Nice. I pack a mixture of almonds, macadamia nuts, and Brazil nuts (from most to least in terms of number of pieces) into small Tupperware cups. When I need a snack when I'm on the go, I'll have a protein bar, a banana, deez nuts, and water.
As a dietitian, I do not envy the task of trying to assign hierarchical rankings for intact foods. They're almost all qualitatively different, and I'd probably...ahem... _go nuts..._ putting such a video together. My rule of eating nuts is - if they're fresh and on sale, they're my favorite! 😆
I gotta say the ranking is easily the hardest part. Trying to quantify qualities that were probably never meant to be quantified. And while for the most part I feel pretty confident in where I rank things, I don't think I've ever been shy in saying that it could be very different from person to person depending on their goals and how they're individual body reacts to what they put in they're mouth. I think the best thing these videos have done is given general knowledge and opened people up to the idea that there's a lot of ways to skin the cat and that if they're able they should be learning about what works best for them. And if thats all I accomplish, I am more than happy with that.
I've been recently snacking on walnuts lately not knowing if they were actually good or not so it nice to know that it's on the star tier! In fact, the two nuts I've been snacking on have been almonds and walnuts so I'm very glad to see them on the star tier and that I made the right choices haha. ☺
I have been watching these videos because I'll be moving to a piece of property I bought, just. Over an acre and we want to grow some of our own food. We have a river on two sides and enough sun to produce. So we will start small and make a list of what we can manage. I used to think preppers and home garden food growers were a little exagerrated. I learned that they were right the whole time. The type of nutrition u can get is crazy. And way cheaper
I love cashews! Glad to see them in A-Tier. They have a naturally buttery kind of taste. I especially like them roasted without salt. Sometimes it can be hard to find unsalted at the stores, so when I do find them, I usually buy them.
My favorite nut are pistacios. I love to eat them with salt, but im gonna try to eat more waltnuts since they seemengly have such an insane quantity of omega 3. Awesome video, i love your content
William Falloon runs a vitamin company and has stressed walnut consumption to the point of saying 'you might want to make an entire meal of them". Blew my mind!
Pumpkin, flax and chia seeds will make it in another video right? Best nut is cashews, that delicious creaminess and sweetness can't be beaten. Also great for making vegan cheeses!

A mushrooms tier list would be super interesting. In most western cuisine you only see white button or portabella, but there are a TON of edible mushrooms out there mostly known for their use in Asian cuisine for their umami flavor like shiitake.
in my opinion, comparing acorns to other nuts isn't quite fair to them. indigenous people (and eventually white settlers too) used them as another source of carbs in their diet, and often made bread with them ("poor man's bread", in old cookbooks). it would be fairer in that light to compare them to grains, in terms of how they're actually eaten by people and their functionality in the diet. that said this is an incredible list and you put a ton of work into it, thank you so so much!!! take this comment with a grain of salt because you make it clear in your video that nuts is a weird category to begin with, and you go into a lot of great info abt acorns before your ranking!! just wanna tell people that don't know- acorns can and have been a part of a healthy diet for a long time, it just functions more like a carb than a snacking nut!
I eat a lot of peanuts daily (around 70g). I just love them and, as a person that has a very hard time gaining weight, rely on them for a nice boost to my daily calories. I try to eat as healthy as I can in the rest of my diet. My question is, how much should I worry about their antinutrient content?? I also eat a good amount of walnuts daily (around 50g) Love your content!!! You singlehandedly improved my diet in several orders of magnitude

The amount of selenium in the Brazil nuts varies significantly and depends on the country of origin. If they were grown in Bolivia the median amount of selenium is not even close to the figure given by USDA; the difference is more than an order of magnitude.
Interesting, I'm Bolivian and I haven't been idea of that until now. Probably it varies in the region too, internally speaking. Probably nuts from north of La Paz are different of those from Pando.

This is the 1st time I’ve come across your channel & have become a subscriber. In addition to the ranking of nuts & their nutritional value, I was wondering if you might also include the benefits of eating sprouted nuts ( as well as grains).
It was watching this videos that I learned that buying a can of nuts and eating them all in one night was what was making me gain weight. I never paid attention to the 14 servings per container in the nutrition numbers.
Walnuts have another downside- they’re a very commonly known migraine trigger. Roasting can help but I still think it should be noted. This was an awesome list and I love your series!
