I have to disagree with the statement that the online mp of mk8 is more competitive. One of the main complains from many casuals is that many dont really have the chance to play bevause even moderately decent players outrun them by more than 30 seconds making them being unable to finish the races. Ctr online requires you to understand the mechanics at a competent level, otherwise you arent playing.
You can still have competitive fun with a noob in ctr on split screen though. I played against my beginner cousin and denied myself drift boosting, power jumping and weapons. He won most of the time!
@@MultiplayerMedia At release, I’d say both deserve a 9! In my opinion, its Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled for the win. The driving mechanics is way more fun and comfortable for me and timing the drifts and boosts are really cool and satisfying, the visuals are very realistic too. As for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I think the part where it shines more are some unique racing styles in various tracks where there are underwater sections and anti-gravity sections. CTR:NF featured some tracks from the old Crash Nitro Kart game, which originally had anti-gravity sections, however the tracks are remade to have no anti-gravity sections in CTR:NF, probably the only downside for me. Each game shines in its own way, but for me Crash is the winner here
You should do another video on where CTR is now especially with the monthly GPs that Beenox has done and the new challenging Ring Rally mode. I prefer CTR because I grew up with Crash just a tiny bit more than Mario but I don’t hate Mario Kart at all. I also like how CTR is so rewarding especially after a tough grind to win a race and collecting wumpa coins that I need to purchase content from the pit stop.
I think with the way CTR has handled post release content (apart from micro transactions) Mario could take inspiration and learn something. I love both though really. I feel as though we'll get MK9 next year so I'll certainly be talking about a number of kart races for the foreseeable and maybe I will do a comparison again at some stage. Thanks for your comment, it was an interesting read! 🙂

Dude i'm playing for 8 mths and I still haven't grasped fully all the mechanics, there is so much and to be able to use it properly is insanely difficult and you haven't done it yet, hope you continued playing it and do another video of comparison a year after
Should be noted that you have auto steer turn on in all of your MK8 footage. This keeps the kart on the track even when you screw up making it significantly easier
Yes, this was a mistake I made at the time of making the video. I do think, even with this, the mechanics of CTR make it a more challenging experience but I do take your point that this was an important consideration that I missed.
Yeah I guess I can agree about the skill gap I prefer ctr but if one has way more experience then they are most likely to win. But that’s what I love about it cause skill more than anything will get you wins and yes items do make a difference but if you don’t feel comfortable with the mechanics you won’t be winning much
@@MultiplayerMedia I mean sure, mk is absolutely easy if you play in 100cc (I assume that because of your footage), but mk really stops being easy at 200cc dragon driftway, no rhythm mini game that is "skill" but actual driving, drifting, and breaking skills, plus it goes so damn fast that it looks much cooler.
@@chocobovonhauske8518 I've played Mario Kart on all of the CC's through my years playing it and although it is certainly harder at the higher CC's and ok different tracks, compared to CTR it's alot more straightforward. That isn't a bad thing though necessarily.
@@MultiplayerMedia Fair enough, just giving my thoughts there. However, even though I do accept that it is simpler, and because of that CTR requires more inputs, I do not necessarily think it's better or more complicated per se, hear me out, drift boosting indeed requires skill, however, you always want the most amount of boost posible, and for that you need your best timing, there is never a situation where you wouldn't want to drift boost, only situations where you don't have enough time to get as many drift boosting levels as you would want... Hmmmmm, sounds familiar to another unnecessary active improving skill that you ALWAYS want, oh yeah, L-Canceling in Melee, one of the most questionable mechanics in a video game ever. Yeah it creates a skill gap between new and old players, but even then, many of the top players ahree that it is a stupid mechanic, because if you would like to have that amount of ipm, then you would better do it not in an excecution contest, but in a decision making one, in the end it is a fighting game, you are fighting against another person, why would you implement an execution mechanic that favors people that press buttons fast for the simple perk of... Having a better character, when you could develope a mechanic that sure, needs as much excecution and rhythm/ipm, but instead of always wanting to do it, have different properties for not doing it, both good and bad, and so you create a game play loop that works in relation to the direct conflict between 2 players, instead of a conflict between you and your controller, because if you want to implement an active mechanic that needs demanding inputs, but you always want to get it, then you should simply have that mechanic as a passive and implement another more interesting mechanic (ex. Smash ultimate has reduced landing lag, which is the whole purpose of L-canceling, but it has it without a dumb mechanic, so you can focus more on the actual fight, having a good neutral, advantage and disadvantage game) So I think that drift boosting is that, having to improve your excecution to get right a mechanic that you always want anyway, so the conflict lies between you and your controller, not against the other players. In the other hand, mk8 with 200cc has the normal drift mechanic, however, although you want the boost from the drift in many occasions, there are many where there is better not having the boost, whether because you will fall in a turn where you are going 2 fast, or because you actually have a better time not using it, or just use it to adjust your position without getting the boost, heck, sometimes you don't even want to drift for similar reasons, so instead of having an artificial "skill mechanic" that needs you to memorize it, you actually have a mechanic that asks you to UNDERSTAND IT. But hey, if many people like the CTR drift boosting then it's fine, it's still an outstanding game don't get me wrong, I just feel uncomfortable when people call the skill based CTR harder or better than Mk in terms of game play (which sure, it is 150cc or less, but imo not in 200cc). I'll keep playing both.
