I got a vb and it was kinda miss it was cool at first but I prefer the x or the og 20 it just has way more depth. It was cool I love the sprites and idea but it felt soulless.

You are not wrong. Digimon > tamagotchi. For starters you get all the same features as a tamagotchi with the added connectivity of battles and jogress. Also, tamagotchi are usually the same and revolve around a chicken, Digimon on the other hand varies greatly from monster to monster.

I remember back in 97 everyone was running around the virtual pets in school as the new craze but all I saw was a virtual KFC that you couldn’t eat. Then came Digimon and I was like, ok these are dinosaurs and you can battle with them? I am sold.

Only just started this video but even before I watch it, I can say that as a kid, I had both. I had the original Tamagotchi & then the next released one (whatever they call that these days😂) & then when Digimon came out, I got one of them too…. & I can say, even though I NEVER watched the Digimon show growing up or had any interest in Digimon cards (yes, there actually was Digimon cards but they never really took off😂), I can say I clearly remember MUCH preferring my Digimon to my Tamagotchi’s, even though I wasn’t a Digimon fan…. My younger Brother was the exact same. He was a fan of the Digimon show though TBH but I honestly think that had little to no bearing… In fact, I remember most kids at my school once they got Digimons, not really using their Tamagotchis anymore. Some kids had like 8-10 Digimons on a keychain & 1-2 dead Tamagotchis they couldn’t be bothered to rehatch 😂😂 So back in the day when they all originally came out, I think most kids leaned towards the Digimon once they tried it 😂🫶😌🪺🦖🐣
I think the problem with the Digimon one are two, first, they really are good, but they are really hard to find, and expensive, and when you're a kid, you have a limited budget, and the second one, and the most important, is the marketing, they really have not a lot of publicity, while the tamagotchi got a lot of marketing, even in my country, who is small, I love Digimon, but they really need to get better at marketing an localitation.
(I know this is late but) it would’ve been really nice to see a definitive version of the OG Tamas like how they did for Digimon’s 20th anniversary. Quieter beeping, all the Gen 1 and 2 Tamas, better buttons, the extra casing styles.. no wonder it just sorta feels lame compared to Digimon.

The videos in youtube seems so confusing for me because people take for granted a lot of things and seems to speak to an audience that already understand about them. I grew up with tamagotchi which is the reason why I've never gave them a chance. I've had a couple other virtual pets but never enjoyed them like a tamagotchi. Especially since they are "odd pets" Ive been wanting to get my bf into vpets and the fighting aspect sounds perfect :) you've really sold me on giving them a try
It's really different here in Malaysia. I think Digimon is more famous here than Tamagotchi because of the community. My first vpet is also the 97 version I get from my uncle as a gift. It's really exciting that the Digimon community is getting bigger every year.
As a (mostly digimon) Vpet enthusiast, this video was amazing. I favor the Digimon side a lot more but I still have huge respect for the Tama IP overall. I'm wondering if you have a vital bracelet nowadays? Also I'm seriously jealous of the new Tamagotchi like the Pix and On, with all the things you can do on the devices and their higher resolution & bigger screen.
I jave the vital bracelet wolf howl blue edition. The amazon page also said it would come with pulse city but it did not. I ordered for 100 Canadian (after tax and shipping) but they were hard to find at the time in canada. This christmas i asked santa for more digimon dim cards. It is fun and it helped me lose weight in the summer. I lost 50 pounds but i was also going to the gym
I have always been drawn more to Digimon personally as well (The Vpets not the anime though). Found there to be alot more guides on them then the tamagotchi also since i like to plan ahead what form i want to get.
Yes, I've noticed that too! People in the Digimon community have been more dedicated to gathering all of stats for the different characters which is so nice. Dang I wish I had mentioned this in my video lol