Excellent review. Have you noticed the price of almonds going up and not just from the current insane inflation? Almond production is water intensive and most almonds are grown in drought parched California where growers are cutting back their orchards due to water restrictions.
Macadamia nuts are the only top tier. Low to no carb and low polyunsaturated fat. Even though ratio omega 3 to 6 is not the best, you would need to eat over 200g to have a little inflammation while almonds in less than 50g provokes lot higher inflamation.
Love the videos. I grew up on video games, so stat sheets and tier lists make learning incredibly more easy and interesting for me. Thank you. You have a standard of caloric intake per topic, would it be hard to give an average price per gram or ounce? It’d be really helpful, but I also understand the extra research and variable price points.
For Walnuts it's important to note that the omega-3 fats in them are short-chain (ALA) and not the same as the ones you find in fish, which are long-chain (EPA & DHA). ALA are turned into EPA and DHA in our bodies but because western diets are full of omega-6 fats, this process doesn't work out for everyone. You'll find that walnuts don't always increase EPA and DHA in our blood levels. So to get the same benefits as with fish you have to make sure to keep track of your omega-6 intake. With that being said, hazelnuts are goated.
What's your opinion on omega 6 fats ? I have read contradictory information on the internet. Some sources say that they are bad but some say they are actually somewhat good. Some say to maintain a good omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, and some say this ratio thing isn't well researched.
@@futurebreedmachine9302 To be honest i have no idea. I only looked into how omega-3 fats from walnuts are absorbed by the body. I can't imagine that omega-6 fats are generally bad though. Many foods that are considered healthy contain them.
Every morning I've been having nut butter on my lightly toasted cin/raisin english muffins for several years now; specifically almond and cashew butter. Lightly sprinkled with flax seed and cinnamon, and with my 1 cup of coffee. I used to do walnuts, pecans and pumpkin seeds and unshelled sunflower seeds, and am back with all except sunflower currently. I love pistachios too but they're a bit high priced so have currently done without. Also do peanut butter for the occasional snack...in those smuckers uncrustables.
Thank You🥥🌰🥜 having nuts&seeds in water for suitable time(vary) helps to get rid of some problematic ingredients that most seed things have to not to be eaten. After all, they want to grow up as plants🌱🌴🌳🌲🌿🌾🍀
I used to only see unsalted nuts at a dedicated health food store. I’m glad I’m seeing it more often❤ it’s crazy to salt them… like adding flavoring to your WATER. Just drink the water by itself, your body will thank you.

Deez nuts are my favorite
@@Talon_Fitness Hey....it's a list alright;) Nicely assembled, btw:)
U must be a great “dietitian”
I've been recently snacking on walnuts lately not knowing if they were actually good or not so it nice to know that it's on the star tier!
In fact, the two nuts I've been snacking on have been almonds and walnuts so I'm very glad to see them on the star tier and that I made the right choices haha. ☺
I'm loving your lists!
You should do most nutritious oils next. Canola, vegetable, peanut, olive, flaxseed, etc.
yes that would be important, canola is so bad for you and yet the corrupt AHA says it's "heart healthy"
Vegetable oils shouldn’t even be near the list. Zero nutrition. The opposite in fact. Avoid vegetable/seed oils at all cost.
@@thatstheguy07 exactly
@@thatstheguy07 How about sesame seed organic oil?
Canola oil is bad for you.
For those worries about anti nutrients, try soaking them overnight and then rinsing before consuming
Thank you, cause I was quite worried that most nuts are just not worth it.
@@Howitgoes799 Anti-nutrients aren't a problem on a balanced diet. For example, phytic acid (which blocks iron resorption) is overcome by Vitamin C.
Wouldn’t the other nutrients just leech off to the water as well?
Me I don't like wet nuts don't know the value 😊
That isn't enough, you've got to soak/germinate them with something acidic like ACV.
I appreciate this channel very much
I love cashews! Glad to see them in A-Tier. They have a naturally buttery kind of taste. I especially like them roasted without salt. Sometimes it can be hard to find unsalted at the stores, so when I do find them, I usually buy them.
Cashews are the best.
If you have a Costco membership, they have a pretty good deal on unsalted cashews
Only problem with walnut Ala omega 3 is it needs to be converted to epa and dha, men have 5% conversation. Women have 10%.
