I hope you know the difference on its polar patterns( Cardioid, Omni Directional and Bidirectional) Cardioid - it pick up sounds with high gain from the "front and sides" but poorly from the rear. Omni Directional - that pick up sound with equal gain from "all sides" or directions of the microphone Bidirectional -provides a signal whenever the sound is different on the front and the backside of the diaphragm Podmic Polar Pattern Is only Cardioid while the Boya M1000 has 3 Polar pattern (Cardioid, Omni Directional, Bidirectional Polar Patterns). And I guess that the polar pattern Boya used in your video is Bidirectional. For me both of the mic's did well, I hope next review, you're unbiased
No it’s cardioid. I’m very sure. I’m very sure of the polar pattern since it’s marked. So there’s no bias was when it comes to testing both. Also in bidirectional, it should be equal. The only bias is personal preference which I think both are ok, just a preference as what everyone commented below.
Hi ZP. Have you tried this microphone on any instruments? The frequency response curve shows a slight bump 500Hz-1K, and a gentle roll-off above 10K, which actually, sounds like it would be ideal for instruments such as guitar or piano. Any chance to test with instrument?
Thank you for the review! I've been interested in both of the mics as of recent. Would you know where we can buy the Podmic for those based in Asia/Southeast Asia? Thank you!
I dunno, that BOYA sounds really stuffy. It could be in part the grille, but I would actually want to at least replace the capsule and possibly the electronics, depending on the circuit it uses. It does have a standard size capsule so I don't think it would be an issue to use the existing electronics with an upgraded capsule. The big draw for me is the switchable pickup pattern.
The mic seems geared for instrumentation, with slight bump 500Hz-1K, and a gentle roll-off above 10K (the chart is in the owner's manual). So it won't have the upper 'air' as much as other mics, as it rolls it off. So it's mid-forward and low-noise. Also, gain setting was much less, so it has higher output likely. It's probably a good instrument mic... maybe better on instruments than vocals. In fact, it's the ANTI-Chinese Chinese microphone... most Chinese microphones have significant boosts in higher-end frequencies, even for example, AKG P series which is German owned by Chinese made. This is closer to sE Electronics - maybe does not have the presence, but hard to tell from the UA-cam, one would need real samples to hear. But still, quite interesting and promising microphone. Maybe Boya is similar to Rode as a company, but builds their own products like sE Electronics. Interesting mic!
The Podmic has a much clearer and sharper tone, the Boya has a lot of bass and this, in my opinion, interferes with the clarity and tires the ears of those who listen for a long time.
Np. The blue yeti is a lot more convenient, both of this mic require an external pre amp. After testing quite a few mic, the easiest way to make your any mic sound good is make sure it’s Super close to your face.
Nice comparison. The Rode is a lot clearer and open. The Boya is a bit muffled. Guess it's possible to fix this in post production, but the Rode feels like it's better sounding straight out of the box.
I think from a sound quality standpoint, it is better for sure. The Podmic I feel is just something more useful if you are just wanting to podcast/make videos.
I agree... I don´t know what have caused it, but his voice at RODE is "hotter" (I don't know it's the best expression, I'm not a native eng speaker), almost like cliping, at first I thought the gain was too high... From Boya its more "velvet" and has more body...
@@HDJMorrison Actually I quite agree with your statement on it. If you seen my other videos with the podmic, its actually very apparent. I will say the Boya is overall smoother and laid back (rather then exciting)
I think the Boya has a more full, rich, warm sound.
Thanks for your review... I prefer the sound from the Boya than Rode.
Thank you for your hardwork! I hope you make another test on the boya. There ain't much reviews about it. Thanks again!
same testing that Podcastage does but what can I say...it's the best way. Good video, thanks u!
U r comparing a dynamic with a condenser, this is not even a good comparison
He's comparing a dynamic podcasting mic to a condenser studio mic. Bottom line, guys: pick one that fits your use case. 🙂👍

But maybe I can try bi direction and pure cardioid. See how much difference there is hmm.
@@ZPProductions You can clearly see if you pause your video that the Boya is not on its cardioid setting when you're testing it around...
@@maximilianberbechelov trust me the switch couldnt go down anymore.
It will be good if you can do a comparison with another condenser mic of equivalent price, eg. Rode NT-1
AT2020 vs this mics?
undoubtedly Boya
Like your review. Had me cracking at 4:29 haha
Great review!
Thank you bro, i really enjoy while watching this video.
Np. Do look at the mic video since there’s quite some choices at this range too :)

Sadly I dont play any instruments haha. Maybe one day I go pick up some extra skills and try it out.
I think s7 ege microphone can be good at quality?
Thank you for the review! I've been interested in both of the mics as of recent. Would you know where we can buy the Podmic for those based in Asia/Southeast Asia? Thank you!
I’m based in Singapore and don’t think it’s worth to ship a product of this price from here hmm
thank you for this!
Np. Do check out other mic reviews if you are interested
can direct coonect the mic to mixer??.. the mixer have phantem power
Depends on your mixer. Mine has phantom power and can also off when needed

You didn't test with Bass roll-off and SPL pad!
Sr can you make a video on how to set it up so it cannot pick any background noice
You mean how to setup my audio recording setup?
@@ZPProductions yes sr that's what i meant
I think.. boya sounds better than rode.. boya sound's politely ❤️🎵🎶
can u show me how to plug this mic? i have it but dont know how to connect?
It uses a xlr port. You need a xlr cable to plug into the 3 pin behind
You need an Audio interface with phantom and XLR Plug in
Did you use a cloudlifter for the Podmic? Because cloudlifters are expensive.
Nope. My mic preamp. A sound device mixpre3 is clean enough

what audio interface are you using for boya by-m1000?
im using a mixpre 3 II

Yes BOYA sounds better bought it actually
What do you think about it now that you used it
@@moe4273 *crickets chirping*
Does it need a Amp or external sound card
synth -_- yes both needs an external interface that acts as a amp and external sound card
rode has 65 gain while the boya has only 47?
Rode requires that amount of gain to sound about the same as boya. The boya runs on phantom power
@@ZPProductions ohhh I see, thanks for the explanation I though the only capability of Boya is 47 gain. I don't have knowledge on that technology.
Rode is dynamic...Boya is condenser
the Boya is much better

Rode sounds much better
rode is better no doubt.
Podmic 👍 m1000 👎..😄
