Ducati recently announced they are getting into motocross. This single cylinder bike not only looks great but it appears to be the first in a long line of single cylinder offerings from the brand. Expect the 450 motocross bike in a year or two. Followed by some off-road versions I would guess as well.

every time a moto company releases a new motor, someone says. "ooh, let's see it on an adv bike" aprilia came out with rs660 in a 380 lbs bike and everyone said, ooh let's see that in an adv bike. we did and it weighed 450+ lbs. this ducati already weighs 333 lbs without fuel. it's already heavier than the ktm 690 enduro. people already build out ktm 690 into adv bikes. for price difference vs a 690, one could buy a new 690 and build a badass adv bike. or better yet, buy used 690. people keep dreaming of the magic unicorn adv bike. kove 450 rally is also supposed to be that bike. it's heavier and much less powerful vs ktm 690. no harm in dreaming i suppose. also, ducati may be more powerful and ktm 690 has more torque. one can probably also wring 85 hp from the ktm, if desired.

    1) Ducati 796 was a beautiful machine. Light , nimble and fun. I know that because i owned one. I used is for everyday city riding, for more or less regular travelling 500 - 1000 km. I wasn’t afraid to use it off-road. And those roads were much worse than 90% of so called “off roads” that we see on youtube. You won’t believe, but even i used it to go into the forest to gather mushrooms and berries. My only concern with 796 was small tank. It was uncomfortable to always control gasoline level while driving on highways.
I do not understand why Ducati started to transform that 796 into something more and more powerful. So, I’m glad that this little moto finally reappeared.
    2) Please make a larger tank like you did for Hyperstrada. If you do it, i promise i will buy this motorcycle.
    3) My congratulations with this new bike, Ducati! I hope it is going to be a hit in sales!

The Duc has a massive 116 bore and a short 62mm stroke, KTM is 102x84.5. Interesting that the Duc only uses a single spark plug, the 690 platform bikes use dual plug heads which help to ignite the required lean mix on such a large bore.
I wager the Duc will run better stock as the dual exhaust allow it to meet sound regs easier than KTM's single exhaust, which is a known boat anchor, but in the KTM's favor it's CAT is in the exhaust can so it goes away with the can. Not sure about how they handle the CAT on this new Duc, hopefully it's not built into the header itself.
The KTM makes considerably more power when tuned and allowed to breathe with a proper exhaust. No doubt this Duc will be much the same. Quickshifter is "available" so that sounds like an extra, it is standard on the KTM. Good running big singles are a gas. I am most interested in the Duc's wheelie assist feature of course, I have do that old school using the rear brake pedal on my 701 🤣

Be interesting to see a similar engine plunked into a retro “Mach 1” model; dripping in red, leather panniers, comfy ergos and priced within reach of the BSA single.

Very interesting new platform engine for Ducati. With ducati's reputation for new development bikes, people may avoid 1st gens for that reason. For sure there will be bugs and problems arising from this new motor, hopefully next gens will be sorted like most of their other models. However, some people will still buy it for the "Ducati Value"
It also is a good move to push the husky and ktms to improve their stagnant sumo models. Maybe even get the BMW to join the ride and bring back their Xmoto model.
A good bump for supermoto lovers indeed!
Now is the best time to save up just in time for next gens to arrive. 😅

This model canibalize her sister hyper 900cc and the x desert... ducati annunce a intro to Motocroos and all of us wait for a low price model on 3 or 400cc with that excellent quadro mono, but the high price makes the market go to KTM or other brands 🤷‍♂ (sorry for my english, my native lenguage is Spanish)

At last! Ducati have woken up and produced a modern Supermono engine, will be great to see this engine in a lightweight road/adventure bike rather than a supermoto which is a marmite sector of the market.
Ducati have made themselves a problem though, any other mono engined bike they make would compete with their own L Twin bikes, eg, why would you buy an L Twin Scrambler if you could have a lighter, faster bike as a Mono, this engine could be the midrange future for Ducati

Smart text cut me off but I said it looks like a flat track bike it doesn't look like it's going to be too capable on an off-road track the bike sits really low and the motor is unusually large on the bottom end it's going to need a really good skid plate I might see the bike being competitive in the hooligan class but not on a supermoto track
