Sekiro is just better in every way. Yes I understand that Wukong is their first game but it doesnt matter since I judge a game by its own merit not the devs, especially if both of those games are priced similarly
About the Elden Ring commentary: ashes of war and summons are not “cheese”. They’re mechanics from that game and the devs expect you to use them in harder bosses.
Some points are very on-points! The game is hugely overrated! The most annoying thing for me is the map design. It just full of invisible wall. These wall are so poorly put so that players cannot know which is on track and what isn't
I agree about too many bosses that fly around and don't let you fight them. I also agree about invisible walls being annoying. Outside of that, I don't really agree with most of your takes. One of the best gaming experiences I've had in years.
@@u2bozzi871 I mean, I know what I enjoy. No game is ever going to resonate universally with everyone. Plenty of hype games I tried and never clicked with. This one seriously hit for me. To each their own.
@u2bozzi871 finished the game like a week ago. I stoll think it was an amazing game lul. The contrarian vibes are cool though, ya tend to get better areas to be that way in as you get older
Some points are fair, others are just mostly on you playing in a way that annoys you, "the enemies move too much and i cant land my finishers" -> you can inmobilize them, you can parry them to stagger them and land a finisher, you can super armor/jump their attacks to hit them while they are attacking you, etc... you deciding that running in to heavy attack in a bad moment does not make the game bad or the combat boring, its what you chose to do. invisible walls and odd hitboxes are a completely fair criticism. Level design, its okay, nothing amazing, nothing to be that upset about, its not great and its not awful its just mid. Bosses encounters and combat are just great mostly, with some spots where they missed the mark. Lore and art is top notch. Overall game is great, trying to imply that is overrated is ridiculous, we get very few games every year with the levels of good things wukong has, its not perfect but its really good.
This is one thing I am frustrated with youtube game opinion/criticism. When the industry is full of shit like Suicide Squad/Concord you don't need to shit on great games that try something. Especially this is Game Science's first game and it's a marvel. But I think people just like criticizing things, like even in the Zelda community it's now popular to shit on TOTK.
My opinion is so far incomplete but I came across this video because my initial impressions of the game is that it is indeed overrated. The level of praise it has gotten is astronomical, legitimately seen people compare it favourably to Elden Ring. Now, I don't consider it a soulslike but because the comparisons have been drawn. I have not felt anywhere near the level of excitement or thrill in any of the boss fights thus far. Even if we compare it to God of War, I feel most of the time that I can play at 30% focus and get by with one or two deaths. I don't know if this is down to boss mechanics, if it is down to OST or the levels itself. The level design is worse than mid I think, it would be mid a few generations ago, but nowadays it just feels jarring. For something to be mid, it must be average, and it is below average. Especially given that the levels are extremely unclear where you can and cannot go. Traversal through the map feels clunky and stilted. Every edge seems to snag, like you got caught in the door handle. I am only past the first rat prince but so far, although I like the game, I don't see why everyone is praising it as the second coming.
@@theshabbycommenter you have to remember easier games are more mainstream appealing than harder games, that's why some ppl like it more than ER but as objective quality game ER is much better
@@theshabbycommenter@theshabbycommenter it's because it's tied to the culture of China, any criticism would be dealt with toxic delusional fan base, the steam just received 95% positive reviews in just 2 hours of release, which says how desperate the fan base is, I played the game and I felt it was very interesting but it is not a masterpiece or a tier 1 game as the fan base and influencers claim it to be, in fact I agree with the metacritic score 82/100, it's a good tier 2 souls game with a shallow narrative and character development
Every review lied and said this game was not difficult at all. Im on 1000 eyed daoist ive fought every secret boss got the weaver needle so youd think that would make him easier to fight. but no his grab where he snatches you from his right side comes out with not warning or telegraph im convinced they just designed the game this way to make it feel like its a much longer game than it is.
Just search some videos in UA-cam and you can easily find many ways to beat it. These 2 bosses are actually not as hard as you thought. Just stay calm and always prepare for combo attacks.
The input lag ruined it for me. Some say it's due to framerate upscaling but I also have the feeling you can't input commands before the end of the previous animation. Because of this, I have the feeling combat isn't flowing well and I constantly have to keep an eye on my character instead of my enemy. If I don't and I mistakenly heal before the very last frame of my roll animation, the game does not register my input and my heal fails.
It is over-rated because it is anti-woke and pushes hardware to its limit. People will slap a 10/10 on anything that isn't woke these days, that is how much people are fed up of woke games. Just give us good games ffs....how have we gone from baldur's gate 3 one of the best games I ever played last year to this shit.
>that is how much people are fed up of woke games. That is how much grifters have seeped into gaming industry, along with wokies. I remember times when people used to scoff at "good" graphics because that would mean the game has no soul and no interesting gameplay. I remember when people bitched about lootboxes. I also remember when people bitched about fanservice with no interesting game play. Now, slap some half-naked sexy chick on a game, and gooners will gobble it, even if overpriced and filled with microtransactions, DLCs and other bullshit. Claim that the game is NOT WOKE, and these tards will do the same. I can handle couple DEI characters in the game, albeit with a little cringe, I won't tolerate shitty controls, input lag, and similar bullshit.
Some of the criticism is fair even though there’s some mountains out of molehills here. And I have to laugh at the Chinese conspiracy thing. Like, it’s a very solid game of a beloved story belonging to the biggest market on the planet. Not hard to figure out why it’s so popular.
