    Nitrile gloves are a thing, always carry them 99% encase of chain issues - but yea also great as an emergency to keep any severe unexpected windchill. Defo alwasy have 2 rear lights as well, although my second light is the Garmin, i really like the radar coudn't ride without it now after the last few years, especially as more and more electric cars that are just so damn quiet. The situational awareness i get from it is huge and esp on country lanes its a godsend at times and how it know's the number of cars approaching never ceases to amaze me I'd say its just about the best additional thing for safety.

    Really good advice Katie as always. On longer, more remote rides, following your advice, I now take a mech hanger and replacement disc brake pads. Also, good idea to have spare storage space if needed like you suggest. I need to get better at drinking more regularly, so might consider setting a timed prompt to act as a reminder. I generally don’t like carrying too much on the bike but I think it is sensible to be totally self sufficient on longer rides like this, and that it is better to take too much stuff than find you left home without something you need. Just out of interest, roughly, how many litres of storage space did you have on this ride?

  • @kaidean
    @kaidean 2 місяці тому

    Thanks for this KK. I would love to hear about what you eat on a ride like this. I REALLY struggle to eat on a long ride. I have started using carb powder in my water bottles which gives me a decent amount but still I struggle.

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  2 місяці тому +1

      Have you got a Garmin? Getting the timer every 30 mins is SO important for me. Always need that reminder cos time goes so fast on long rides. Defo set up an eat and drink alert. And eat small bits of food regularly. Carb drinks won't be enough on loooong rides. You need to EAT!

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  2 місяці тому +1

      yes they are pricey - but as someone who used a more budget friendly light that broke as it was getting dark I won't trust cheap stuff anymore. I have had two friends have the same thing happen on rides and it just freaks me out haha. I would say that the Trace and TraceR pack I think £90 for both is incredible. They are so bright!!! And for lights I just don't trust cheap stuff now after having so many poor experiences with them.

    Nice video, Katie. Great info. Defo valuable stuff. 😊 Is there any reason why you don't use TPU inner tubes (like the relatively inexpensive RideNow brand)? They are lighter, but much more importantly fold up to about ¼ the size of butyl tubes. They are so adorable. Like "Little Sheepie Inner Tubes." 🐑❤

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  2 місяці тому

      Yeahhh they look so good but … heard people saying not to use with rim brakes as they can get hot and burst….

    • @MrLuigi-oi7gm
      @MrLuigi-oi7gm 2 місяці тому

      @@KatieKookaburra Thanks so much for relying. I ride rim brakes with DT Swiss alloy wheels. I had heard the same thing when I first started using TPU tubes 2 years ago. And then I heard the exact opposite, that they were fine for rim brakes. The conflict in opinions was turning my mind into a pretzle 🥨😱. So I just went with the manufacturer's statements and put them on my bike. BIG CAVEAT! I live in the eastern USA. We have "mountains." But NOTHING AT ALL like some of the mountains you ride on, especially on your trips to Europe. So heat buildup is not nearly as big a factor for me. 2 years into using TPU tubes and all is well, so far. 😊 Thanks again for taking the time to respond. That is a very rare thing to do for big time UA-cam celebrities. 👏👏👏