Bought a Digimon 20th yesterday, it should arrive tomorrow. I originally wanted a Tamagotchi because of nostalgia, but then I saw the Digimon and it just feels like there's more to it. I'm very excited to try one of these things as an adult, if I really like the Digimon I might consider getting a Tamagotchi just so I can really compare. This is a great video and I'm glad I made the right choice!
I just want a Tamagotchi connection relaunch. Also used to watch Digimon but never had one, seen they've remade them and found a glow in the dark one and I'm a sucker for anything glowy, may have to try :3
I have one where Bandai has given more to Tamagotchi than Digimon! Good quality colour-ed screen v-pet!! Tamagotchi has a great selection of coloured pixel v-pets, but Digimon has only gotten the Vital Bracelet and recently the announced Digimon ver. COLOR. But both are sadly inferior when compared to Tamagotchi counterparts... The interactions on the Digimon Vital Bracelet is so limited, if you compare it to the counterpart Tamagotchi Smart, which can do so much more with the pet and more sprite and animations like feeding and bathing. Honestly the Digimon Vital Bracelet is more like a fitness band than a V-pet, which it did market accurately to be fair. But for fans of Digimon being a v-pet, it does feel like something is missing. The Digimon Ver. COLOR is a colour-ed screen v-pet that many of us have been waiting for, but the pixels are in the traditional resolution... Bandai already has great Color resolution screen tech for Tamagotchi... so why the old resolution type for Digimon...? This part really astounds me still. Nonetheless, I still pre-ordered one Ver.1 and one Ver. 2... Cos a fan is still a fan...
I was looking for information regarding the original (digimon) V-Pets and stumbled upon this video. It was really nice and informative since I was never really into tamagotchi.
When you started saying you wanted it to be the best my mind aut0matically started playing Pokemon's original English dub theme song lol. Digimon is definitely more well-known as a TV show than it is a V-pet in the US, but I don't remember Digimon v-pet's ever being marketed on television and you would think they would after the first show was successful.
I just got a V20 Black Digivice, all I gotta say is that toddler me who grew up watching the anime wouldn't have been able to understand this much. Even now I didn't know much, about using this. But as someone who just recently played a Digimon game (CyberSleuth complete edition on the Switch) I can't say I'm ashamed to get into these around this time. Either ways I'm still enjoying my digivice regardless. Excellent video btw, I didn't know that both had that much differences aside from the obvious target demographics. Okay, so you've compared the V-Pets. Do you plan on comparing their animes next (In case you didn't get the memo, vanilla Tamagotchi had an anime that aired from 2009-2015)? And as someone who's more familiar with Tamagotchi, I agree with you. Although Tamagotchi is more marketable and can easily be seen as a mascot IP for Bandai, Digimon is clearly more preferred among the community.
Yeah I remember the tamagotchi anime! It was cute but I was not a big fan or anything. Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with either series to make a comparison video, but that is a good idea! Hopefully someone will do it someday

You know what I think would be so cool. I just ordered a Keitai akai and I wish there would be a digimon tamagotchi - like a tamagotchi shell and care and like the features of an keitai. Or a tamagotchi digimon where it would be a brick or something like that but you raise the tamagotchi characters to fight with the digimon.
The problem is when you arent american XDD In my country for example is only safe to order things around europe cause you risky them getting stuck if they are ordered from outside.
Yesterday one of my younger co-workers thought my Digimon v-pets were "Demon Slayer Tamagotchis". *sigh* Maybe that would be cool, though? :p Totally agree that Digimon do such much more than regular Tamagotchis, and it helps that because of growing up with the show I know who the mons actually are. :)
Honestly as someone who collects both, I would **love** a Tamagotchi x Digimon crossover where you can raise both a tama or a digimon, being able to have some sort of combat system (digimons have their evolutions, tamas could pick a class or something like dnd) while also having life sim elements (having likes and dislikes, befriending other ppl, personality traits, etc). I do think what makes Tamagotchi and Digimon very different is that Digimon are a bit more gimmicky and more involved with its combat and evolution system, while Tamagotchi is a bit more casual and easier to raise. It's very dependent on what you want and if you want something a bit more involved.
Digimon will always be my number one. But tamagotchi have grown on me. That's probs because there are alot more people talking digital pets online and more communitys to talk digital pets. Got going to lie. I never do this but I just got 3-4 new tamagotchi coming in the mail. Most because people like you and others in the community make them look so fun.

