  • Nest T013 Unable to connect Nest x Yale with Nest Connect - Workaround / Fix
    Figured this out once day when I kept experiencing connection issues with the Lock. Simple solution, if you have difficulty navigating your Router frequencies.
    Requires a mobile phone with hotspot capabilities.
    Thank you for watching and let me know if this worked for you as well.

    You are a miracle worker!! I have been fighting to get the Next X Yale connect to wi-fi for over 4 months which resulted in no less than 6 meltdowns, 2 bottles of vodka consumed, and my husband ready to have me committed. Pretty sure the dogs were scared too as I yelled long streams of half-made-up obscenities at this lock. I was convinced we needed to upgrade the wi-fi (turns out we still have the fastest) and got my two most "techie" friends to look at it to no avail. The next step was going to involve the priest doing an exorcism. I can't even express how triumphant I feel right now. Going to go drink mead out of a silver stein. Thank you!!!!

      😂😂😂 Best comment ever! So glad to hear your lock is now functioning as intended, you won’t be committed, your husband gets his wife’s full attention back as she continues to nestle the vodka bottle - because why not, global pandemic and all but hey… we can lock and unlock our locks from our phones or with our voices, tech is fun. When it works. You are most welcome!

    You are a lifesaver sir! I was about to chuck the door lock across the street. My Yale X lock had been connected and working great for over a year and then without any reason went offline. The only way I could get it back online was to create a new home location in Google Home. Of course this would mean having to reconfigure everything in the house which would have been such a PIA. After watching your video and following what you did, boom... back connected (after resetting the lock, resetting the connect, rebooting my phone, router, modem, removing Nest Doorbell).. I've over 50 devices in my home network so I'm no rookie but man... this stupid lock had me ready to snap. Thank you!

    Thanks for this video.
    Using your guidance, I was able to get one of my new Nest Locks to connect but I couldn’t get the second one to connect after a week of trying.
    I gave up & called OnTech for a service call. The tech arrive & immediately knew what to do. We removed my two Nest Thermostats from my Nest account.
    While the thermostats were off the network, we went through the connection process for the locks & all worked as designed & then added thermostats back to my Nest account.
    Not sure having two locks created a unique problem for me & yes the service call to OnTech was worth every penny.

    Genius! I finally decided to deal with Nest Yale Lock in offline status. Reset factory lock. Totally not necessary. Just requires connecting Nest Thermostat to Hotspot as you suggested. Didn’t need to do anything to Nest Connect. Once I switched Nest Thermostat to Hotspot, The Nest Yale Lock (previously connected) automatically reconnected. Then I just clicked the Nest Thermostat back to regular WiFi network. Awesome! Thank you! Yay! Happy Happy!

    Hello all, I was about to follow the video's instructions, (which could've perfectly well worked per the video and several comments below) but instead I factory rebooted the Nest Yale lock. You need to remove the case, remove batteries and on the sides you'll see 2 screws. Unscrew them and then remove the Yale so that you can press the reset button. The keep it pressed while you put batteries back in. Then follow instructions on how to reset. Then add in Nest app and follow instructions. If you get error message try it once or twice more and you'll be fine.

    Legit my issue was the thermostat being on 5ghz and the connect being on 2.4ghz, no matter how many times I reconnected the nest connect on a wifi6 router it would last at most an hour. Thank you for this video.
    It was fine up until a month ago or so after some firmware upgrades, I guess it’s best case to keep iot and small devices off 5ghz entirely, idk why I ever connected the thermostat to 5ghz in the first place.
    TLDR: the thermostat changing from 5ghz to 2.4ghz solved the connectivity issues with my connect almost instantly.

    • @JohnPauls
      @JohnPauls  11 місяців тому

      Yes I have an Orbi with 4 satellites, temporarily turn off the 5GHZ and try the procedure again. Make sure the lock batteries are recent.
      The factory reset procedure for the connect is not straight forward. Do this as a last resort.
      Reset the Connect: If you hold Connect’s button for more than 8 seconds, the light will turn yellow, release the button right away.
      Then immediately press and release the button once.
      A yellow light means that Connect is trying to reset itself to factory defaults, which will remove Connect from the app. Releasing the button while the light is yellow and then pressing the button once will cancel the factory reset.
      You’ll need to add it back to the app after the reset.
      You’re most welcome and good luck. 👍🏼

    I'm having the same issue, the issue seems to be dual band mesh networks that simultaneously run 2.4 and 5Ghz. The lock connects only to 2.4 hz, I have an eero mesh network and I am able to pause the 5ghz connection in order to setup my device, but somehow still have the same error code. I think like you mentioned in the video, the darn nest connect is feeding off of some other nest device (I have nest hello and nest thermostat) still using 5ghz. It seems like such a pain to swap all my devices to my iphone hot spot. On, that note I tried connecting my nest connect to my iphone hotspot but for some reason it can't find it. How did you get it to find your iphone hot spot without issues? I'm like 5 hours into trying to make this thing work...

    • @JohnPauls
      @JohnPauls  2 роки тому

      That is exactly the issue, I mentioned it in the the video, also using a dual band Orbi Mesh. I used an iphone 11 pro, ensure allow others to join is ticked off, have a simple password set up and be near the thermostat. Search for the hotspot on the thermostat then proceed with the rest. You won’t need to switch all, just the thermostat and then the lock. Once the lock has signal, switch back on the thermostat to the regular network, everything else will follow suit.

    I'm having an issue with both my door locks, they show offline, and there seems to be no way to reconnect to NEST CONNECT. Nest Connect is setup on Wifi, but I can't add my door locks back onto the connect. Seems Nest may have done an update that no longer works for my door locks. Really lame.

    I’m having a similar issue. I have the Nest Yale lock, the Nest Hello, and google home mini. My nest connect seems to be hooked up to 2.4 hz only and I have the ASUS Zenwifi aimesh system. Does this mean I have to hook up all my google devices to either my hotspot or to the 2.4gh network in order for me lock to be online?
    Just found out my cellular plan doesn’t have mobile hotspot either. 😔
    Or am I better to just return my mesh router and just purchase a regular non mesh router?

    Edit: I was finally able to get my nest connect to connect to the app. I needed to reset my thermostat, which then allowed the nest connect to use my nest protect as a way to connect to wifi. Of course, now I can't get the nest connect to connect to the door lock yet, but baby steps. Original: I am having the hardest time getting the nest connect to actually get added as a device. It always fails to connect to the internet when trying to connect to my thermostat. I am in the starting stage, and this still didn't work for me. So far I have never been able to get my nest connect to connect to the thermostat for wi-fi. Killing me.