I was really excited about this game but it was a huge letdown for me. I absolutely LOVED Stellar Blade and was told I would enjoy BMW. Womp, womp... I've got about 30h in it and it's really grating on my nerves at this point.
I honestly had much of the same gripes as you, but I think we are in the minority. Lots of rose colored glasses with this one, I think. Still had fun with it, not a bad game in my book, just a good number of flaws.
Comments: you’re bad that’s why you said this Video: beat almost all the bosses one try each, elden ring had streamers with 200+ deaths who loved the game. Skill has very little to do with quality
Most of the streamers who “loved the game” are sheep who A.) Are afraid to be real so they just agree with popular opinion like the fake sheep they are. B.) Get the game for free and then get paid to play it and leave a good review like sellouts. C.) They only play something if it’s trending cuz that’s what fake clout chasers do.
This is like an interesting experiment. People from completely different cultural environments will have completely different feelings when facing the same thing. It feels amazing to watch this video and read the comments.
Hey. Great video as always. I haven't played the game but I'm Chinese so I can give you a few pointers on the cultural stuff. 1. I think you hit the nail on the head on the national pride thing. Most Chinese players aren't loving this game solely due to quality, but because its the first single player game in China that's designed in line with Western conventions (a.k.a not a mobile microtransaction filled game or a MOBA/MMO), and it also adapts a beloved cultural touchstone of the country. You're argument that Journey to the West is Beowulf covers half the picture. Yes, the story is ancient, but I will bet most people know the story not from the book, but from a 1986 TV adaptation that was effectively the first major fantasy film production of any kind in China. That show basically reached Star Wars 1977 levels of popularity, and everyone saw that and was very impressed because they've never seen anything like it before. The 1986 TV show is hugely influential in China, basically shaping the core modern conventions of how Journey to the West looks and feels. Kids born from 1979 to 2005 basically grew up watching that TV show, and its influence is reflected strongly in the game. For example, the way the Monkey God speaks closely imitates how Sun Wukong speaks in the show, and heaven being a flat plane with clouds up to knee high in the intro is taken directly from the Show. It's easy to see why Chinese players got overwhelmed in emotion playing the first AAA adaptation of the Chinese equivalent of the Star Wars Original Trilogy that they grew up on, which is also a cornerstone of China's ancient culture. Quality kinda goes out of the window at that level. 2. You're very correct in arguing that China's video game industry has been stifled by the authoritarian government, but there's more to it. Access to technology in China basically went from "radios are the most advanced thing in the village" to "smartphones" in 30 years at most (1986 - 2012). What this means is that gaming culture developed very differently compared to Japan, which got its first video game console when China barely had black and white TV. Basically, the smartphone became many people's primary devices instead of the computer largely due to an app called WeChat. After WeChat exploded and became China's primary form of communication, smartphone use became widespread across China, including in more remote, poorer areas. Smartphones are cheaper than a PC, and you can use it anywhere, so it was a better sell to larger swaths of the population than PCs. Therefore, Chinese game development priortized free to play mobile games due to lower cost of entry on a device more people used more frequently. This, alongside the fact that the government thinks video games are digital cocaine due to simulated violence (basically the same thing the conservatives said in the US about DOOM or GTA way back), meant that traditional game consoles were banned until the Xbox One/PS4 Era. You could not get an Xbox 360 or a PSP legally in China. Therefore, due to government restrictions and the difficulties of getting hardware to play non-mobile games, game development in China focused overwhelmingly on mobile pay to way trash, while PC/console gaming remained a curiosity of the urban upper-middle class. That is, until the government began cracking down on mobile and relaxing its grip on console gaming when Xi Jinping took power, and people in China finally got rich enough where buying a console wasn't a massive expenditure when compared to phones, and you get Black Myth: Wukong - China's first major single-player game released in 2024, against China's mobile-dominated market norms. Again, great video. Definitely won't be picking up this game until a very deep sales. Thanks.
The 1986 TV show is also hugely popular in Vietnam. In fact, for many people, including me, the show was most likely our first exposure to Chinese culture. I remember my parents buying me an electronic organ, and the only thing I really wanted to learn how to play was the opening theme of that Journey to the West show.
Don’t try to play your Chinese card and represent what’s going on stupid boy😅 I’m Chinese and I love this game. I don’t love this game because of anything related to first AAA game in China. Through all the years, many developers and producers use JTTW IP and made shit. I hated those productions. I love this game because I felt, as many other gamers like me, the devs put their heart and passion into it. The arts, the combat systems and the rewards etc… Yes it’s flawed, but am I enjoying the moment when I play it? Hell yea. I hate all of those tryna “I’m Chinese so what I say represent” kinda shit. Nah you don’t. You’re on your own😅
It is funny. They hyped up this game as some anti-woke goty masterpiece then three weeks later the game is forgotten as people dropped it for the next big hit titles.
What are you talking about? I see almost everyone still playing it or just finishing the game up. Top selling single player game right now I think and 2nd or third top player game including multiplayer.
@@based-ys9um okay? Why does that matter? They are people too, also there are a lot of people outside of china that got the game, people been streaming it since it came out and are recently finishing it up. Just because a large part of fan base is china doesn’t make it a not popular game. Also you can tell it’s not just china because there are videos made by English speakers and they have 500k-1.5m views and majority of the people that watch those videos are not Chinese ones, also look at steam reviews a lot of people aren’t Chinese. Idk why you commented this really.