I just got one after watching this i had never heard of them before that. Yes i like it alot. Considering it only has half the technology of my tamagotchi Pix that says something about their untapped potential in the market.
I had both back in 1997. Digimon was great for break times at school fighting each other but tamagotchi has the place in my heart, even now as a full grown 37 year old man I’ve started collecting all the old p1/p2 non of the newer ones interest me. The simplicity of the old ones is where the magic is.
I grew up with Tamagotchi but getting back into V-Pets this year, I'm much happier with the latest Digimon releases than the Tamas! Its really a shame that the vintage tamagotchi re-releases sell magnitudes more than the Digimon X, when the latter just has so much more love and care put into it and is just more fun overall. I'll just keep dreaming of a Tamagotchi Connection Anniversary Edition that collects all the bits and baubles from that series, maybe someday it'll happen 😭
My friend and I would battle our Digimon back in elementary school. I would always win because mine would always evolve into Greymon and his would evolve into some blob thing.
The reason the 20th didn’t include a Ver 6 egg, is because that egg was technically never part of the Digimon vpet line. The Digimon Vpet line ended with V5. Version 6 (aka: Nature Spirit) was the start of the PENDULUM line. Yes, Australia released it as a regular Vpet Digimon, but that was an anomaly. The V6 egg belongs to the pendulum line (it’s in the Nature Spirit Pendulum). The pendulum part is deceiving. Unlike Digivice, pendulums are NOT pedometers and don’t have the ability to count your steps. They’re really just normal Vpets like the originals. The only thing that shaking feature does is replace the button mashing preparation for battle. Other than that, pendulums are exactly like regular Vpet Digimon, only WAY more fun because of the extra battle feature (colosseum) and the ability to Jogress.
With the modern tamagotchis i think we should give them a chance because they have colored ones now and a touch screen which division doesn't have.guys it's just my opinion..

I got sucked into this underground w0rld of digimon vpet junkies. Im a junkie now. Cant help it theyre so fun and loved digimon since the original vpets and show. I never knew they kept them going for so long
Tamagotchi have better designs (I prefer the egg shell and no sharp edges); I think the shells of the Digimon are hideous and bulkier. My understanding is that they were marketed towards boys. I don’t want my virtual pet battling, personally. It’s not how I play, but can see how this would be more interactive for others.
If we're going of fact Digimon created a franchise tamigatchi didn't that means it was more popular meaning its undeniably better clearly they did something to make it so popular however I feel if your looking for a faveruite it's personal preference and nostalgia so it depends on the person
I hope some Chinese will make their own digimon version except with modernized digivice with camera hd screen etc since bandai is still living in the 90th lol
I don't have any friends who like vpets. I don't know anyone that has one... So I can't battle anyone. Maybe that's why I enjoy tamagotchi more. The newer tamagotchis doesn't seem like fun, except the black and white ones.
As much i love digi vpets. I am not 100% sure if every tamagochi is inferior, i mean if you get a first gen 1 vpet, unless you get 2 you wont be making most of it in comparison to tamagochi. Also the newer tamagochi on has a lot of stuff to do! They indeed are in color but i still prefer the charm of the good old pixels ahahah I mean people been wanting bigger screened digi vpets but i dunno i like them the way they are. Although i also dont own an X i thing that one specifically was a great game changer for the vpets. I do hope Z isnt just a simple re ash or it would be kinda disappointing . I think the only thing vpets need is content to do, more then anything else, but that is just me. And like Tamagochi on has all these areas to visit and such which gives it a whole lot more variety.
I wouldn't say that tamagotchi is an inferior vpet series, they definitely both have strengths and weaknesses! I just wanted to point out things that I really enjoy about Digimon.
Understandable so far i have been enjoying my first v pet which i got recently, cause some years prior i didnt new v pets where a thing only digivices XDDD And i believe in my country we only got the very first gen 1 and nothing more and even those were rare. So been very happy with my 20th and its been a far more better experience then the tamagochi i owned. Then again it is an old one ahaha I just do believe Tamagochi On are quite superior to most vpets and only comparable to the X series. I just dont own any so i cannot say for sure Plus even the batteries are different XD PS: Watching your video before Kakujos new video release was funny XD

Digimon is more fun It has more options and you get way more characters Also my digimon is way quieter than my tamagotchi which I find to be a win because my sister is always yelling at me to turn the volume off on my tama

logically your points are valid, and it seems people usually go down this digimon hole a few years after first discovering but i just cannot get into them! and they’re sprites are so clunky to me and not that cute, but i will keep trying to get the bug 🤣 also love the variation of gameplay in tamas, especially in the later connection models rather than just battling for all devices.
I totally get the variation of gameplay thing, but I think tamas can get a bit repetitive after a while too (although, if I had to choose between Digimon and an uratama I would have a REALLY hard time deciding lol). Idk why but I actually think Digimon sprites are cuter than tamas 😂 I think it's hilarious how they make these big scary monsters into little sprites you take care of.
My parents said no I can't get a pet so I got a Digimon I have an omegamon alter s it's so powerful I'm like the coolest kid in School no one can beat me and I still am I've been holding this record for 2 or 3 years