Pumpkin, flax and chia seeds will make it in another video right? Best nut is cashews, that delicious creaminess and sweetness can't be beaten. Also great for making vegan cheeses!
yeah! i’d really like to try making cheese out of them
Definitely not the best for you.
Cashew cheese (we made a brie-like cheese) is the first one that actually tastes like cheese.
@@Flippokid Oh I've had cashew Camembert before, great stuff. In general fermented homemade cheeses if done right, give you the same experience of a cow's milk cheese.
@@thatstheguy07 Oh I know, I refrain from buying much of it since it is not the most nutritional. But if I want a candy I'll buy some roasted cashews :p
Such an engaging video! I’ve learned a lot and will surely remember it-thank you for this amazing content!
This is a top tier youtube channel
All the nuts I've tried I love but I have to say pistachios are my favorite. They're literally addicting like chips to me I swear I could eat them for hours
Debest
I think because they usually are salted. Hard to find them without it. Soak them for a few minutes and rinse off the salt
@@AdvExplorer not much salt in them though, if your sodium intake isn't above normal or low anyways its probably not going to be harmful
That's from the salted pistachios I seen anyways
@@AdvExplorer even non salted I could eat a lot of. Just as good
@@AdvExplorer Get the extra salt out of your diet by avoiding processed and restaurant food that is also full of bad oil and sugar. Enjoy your salted pistachios.
As a red headed stepchild myself I’m flattered to be lumped in with nuts. I freakin love them
Love this chart! Please do Fungi next!
good idea (:
A mushrooms tier list would be super interesting.
In most western cuisine you only see white button or portabella, but there are a TON of edible mushrooms out there mostly known for their use in Asian cuisine for their umami flavor like shiitake.
My list on top Nuts
1) Almonds
2) Hazel Nuts
3) Brazil Nuts
4) Pistachios
5) Pine Nuts
6) Peanuts
7) Walnuts
8) Cashews
9) Pecans
10) Pili Nuts
What about macadamias
*Does Roasting the NUTS, KiLL OFF the Phytic Acid & OxyLates???*
in my opinion, comparing acorns to other nuts isn't quite fair to them. indigenous people (and eventually white settlers too) used them as another source of carbs in their diet, and often made bread with them ("poor man's bread", in old cookbooks). it would be fairer in that light to compare them to grains, in terms of how they're actually eaten by people and their functionality in the diet.
that said this is an incredible list and you put a ton of work into it, thank you so so much!!! take this comment with a grain of salt because you make it clear in your video that nuts is a weird category to begin with, and you go into a lot of great info abt acorns before your ranking!! just wanna tell people that don't know- acorns can and have been a part of a healthy diet for a long time, it just functions more like a carb than a snacking nut!
I agree. though I've been looking for a tier list on these nuts.
oh no
I would say a herbs tier list would be awesome.
I eat a lot of peanuts daily (around 70g). I just love them and, as a person that has a very hard time gaining weight, rely on them for a nice boost to my daily calories. I try to eat as healthy as I can in the rest of my diet.
My question is, how much should I worry about their antinutrient content??
I also eat a good amount of walnuts daily (around 50g)
Love your content!!! You singlehandedly improved my diet in several orders of magnitude
Every day?? Why is that? You have a lot of other healty foods to gain weight like avocado, olive oil, legumes, sweet potatos, quinoa even rice XD
I do 100g macadamia nutbutter a day for 4 years now! Stay as skinny as a prisoner of war.
I don't think 70 is that bad. My wife eats so many oxalate foods etc, yet she is super healthy with endless energy.
@@contrarian717 I'm just saying that eating the exact same food every day is not very healthy, but is peanuts so is not that bad... I guess I'm exaggerating xd
@@Juan_Laurino enjoy! A good habit, trust me, I read a LOT
@@Juan_Laurino I like them, they're easy to eat, they don't need preparation, they are cheaper... There's a ton of reasons why I choose them. They're simply my perfect snack, and they add a lot of calories to my diet
I love these food tier lists. Very informative content.
Very useful, thanks. Acorns - I won't go through cracking shells + days of leaching just for free floury nuts. tried with a handful out of interest, confirmed not worth doing in normal times but useful to know how to do.
These lists are awesome - thank you!!! Just subbed!