@@Heman-x1n it doesn’t really, idk why your hating. Has decent combat, amazing animation, good graphics. The lore is confusing but that’s because people don’t really look into it that much, they have a lot of lore in journals and nobody really read that, so that’s their fault
Let me guess you think Ubisoft or Bethesda has been putting out great games or something this game is breath of fresh air and for the people constantly moaning about the invisible walls are obviously so used to open world games by now 😂
@@Austin.D No. I just have played other linear games like Resident Evil series, fromsoft games, god of war series, Bioshock series, older Arkane games, Alan Wake 2. Games that have better level design, better pathing, better indication of boundaries. Not very hard to find them since Wukongs level design is some of the worst I’ve seen.
I agree with some of your takes, though I have to say I enjoyed the first three chapters more than 4/5 (I'm currently at the beginning of 6). This is in part because the performance of the game takes a serious hit after chapter 3 on the PS5, making a lot of the boss fights feel reliant on RNG if a dodge will pull off or not, as you never know if the game will freeze or turn into a sludgefest or slideshow at a critical moment. I liked chapter 3 the best because it had distinct sections to progress through and visually was the most interesting, whereas the spider caves were pretty boring and chapter 5 felt like something torn from the latter half of Lords of the Fallen. Also, that boss in chapter 2 can be broken out of the whirlwind second phase with a special item, so you don't have to deal with it going out of attack range.
Great stuff. With so many great games, I'll take a look at this when on sale. Will you play WH40k space marine 2? it's gorgeous but the combat feels clunky. I can't say why, it's just weird, or maybe I'm playing it wrong.
I want to say games being overrated and flashy and "perfectly serviceable" but still getting treated as though they were the pinnacle of gaming is just kind of what happens these days, with every new release. I'm just waiting on a game that will still be worth talking about or played a decade from now, like the games we still talk about from the early 2010s. So far the only game I've seen in the 2020s that seems like a contender is Baldur's Gate 3. Maybe it's a little early to tell, being this early into the decade, and I don't want to be those annoying people that says "games just aren't good anymore!", but it really seems like there's nothing new under the sun. Games now feel really 'sandboxy', but what's the point of a sandbox if there's nothing interesting to do in it? It's not like games now are even "horrible and bad and terrible!!!" There's a lot of all or nothing thinking around games, either they're terrible and the worst ever or the greatest game ever made! But it all kind of just feels more "okay-ish".
Even last year which people say is one of the best year in gaming was imo kinda meh. Most of the aaa games are mediocre, the only exception that I remember are bg3, octopath 2 and maybe totk
@@therion451 yeah, honestly. And like, who's to say that those games will *stay* relevant, either? That's kind of what I'm thinking about, is like, which games will people be making retrospectives about and continue playing like, 10, 20 years from now? I talk to a lot of people who still talk about games like KoToR or Fallout: NV, and stuff like Skyrim stayed around because of like, moddability. Time will only tell what becomes of 2020s gaming.
Sorry but this game looks boring af. My brother bought it and said it was ok. I asked him if it was better than Spider-Man 2, and he said hell no. How the fk is goty title getting thrown around so easily for this game?

@@molotovribbentrop2839 If you check the steam sales charts, it has been topping every region's chart at launch, not just China. It's a Chinese game, and it's its first single player AAA game, the hype is normal, and that's how a 1.4 billion market performs, why not?
@@molotovribbentrop2839 It is their first AAA game that is based in their nation and culture. Chinese will undoubtedly flood it. When more foreigners than people from the country it originated from flood the comment section, it will get even more bizarre. Since I am South East Asian, if we create our first AAA game that is deeply based in our culture, you can bet that everyone playing it will be from my nation, especially if we do not have a well-known character like Wukong.
I agree with you, I think what makes it overrated is because this is the first triple A game by a china developer and the amount of it bought by the chinese makes it seem as if it's the best game ever and spreading fomo to the westerners, some bosses in this game have weird hitboxes making them not even fun to fight
Maybe you missed a lot of interesting information. Just like people who don't know how to drink coffee, they are easily distracted by the bitter taste of coffee. This game is indeed not perfect and has many problems, but in the context of the Journey to the West story and Chinese history, this game is really fascinating. I think if I knew nothing about it, maybe I would have a similar opinion as you.
Love your stuff as always. I'm on chapter 5 of BMW right now, and I love the game. However, I agree with just about everything you've said here. I think you're getting more frustrated about a lot of the things you've mentioned, such as the invisible walls, but I've absolutely noticed everything you've mentioned here. The one thing I disagree with is that this game is a soulslike. I ended up writing a blog post about that issue, because I've seen so many people call it a soulslike. This is an action RPG that pulls heavily from soulslikes, but the fundamental aspect of soulslike design in my opinion, is not present here, and thus I don't consider it part of that genre. Also, glad you mentioned Nine Sols. I'm an American, but I live in Taiwan, and that game and studio deserve so much more attention than they get. Excited to see your video about SW Outlaws, as I'm currently playing that as well.
It just clicked bosses aren’t actually hard just made to feel hard with awful gimmicks that make them virtually untouchable and simply waste your time. Actually hard bosses are Yellow Wind Sage (made easier with Wind Tamer) and the last one.
Completely agree. This game is so overrated, and I wish I didn't feel that way, but I do. The boss design is infuriating, and there are way too many bosses. I went from clapping everything in the first chapter to suddenly hitting this massive difficulty spike. I still haven't finished it yet because certain bosses have caused me to put the game down for weeks at a time. Perfect dodging is so crucial, but the window for them is so tight, and I swear the healing just doesn't register your input half the time, and you end up either double chugging or getting killed because your stupid monkey doesn't pull out the damn gourd when you press the button.
