@@timothybrunner4069 they usually always use the same points and stay within a 2-3 point swing range depending on the year. It’s considered to be a violation of contracts if they were to swing it too wide and/or permanently raise the daily points. The way Disney makes money is by raising the price per point instead of the amount of points needed to be used. Did that help?
The offer to extend OKW contracts was for a limited time, many years ago. You can find some extended contracts available via resale, or you can buy an OKW contract directly from Disney. All of the OKW direct contracts from Disney are automatically extended. Also the direct pricing for the different resorts vary by resort. A direct guide can provide the specifics.
Interesting. There were at least three resale sites that said Disney currently allowed non-extended contracts to do so at $25/point, citing that the initial offer in 2006 was $15/point. So there’s conflicting reports out there. I defer to your usually well informed DVC expertise, however, as I only gave it a cursory search and assumed since I saw it in three different places that it was true. Thanks for your insight! 😃
@@CarouselofDouglas hi me again! My parents have a DVC membership with Vero that they may sell to us. I know their maintenance fees are higher but the upfront cost will be significantly lower than OKW or Saratoga. I think that contract expires around the same as OKW. What are your thoughts? 160 points.
@@bhcarn2411 vero beach’s maintenance fees are high enough that the price per point per year is actually rather high, to calculate what I mean: Selling price / (160 x years of contract remaining) = base cost per point Maintenance fees / 160 = price per point for maintenance Add those two together. For example here’s a hypothetical $20,000 / (200 pts x 34 yrs) = $2.94/pt $1500 / 200 = $7.50 / pt / year maintenance $10.44 / pt So a week long stay at Saratoga Springs is 86 pts $897.84 for that stay… ALSO… your parents can’t just sell it to you. Disney gets Right Of First Refusal even in family sales, so if they don’t like the price they offer you, they just buy it, and now NO ONE owns DVC in your family. So there’s some food for thought!
I’m so glad to be able to help! I also recommend checking out our UA-cam friends over at The Magic in the Music, they have really great data-based DVC information!
Do you have any questions about DVC on resale? Are you a resale buyer and want to share your story? Leave a comment!
Can you please clarify if Disney raises the amount of pts needed every year to stay?

We love our DVC...We purchased resale and it's more than paid for itself
We are recent owners, but the cost benefits far exceeded our expectations! Thanks for watching!!

Super interesting, thank you for sharing all those tips!
Thanks for watching. I’m glad it was able to help you!!
This was the best financial decision we ever made! We saved SO much $$$!!
We also got really lucky on our negotiation! I’m so glad we bought on resale!
I never assumed there were places outside of the Walt Disney World grounds where you could stay-that peaks my interest long term.
Yeah, my last US State that I need to check off my list is Hawaii… this makes that stay feasible!! Thanks for watching!!
Very Interesting, I wasn't aware of this whole system.
It’s not as complicated as it looks on paper, but it certainly is one of those “when you know, you know” offerings as well. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Very thorough and informative!
Thank you! Are you looking to buy DVC on resale?
@@CarouselofDouglas That’s the hope. Just starting my research.
