Overall a very good review. I have had SS for one month. Cameras now go up to 1080 resolution. You did not mention their doorbell-camera. Biggest problem I had was not enough upload wifi speed for the cameras, each requires a minimum of 2 (Not the fault of SS, but of my poor ATT service which only offers 5 upload.) Of course this also depends on the location of the router in relation to the cameras, floors, walls, etc. Getting a nest router system solved that problem. If you are wondering about the separate siren, it is very loud which is just fine. Overall, the SS customer/tech service has been very good (always depends on who answers like any other place). SS is testing an outdoor camera. One BIG BIG plus not mentioned is that you have 60 days to return the equipment if you are not satisfied. If you do order with a promotion, order plenty of everything (ordering later may not include the discount (mine was 30%) and you can always return part of your order or the whole thing. No system is perfect. If there were one out there, everyone would be buying it.
I would love the doorbell camera ...WOW ! That would solve so many problems in my life and make me feel more secure .I've been with S.S. for several years now with a single camera basic set up and love it. My concern was with the motion sensors. I don't think mine work (?) . Any sugg ? I would appreciate. The staff have Always been great by phone with me . I'm not a tech @ this so, they've had to be very patient with me. Great video , Audio, Teaching. I've always been sold on Simply Safe.
I just spoke to them and they tell me about another 2-4 weeks for the outdoor cameras to arrive. They are trying to get me to order everything now then they will ship cameras when they come in. Seems like a pretty reliable system, I was just concerned about how loud that siren is going to be and didn't want to opt for the additional Aux siren but maybe you answered that for me. With your bandwidth issue how often do you Wi-Fi cams getting kicked off the network?
Thank you for this suggestion. I recently purchased my system via a promotion and was not aware I have 60 days to return the equipment if not satisfied. I also hadn't thought to buy more items at the promotional price so I may do that while they're still on sale.

As a professional security installer I have to say this is a panacea if nothing else. Where I live local municipalities require a record of installation from a qualified security company or else they will not register your account or respond to alarms.....food for thought.
I think most of us on here want to monitor our own home and have pictures of the people. I would be the one calling police. With so much defunding of police departments and police leaving. Even if I wasn't home I would beat the police to my house or call a neighbor.
Well done! I just finished connecting and testing my system (w/camera) and really like it. I agree with your point regarding the camera being an indoor camera and requiring a protective cover for outdoors...they should have an outdoor camera option. Additionally, the smoke and CO2 detectors are very pricey. The one other downfall is not being able to have multiple app users on the account. 🤷♂️ That said, I am very happy I made the decision to go with SimpliSafe!
Wow, can't believe they can get away with these kinds of limitations in 2020. I'm convinced half these companies survive on name alone, and not on functionality or value. I would go with Eufy, as I have many of their cameras and a doorbell, and can get full app access/control and video storage locally with NO monthly fee.
We just got the starter kit for testing. The siren is so wimpy relative to our old wired system. And we set it to the top volume. The sound volume barely makes any sound in the house (including when in a room adjacent to the room where base station is). Neighbors would never ever know something was going on (like our wired system which could wake the dead) for neighborhood watch... Everybody refers to the SimpliSafe siren as "very loud". It is not. The devices are easy to set up though.
I have own a SimpliSafe Security system for over 10 years. I installed it with no problems, I just followed the instructions in the booklet. I just decided to upgrade now, hoping to have the same results. The monitoring service have been great!
That was my question i know it has cellular backup but can it run solely on cellular with no wifi whatsoever because it says back up as in if the wifi goes out it will run on cellular or am i mistaken and it only runs of cellular?
I have the googles nest cam outdoor. I also have ring door cam, 2 flood lights and the ring home security system. The google is by far the best for video playback as you can view by the sec, and just watch if anything happens outside of the zone. The ring I pay for professional monitoring $100 a year. ( not bad ) but the ring lags and its super slow. Only allowing 30 sec laps time is A BIG fail for a security camera system. I heard google is going away from the security in 2022. Not sure of that correct. After my subscription are up im going to get a professional alarm system. Thats the best way to go. Protect your house and love ones has no price tag.
Hey! What system are you going or did you go for and how much? I’m currently looking for something like simply safe or anything else that works well. I live in the city where crime is high!! Any recommendations
@@Bestes1259 I still have about 7 months left on my ring and google cam. To be honest with you, if crime rate is high where you live. I would look into like comcast or ADT something that can call the police and have professional monitoring. Theirs ups and downs on all security systems. You can have your own high quality system but it wont contacts the police or you can pay a monthly fee and have professional security. Hope this helps a little.
I have nest cams. You are right. They are the best. I have ADT and have had them 13years. I’m done. Wanted $900 to install a smart lock and they don’t even have ones with auto lock. Found out they were charging me $5/mo with previous lock and $10/mo for a camera that only had a live feed at 720p, no recording or notifications at all. I was at $75/mo in monitoring fees. I’m tired of install fees and not knowing what I’m paying for. One call to vivint and a setup the same as o have now is 4k. But I have to act now to lock that in. Lol. So vivint is out. I was between this and frontpoint. I use myQ for garage, ultraloq for locks, and nest for cams. This seems to make sense for just alarms. Would it be nice to have them all on one app? Maybe. But none do each well.
Most Homeowners Insurance policies require active professional monitoring to qualify for a sizable credit which often covers nearly all of the $25 month full SimpliSafe monitoring fee. Might end up costing you $50 bucks total for the year - WELL WORTH THE PEACE OF MIND.
$14.99 option does have SOME app functionality, contrary to what this video says. You can view your "arm/ disarm" history and pretty much see the status of your system. You cannot arm or disarm remotely.
@@devonblaine wait hold on. You don’t pay anything at all and are able to use the app? Does that still mean it works for free with the cameras too? Like you can check the cameras in app for free?