Ignore the haters in the comments. It’s an ok game. People get sucked into hype and group think. It’s like a 6.5/10. Repetitive, no map it’s fun but nowhere near as fun or engaging as Elden ring.
Elden Ring is another pointless slasher with no good story/lore, Just random boss fight after boss fight with pukey colors. Boring AF, I never got the hype 🤷♂️
I had to force myself to beat it. Only did it because the environments were awesome. Besides that the story and characters were pretty much forgettable. Most bosses were not fun to fight. In Elden ring fights were hard but fair and fun to learn and get through. Just saying that because in this game the feel so annoying and boring. The stances were pretty much the same. Weapons' and costumes were mostly for cosmetics reasons. The narrative in the game is all over the place. On one hand it feels like its trying to say some amazing epic story, but it's fumbled by it's pacing and jumbled together narrative. The characters just say shit each cutscene for the sake of it and part of me just wanted to tune it out. I understood the goal of the journey but besides that it was all really forgettable. They introduce characters at random and suddenly we are supposed to care weather they are an antagonist or ally. Nothing landed.
On your ER DLC video you mentioned how much the bosses sucked. Now you are saying you beat Radahn several times??? I think you are full of BS. And as someone that loves Santa Monica and FromSoftware studios, this is a love letter to them. Pretty good game.
The biggest flaw has to be the invisible wall, and I believe that's due the limited budget and a lot of content being scratched off at the end of the development. Other points, I don't know, maybe you can experience it as a game itself without trying to categorize it or even bring out any political points into it, because there's absolutely none politics in the game.
Idk what it is with this philosophy of "Every game that has hard bosses+lvling system=Soulslike" like games had these mechanics before darksouls. Having hard bosses isnt exclusiv to darksouls.
Because they all follow the same gameplay loop? X amount of free healing options that regenerates at bonfire checkjpoints. Annoying stamina system limiting your actions. Checkpoints respawns all monsters, same sluggish combat full of openings while devoid of hitstun on enemies to artificially up the difficulty and more. Demon Souls started this trend and every games copied it afterwards, its getting tiresome. If you're gona copy action games copy DMC or Ninja Gaiden more. We need more fast paced action games.
I swear for most people, once they see a stamina bar and a bonfire, it equals Soulslike. For me, a Soulslike is an interconnected world and managing your stamina bar (ds1 & ds2), and you don't have either in this game. Wukong is just an action game.
@YanDaMan263 if you can't figure out how to how to do basic things like stun bosses, knock bosses down, or use your heavy to parry a boss attack while smoothly transition into your own heavy attack that's on you the game has ways to do that sorry this isn't a game where you button mash and expect to win.
@@Xorn4359 Just because someone doesnt like Souls combat doesnt mean they are struggling little bro. Souls combat is completely uninspired after the first game where its all a copy paste of the same mechanic and game plan to beat bosses. Wukong is no different. Get off your high horse.
This is not the best game from China, but the most popular. The best games from China, as far as I know are Gunfire Rebourn or Nakara if you want BR. I looked long and hard.
I forgot about those other two games. I enjoyed them a lot but I had to stop playing them. The developers stopped supporting the Xbox version of Gunfire Reborn which made me sad since I liked playing it a lot but had nothing else to do. Naraka I played on my previous pc for a bit and liked it a lot as well but I never installed it on my newer system since it asked me to disable security features which I'm not going to do. That is VERY sketchy to ask of someone and makes no sense. Outside of these games I think gacha games have a big hold on their gaming market which is sad.
I fully agree with you about about the running uphill, the damn flying bosses and the running away/tiny punish windows and the comically fast grabs or attacks. They definitely made some mistakes and need to refine things in the dlc or sequel but for a first try they did awesome. Its an 8/10 game imo
4 me bmw actually has the best combat system with GoW, GoT and sifu..and i also played all From soft games and love them, but i absolutly cant agree with point combat beein bad here..its almost best ive played so far..but definitly agree on the invisible walls...that could have been better, overall the game is still a blast 4 me tbf😉👍
Still playing like a dragon infinite wealth, would take my few free time to play silent hill 2 remake as well this yesr too. Just waiting for at least 1 week after release and checking out non paid and honest reviews, from people just like yourself. Great job man, keep it up, thanks :)
Lmao, you dont need a chinese conspiracy to explain it, its a video game, not a walking simulator, not political propaganda, just a video game, its going to be popular for that alone. I also dont think you understand what a souls-like is and how that is different from an action-adventure.
Lol, just a video game that received 95% positive reviews within few hours of release on steam, yeah sure no political agenda, no propaganda, sure, the entire media and influencers campaigned for this game with political agendas over a single unknown dummy media outlets 😂
Kid you realize that the ccp funded this game because the ccp likes to fund anything and everything that makes china look good, yet censor anything and everything that makes china look bad right? How is that not political?
Except it's literally been confirmed this games hype is a chinese psyop, a chinese product and company can not exist outside china without being a arm of the chinese government, you people will claim games like cod are a cia op because it has the us military doing shit in it, but when the actual chinese government has open involvement in this game and being used as "china saving the west from itself" it's some how not a chinese psyop
It just looks good, not much else I could say about it. Just memorize what buttons to push at what particular time and do it for like 5 minutes per boss and you will win the battle. Things I really hated were the invisible walls, the potion ( so tedious and drawn out, sip glug glug), and the main character animation, the way he runs with his stupid weapon behind him. Got sick of looking at the main character. The music was kind of annoying and corny. I hope studios don't try to make something like this. Likely will though. We are in a kind of low point for everything right now.
