Inventor Leaves Dragons DUMBFOUNDED After Pitching Mini Submarines | Dragons’ Den

- Inventor of Hydrodome LTD. Andrew Sneath is asking for a massive £300,000 to build the Hydro Dome, an underwater adventure centre filled with robotic sea creatures. Hydrodome manufactures submarines for the tourist industry, builds and rents underwater camera vehicles, consults on design projects, and operates roboshark parties.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

What this guy really needed to do was partner up with a qualified seaweed hunter and use his underwater vehicles to get into the seaweed game. If only there were such a man who could be called on…
Hahaha 🤣
Ideally a humble seaweed hunter
😂😂😂😂 10/10
This comment has won the internet. I'm dying 😂😂😂😭😭😭
That could possibly be the best job in the world!
We just saw this chap's supervillain origin story. He's going to come back calling himself the Aqua Lord and hold the dragons hostage in his terrifying Hydro Dome, dangling over a tank of fearsome robot sharks.
Put lasers on the sharks lol
@@NbSkaz The sharks are still in the prototyping phase, but he's got some sea bass he hasn't fed in while.
Missed opportunity to call them Robosharks

Shark looking sharks or Mark Cuban looking sharks???

@@Dante1920 Sounds like a shitty golf shot mate🤷♂🤣
The dragons gave him really good advice about partnering with an already popular tourist attraction and using real fish instead of robotic ones. His idea still has a chance, but only if he's willing to make the adjustments necessary.
Maybe he had a chance back in 2007 when this aired.
Not sure about the robotic stuff but those mini submarines are still going strong business wise as far as I know.
I'm guessing the reason he doesn't use live fish/aquatic life is that there are probably regulations that protect the animals. For example, people swimming in an enclosed tank could potentially harm the animals and/or contaminate the water.
I personally would love to do this.. if it were me I would have invested with another dragon.. this in my opinion is brilliant. All the fun and experience without the danger of a great white shark actually hurting you as a human. I would do this 100%
He filmed sharks at the national marine aquarium. The movie was called robo sharks.
One thing we learned recently is that you don’t want to mix rich people with submarine technology
"You need someone very wealthy who likes remote controlled sharks. Do you know anyone?"
*Dr Evil enters the room*
He has such a calming voice.
He keeps stroking the submarine like the evil guy strokes his cat on Inspector Gadget
I’m from Birmingham and I would actually pay £45 to experience it in open waters not tank though
Where do you suggest? Smethwick canal?

This business sank without a trace
He was really out of his depth.
His business capsized
So much that it reached the level of water where sunlight can't reach
It was actually a very buoyant business, but then the bubble burst...
His pitch wasn't flam*buoyant* enough
I did something very similar to this years back at an adventure type park in Florida USA. We got to actually scuba dive with all the tropical fish and other amazing creatures. This guy was spot on.
I like how this guy doesn't pick up on any sarcasm thrown at him.

Oh he did, he just did really well at ignoring it.
I think he did well with his responses. He didn’t respond to it as sarcasm but i believe he knows those were sarcasm.

Agree with James. If he had come with JUST THE SUB and pushed an idea to market it to seaside resorts around the world he would be onto something. I am in the Philippines, there are over 7000 islands here many with fantastic beaches and inlets. I can see resorts with a fleet of these BOBs bumbling around close to the shoreline along with snorkeling, paragliding and surfing.
get each one to buy one? just not a winner
That zoom in on his sweat lol.
British infrastructures are designed to trap heat ,so it becomes unbearable in Summer. It's a Twatwaffle scenario.
They also have spotlights on the contestants for the specific effect. It happens much more to the contestants over the judges if you see.
Me: my submarine isn’t working
Sub Doctor: go and get it fixed then
It's clear this guy was another level to the dragons. He's evolved beyond the primates in front of him. The problem? Dude didn't cost the expense of building this resort and how the first few years may not be profitable
best not to fart while using these
Alright that's enough internet for you today
You have to, it’s the propulsion system
@@greatunwashed1856 wouldn't want to use it after you unless you change the habits of a lifetime and have a shower
wanderer299a , it’s what the swimming pools for, takes care of all my toiletry needs. Floaters can be a bit embarrassing.
Why not? You'll just go faster.
This is literally the coolest idea ever. It’s the equivalent of indoor skydiving. They should have invested.
submarining around a swimming pool?
The man has had 5 failed companies.
Too expensive
Every one of Sneath's businesses failed. They did the right thing by not investing.
So he brought Shark Tank to Dragons Den 🤔
Nice!!!!
🤣👍🏼