We have the Simply Safe indoor camera and glass break detector. After one week, we had to turn it off and never used it since. We have 3 cats that kept setting off the alarm just walking around and nothing we tried would stop that from happening. We set the camera at the least sensitive setting. We would leave the house and arm the system. We’d be at the gym or wherever and our alarm would go off. We set the camera up at the highest point at the top of our kitchen cabinet which was suggested by the tech help. Same thing would happen. The cats were just walking on the floor, but setting off the alarm. Eventually we gave up and the system was a big waste of money for us.
You're supposed to flip the motion sensors upside down so they don't scan the floor and then set them at shoulder height. This is from Simplisafe....... Not a big waste of money. Just contact them instead of giving up completely....
You're not telling people that with the monthly fee it includes camera warranty for 10yrs. It's covers any malfunction or issues for 10yrs! To me its worth it.
I agree, I believe that was an oversight on his party (due to limited research). I also think that he should have done more research on monitoring service plans, most DIY home security systems have cost structured monitoring service. Another thing to note is that he is not mentioning anything about environmental interference; depending on the area in which you place your base station (and with the expansion of smart devices, kitchen appliances, and other external factors), it doesn’t matter how close the base station is to the sensor (environmental interference can cause the sensors to malfunction or become unresponsive over time). I learned a lot while working for a DIY home security company.
I would say, before you do that, check with your home insurance company because some of them actually give you a rebate over the monthly fee (in my case) for subscribing. So it's cost neutral or(in my case) can save you money to pay the fee. That means you get the app control, but it doesn't really cost anything. This is entirely on your home insurance company though, so check with them
@@spikesecho724 sorry I missed a comment above asking about who my insurance provide is, we got insurance with Hippo. Might be worth checking out, to see if they'll give you a rebate
Everyone complaining about $25 a month. Wth have you not seen the price of other systems? Its outrageous. Like over $1k for equipment and install and $50 or $100 per month. I have had this system for less than a year and I am generally happy with the monitoring system but strongly dislike the functionality of the cameras. The cameras almost never pick up/record motion despite being set to the highest sensitivity. If you view the motion events within about a half hour of recording, you will get an error that says "no video" and the video is deleted. The cameras CONSTANTLY disconnect from wifi especially when you are trying to view the camera which is super convenient, let me tell ya. I have a ring camera that is sooo much more reliable than any of my simplisafe cams. Never drops wifi, records any little bit of motion, saves every event and I can look at it anytime without being afraid I will lose the video forever. In a nutshell, good system, REALLY BAD CAMERAS
To add to this, my neighborhood had a string of car breakins so I set up a camera directly in front of my cars about 6 to 8 feet away so it would definitely pick up motion. Wouldn't ya know it, that same night, the perpetrator came to jiggle on my door handles. My Simplisafe cam picked up NOTHING. Meanwhile, my ring doorbell positioned about 40ft away and not even directly pointed at my cars picked up the motion and saved the event for my viewing pleasure the next morning. Even showed the guy looking directly into my Simplisafe cam before he scurried away. If Simplisafe had done its job, I could have given the cops a perfectly clear view of the guys face from about 6feet away. But no, Simplisafe cams are out here helping theifs and frustrating homeowners
GREAT VIDEO!! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful & valuable information!!! You've answered a *LOT* of my questions I've had today!!! Keep up the *GREAT* reviews of items!!
I know this video is old, but now you can control simplisafe with your app without paying a monthly subscription fee. This would be just a self monitoring system with a loud siren. You could even place the louder 105 dB siren outside. Your neighbors would just love you lol. I thought about doing all of this, but I'm returning it all because I have a Ring video doorbell. Might as well just have one system that does it all with a $100 a year price tag. I do love simplisafe and it was easy and fun to install. It truly is a great system, however just not very cost effective compared to the Ring security system in my opinion.
@@mackjsm7105 That the best you got? The typical burglar is not carrying around jamming equipment. If you have stats to challenge that then post em up.