You have raised some interesting points there and it's great to read an alternate opinion. I guess that for me, MK8 boost mechanics just come easier and are more familiar with what I expect from a racing/kart racing game. Consequently, i'm always going to find that an easier expereince and CTR's more unique mechanics more challenging :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
I agree! They both have big strengths in different areas. It all comes down to personal preference, I know some people think 1 or the other is trash but that's not true.
Personally I think both are almost equal is strength, but I Personally think team sonic racing pales in comparison to these two, but that's just my opinion.
I see CTR it seems so really fun.. but I see CTR have a problem for beat fastest player.. in Mario Kart its have a Blue Shell and Thunder Lighting for balanced experience race and enjoy to beat all players on the next track..
Now that CTR has been out a while, which game has more content as far as courses and racers? And can you still get the extra content for ctr? Or were they timed events and are now gone
CTR has a riddiculous amount of content. The last of the 8 post release Grand Prix's started today but there will still be more characters and skins after this GP. Also, it will all be available for purchase in the pit stop with wumpa coins.
In Mario kart even a new player has a good chance to win < more family In Crash Racing if you have experience you can flex on the noobs lapping them twice if you can hold Blue fire < more skill
While I *objectively* think CTR is the better game due to it's gameplay engine, I think Mario stuck to me more on a personal level and here's why... .The OST and tracks in the Mario Kart games had more variety of atmosphere like for example: The heavier sounding tracks and the fiery and deadly designs of the Bowser Castle Tracks and Airship fortress, The whacky Soundtracks and designs of courses like Moo Moo farm, Wario's gold mine and Sunset wilds and then we got the majestic or futuristic Soundtracks and designs of the iconic Rainbow Road tracks and the horrifically underrated course, Sky Garden. I'm not saying the CTR doesn't strive for different atmosphere but it's courses' designs were still mainly based around cartoony, whacky and bouncy atmosphere which I do like don't get me wrong but the variety of the Mario Kart Tracks and music sticks to me more. .I'm more nostalgic to Mario than Crash so... .I feel like Mario Kart had a charm that get's to me which Crash does not. This charm has to be from how Mario Kart gives more of it's own universe and straying away from it's original source for example: Technodrome, Sky Garden (again), Moo Moo Farm (again) and Rainbow Road (yes, again) which from what I played, none of these tracks where referenced from the original Mario platformers (if u catch my drift
I really love your comment, it's one of the best I've read. First of all, I agree that the work Beenox did made CTR objectively better and in my mind has laid down a real challenge to Mario Kart. Having recently dived in to the Crash Universe i have to say it resonates with me quite well. However, there's something magical about the Mario universe and its music and feel so I understand what you are saying. For example, I'll sit down and listen to Nintendo music but not Crash really (though I do for Spyro). I think the idea of feel and immersion in a games style and universe is underrated by many so i appreciate this post so much!