I think each does what they do very well. Digimon is the better over all toy/game. Tamagtotchi is the better overall appeal/aesthetic. That's just my opinion. I've been enjoying my Ver. 20s and Xs lately, but for overall design, Tamagotchi can't be beat. Also, Tamagotchi had LCD games and Gameboy games that included the design I love, with a little bit more gaming element to it. I haven't found that additional element outside of Digimon proper, but that could just be me not looking.. Overall, being a fan of both is a win/win for me.
Funny that you mentioned that, I've actually been playing a game on stream that is very similar to the tamagotchi Gameboy games! It's called the digital monster version wonderswan

It's simple. Even if the current digivices have no color (at the time I'm writing this, the digimon color hadn't been released yet) Digimon has more exciting gameplay, more lore, an entire anime franchise, a card game that has not fallen into obscurity, many video games with original stories, a couple of SUB SERIES' and even a couple of rip-offs in the mobile stores trying to replicate the digivice's gameplay (horribly). Does Tomodachi have that?

Digimon is definitely more well-known as a TV show than it is a V-pet in the US, but I don't remember Digimon v-pet's ever being marketed on television and you would think they would after the first show was successful.
I just got a V20 Black Digivice, all I gotta say is that toddler me who grew up watching the anime wouldn't have been able to understand this much. Even now I didn't know much, about using this. But as someone who just recently played a Digimon game (CyberSleuth complete edition on the Switch) I can't say I'm ashamed to get into these around this time. Either ways I'm still enjoying my digivice regardless.

And as someone who's more familiar with Tamagotchi, I agree with you. Although Tamagotchi is more marketable and can easily be seen as a mascot IP for Bandai, Digimon is clearly more preferred among the community.

Honestly I kind of got pokemon vibes when I first played a Digimon vpet! Only because of the battling aspect though. Other than that, they are quite different!

You know what I think would be so cool. I just ordered a Keitai akai and I wish there would be a digimon tamagotchi - like a tamagotchi shell and care and like the features of an keitai. Honestly as someone who collects both, I would **love** a Tamagotchi x Digimon crossover where you can raise both a tama or a digimon, being able to have some sort of combat system (digimons have their evolutions, tamas could pick a class or something like dnd) while also having life sim elements (having likes and dislikes, befriending other ppl, personality traits, etc). I do think what makes Tamagotchi and Digimon very different is that Digimon are a bit more gimmicky and more involved with its combat and evolution system, while Tamagotchi is a bit more casual and easier to raise. It's very dependent on what you want and if you want something a bit more involved.

Digimon will always be my number one. But tamagotchi have grown on me. That's probs because there are alot more people talking digital pets online and more communitys to talk digital pets. Got going to lie. I never do this but I just got 3-4 new tamagotchi coming in the mail. Most because people like you and others in the community make them look so fun.

I had both back in 1997. Digimon was great for break times at school fighting each other but tamagotchi has the place in my heart, even now as a full grown 37 year old man I’ve started collecting all the old p1/p2 non of the newer ones interest me. The simplicity of the old ones is where the magic is.

I grew up with Tamagotchi but getting back into V-Pets this year, I'm much happier with the latest Digimon releases than the Tamas! Its really a shame that the vintage tamagotchi re-releases sell magnitudes more than the Digimon X, when the latter just has so much more love and care put into it and is just more fun overall.
I'll just keep dreaming of a Tamagotchi Connection Anniversary Edition that collects all the bits and baubles from that series, maybe someday it'll happen 😭
The tamagotchi connection turns 20 next year! It's insane haha but I'm sure Japan will at the very least be re-releasing the v1 ❤️
My friend and I would battle our Digimon back in elementary school. I would always win because mine would always evolve into Greymon and his would evolve into some blob thing.