If you lose your keys, you're pretty fucked in general. Just don't lose your keys. A thief happening to find the keychain you've lost is an extremely unlikely scenario.
Thank you so much for this, I totally assumed the app control would come with a pricey package like this (I was looking at the $250+ package). Now off to find a better deal elsewhere…
Agreed that this is a bog miss and why I won't be upgrading my legacy system. I want self-monitoring plus an app control. It's OK to have a built-in web server for monitoring (no app) but don't see that here either. Same as you... looking elsewhere.
The only gripe I have with this system is that the base station is limited in what it says, for example I would like it to tell me when my driveway camera detects motion, it texts me but an audible would be nice. (Ring does this seamlessly through an Echo device, also shows the camera view.)
Just a comment due to my OCD....you have the SimpiCam next to the Base Station box and the Base Station next to the SimpiCam Box. Again, this is just my OCD.
The motion detection doesn't work for crap. You'll get an alert every 10 seconds even if u block off every single square. Other than that it works fine as a doorbell and camera. Pisses me off that the motion detection app doesn't work.
We purchased a simplisafe video doorbell and security system. We did not realize there was a glitch in the system and we received two complete systems (and were charged for two). When we tried to set the system up we had so many issues getting the cameras (including the doorbell camera) to read the QR code we didn't even realize the second box was a duplicate until we were outside of the return window. As a result, they will not allow us to return the duplicate -- they suggested we sell it on eBay to recoup part of our investment. So disappointed in the customer service.
If it took you 60 fucking days to realize you were charged double the price and received double the product that’s not the company’s fault. They have a 60 day money back program and when I did return mine after over a month was no questions asked throw it in a box and slap a label on it.
You can have 60 days to return it or more but if you have The time to install the system and find all the cons it makes no sense because the customer service and company will make sure those 60 days will be over to ensure their sale. It's just a bunch of bull.
The Simplisafe high db alarm as a deterrant is the most important thing for me. Sure, you can call the police but how long will it take for them to get there? 20mins? 30 mins? Plenty of time for a thief to find valuables and get out without being caught. The high db alarm deterant has a good chance to send a thief running before they have a chance to find your valuables.
Great review!! I am sooooo glad I came here before pulling the trigger on my simplisafe purchase! No app interface with free self-monitoring?? That’s crazy. I had over $500 in Simplisafe components in my basket. The app should fully usable and free with the purchase of equipment. Ugh back to the drawing board. I want a self-monitoring system that I can install, with a functioning app and one that I can network to save video to my server without going with old school surveillance components. The search continues...
my parents got divorced a year ago and my mom is a narcissist and she bought a simplisafe package for the main reason of keeping an eye on me she set up 2 outdoor hunting cameras outside from scheels and a simplisafe camera in our living room with the keypad and sensors on all the doors. She always said that it was because we lived in a bad neighborhood but then i always found her watching from that camera
So you can use the app if you have the standard plan for the camera and to update account or system information pins safeword billing and exit/entry delay time (the time between a sensor being set off and the alarm sounding) the benefit of interactive plan is if you have cameras instead of paying one price for the camera plan and another for the system plan you just pay the system plan the other thing is you can get sms alerts on any activity and you can make it to where if you wanted to if a sensor is triggered it sends a secret alerts to your phone if you have the standard you can't customize that part you can still use the app just not as customizable as the interactive plan
I don’t like the idea of the service being able to access cameras inside my home..... also I cannot keep my cell at work... so I would just want the service to notify 911 if an alarm goes off for any reason. Sounds like a pretty good fit for the $15 monthly service...
There is an option to turn off the camera access with video verification. It will turn the video verification off so that you don't have to worry about Simplisafe having access to your camera. I keep it off.
Ive owned three of these systems in past three homes , glass break sensors and smoke alarms had to be replaced often because of failure, full service monitoring use to be $15 a month now it’s $25 , not worth it in my opinion and I’m switching alarms on my new home in October