For me if you want good gameplay go with ctr, if you want something to play with friends that is easy to pick up and play without much experience go with mk8
i've picked CTR only out of nostalgia, last time i was playing it was PSX so at first i had some troubles to get use to the mechanics. But now, oh man, games is still challenging, but cutting some seconds from your lap records with perfect drift boost chained one after the other feels soooo good. I haven played MK series at all, but looking at the clips it seems to be very slow, at least comparing to CTR. The answer i was looking for whether i need MK8 now when i own CTR is "hell no!" ps, you are right about competitive racing, CTR is punishing my kids for screwing up drifts, jump etc.. well i anjoy my first place while i still can..:D
Mario kart isnt slow at all, he is just bad at the game. He is playing on smart steering and he is also not drifting at the right moments making it seem like its slow. Plus there is a 200 cc mode that is extremely fast and will test your skills.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled sucks because the game will not record your online win and loss records. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best Nintendo online go-kart racing game because it keeps track of your online records. Plus, Team Sonic Racing and Garfield Kart: Furious Racing will not record your online win and loss records.
In my PERSONAL opinion I prefer crash team racing, always have! Since the PS1, and never was able to get into Mario Kart, but I'm not gonna say it's bad just coz I'm not into it...
RIP players who want a chill in-depth single-player experience. I don't really have a lot of friends that play these kinds of games, but I also get frustrated really easily so I try to stay away from very difficult games. Might still go for CTR at some point because you can get it way cheaper than you'll ever get Mario Kart (thanks Nintendo), so I won't feel as bad if I don't end up playing it as much.
From someone who’s played both games, I can say that ctr is the much better game. I’ve had mk8dx since launch and have only clocked in 35 hours, but with ctr I’ve played 75 hours and still going strong. Ctr is just so much fun, it may not have the playerbase that mario kart does, but ctr has its support, BY THE DEVELOPERS, not just the fans. Sorry mario kart, the devs don’t care after release
I love CTR, but the items can be even worse than in Mario Kart. Getting hit by a single one can quite literally knock you out of the whole race against anyone competent cuz of the boost mechanics lol
Thanks! I recently did a little shorter version of my top 3 kart races in 2020 so maybe that will help you a little more. I enjoy both, Mario is arguably the safer option for a Nintendo fan but at this point CTR edges it for me personally.
Yeah, Mariio Kart 9 is top of my Nitnendo wishlist right now or atleast some new 8 deluxue content but that seems ambitious considering the game has been on Switch for years already.
I would say mk personally, ctr is good but the drifting is harder to do and the online mode is not that much fun to me when ctr masters can lap you giving you no chance of winning I would say mk online is more balanced and fun in my opinion. I also like that there are bikes in mk, in ctr you only have carts and hover vehicles
While i agree with you, ctr online is filled with item unbalancing Bombared with clocks for most of the race Aku aku masks in 1st place Warb orps not hitting the target Tnt for last place
Ppl say mk8 is slow..but it has 150 - 200cc Ppl say u need skills to play ctr..but u need skills to master certain short cuts in mk8..and by mastering that makes u secure your victory most times Imo mk8 is more complex than ctr because each kart, wheels, parachute and character affects handling, boost, hitbox and speed U can most definitely fall off tracks in mk8 if u turn off tilt controls Only things I can see ctr bein better than mk8 is in customization and character roster
one of the biggest reasons why people say ctr has a higher skill ceiling is because of the blue fire mechanic which rewards the player a much higher speed boost that they can keep the entire race if they can maintain constant drifts boosts without hitting any walls after hitting a boost pad, along with most of the shortcuts being able to be done with without any items
Is there any possibility that we can enjoy both? And please guys don't think that if you play ctr you're a professional and mk8 are all noobs. IT IS NOT A FIGHTING GAME so you guys are not super pro players. Fighting games are a real challenge karting games not.
I never liked mario kart because I grew up with crash team racing, started playing the original ctr when I was 3 years old lol. Mario kart is too easy to play, I love games with challenges
i don't agree much with the game being less competitive, just because people don't know how to play it don't make the game less competitive, chess is not less competitive than checkers, its just taht the person need to learn, its just not possible to casual play ctr, its not a game that anyone can pick without putting time into it, but it don't make it less competitive. i prefer mario kart to play only because i find it loadings are faster and easy to play online, but if i was going to play solo crash team racingmuch better.
When I got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe I didn’t really play it that much cuz I got bored quickly, but after literally 2 years I got back in the game and had a lot of fun, now I play it more frequently and I don’t get as bored, but CTR, I AM GONNA PLAY THIS GAME A LOT, it is very addictive and very fun. Also, it hurts me to see you not tricking off the ramps in MK8.

