These saws work great for this...but guys, no need to make it a race against the clock....take your time and be safe about it.

Then tackled taking pallets apart by just cutting through the nails. Zip Zip, like butter, took no time at all! Absolutely love that you just push a button to change the blade, so quick and easy. I chose cordless because of all the outside projects I need to do, and most are too far to extend an extension cord to. Incredibly lightweight, and easy to handle. I will be using this all the time. There is a reason they call them Sawzalls , because they literally saw all the things you need cut. Once you buy one you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner ~ Just make sure and buy the right blades for the job you want to tackle. The blades are not expensive, and there are lots of various multi-packs available.

The Sawzall is a beautiful creation from men. This is one of the most versatile cutting tools available. As an electrician, I used many times (especially in these situations where you need to cut conduits in sh1t spots), and it never failed to empress.
Surprised with the results. I've found those blades gum up when cutting up stuff in the garden so I use a pruning blade for that. Also I recently got some prescription safety glasses! They exist!

Great video. I have a number of limbs and 4 shrubs cut down that I need to cut down further and get into bags and get to the street. I was about to hire someone as it’s a large brush pile but figured after watching the vid that I would tackle the job myself and so I picked up reciprocating saw. It should be fun. If I can complete it within an hour, I will be happy.

Recently I had to rehabilitate my hedges due to it been infested with English Ivy. The day before the project I went to Home Depot and bought one. OMG the men loved it
. They said to me you made our lives much easier. I have used it several times since.

Thanks to you I have just found my new fire wood tool for camping. It had to be silent as not to attract attention. Small for space saving and I already will be carrying the M-18 fuel chargers and drill/driver batteries. I was looking at battery powered chainsaw, but this will work much better. No chain sharpening worries, just buy a new blade which is cheaper and faster. Great video. Thanks

Good video! I've been using the Sawzall for the limbs and The Hatchet 6 inch chainsaw for the bigger branches. They both work amazing! I feel you its going to be 88 outside today!
Cool. I have tons of little limbs and branches and got tired of using a mini axe. I have an old Sawzall and wondered if it would be any good for the brush pile and wood stove

I cut down a ton of bushes with a recip saw, I bought wood cutting blades and It worked great, some of the bushes had 6 inch round base to them!

I took down a whole grove of Siberian elm with mine. The job got a lot easier once I invested in some 9" Diablo pruning blades. The job seemed hopeless when I started out using a hand saw.

I'm going more and more towards a sawzall for yard cleanup, mostly because I can run that blade into the dirt (keeps my mower happy) and not dull the chain. For your work in this video- did your battery or motor get hot? P.S. I like red tools but have more yellow ones.

I’m getting the porter cable reciprocating saw (PCC670B) with their 4amp/hr batteries for Christmas, will be doing some intensive tree pruning. I’m in the DIY category. I’ve been trying to decide if I need to be more in the “prosumer” when it comes to purchasing power tools, these things can get really expensive if you start jumping brands. Also be careful about switching out blades with that battery still attached. Good video
The more expensive tools are generally designed to be worked harder for longer periods of time. With that said, there is nothing wrong with starting with a less expensive tool and moving up over time if needed. Thank you for your concern about switching blades. This type of tool is actually pretty safe as long as you don't have your finger on the button. You will need a strong battery to be able to run a reciprocating saw for any extended period of time.

Well done buddy. It was all chopped off much before time. The machine however looked a bit heavy though you were handling it with ease. But many I'm sure are not as strong as you are. For them using this machine will perhaps be one more thing that they will miss in this life.
Or maybe just do it a bit slower, and not in 80º heat? 😆
Thanks for the vid Renos. I bought a battery BRUSHLESS DeWalt recip saw and don't regret it though it is in the higher mid-class category. I found that several companies manufacture tree pruning blades made specifically for tree work. They have much fewer teeth per inch ( 5 to 10 ) and also have more pitch angle to the teeth. They cut much faster than demolition blades for 2X4 lumber and the rake angle clears out the sawdust better. Now what about that beverage....Scotch or cold malt liquor ? J K

thought you're supposed to remove the battery before changing out the blade. Why is it a race to get done? I would rather see close up of your cutting than that.