Is it possible to self-monitor with the SimpliSafe system and then sign up just for 1 month professional monitoring when you go on vacation for just that period? You could then cancel it when you return from your vacation.
you could, but why? You may get charged $50 every time you do this for SimpliSafe to register and reregister with your police alarm division; however, SimpliSafe says you pay in 30 day increments, which you can spread out over time. You have to call and wait endlessly to get a representative to put your monitoring on pause. If you succeed, you will then lose app function until you call SimpliSafe back up again and wait endlessly to get a rep to resume monitoring. Understand, though that it may take anywhere from 24-72hrs where you will technically not have monitoring starting the 30 day and resuming any time within the 30 day after pausing.
I know things have changed since you uploaded, like the outdoor wireless HD camera, but let me ask you this. I purchased one indoor camera and one doorbell camera by themselves with no base station or anything else. I payed $5 per camera per month for video storage only. The indoor camera was facing down the hall next to the front door where the doorbell camera was. The issue I had was that once the doorbell camera was triggered by someone coming in, Simplisafe would only upload and store that video and not the video from the hallway camera. In other words, I couldn’t get simultaneous, multiple videos to save on their server. This would be a huge problem for anyone with a lot of cameras in their system, so I’m assuming it’s an issue that is solved by the base station?
The Glass Break has a latching feature, The battery does not transmit all of the time it transmits a signal then shuts down for two or three minutes, it is a battery saving feature. if it transmitted 24/7 the battery would not last 3 days. I would like to see a review by a Security Professional. You did not address the most important feature of the system one of which all the rest doesn't matter if this feature is not perfect. Wifi can be jammed with a $5 radio control chip used in RC cars, planes and boats. it will negate the Transmitters, the Communication signal and blank out the camera. Does the system communicate wile the entry delay is activated. if not you can just pick up the base station and stuff it in the back of a toilet. I have seen this done. in my 28 years experience in the alarm industry. If the Communication of the unit is faulty the features don''t much matter. You will have a false sense of security. Since your life may depend on this system some day You should leave this to the professionals. Or Fool yourself.
I would not trust their stick on for the sensors, screw them into the wall. On November 25th the motion detector in the front room which was the only one not screwed into the wall fell off the wall while I was at church.. That set the alarm off..
we have this system and love it. The only issue we have is the smoke detector is very sensitive. Both my wife and I Vape. She has blown her vape up in the air on several occasions and it sets off the detector. Since then we have disabled this sensor as there is no way to adjust the sensitivity of it. All in all its a great system to have and the monitoring is great.
Replace it it is easily defeated. They also do not encrypt your code so if anyone has the tech to listen and receive which is fairly cheap. They could walk in and use your code or broad cast on the frequency and interfere with the sensors.
I can't see how this system would be eligible to provide a Police response in the UK. The subscription can't be relevant as the Police will not respond to a DIY system in the UK never mind one that does not have confirmation technology.
Most home insurance companies gives a nice discount if you have an alarm system that has ability to dispatch local Law Enforcement. I understand why most people here looking for an alarm system without a monitoring service, but IMHO, its like a having a gun without any ammunition. Self monitoring relies on having the owner in or around the house or having a wifi or cell phone signal to receive the notifications when the alarm is triggered. What happens if the burglar cuts off the power or the phone line? Or the owner of the house unable to check his phone? Self monitoring system cant warn you if it cant reach you via wifi or cellular. Too many variables and too many 'what if's to trust a self monitoring security system to protect your house.