Smash ultimate has reduced landing lag, which is the whole purpose of L-canceling, but it has it without a dumb mechanic, so you can focus more on the actual fight, having a good neutral, advantage and disadvantage game)
So I think that drift boosting is that, having to improve your excecution to get right a mechanic that you always want anyway, so the conflict lies between you and your controller, not against the other players.
CTR is better for the offline stuff, which is A LOT. But Mario Kart 8 still wins in terms of online.
I would play ctr in mario kart track. Both games has its advantage. Loves both of them.
I agree! They both have big strengths in different areas. It all comes down to personal preference, I know some people think 1 or the other is trash but that's not true.
Personally I think both are almost equal is strength, but I Personally think team sonic racing pales in comparison to these two, but that's just my opinion.
CTR ! The King is back.
CTRNF is no longer a remake it’s a completely new game that has elements from the original. It’s amazing.
With the new tracks it became a sequel 😍
I can’t wait for the next game. I hope there’s a next game. They can’t leave it again 🤞🏼
I see CTR it seems so really fun.. but I see CTR have a problem for beat fastest player.. in Mario Kart its have a Blue Shell and Thunder Lighting for balanced experience race and enjoy to beat all players on the next track..
if only i could play mario kart 8 and sonic racing with ctr mechanics too....
Multiplayer Media cool. So past content can still be obtained. Are the wumpa coins obtainable from playing?
@@RFNY315 Yes and yes :) You get them for completing races etc.
Multiplayer Media cool. Thanks for the info. picked it up, earlier, on the sale price.
@@RFNY315 Nice I hope you enjoy
In Mario kart even a new player has a good chance to win < more family
In Crash Racing if you have experience you can flex on the noobs lapping them twice if you can hold Blue fire < more skill
Mario Kart is better and I will not listen to any Nintendo haters :)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe VS Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled! (Which is best for you and why it's Crash Team Racing)
There is a fangame called Super Nitro Racing which is a mashup of Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing.
If you want a game you can almost endlessly improve on, ctrnf is your game.
Agreed! Crazy amounts of progression possible 🙂
But lose your mind when you come up against ctr masters online at least in mk you actually have a chance of winning instead of getting lapped
CTR for adventure mode Mario Kart 8 for Online match mode because CTR Online Is like a ghost town now on switch lol
The answer i was looking for whether i need MK8 now when i own CTR is "hell no!"
ps, you are right about competitive racing, CTR is punishing my kids for screwing up drifts, jump etc.. well i anjoy my first place while i still can..:D
Mario kart isnt slow at all, he is just bad at the game. He is playing on smart steering and he is also not drifting at the right moments making it seem like its slow. Plus there is a 200 cc mode that is extremely fast and will test your skills.
How can you properly judge the driving mechanics of mario kart if you are using smart steering the whole time.
22:27 I thought you were recording CTR from a lower quality recorder. The fact that it's 30fps makes sense of that now
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled sucks because the game will not record your online win and loss records.
Yeah, sometimes people decide to hate games for no reason which gets crazy. I think overall I'd edge towards CTR right now.
I much prefer mk ctr is too challenging and to me not as fun
RIP players who want a chill in-depth single-player experience.
I don't really have a lot of friends that play these kinds of games, but I also get frustrated really easily so I try to stay away from very difficult games. Might still go for CTR at some point because you can get it way cheaper than you'll ever get Mario Kart (thanks Nintendo), so I won't feel as bad if I don't end up playing it as much.
So basically Mario kart is for "babies" and CTR is for "big boys" right?
I don't recall using that wording 🤔 CTR is the harder game but that has its pros/cons for different players.
Pretty much
Yes
@Omar the Wumpa Fruit its for noobs that don't know how to play it
From someone who’s played both games, I can say that ctr is the much better game.
CTR is very good no doubt, I've certainly put more time in to CTR since it came out.
@NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER And you realized that MK8 IS RELEASED IN 2014? IT'S OUTDATED NOW!
NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER must be a troll
Been a month and I know have 175 hours on ctr
Ctr’s items are like that because in ctr you need skill, and shouldn’t rely on the items your given
Yupp
I love CTR, but the items can be even worse than in Mario Kart. Getting hit by a single one can quite literally knock you out of the whole race against anyone competent cuz of the boost mechanics lol
it's kind of sad that Crash only has 2 good kart racer games and bunch of mediocre ones
while Mario has so many great kart racing games
I like them both equally
Great review! I just got a switch, and I'm wondering which one I should get. I'll probably get both honestly. Also, looking forward to Mario Kart 9!