I think for a first attempt at a big single player game this was very impressive. Even with the handful of flaws you illustrated and I agree with like the underdeveloped upgrading system (I think it’s strange that you can upgrade your armor but not your preferred weapon), I think the previews made it clear that this game was going to be almost entirely combat-centric and about funneling you to both main and side bosses, which imo the game accomplishes satisfactorily. I loved going to an area and picking a side path with the anticipation of finding a cool boss or secret area or finding an npc that can lead you to one, and while yes there are some more annoying bosses I didn’t mind changing my build and trying to stunlock it more, I feel that each player is going to have a slightly different experience with fighting them (personally I’m shocked to hear you beat most of them first try, many of them kicked my ass 😂) I think this game should tell people that games don’t have to be highly developed and micromanaged to include all the trappings of modern triple a games with endless side quests and cumbersome content, that a smaller linear game with warts and all can still be an enjoyable and even refreshing journey (no pun intended)
decent video, good examples. im still having a lot of fun with it. also you can use a 1/2/3/4 charged heavy at any point, no combo required, so i didnt understand that part. the main thing i wanted to say was if you meant Yellowbrow damages you in a cutscene, you can actually dodge those, but you have to be ungodly far away. so you're right and wrong but mostly right because it isnt feasible
Listen to these crybabies disregard the obvious fact that this game is a Chinese copycat of Nioh 2 which is a FromSoftware byproduct which is a souls like. Limited health, hardcore enemies, linear focused gameplay is that not the same thing as any other FromSoftware game??? They said the same dumb thing about Lies of P and that was bloodborne with a steampunk style. It’s not different it’s just a visually appealing game but it doesn’t reinvent the wheel by any means and it’s 💯 NOT GOTY.
Just like they lie and say it's not a soles like ......the other lie is that it's a "MORE APPROACHABLE SOLESLIKE"....BUUUULSHIT. It's crackerjack hard!!! It really makes me think the reviewers didn't play it all the way through
I’ve played this thinking it’s gonna be the masterpiece I heard it was but you described perfectly it’s a souls like game but with tons of frustration bosses don’t make sense combat system don’t make sense and the transformations feels pointless and half cooked and gear you just go along and craft the bigger number you come across rest is pointless, I’m tempted to just delete the game without finishing it.
@@BoBurnham69 I'm saying that i'm dissapointed that there isn't exploration at all. If i'd known that i would not bought it. I agree that the game is good, but with these kind of games i'm mostly looking for the exploration and not the bosses.

I wonder if the way the levels have been designed by Game Science was on purpose, with very weak regular enemies but challenging bosses? In any case, this choice clearly shows that the game can not really be considered as a Soulslike. Because the first things I associate with a Souls game are not the bosses, but the intriguing level designs of the Dark Souls series. Sens Fortress, Blighttown, Anor Londo, Catacombs, Shrine of Amana, Iron Keep, The Gutter, Earthern Peak are all very well designed levels where the player not only needs to keep track of enemies but is also hindered in progression through the environment (gravity, poison, fire, swamp, darkness, ...). You do not find this at all in Black Myth Wukong. Here you can not even die due to gravity, because the developers put invisible walls everywhere, as you described in the video. For me this also greatly reduces the replayability of the game, aside from the fact that many RPG mechanics from a typical Soulslike (different weapon types, stat level system) are missing.
💯 It was not great so many irritating things in it. Almost all boss fights are badly done and the areas are great in appearance. Yet the open world doesn't give you anything. The story is amazing as is the graphics. The abilities are mostly a pain and the game is random in responsiveness.
So it wasn't only me that feel the same about the first 3 chapters, I almost quitted the game in chapter 3 because it was really bad and then with chapter 4 I truly loved the game, still in chapter 5 and locking forward to beat the game and I agree with most of your points except with the game being a soulslike I think it has a lot of elements but is really not that type of game in my opinion.
Hmm you do get to upgrade the spear if you beat the secret boss. Also armor is not that expensive if you are exploring the maps. And the invisible wall thing did not bother me but I wasn't spending my time looking for walls to block my path while I was playing. This is no doubt goty for me, especially from a new developer. And the journal thing you mentioned what was you actuall point in even playing this? Pros: bosses, level, art, graphics, Cons: no map, stages can be convoluted, fell off the cliff in specific places the developers deemed necessary Overall this is an amazing game other than some of its minor flaws. I wouldn't miss this game if you are interested in action games or souls ganes
If he's THAT bad then why was the game so easy regardless? What happens when a good player gets their hands on it? Do they just blow through it with no challenge whatsoever?
They were very much feeling themselves by not including difficulty selection, and don't even get me started on new game plus runs. even basic enemies can melt your health bar for no reason other than devs wanting you to abuse the dodge button more than the attack button. I hate that they ruined wukongs story with this type of gameplay. I mean what's the point of having me grind for days for resources to upgrade my armor and health bar, only for me to face enemies that still kill me and make a joke out of all my hard work? then there's enemie types that can kill you with roars, not an attack not a kick or a stomp just a simple roar. The best thing about this game was the trailer.
i haven't played this game so i can't really pass judgment, but it seems to me that this game only became popular because of the anti woke stuff. i honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if it all was just marketing. all i heard about the actual game is that the female characters look good. no one mentioned memorable bosses, gameplay mechanics, level design etc
there's hella haters of the game just cause the developers are chinese i bet if there was social media way back then when japanese developers first started making game i guarantee hella people are gonna hate on japanese developers too
Sekiro,The Surge and Jedi Survivor are better games but I'm still enjoying Black Myth Wu Kong. Hopefully the dlc and future plans for this game may improve what they have done and possibly add certain features and other things that have been rushed. I think it's Sony who may have ruined the completion of Black Myth Wu Kong.
