWBY) today. Seeing this video planted a smile on my face, reminding me that I shouldn't be ashamed for liking anime at my age. So thank you for sharing your story and thoughts on this, Hei. Much love, Wolvie :)

She explained to this to me when she was giving me her other mangas, and told me something along the lines of, "I hope you grow out of those stupid cartoons too."
The irony is, that their son, her younger brother, REFUSED to give up anime, and reintroduced his dad into geekdom. Letting him know it was now more mainstream, and there were plenty of adults who collected comics. Now his dad has a comic book room full of old figures, comics, ect. And the mom is forced to accept it. So if she held on, she might have been allowed to be an otaku with me. She used to love it!
The Funimation and Marchi cry out in pain as they strike you
Good comment and rant about how things were like for us when we were at School and often being belittled during our school years all because we liked Japanese Cartoons/Anime/Japanimation.
Well I guess we'll just have to boycott Funimation now.

God willing, when the appeals come through, she will be as far from touching anime dubs to never again contaminate, and Japan picks up on this to revoke their privelege of further falsely portraying their IPs. And to my incredible surprise, *the janitor remembered me.* I hadn't spoken to him even once during my time there and I didn't even know his name. Okay, that’s pushing the boundary too far. One thing I don't like with funimation is that they seem to try to force their dubs on you, I have it set to do subs by default but every time I pull up an episode it does the dub so I have to change it on every episode as they play. Then there's the fact that some of their catalog is dub only.
Is there anyway to watch an anime without this woke dubbing.

Dude what you said at the end is so true!
I tried emailing Funimation about the professionalism of one of their employees (the one mentioned in the video) and they basically sent out an automated reply saying they can't "find my subscription". Basically, you can't even provide criticism unless you're forking over money to them.
WTF LOL