Show the tan on six pack guy. Honestly the best dragons den ever.
The shots of Theo 😂
I've been on one of these in Thailand. Was a really cool experience being underwater with the fish was great.
Putting a land based opportunity to experience would be great. Just need real fish in there.
I live in thailand where abouts did you go to do this?
I’d like to think at 1:37 Peter Jones just wrote down “chased by sharks?” 😅
I'd actually pay to do this. I love scuba diving and really enjoyed scuba diving in a swimming pool when we did ot for training. I agree with Debra though, location is key
I rode one of these in the Virgin Islands.....they are so much fun! I want to do it again!!
It’s a good idea but this guy is so uninspiring, they’ll probably leak and kill people
So, you'd pay £50 how many times a month to go into a water tank?
@@B_Bodziak 3 times a year
Dang, this dude could of made it really a great pitch. If it was for the robots, and not for a building that does not exist.
Pretty cool he got footage of robo-shark Vs an actual shark.
I don't think this can stand on its own. However, I do believe its a good idea, if it were marketed as a way to log hours with the equipment before taking it out in the ocean. I think a place that generally functions as a large indoor pool that occasionally offers training time with their proprietary equipment would be the way to do it.
Google only showed that he used the robo subs to film sharks in the national marine aquarium for the film robo sharks(2015). This pitch was in 2007,2008 it was reported that he's still looking for the right place to build his dome.
Why not just sell or rent the mini submarines to tour companies?
EDIT: After recent events, maybe richies shouldn’t be involved in submarine sales
I think he didn't really want the dragons, the product is good, but the idea is very bad.
Who would insure that? Something fails, someone dies, then what? Company goes bust, I bet.
@@dingdingdingdiiiiing there are safety measures bro...
He already does that, though very slowly
haha I appreciate the edit
Excited clients could prove a demand for his products all across coast lines where there is cool real stuff to see for free. It would let him validate, capitalize, refine and build out the business. Instead of making an expensive unnatural and unattractive center ...
That would be great for viewing/ swimming with extinct animals. Literally immersive.
Wonderful! Not using live animals...cruel!..but robo sharks and dinos..yes please!
If the animal is extinct how will you swim with it?
Great engineer, terrible sales man.
From what i understood he wanted to build like a aqua theme park??? Or is that what he actually SHOULD have wanted? Or is he a nerd expecting other people to come look at his tank with robots??? Probably but im confused.
In any case this has alot of potential!
But i think Debrah was right, visit places like theme parks that can help you.
He wanted to build a huge tank in which you can swim with "BOB" (the submarine) and look at his robotic sharks and so on.
Deborah suggested he should take his stuff to an aqua theme park that already exists and become 1 new attraction in that park.
@@TheNuggzt3r debbie was spot on. who tf is going to make the journey to go sit in a pool with just water
BOB is an out-and-out nerd. Definitely needs a salesman
It’s a good thing James had earlier invested heavily in the unique ‘Back Track Bike’!!! He jumped on it quick enough here. Really came in useful.
Realistically, it might take half an hour of preparation for the swim, including time for a group of people to get changed, for safety briefings, for teaching people how to use equipment, etc. Say an hour underwater - which, if the exhibit was cool enough, you could definitely spend, then another 30 minutes to shower, get changed and relax. You're looking at a two hour experience here.
It could be competitive with existing aquarium parks if it had live fish too. Alternatively it could be a good sister attraction to an existing aquarium.
I totally agree. I think all the fish should be real but all the dangerous ones should stay robots.
Do you agree?
@kauri
I dont think those subs have enough oxygen for 1 hour underwater. what if something goes wrong?
I’m writing this with only watching the first 2 minutes, but already I’m thinking his project will need WAY more than $300k. I mean $300k is the cost of a standard used house. He’s talking about an enormous building and tank. That’s millions and millions of dollars.
The tank alone would likely be the most expensive part and he just said the building is 3 million I believe. Wow.
Very cool idea if he’s able to pull it off. It’s funny he’s comparing this idea and it’s possible success with Disneyland. A place that costs millions of dollars a day just to operate with a TON of attractions.
This man is the real life Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin.
Is it me or do all the dragons look a bit "off" in this clip?
They're all androids
@@dreamybull1509 Yeah well, you're an android!