You hit the nail on the head. Other people may think differently AFTER their house has been ransacked by the incredible number of scumbags who won't work on a regular job. Talking from experience.
So the main selling point is that there is no contract, but in order for the system to alert the police you have to pay a subscription? so what problem does this solve? Not being bind by a contract? if it is for a house/store/warehouse etc then you dont care I mean you gonna need the alarm for as long as you live in the house lol not having a contract but still needing to pay doesnt make any essential difference unless you target people that are going to live/use a place for less than 6 to 12 months (which is like the average minimum of a contract) In fact in such a case not being bind by a contract is a negative rather than a positive because liability on part of the security team is not agreed on pen and paper.
Not interested in nearly anything involving security that requires $25/mo which we all know will just increase over time like all subscription models do. No thanks.
When the alarm goes off I would say within less than 30 seconds you get a call from the call center sometimes it seemed like less than 15 seconds. The time for first responders to get there if dispatched depends on where you live and your local response times.
I accidentally tripped an alarm myself and got a call from the monitoring center in less than 5 seconds. However that is not something one can expect on all alarms
@@brandonstorey5913 Ring is GARBAGE. Only takes clips. Misses so much. Goes off line for no reason then difficult to get back on line. I threw mine away
Does the special sensory works that the company claim is there? The one where you can arm it and it won't go off if you have pets because the sensors pick up animals and people and can tell a difference.
Yes it works very well! We have a medium sized American Eskimo dog and it never goes off. Just make sure you flow the instructions and place the motion detector with the button facing down toward the floor.
If you are in a metal building, and wish to deploy external cameras, SimpliSafe is not going to work without some kind of bridge to get you through the metal building wall. The truly bizarre part of it is that SimpliSafe STILL (3 years later) does NOT have a solution. You will be on your own to devise a fix.
Apparently my base station has failed. I’m away for an extended period of time, which is why I purchased the system. When I was sold the system, I was told SimpliSafe could communicate with the base station via cellular. Nope. The SimpliSafe cameras are on the same wifi and one is in the same outlet as the base station, and the cameras are working (although they won’t alarm or record an alarm). That makes me think the base station has failed. Customer service says there is nothing they can do, and that I will need to be at the property to troubleshoot. Nobody seems to grasp the irony that if I’m home, I don’t need the system on. Don’t buy this system if you need a reliable alarm for more than being out at night or while at home. You should not count on this gear to monitor your property for any extended period of time during which you would not care if the system was off.
If you don't have any of the monitoring options, and the system detects a break-in from a door / window sensor, will you receive notification on your cellphone? I’m not a big fan of the camera. WiFi set up was a hassle and tech support was poor. It turned out to be the security portion of my router, luckily I had a “demilitarized” option and got an unsecured connection on a second channel built into the router. Additionally, the shutter stuck halfway closed on the first one the shipped to me but it was quickly replaced, they sent me one out before receiving my return even so kudos on that but the second one also had a sticky shutter. For that problem, there is an option in the app to leave the shutter open all the time, I bumped it around until it was open and set it to never close. Its looking across the front yard from a second story window (indoors) so no motion triggering. Three issues on one device. I do like the system overall, just not the camera.

