How To Use: SDRangel Version 7 Series (Part 1 of 3)

- In my November 2020 video, I talked about SDRangel Version 6 Series and how to get started in Windows 10.
Here we are in November 2023 and its time for a similar video focused on SDRangel Version 7.
Focus of this video is uninstalling, reinstalling and setting up a basic SDRangel environment on Windows 11.
Some use cases are detailed for using multiple SDR on one computer covering far apart spectrum such as 1090 MHz for ADS-B while also monitoring 120 MHz VHF aviation.

There were no version 4 or 5 videos as there were no major UX changes
I have SDR Angel and I like it, I use it with My SDR Play RSP DX and Aldam Pluto Sdr Radios, I use it on Windows 11, and Presently got a Raspberry Pi 4, with 8 gigs of Ram, and 128 gigs of Storage,

One of the best tutorials I've seen, it's clear and simple. I just have a question how to save the workspaces? I carried out the manipulations on the registry, carried out a new installation... but I cannot find where to save! I am in 7.21.4. Thank you in advance for your help.
Have a look under "preferences" and the bottom of the list should be "Save All" The trick is before you exit out, get all your workspaces and other features/channels set the way you want, then save. When you open SDRangel back up, it should start up how you last saved things. I am going to do video soon about this so keep an eye out.

Thanks for the walk through. Will add this to my windoz Emcomm gokit computer. I'm guessing the software will not run on a Raspberry Pi 4 4gig.
SDRangel will run ok on an RPI4. You may be interested in the SIGpi project which makes it easier to install SDRangel along with other programs useful for gokit sort of projects. Have a look here github.com/joecupano/SIGpi

If we had a antenna connected??? Why didn't you have a antenna connected? Are you sure this is version 7? I'm on 7.17.2 and this version looks different.
No antenna for a few reasons. 1 - I was at a hotel and reception was horrible 2 - Planned to do the audio in a later part (see part 2 and 3). See at the bottom right? That is version 7.17.0. If anything looks different its because however you arrange channels and features.
i haveradar box uat 978 , 1090 and vhf, so the time i wait to receive my pi 4 i could use it all at once thx for the video

I can't get any clear decodes on DMR and NXDN digital, just bloops and bleeps. Works fine on analog.
Sometimes an AMD based computrr has issues decoding digital modes compared to Intel ones. Its a complicated reason why to explain though. Also. What SDR are you using? Stability is important. Sometimes you need to tune slightly off frequency using the shift feature or adjust local oscillator adjust.
I get the initial loading screen, then it disappears and the program never opens.
What OS are you using and please say your on a 64 bit computer. You should not have much trouble using SDRangel on Win10 or maybe even Win7, but I run Win11 and Ubuntu these days. If the SDRangel logo appears after you click the EXE, maybe give it a few moments to fully start. If I new more what spec your computer is, that could help.
How connect kraken SDR to sdrangel?
A few steps 1 - You need to reserialize all 5 SDR inside Kraken so they are recognized individually. 2 - Each SDR in Kraken will function like any SDR as these are just like RTL-SDR V3.
It cant start on Win 10, just only first pic after installation, and disappeared

The only thing missing for me is installing a version 3 RTL-SDR on windows 11 so the program will find it.

@@hvdnmedia I worked that out. It’s been a few years since I added the RTL-SDR to a win 10 machine. One forgets these things over time.
Zadig isn’t a driver, it’s an application used to change the driver to one that works.
Next step is to see how SDRangel works.
Does these features work offline?
yes. there is no internet needed. you can also update a database of maps and aircraft too for better offline imaging.

WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO LISTEN TO SIMPLE NFM VHF HAM BANDS? OR REPEATERS.. WHY NOT SHOW SOMETHING SIMPLE THAT EVERYONE WANTS TO DO FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH THEIR SDR? NOT EVERYONE CARES ABOUT LISTENING TO AIR BAND. I CANT HEAR ANYTHING ON NFM WITH THIS STUPID PROGRAM.
It is very easy to monitor with NFM. Just go to "channels" and instead of selecting "AM Demodulator" select the one called "NFM Demodulator" There are also past videos from prior SDRangel versions focused on your simple needs. By now, many people should know the basics. This channel wants to focus on showing people how to get even more enjoyment from this great software. Sorry if this was not for you.

ALL ANGRY CAPS BECAUSE >YOU< can't do something as simple as punch in the repeater frequency. Unlikely to need a tone or anything to listen...
Great program and easy to get running. Guides and manuals very easy to follow.
@@hvdnmedia yeah.. not really... im not unfamiliar with sdr and all the programs available. i have had better luck with other software.. i can not get this software to do anything i want it to do.. particularly listening to vhf frequencies and repeaters.. i can see the signals but cant hear anything. and nothing i do seems to make a difference..
@@empireoutdoors7298 Strange. Why nog use the NFM Demodulator and you can hear plenty on VHF and also the repeaters?