CTR it my Favorite
Items are better in CTR imo! The new Mario kart have to many OP items
Interesting take on it, I like how powerful the items are in Mario Kart but I understand what you're saying! :)
While i agree with you, ctr online is filled with item unbalancing
Bombared with clocks for most of the race
Aku aku masks in 1st place
Warb orps not hitting the target
Tnt for last place
Paper Mario i agree! Not always but is whierd to get aku aku/uka uka, when 1st! I whould like IF the orb only killed this 1st player
Ppl say mk8 is slow..but it has 150 - 200cc
Ppl say u need skills to play ctr..but u need skills to master certain short cuts in mk8..and by mastering that makes u secure your victory most times
Imo mk8 is more complex than ctr because each kart, wheels, parachute and character affects handling, boost, hitbox and speed
U can most definitely fall off tracks in mk8 if u turn off tilt controls
Only things I can see ctr bein better than mk8 is in customization and character roster
one of the biggest reasons why people say ctr has a higher skill ceiling is because of the blue fire mechanic which rewards the player a much higher speed boost that they can keep the entire race if they can maintain constant drifts boosts without hitting any walls after hitting a boost pad, along with most of the shortcuts being able to be done with without any items
The original crash racing was the highest rated kart game ever
Yeah, I can't think of any harder!
3:30 It comes back because you was using assist mode you dingus
Ctr is waaaayyyy much better it actually surprised me playing it than Mario Kart 8
The drifting is messed up though it shouldn’t be so tricky just to drift one of the reasons I prefer mk
@@therunawaykid6523 Yes skill ceiling is very high in ctr and that's why i love the game, there is almost always room to improve
I prefer mk it’s more fun. But ctr is also good
Ctr defo better needs skill to play Mario is just too simple great for kids but gamers should want a challenge
I love both but CTR is far more challenging, haha.
Is there any possibility that we can enjoy both? And please guys don't think that if you play ctr you're a professional and mk8 are all noobs. IT IS NOT A FIGHTING GAME so you guys are not super pro players. Fighting games are a real challenge karting games not.
if only ctr nitro is 60 fps on switch man this would be even better.
I play it on pc with yuzu switch emulator with 60 fps mod 😋
@@davolthe1261 eww emulator player on pc lol.
@@mr.leroysmith7012 yeah pc master race 🥰😏
CTR IS BETTER SUBJECTIVELY
I dont think the game are so hard tbh , just train abit
I agree but compared to Mario Kart the learning curve is massive. That's not necessarily a bad thing though :)
i dont think you have ever tried beating the developers but its a little more than just train a bit
For some reason MK8 has a 93 score on metacritic and crash has 83 lol. I think i'll never understand that
It also has microtransctions
CTR? Yeah they added that after release sadly.
@Omar the Wumpa Fruit Agreed.
Ctr NF has more details it's really realistic and much more improved textures then mario kart 8 deluxe
I love how CTR looks!
But mk is 60 fps and ctr is only 30 you can really tell when seeing it in motion mk is so smooth, crt still looks good though
Fuck mk8 I'll NEVER play it again after playing CTR Nitro Fueled its in my blood now 🤘🏾

And comparing another game from 20 years ago
Right??
That's how far ahead of it's time CTR was. 20 years later and it's still holds as a decent kart racer.

I delete any comments I feel are unfair or abusive. I want to encourage people to look at the positives which each kart racer brings so we can look at where we want these games to go in the future. It's not BS, it's a comparison and alot of people find these types of videos interesting and fun. I understand why some may see the concept as problematic but honestly i'm not trying to create arguments here. If people behave like idiots comments get delted. Mario kart 8 deluxe is better
If you are a kid maybe
while CTR is better in PS4 and Xbox One
@NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER Mario kart is for brain dead people who can't focus on one thing for more than 5 seconds. CTR is and always have been for professional players
@NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER First off, learn to respect other peoples opinion. and second, as much as i like MK8 Deluxe, It does not have Content Updates. CTR:NF has Content Updates. Third, Beenox actually listens to fans about updates unlike Nintendo. Unless you want to piss me off any more, i suggest that you learn to respect opinions.
@NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER Also, CTR has Post-Content update unlike Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
his CTR drifts are so cringy, CTR is by far heaps better