I think most of us on here want to monitor our own home and have pictures of the people. I would be the one calling police. With so much defunding of police departments and police leaving. Even if I wasn't home I would beat the police to my house or call a neighbor.
So the app is locked behind a paywall thanks for including that

Multiple users are allowed for the app. My wife and I each have our own apps on our phones, and control the same system.

It's says lifetime warranty on system with the top plan I've had multiple things replaced for free

That key fob seems like a security problem. If someone steals it, they can deactivate your system and then break into your home.
Cameras should now 1080p, per their website.
My simplisafe just arrived today and the camera is 1080p.
I can’t find where it says that on the site anywhere. They literally tell you everything BUT that.
Have they changed how easy it is to disable the system with a 2$ emmiter off of ebay?
Not true
Thanks, I almost bought this system. Had it in the cart ready to check out. No app control is a no go. I'll stick with Ring.
Curious if you already have ring, why are you looking to switch?
What is "ring"???
I know this video is old, but now you can control simplisafe with your app without paying a monthly subscription fee. This would be just a self monitoring system with a loud siren. You could even place the louder 105 dB siren outside. Your neighbors would just love you lol. I thought about doing all of this, but I'm returning it all because I have a Ring video doorbell. Might as well just have one system that does it all with a $100 a year price tag. I do love simplisafe and it was easy and fun to install. It truly is a great system, however just not very cost effective compared to the Ring security system in my opinion.
Great vid!! We ended up jamming NEST, Ring and this.. very easily .. these things are not good at all.. false security

Although the key fob provides convenience, there's a security risk that if you lose it, a thief could use your key fob to disarm the system.

Simplisafe does have a 60 day return window.

20mins? 30 mins? So you can use the app if you have the standard plan for the camera and to update account or system information pins safeword billing and exit/entry delay time (the time between a sensor being set off and the alarm sounding) the benefit of interactive plan is if you have cameras instead of paying one price for the camera plan and another for the system plan you just pay the system plan the other thing is you can get sms alerts on any activity and you can make it to where if you wanted to if a sensor is triggered it sends a secret alerts to your phone if you have the standard you can't customize that part you can still use the app just not as customizable as the interactive plan

Is it possible to self-monitor with the SimpliSafe system and then sign up just for 1 month professional monitoring when you go on vacation for just that period? You could then cancel it when you return from your vacation.
Yes
you could, but why?
I was ready to order SS then I saw SO many complaints about continuous false alarms. :>(
Good review. Is the professional monitoring service available in the UK?
Or Fool yourself.

we have this system and love it.
Vapes will set off most smoke detectors.

Oh I didn't realize this !????? 😯

Not being bind by a contract? if it is for a house/store/warehouse etc then you dont care I mean you gonna need the alarm for as long as you live in the house lol not having a contract but still needing to pay doesnt make any essential difference unless you target people that are going to live/use a place for less than 6 to 12 months (which is like the average minimum of a contract)
In fact in such a case not being bind by a contract is a negative rather than a positive because liability on part of the security team is not agreed on pen and paper.
Not interested in nearly anything involving security that requires $25/mo which we all know will just increase over time like all subscription models do. No thanks.
How quick is the response time for professional monitoring?
When the alarm goes off I would say within less than 30 seconds you get a call from the call center sometimes it seemed like less than 15 seconds. The time for first responders to get there if dispatched depends on where you live and your local response times.
I accidentally tripped an alarm myself and got a call from the monitoring center in less than 5 seconds. However that is not something one can expect on all alarms

Wait. So you can’t use the app to see your alerts unless you pay for it? Definitely not going with simplisafe then.
I would say, before you do that, check with your home insurance company because some of them actually give you a rebate over the monthly fee (in my case) for subscribing. So it's cost neutral or(in my case) can save you money to pay the fee.
Everything is not free in life
my question is does the camera record audio and video or just video
Hack if the sticky gets weak, you can use command strips to attach
Is there some kind of back-up if the internet is down or you shut down your wi-fi signal at night before going to bed?