I'm genuinely surprised there hasn't been a wave 4 of the ENG devices announced with an updated Wave 6 egg.
The reason the 20th didn’t include a Ver 6 egg, is because that egg was technically never part of the Digimon vpet line. The Digimon Vpet line ended with V5. Version 6 (aka: Nature Spirit) was the start of the PENDULUM line. Yes, Australia released it as a regular Vpet Digimon, but that was an anomaly. The V6 egg belongs to the pendulum line (it’s in the Nature Spirit Pendulum).
The pendulum part is deceiving. Unlike Digivice, pendulums are NOT pedometers and don’t have the ability to count your steps. They’re really just normal Vpets like the originals.
The only thing that shaking feature does is replace the button mashing preparation for battle. Other than that, pendulums are exactly like regular Vpet Digimon, only WAY more fun because of the extra battle feature (colosseum) and the ability to Jogress.
With the modern tamagotchis i think we should give them a chance because they have colored ones now and a touch screen which division doesn't have.guys it's just my opinion..

Tamagotchi have better designs (I prefer the egg shell and no sharp edges); I think the shells of the Digimon are hideous and bulkier. My understanding is that they were marketed towards boys. I don’t want my virtual pet battling, personally. It’s not how I play, but can see how this would be more interactive for others.

I don't have any friends who like vpets. I don't know anyone that has one... So I can't battle anyone. Maybe that's why I enjoy tamagotchi more.
The newer tamagotchis doesn't seem like fun, except the black and white ones.
As much i love digi vpets. I am not 100% sure if every tamagochi is inferior, i mean if you get a first gen 1 vpet, unless you get 2 you wont be making most of it in comparison to tamagochi.
Also the newer tamagochi on has a lot of stuff to do! They indeed are in color but i still prefer the charm of the good old pixels ahahah
I mean people been wanting bigger screened digi vpets but i dunno i like them the way they are.
Although i also dont own an X i thing that one specifically was a great game changer for the vpets.
I do hope Z isnt just a simple re ash or it would be kinda disappointing . I think the only thing vpets need is content to do, more then anything else, but that is just me.
And like Tamagochi on has all these areas to visit and such which gives it a whole lot more variety.
I wouldn't say that tamagotchi is an inferior vpet series, they definitely both have strengths and weaknesses! I just wanted to point out things that I really enjoy about Digimon.
Understandable so far i have been enjoying my first v pet which i got recently, cause some years prior i didnt new v pets where a thing only digivices XDDD
And i believe in my country we only got the very first gen 1 and nothing more and even those were rare. So been very happy with my 20th and its been a far more better experience then the tamagochi i owned.

logically your points are valid, and it seems people usually go down this digimon hole a few years after first discovering but i just cannot get into them! and they’re sprites are so clunky to me and not that cute, but i will keep trying to get the bug 🤣 also love the variation of gameplay in tamas, especially in the later connection models rather than just battling for all devices.
I totally get the variation of gameplay thing, but I think tamas can get a bit repetitive after a while too (although, if I had to choose between Digimon and an uratama I would have a REALLY hard time deciding lol). Idk why but I actually think Digimon sprites are cuter than tamas 😂 I think it's hilarious how they make these big scary monsters into little sprites you take care of.

Music star had a bunch of new stuff for tamagotchi but yah digimon is a boys toy so its a bit more complex which kinda sucks cuz tamagotchi is fun
I think each does what they do very well. Digimon is the better over all toy/game. Tamagtotchi is the better overall appeal/aesthetic. That's just my opinion. I've been enjoying my Ver. 20s and Xs lately, but for overall design, Tamagotchi can't be beat. Also, Tamagotchi had LCD games and Gameboy games that included the design I love, with a little bit more gaming element to it. I haven't found that additional element outside of Digimon proper, but that could just be me not looking.. Overall, being a fan of both is a win/win for me.
Funny that you mentioned that, I've actually been playing a game on stream that is very similar to the tamagotchi Gameboy games! It's called the digital monster version wonderswan

It's simple. Even if the current digivices have no color (at the time I'm writing this, the digimon color hadn't been released yet) Digimon has more exciting gameplay, more lore, an entire anime franchise, a card game that has not fallen into obscurity, many video games with original stories, a couple of SUB SERIES' and even a couple of rip-offs in the mobile stores trying to replicate the digivice's gameplay (horribly). Does Tomodachi have that?