Cutting material with a reciprocating saw should never be a speed contest. Recip saws are serious power tools that demand respect from the user.
1/ Corded recip saw will give you full power from start to finish however will usually be a bit heavier than a cordless saw and not as portable. Corded is definitely the way to go when cutting thicker limbs.
2/ Always wear full PPE when using a recip saw if you care about your health. This means full face shield to protect whole face, face mask to prevent inhalation of dust particles, ear muffs to protect hearing, gloves, and hard capped footwear.
3/ Use the correct length saw blade. Shorter blades for thinner limbs. Longer blades for thicker limbs.
4/ Always disconnect power source before cleaning saw blades.
5/ Always disconnect power source before swapping saw blades.
6/ Never use a corded saw in wet weather.
7/ Most recip saws are best used by holding them with BOTH hands during operation!
8/ Try to start the saw prior to cutting so that the blade accelerates to full speed before touching the material to be cut. This will ensure a clean cut and minimise the chance of snagging or kick-back.
9/ Never use your body to support the material you are cutting. Always support the material being cut with a saw horse, thick stump, or even on the ground if the soil is relatively soft. Holding a branch in one hand while operating the saw with the other is a surefire way to lose a hand, arm or even worse.
10/ If you are cutting a large amount of material, break the work up into smaller chunks. Take regular breaks. FATIGUE is a power tool user's worst enemy.

Did you use a pruning blade?
I used a demolition blade in this video because its what i had on hand at the time. But in the more recent video pinned above I used a pruning blade.
Great video. But why the need for speed? Just makes it so much more dangerous.
I typed a really long message and then it didn't post. So this time I will try to summarize:
I agree that increased speed has the potential to present safety issues for some. But I would also suggest that a safe working speed is relative to the individual user. I have at least 3 other videos using reciprocating saws, and I would say that this is my normal speed. I am extremely comfortable with this tool.
And though there is inherent danger in using any type of power saw, a reciprocating saw is not nearly as easy to get cut on as a saw with a spinning or turning blade, like a circular saw or chainsaw. The reciprocating saw is moving at a much slower speed, and it actually has to be pressed and held firmly against whatever you want to cut for it to work properly. A saw with a spinning blade will cut anything that it comes in contact with little to no pressure applied. These types of blades also take longer to slow down and stop spinning. For these reasons, I work much slower with those types of saws.

Hi! Without knowing your goals, it's hard to say. But generally, you can spend around $100-$120 for a good saw.
Thanks for this video; this is perfect! I need to cut some dead branches around the yard to fill a new raised bed (hugelkultur). The corded chainsaw is too inconvenient and heavy, the manual saw is too slow and exhausting, so this reciprocating saw seems about right. I just wish I could buy one made in USA (Milwaukee, maybe?). Goggles and gloves are appreciated; tired of these videos where these guys don't protect themselves, I guess because they're "macho" or "professional". Cheers

I was wondering if the pruning blades work better than the demo blade. they sell a 3-4 pack for under $20.00 The best use of the saws all is removing stumps. Your chainsaw will break and dull from dirt and rocks , ugh. $30 for a new chain , but a beat up demo blade is $2.50 and will take a beating , or a $4.00 pruning blade digg out some roots and get the blade in there to cut out those nasty roots.

This saw is volt. This brand makes two lines of battery tools 12 and 18. Well technically 3, they also have a 28 volt, but I'm not sure if they still market them.
I bought a battery powered chainsaw for the same thing, and I felt like it was overkill. I'll be returning the chainsaw, and getting a saws all instead.

Please remember that this is a professional grade saw and I have "quite a bit of experience" running reciprocating saws. There are lots of less powerful versions available. However, there is danger associated with using almost any type of power tool. But as far as power saws go, reciprocating saws are safer and easier to use than many other types of saws. if you want to see me use this tool in a more controlled manner, check out the video where I cut cast iron pipe for time. This is a demolition tool, so it does vibrate and you do have to hold on tight. Cheers!
I can't cut mine with my saw because they move too much. They are not stable.
i actually tried the reciprocating saw in the garden and it wasnt that great. i much prefer my chainsaw. way faster and powerful. the saw struggles a bit i think.
I agree that the chainsaw is faster in lots of situations, but sometimes its not as practical. This is one of the more powerful reciprocating saws available. A reciprocating saw is far less dangerous than a chainsaw, and you also dont have the noise pollution. I recently made a video doing a head-to-head competition for time between the saw in this video to an even more powerful corded version made by the same manufacturer. To my surprise, it smoked this saw.

agree. Mine is not fast in cutting plywood pallets. Once it meets nail it takes a while to cut it. So definitely need blade for steel
@@alexk6745 I think reciprocating saws have very limited applications. Way too jittery of a motion to be starting or continuing thru a cut and doesnt have the power to continue thru if it's lucky enough to get started for demolition. Big disappointment. Just hype.
