    Dude, hang tough.
    One thing that sets you apart from most other channels is that you’re real. Your feet are on the ground, and you are clearly human. I am wishing you a quick recovery. I am glad that you have discovered a new path that will lead to actual health care (proactive), and relying less on sick care (doing things only when there is an acute need).
    Your real life video still has a strong resonance with me. Be well.

    I was coming out of a round of Covid about a year ago. On day six of being wiped out I tried to stand up and immediately tipped over onto the mattress. I ended up with a bout of vertigo that all but made me crawl for around five days. It was absolutely miserable. Welcome to the dark side of aging, my friend.

    You just described the issue I have with the cycles of my chronic illness sapping all my motivation for projects, and all the starts and stops really mess with mental health as well. Your story about the rowing machine reminds me that when I had a vertigo episode years ago, biking home from work (because it was impossible to work with it) was fine, while sitting or laying still was when I felt the vertigo the worst. I have mild vertigo occasionally, but thankfully nothing like that time

    A few years ago I was diagnosed diabetic. I started exercising, made some diet changes... and it was soooooo hard.
    Some days it still sucks to keep up that motivation, but it has helped. I got more creative again, which ultimately led me to discover this channel, among many other changes.

    Another great video, bringing up topics not discussed often enough.
    I think creative approaches to preventative healthcare might help a lot of us artistic types:
    1. Maybe starting a dream journal to help cultivate lucid dreaming capabilities will help motivate us to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night.
    2. Perhaps martial arts training (shadowboxing, sparring, weapon training) will be a fun way to get some cardio in everyday.
    3. There is a possibility of using our creative impulses to fuel ideas for interesting, healthy recipes (maybe those bean, cheese, and salsa burritos can be boosted with some grilled vegetables (bell peppers, onions, mushrooms) and some lean protein sources (chicken breast, fish, or maybe even cricket protein, etc.).
    Wishing you all the best this year! Good luck with the recovery and please continue being awesome!

    Sometimes you think best when you have something going on. When I am sick I find myself thinking only because it does not make my head hurt. Otherwise I just sleep. Over 5 years ago I had a stroke. Thank my lucky stars that it was not a severe one. After a long recovery I was able to speak normally again. All of my docs told me the same thing. Take your meds eat right and exercise. I eat better now I get on my stationary bike and get in a few hours of aerobic/cardio a week. Not to mention some walking and most importantly my hobbies. It is amazing what getting into something healthier gives a guy like me in his late 50's. The creative juices flow and even if I lost some of my brain. I can still do my job and more. I would be lost if I could not do my audio work anymore.

    Get well dude. I have found that walking seems to help me get ideas for gaming projects, and it builds up my motivation. I think there are two factors at work here. The first is that it is kind of slow exercise. I am just walking, and I think it gives me time to think about what I could be painting or the games I could be playing if I weren't walking. The other factor is the stimulation from the activity of walking. My heart is pumping blood to my brain and I can sort of look at my surroundings. This is where we can find inspiration in simple things

    Appreciate this video as it hits close to home. I suffered a serious bout of Vertigo in November, first time ever in my life. I'm 57 years old. I too looked up remedies online and tried the head movement exercises thinking I had a bit of calcium in a canal. That was not the case. I believe I had an inner ear virus as well. It took about 6 weeks but mine has finally abated. I am curious; however, what where the exercises the doctor suggested you try?

    • @tabletopalchemy
      @tabletopalchemy  6 місяців тому

      Thank you, glad you enjoy the content! So yes the exercises my doc gave me are different from the Epley maneuvers (the Crystal relocation thing). They are very simple but can strengthen the symptoms momentarily but they are working really well for me so far. The first one is to put a cross mark in something like a chopstick, hold it out in front of you and turn your head from side to side while keeping eyes locked on the cross mark. Up to 1 minute at a time, 20 min per day. The goal is to increase your head swivel speed as fast as you can while maintaining eye lock on the mark. The 2nd exercise is just simply walking while looking 90 degrees one way for three steps then 90 degrees the other way for three steps, swiveling back and forth every 3 steps. So this for 2 minutes a few times per day. Then repeat but look up and down vs side to side every three steps.

And that is our age, as we get a little further from our birthday our bodies start to show a little "wear and tear". We need to compensate for that, and i think that the more important thing is the fact that you now have the chance to do it before it becomes a real chore. Age definitely plays a part in many of these things that suddenly start to show up, soon hitting 50 myself, no major illnesses or chronic stuff along the way, then suddenly my eyes stopped focusing on things held close when wearing glasses, have to put them on my head to look at things *reeeeeeally* close instead, upper arms suddenly stiff and creaking and aching in the morning, sliiiiightly worse balance than before (but still able to skateboard) - but all of that showing up within a year. Getting some more movement exercises targeting those arms going helped a bit with the aching so probably gonna have to do some more of that - never to late to improve on things :)