He's shit at the game so he's reaching to find anything he can rant about. In an era where half baked buggy games are the norm, a title like this that's almost blemish free should be appreciated.
The more I played it the less I enjoyed it. Half way through I just stopped playing chapter 6 and have never came back to finish it or have an attraction to want to do that. I do think it speaks to what a terrible state gaming is in that this and SM2 are GOTY contenders, not saying they suck but SM2 is less fun and has less content than a gears game from over 10 years ago and BMW is just make a wish dark souls, like if you played all those games just go do that instead of wasting your time with this
Stuff like the scorpion lord are just inexcusable Overall i agree with you jut then you go and say stupid stuff like elden ring’s story being bad, yet you praise bb story in the same breath. They’re just as good as each other.
Wow sounds like a SKILL ISSUE and not actually understanding or paying attention to the story. I never read JTTW, but I understood 95% of what was happening in the story. Also, I find it so annoying how EVERYONE thinks this is a souls-like when it is clearly not.
Agreed. It’s not great imo. People are going on and on about it being goty but NO friggin way. It’s mid as 💩. Some idiot told me they thought it was as good as Elden ring lmao!! Silent hill 2 remake or rebirth or metaphor refantazio are far better games.
Excellent video and points of view. I agree with 💯 everything you said and all your points stand valid. Idk what these wukong stans are standing for, the game could give two shits about their experience.
10:20 Melania is fun and much easier than Radhan. Have no clue why you're grouping them together, Consort Radahn is pure BS that is pretty unfair. Not only hard but annoying. Had to cheese him just to win, and I still died 20 more times Consort Radhn is a horrible boss design Wuukong's bosses imo are pretty damn aggressive, rarely passive. Not gonna shit on bosses for flying, I never had a fight besides Yin Tiger that actually gave me a hard time and wasn't even happy that I beat him. I like the boss design, wand learning their timings. Spells make it all work, and stagger so well, maybe you have a skill issue. You know I'm on keyboard + mouse🤓 like not kidding you may in fact have a skill issue, like the camera can be wonky, YIN TIGER, like a lot of your criticism is kinda moot, chapter 1 was fucking challenging in many ways, and NEEDED to be small and sparce with enemies. Level design is very nice, I hate the invisible walls but this game has GREAT level design aside from that jarring shit. and as a Souls fan, it is not a SoulsLike, it FEELS similar though, don't treat it like Elden Ring I hate how much XP you get in this game, leveling up is fucking ass. and you get just 1 Spark for beating BOSSES, never two ime just 1 and sometimes not even level up. Staff crafting is horrible, why od I need to craft a staff I ALREADY crafted just to use it again. Can't even be upgraded like wtf for more damage with the staff you like. Not much variety in terms of staffs. Like they could have done so much with it
Malenia and Radahn are both bad bosses. Radahn however is far worse. Malenia doesn't get a pass because people can watch a video 2 years later and learn to spin her to dodge waterfowl. Very few people figured out the things to beat her organically, and most players are still getting dragged through with summons and spirit ashes because it's hard to figure out how to beat it.
I think you're being a little too harsh here everyone seems to forget it's their first game and compare this to SW Outlaws or even Concord this game still wins by miles
Sekiro is just better in every way. Yes I understand that Wukong is their first game but it doesnt matter since I judge a game by its own merit not the devs, especially if both of those games are priced similarly
About the Elden Ring commentary: ashes of war and summons are not “cheese”. They’re mechanics from that game and the devs expect you to use them in harder bosses.
i was gunna say the same thing, miyazaki said it himself he uses them
Some points are very on-points!
That’s the hype talking its aight
I’ve been saying there’s better games like this God of war. And even better souls like games. It’s good but not second coming of gaming
I'd take these small grips over what Ubislop has dumping out
Some points are fair, others are just mostly on you playing in a way that annoys you, "the enemies move too much and i cant land my finishers" -> you can inmobilize them, you can parry them to stagger them and land a finisher, you can super armor/jump their attacks to hit them while they are attacking you, etc... you deciding that running in to heavy attack in a bad moment does not make the game bad or the combat boring, its what you chose to do.
invisible walls and odd hitboxes are a completely fair criticism.
Fully agree👍
I am only past the first rat prince but so far, although I like the game, I don't see why everyone is praising it as the second coming.

not only in that particular boss, in several bosses some moves are instantaneous, impossible to deal with. Scorpiolord is one example.

If I don't and I mistakenly heal before the very last frame of my roll animation, the game does not register my input and my heal fails.
absolutely true (playing PS5). Bit quite often the input is not registered. I tested it.
Thanks. Def just confirmed my decision.
💯 it's sad but yes the button lag is really about 5 seconds due to getting stuck in animations that leave you standing in the open waiting to get hit
Yes. Not enough people talking about this. Healing literally doesn't register your input half of the time.

Stellar Blade >>> Wukong
I honestly had much of the same gripes as you, but I think we are in the minority. Lots of rose colored glasses with this one, I think. Still had fun with it, not a bad game in my book, just a good number of flaws.