I think many of anti-nutrients in nuts are in the skins. Getting blanched versions should help reduce any issues from anti-nutrients.
Maybe different types of carbs next? Breads, rices, tortillas, oats, couscous, stuff like that?
The amount of selenium in the Brazil nuts varies significantly and depends on the country of origin. If they were grown in Bolivia the median amount of selenium is not even close to the figure given by USDA; the difference is more than an order of magnitude.
Bolivian Brazil nuts are low in selenium?
Interesting, I'm Bolivian and I haven't been idea of that until now. Probably it varies in the region too, internally speaking. Probably nuts from north of La Paz are different of those from Pando.
Keep this series going!!!
Damn, this tier list was nuts
For nutritional tier lists you've got different milks, breads, grains, and legumes easily.
You could also make exercise tier lists; upper body, lower body, stretches, cardio.
And animal organs
And seeds
Thanks for including the tree nut allergy information. I feel like I'm always having to explain to people that I'm allergic to hazelnuts and walnuts and that this does include almonds but doesn't include peanuts.
Seeing as they’re ground nuts lol
How did you find out did you just try every nut to see what you were and we’re not allergic to?
He mentioned roasting nuts,
For anyone reading the comments. What is the recommended time time to preserve as much nutrients in the nuts? Myself, I've been going around 300F at about 15 minutes.
Feedback would be appreciated.
I think most people buy their nuts already roasted.
@@garethbaus5471 It's true :)
It's fine though. What I do is grab palm full or two of whatever I like. usually almonds, cashews, hazelnuts and will spray them down with avocado oil, lightly salt them.
Then set the temperature to 300F and cook them for 15 minutes in my toaster oven.
@@garethbaus5471 not really
❤Pistachios are my faves... But I also enjoy Hazel, Macadamia, Almonds and Cashews... I just LOVE almost all nuts...EXCEPT acorns...Thanks for your Tier Vids 🎉
Wow, this was amazing. I had no idea walnuts were such a star. Thank you.
This is the 1st time I’ve come across your channel & have become a subscriber. In addition to the ranking of nuts & their nutritional value, I was wondering if you might also include the benefits of eating sprouted nuts ( as well as grains).
*Watches while downing an entire 6500-calorie box of cashews*
Bro I can't stop eating theemm
Disappointed to not see DEEZNUTS on the S tier
don't know why I'm here, I'm allergic to nuts 💀 these nutrition tier lists are that good
Thank you for such a well-researched video!
I'd be nuts not to consider eating more of these.
A cute nut joke there🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just to iterate...these lists are amazing!
It was watching this videos that I learned that buying a can of nuts and eating them all in one night was what was making me gain weight. I never paid attention to the 14 servings per container in the nutrition numbers.
Stay focused brothers!
Walnuts have another downside- they’re a very commonly known migraine trigger. Roasting can help but I still think it should be noted. This was an awesome list and I love your series!
Your videos are great concise. Keep the good work
Excellent review. Have you noticed the price of almonds going up and not just from the current insane inflation? Almond production is water intensive and most almonds are grown in drought parched California where growers are cutting back their orchards due to water restrictions.
cheaper than walnut
Macadamia nuts are the only top tier. Low to no carb and low polyunsaturated fat. Even though ratio omega 3 to 6 is not the best, you would need to eat over 200g to have a little inflammation while almonds in less than 50g provokes lot higher inflamation.
His tiers make no sense based on what several other experts say...Macadamia nuts are by themselves as far as nutrient goes.
That'd be tough to collect, especially since globally prices will vary, but it would be a nutty addition to the series
I found your content today, I love it
This tier list is nuts!!
15:29 What?
What about mine
Just starting to soak my walnuts to leave overnight. Put it in the refrigerator and wrapped in plastic.
@@DillonDang I keep nuts in a mug with water from overnight(para/ brasilial nuts) to couple of hours (cashew). So delicious
I was hoping you would have mentioned Grape Nuts, and Corn Nuts. I love those!
I used to only see unsalted nuts at a dedicated health food store. I’m glad I’m seeing it more often❤ it’s crazy to salt them… like adding flavoring to your WATER. Just drink the water by itself, your body will thank you.
I always put salt in my water. You're crazy lol
I'd love to see a mushroom version.
All of these are making my mouth itch
Almonds are my favorite, so I was very happy to see them in the top tier :D