Brilliant idea...robotic sealife would be a real tourist attraction. Being underwater in Bob in a safe but exciting environment.
put them in a tank with the roboshark but within an underwater escape room
Large malls like the Mall of America have attractions like this... and seem to do well with them
They don't, otherwise you would have named at least one.
Just because these Sharks are closed minded to this chaps vision doesn't mean that other potential investors will be the same !
He could fill an entire fish tank with his sweat.
This is one of the funniest episodes I've seen. So many hilarious small moments.
The camera angles on this 😂 him sweating, awkward closeups of the dragons, etc
"Sharks that are frickin' submarines!" That's definitely the quote...
I have noticed a theme with these dragons and it looks to me that they always act funny whenever the investment is on the high side. I think his idea isn't as bad as they make it look. I think their behaviour is all a cover to hide their lack of equity.
0:04 what is an enprepreneur
I would totally go to this hydro dome place and do some scuba diving and submarining.
This is where they got the idea for Shark Tank
1st thing I would think is kids drowning in a faulty sub... Too much liability... How would you insure it?... I'm out
WOW! The Dragons all look so young!

I suppose the dragons thought his pitch was sub par.
Fun fact; This guy is actually Piers Morgan before he fell into the industrial acid vat and went insane
And ate his rescuers.
What Andrew Sneath managed to keep secret was that he didn't invent the BOB. I rode one in the mid 90's that carried the BOB name and looked far more streamlined than this. Someone, possibly him, has developed the breathing system but it's essentially the same. From experience they're not safe for anyone who doesn't have full confidence in water and the ability to swim and too boring for anyone who can SCUBA dive.
They're supposedly capable of descending to around 12 metres however without SCUBA diver training they would have the ability to kill by causing devastating lung injuries if an untrained person bailed out at this depth. Even at half of this depth, lung damage could easily occur.
They look impressive but fail at every level.
I don't understand what the dragons don't understand. It's not that whacky an idea; no more so than indoor ski slopes and indoor rock-climbing walls. The real issue is that £300,000 doesn't even touch the sides.
Dude it's robot sharks in an empty tank it's rubbish
@@tucosalamanca5194 It may be rubbish, but so is indoor skiing. Rubbish things make money all the time. Being rubbish has never been a bar to being successful.
Don't know if this would be possible, but could he come to some sort of arrangement with Birmingham Sealife Centre.
The Dragons missed the fact that the tank won't be empty, he'll fit flow signals to show the direction of the submersibles!
yes collisions could be a problem - would be for certain. safety issues
This would be perfect for Rory to gather his fresh seaweed.
😀💯😀
Just add some flow signals!
And if your mini submarine gets damaged, you can call the Submarine Docter
Yes. I just texted Rory. & he text back ‘I’ve already got one’
Yes, but any profit he made wouldn't include Brian's figures
That’s a brilliant idea. I’m from Birmingham also. If the owner of BOB is reading this. I’m interested.
I think there's definitely potential, but the "robot fish" part of it is pretty bad. Why not have an aquarium or even open sea?
So he came up with a Shark Tank on Dragon’s Den. Crossover we did not expect.
I just have a strange feeling the private submarine business is going to implode on itself someday so for that reason I'm out
the minute he said 300k i knew there wouldn't be a dragon investor, they rarely put up that kind of money
Poor 'water' punditry by Evan....is Andrew's idea 'fishy',will the project 'go under', will the dragon's 'wave' Andrew goodbye, will Andrews's bubble burst. etc, etc...

At 11:15 ... typical Peter Jones is ILLITERATE. Nothing can be very unique!!! It either is or is not!
Although I agree with what you're saying, ease off being so pedantic. People put exaggerating language in their descriptions of things sometimes in order to maximise a point about something. Peter was obviously impressed by it so called it 'very' unique as a compliment to the guys invention.