Comments: you’re bad that’s why you said this
Video: beat almost all the bosses one try each, elden ring had streamers with 200+ deaths who loved the game. Skill has very little to do with quality
Most of the streamers who “loved the game” are sheep who
A.) Are afraid to be real so they just agree with popular opinion like the fake sheep they are.
B.) Get the game for free and then get paid to play it and leave a good review like sellouts.
C.) They only play something if it’s trending cuz that’s what fake clout chasers do.
It's because all other games sucks so bad right now, it happens to not be a bad game therefore it's the best thing ever
This isn’t even the case. Most games released this year are far better than BMW
That is objectively wrong, there is a lot of good games coming out their just not in the mainstream or can't be used in the western culture war
SW Outlaws and Concord doesn't count
I had more fun with Kunitsu-Gami than Wukong
@@dibberz-v1zYour standards are low if you think good games came out this year.
Thanks.
I think you gave great context here. Thanks!
Great comment. Lots of interesting info.
Don’t try to play your Chinese card and represent what’s going on stupid boy😅
I’m Chinese and I love this game. I don’t love this game because of anything related to first AAA game in China. Through all the years, many developers and producers use JTTW IP and made shit. I hated those productions.
I love this game because I felt, as many other gamers like me, the devs put their heart and passion into it. The arts, the combat systems and the rewards etc…
Yes it’s flawed, but am I enjoying the moment when I play it? Hell yea.

Games that have better level design, better pathing, better indication of boundaries. Not very hard to find them since Wukongs level design is some of the worst I’ve seen.
Worst mechanic is the see-through attack seems completely luck based when you consider the fast attacks enemy's do
I agree with some of your takes, though I have to say I enjoyed the first three chapters more than 4/5 (I'm currently at the beginning of 6).
Chapter 4 is the favourite for Asians. It’s like Asians like subtle sweet taste in Dessert, that is considered non-sweetened in West.

The one thing I disagree with is that this game is a soulslike. I ended up writing a blog post about that issue, because I've seen so many people call it a soulslike. This is an action RPG that pulls heavily from soulslikes, but the fundamental aspect of soulslike design in my opinion, is not present here, and thus I don't consider it part of that genre.

Gameplay wise it screams Soulslike, apart from the terrible combat.
Yea I saw this game and I immediately knew it would be style over substance. People eat this garbage up.
I want my time back, game was pretty environments and characters designs, nothing else.
let me guess, China.
I agree with the part about the map.
It looks big but it doesn't feel big.(it feels empty and small)
Qll chinese games are shit no exception
I fully agree with you about about the running uphill, the damn flying bosses and the running away/tiny punish windows and the comically fast grabs or attacks. They definitely made some mistakes and need to refine things in the dlc or sequel but for a first try they did awesome. Its an 8/10 game imo
6/10 its not fully enjoyable the way it was layed out they need to fix the flying bosses and add map system.
I couldn't get into either...refunded.
This game is garbage. I gave it 2 hours and refunded.
Bruh.
2 hours? Then your hating just for the sake of hating.
Its just a decent game thats hard carried by its graphics. Its that simple. You know modern gaming is finished when this game is somehow amazing.
stellar blade is goty because of the flaws of bmw but stellar blade went wrong for being a ps5 excluive
Plenty of games come out that aren't walking simulators or propaganda and they aren't as "popular" as this game, despite being actually good.
I loved going to an area and picking a side path with the anticipation of finding a cool boss or secret area or finding an npc that can lead you to one, and while yes there are some more annoying bosses I didn’t mind changing my build and trying to stunlock it more, I feel that each player is going to have a slightly different experience with fighting them (personally I’m shocked to hear you beat most of them first try, many of them kicked my ass 😂)
I think this game should tell people that games don’t have to be highly developed and micromanaged to include all the trappings of modern triple a games with endless side quests and cumbersome content, that a smaller linear game with warts and all can still be an enjoyable and even refreshing journey (no pun intended)
decent video, good examples. im still having a lot of fun with it. also you can use a 1/2/3/4 charged heavy at any point, no combo required, so i didnt understand that part. the main thing i wanted to say was if you meant Yellowbrow damages you in a cutscene, you can actually dodge those, but you have to be ungodly far away. so you're right and wrong but mostly right because it isnt feasible
Wukong is 4/10, seeing it getting so much praise make me laugh at humanity! =)))))))))))))
At least Nioh is fun to play.
Just like they lie and say it's not a soles like ......the other lie is that it's a "MORE APPROACHABLE SOLESLIKE"....BUUUULSHIT. It's crackerjack hard!!! It really makes me think the reviewers didn't play it all the way through
I thought Elden ring was easier than this game. I don't who said this trash was approachable lol
ps2 ahh game
I’ve played this thinking it’s gonna be the masterpiece I heard it was but you described perfectly it’s a souls like game but with tons of frustration bosses don’t make sense combat system don’t make sense and the transformations feels pointless and half cooked and gear you just go along and craft the bigger number you come across rest is pointless, I’m tempted to just delete the game without finishing it.
i should have watched this video before bying the game.
games great. bro is just bad and trying to say its the game.
"i suck at the game ergo the game is bad"
Absolute clown 😹 the game is an undeniable masterpiece, top to bottom
@@BoBurnham69 I'm saying that i'm dissapointed that there isn't exploration at all. If i'd known that i would not bought it. I agree that the game is good, but with these kind of games i'm mostly looking for the exploration and not the bosses.
@@novoinythelvetti then why not play a survival game? U didn't even check what type of game is it?
Just catching your gameplay i can tell you dont understand the mechanics...
He doesnt. Same old "i suck at the game ergo the game is bad" 😂🤡🤣 goddamn joke(and not a funny one)
He obviously understood the mechanics well enough to beat almost every boss in the first try (as he mentioned, I believe). Better, actually, than many streamers I have watched playing this game.
I truly appreciate your highly critical feedback of games. Far too many reviewers are too forgiving and positive about games that do not deserve it. I can't believe people are saying Wukong is game of the year. FAR too many flaws for that. Liked and subscribed, please make more content!
the invisible wall thing is annoying
From your gameplay it looks like you’re making it harder for yourself. It’s also not soulslike, rather more like god of war
I played the game and can confirm this shi a soulslike just because it doesn’t have pick up souls after u die means it’s not a soulslike???is so disingenuous
@@u2bozzi871 play gow or dmc. It takes from those games. This game is more based on abilities and perfect dodges. Why is it whenever any game had a bonfire system it’s a soulslike? People love throwing that term around nowadays. I don’t ever remember any soulsgame having perfect dodge mechanics
@@Viking2044 you are either in denial or you have never experienced a fromsoft game.... the similarities are so obvious, its way more similar to elden ring/sekiro compared to GOW and DMC. You are just regurgitating what you read on the internet. to be real, its nothing like DMC and only has slight similarities to GOW.
Stamina bar = soulslike. Even though most modern soulslikes have such generous stamina bars that they might as well not even exist.
@@Triannosaurus saying i regurgitated that take then comparing black myth wukong to a game like sekiro which had almost no similarities whatsoever is hopeless…
the game ain't bad but it does feel more like a AA game to me
its a pretty mid game just an unreal engine showcase game...
But Pagoda Realm is the worst level, somehow there aren’t any invisible walls and u can actually fall to your death.
Totally agree with your vid. Glad somebody isn't wearing pink glasses.
bro thinks the game is over rated because of his lisp LMAO
I played the game maybe for 3 3 hours sittings and I’m kinda done with it. It’s just the same thing and kinda boring.
I was bored by chapter 2. I wish I could get my money back.
Only you and Ranton have been open about Black Myth:Wukong
Everyone else has been shilling the game so much.
Tell me you didnt even touch the game without telling me 😂🤡
"Only these two people have had opinions I agree with, so they are open. Everyone else says things I don't agree with, so I call them shills."
You're only trying to justify your purchase.
I've played a lot of video games, and I can tell when a game isn't worth full price.
Pros: bosses, level, art, graphics,
Cons: no map, stages can be convoluted, fell off the cliff in specific places the developers deemed necessary
Overall this is an amazing game other than some of its minor flaws. I wouldn't miss this game if you are interested in action games or souls ganes
This sounds like a dspgaming take. You couldn't even do one perfect dodge. Being bad at the game would make you dislike it.
Facts all day
96% of steam players thought this game overwhelmingly positive. You are 4%
Did you even watch the video? Dude brings up good points.

i haven't played this game so i can't really pass judgment, but it seems to me that this game only became popular because of the anti woke stuff. i honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if it all was just marketing.
all i heard about the actual game is that the female characters look good. no one mentioned memorable bosses, gameplay mechanics, level design etc
there's hella haters of the game just cause the developers are chinese i bet if there was social media way back then when japanese developers first started making game i guarantee hella people are gonna hate on japanese developers too
Sekiro,The Surge and Jedi Survivor are better games but I'm still enjoying Black Myth Wu Kong.
I do think it speaks to what a terrible state gaming is in that this and SM2 are GOTY contenders, not saying they suck but SM2 is less fun and has less content than a gears game from over 10 years ago and BMW is just make a wish dark souls, like if you played all those games just go do that instead of wasting your time with this
Stuff like the scorpion lord are just inexcusable
Overall i agree with you jut then you go and say stupid stuff like elden ring’s story being bad, yet you praise bb story in the same breath. They’re just as good as each other.
Amazing critical analysis. You deserve more subs dude.
I think this is the game I enjoyed the least, in my entire life.
I just liked it because it is Chinese themed, but the game is crap

overrated for sure or why else would it need massive A&P

Its a good game but hugely overrated probably cuz we hardly get to see good games these days.
Your just not looking hard enough
Agreed.
Had to cheese him just to win, and I still died 20 more times Consort Radhn is a horrible boss design
Wuukong's bosses imo are pretty damn aggressive, rarely passive. Not gonna shit on bosses for flying, I never had a fight besides Yin Tiger that actually gave me a hard time and wasn't even happy that I beat him. I like the boss design, wand learning their timings. Spells make it all work, and stagger so well, maybe you have a skill issue. You know I'm on keyboard + mouse🤓
like not kidding you may in fact have a skill issue, like the camera can be wonky, YIN TIGER, like a lot of your criticism is kinda moot, chapter 1 was fucking challenging in many ways, and NEEDED to be small and sparce with enemies. Level design is very nice, I hate the invisible walls but this game has GREAT level design aside from that jarring shit. and as a Souls fan, it is not a SoulsLike, it FEELS similar though, don't treat it like Elden Ring
I hate how much XP you get in this game, leveling up is fucking ass. and you get just 1 Spark for beating BOSSES, never two ime just 1 and sometimes not even level up.
It is not a perfect game, but it definitely stands way above a lot of most games that came out in the very recent years.
Which Says alot about the current gaming industry and how far it has fallen from grace.
